Guys, the Euro exchange rate is really no joke now. 💸 As a Penangite who loves history and old buildings, France has been on my bucket list forever. Finally made it, but I had to do it the smart way so my wallet wouldn't bleed too much! 🥲 Here’s how I enjoyed Paris and Nice without going broke: 🗼 Paris Vibe Check: 1. Montmartre & Sacré-Cœur: A must-go for history lovers! Go during sunset. The street musicians outside the church create the best vibe. My 37-year-old knees complained a bit climbing the steps, but the view of Paris is absolutely free and priceless! 🌇 2. Louvre Museum: Don't pay for those super expensive VIP tours. Just book the normal slots early on their official website. 3. Eiffel Tower: Skip the pricey 200€ dinners. I just went to the Place du Trocadéro steps for that perfect shot. Zero cost, maximum aesthetics! 📸 🌊 Nice (South of France): 1. Nice Old Town (Vieux Nice): Honestly, wandering around the colorful, historic alleys gave me slight George Town vibes, but European style! 🏰 Perfect for architecture walks. 2. Save on TGV: Book your train from Paris to Nice 3 months early! If you buy last minute, the price will give you a heart attack, trust me. Also, pack your own snacks for the train ride, food onboard is super pricey. 💡 Quick survival tips for Malaysians: · Keep your backpack in front! Pickpockets there are fast like lightning. ⚡️ · Sunday most shops are closed, so buy your snacks and water early. · Opt for the 'Formule' (set menu) at local bistros—much cheaper than ala carte! You don't need to be a millionaire to enjoy the historic side of France. Just plan smart, walk a lot, and enjoy the views! Safe travels, guys! ✈️🌍

Lyon doesn’t have the instant postcard fame of Paris or the Mediterranean glamour of Nice, and that may be exactly why it is so enjoyable. This is a city to explore slowly: Renaissance streets in Vieux Lyon, hidden passageways called traboules, views from Fourvière Hill, cafés beside the Rhône and Saône, and some of the strongest food traditions in France. Lyon is historically associated with Roman heritage, silk production and gastronomy, while its historic centre is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. My biggest recommendation? Don’t visit Lyon on a diet. Food is part of the sightseeing here. ℹ️ Practical Visit Information 📍 Location: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, southeastern France ✈️ Airport: Lyon–Saint Exupéry (LYS) 🚆 Main stations: Lyon Part-Dieu and Lyon Perrache 🗓️ Recommended stay: 2–3 full days 🏛️ Don’t miss: Vieux Lyon, Fourvière, traboules, Presqu’île and Croix-Rousse 🍽️ Food experience: Eat at a traditional bouchon lyonnais 🚇 Getting around: Metro, tram, bus, funicular and walking 🌅 Best views: Fourvière Hill and the Saône riverbanks 📸 Best photography: Early morning in Vieux Lyon and sunset from Fourvière 👟 Bring: Comfortable shoes — some areas are steep 💡 Best tip: Explore both riverbanks rather than staying only in the Old Town ⚠️ Important: Some traboules pass through residential buildings. Keep quiet and respect residents. ✈️ Getting from Lyon Airport to the Centre The easiest public transport option from Lyon–Saint Exupéry Airport is generally the Rhônexpress, which connects the airport with Lyon Part-Dieu. It’s convenient, but not necessarily the cheapest option, so compare current transport choices if you’re travelling on a budget. From Part-Dieu, Lyon’s metro and tram network makes reaching most central neighbourhoods straightforward. If arriving by high-speed train from Paris, the journey can take around two hours, making Lyon surprisingly accessible for a longer French itinerary. 🏘️ Start in Vieux Lyon Vieux Lyon is the part of the city most first-time visitors imagine when they think of historic Lyon. Expect narrow cobbled streets, Renaissance façades, courtyards, cafés and passageways beneath colourful buildings. Explore around Saint-Jean, Saint-Paul and Saint-Georges rather than remaining on one main street. Go early in the morning if you want to appreciate the architecture without large groups. Then return in the evening for dinner. 🚪 Find the Secret Traboules This is one of Lyon’s most distinctive features. Traboules are passageways running through buildings and courtyards, historically allowing people to move between streets more directly. They’re particularly associated with Vieux Lyon and Croix-Rousse. Some are open to visitors, while others belong to private residential buildings. If a passage is accessible, enter quietly. Don’t shout inside courtyards, block doors or treat someone’s home like a theme park. Finding them feels like discovering a hidden version of Lyon. ⛪ Take the Funicular to Fourvière You can walk uphill. But unless you’re specifically looking for exercise, take the funicular from Vieux Lyon. At the top you’ll find the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, one of Lyon’s most recognizable landmarks. The interior is much more elaborate than you might expect, with mosaics, decorative surfaces and richly ornamented spaces. Then go outside for the view. On a clear day, the panorama stretches far beyond central Lyon. 📸 Fourvière Is the Classic Photo Spot For panoramic photographs, this is the place. You can clearly see the dense city spreading between and beyond the Rhône and Saône. Late afternoon is particularly beautiful. Instead of immediately taking the funicular back down, consider walking downhill through the gardens towards Vieux Lyon. The descent is much easier than the climb and gives you several different perspectives. 🏛️ Discover Roman Lyon Fourvière has another surprise. Just a short distance from the basilica are the remains of Roman Lugdunum, including ancient theatres. Lyon was an important city in Roman Gaul, and the archaeological remains provide a completely different historical layer from Renaissance Vieux Lyon. Visit the nearby museum if you’re interested in Roman history. The combination of Roman ruins, Christian monuments and modern city views makes Fourvière worth several hours rather than a quick viewpoint stop. 🧵 Explore Croix-Rousse Croix-Rousse feels noticeably different from central Lyon. The district became closely associated with the city’s historic silk-weaving industry and the canuts, Lyon’s silk workers. Explore its slopes, staircases and traboules. You’ll find street art, independent businesses, cafés and excellent views appearing unexpectedly between buildings. Wear comfortable shoes. There are a lot of hills and stairs. 🌊 Walk Along Both Rivers Lyon is shaped by two rivers: the Rhône and Saône. Don’t explore the city entirely underground by metro. Walk beside the Saône around Vieux Lyon and cross its bridges for beautiful views back towards Fourvière. The Rhône riverbanks offer a different, more contemporary atmosphere, with paths and places to relax. Around sunset, buy something to drink or eat and simply sit beside the river. 🏙️ Explore Presqu’île Between the two rivers lies Presqu’île, Lyon’s central peninsula. This is where you’ll find major squares, shopping streets, restaurants and impressive architecture. Walk through Place Bellecour, continue towards Place des Jacobins and eventually reach the area around Hôtel de Ville and Place des Terreaux. It’s an easy area to explore on foot and provides a good contrast with medieval and Renaissance Vieux Lyon. 🍽️ Eat at a Real Bouchon Lyonnais This is essential. A bouchon is a traditional Lyon restaurant serving hearty local cuisine in an informal setting. Menus can include dishes that may seem unusual to international visitors, so don’t expect generic French bistro food. Try: · Quenelles · Saucisson brioché · Salade lyonnaise · Cervelle de canut · Andouillette · Tablier de sapeur · Local charcuterie · Praline tart If offal isn’t your thing, check the menu beforehand. Traditional Lyonnaise cooking makes enthusiastic use of it. 🧀 Try Cervelle de Canut Despite the slightly alarming name — literally «silk worker’s brain» — cervelle de canut contains no brain. It’s a fresh cheese preparation mixed with herbs and other seasonings. It’s refreshing, inexpensive and strongly associated with Lyon. This is exactly the kind of local dish worth ordering instead of something you could eat anywhere else in France. 🍬 Discover Lyon’s Pink Pralines You’ll notice extremely bright pink sweets in bakery windows. They’re pralines roses, almonds coated in coloured caramelized sugar. They’re used in several desserts, particularly the famous tarte aux pralines. It’s very sweet. Share one if you’re not a serious sugar enthusiast. You’ll also find praline-filled brioche and other variations in bakeries around the city. 🛒 Visit Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse Food lovers should visit Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse. This indoor market brings together cheesemongers, charcuterie, seafood, pastries, wines and other high-quality products. You don’t need to buy an expensive meal. Walk around, look at the displays and choose several smaller things to taste. Go hungry. Visiting immediately after lunch is poor planning. 🥖 Create Your Own French Picnic For a cheaper meal, buy: Good bread + cheese + charcuterie + fruit + something sweet. Then find a place beside one of the rivers or in a park. France is one of the easiest countries for creating an excellent meal without entering a restaurant. Ask a cheesemonger for something regional rather than automatically buying a familiar cheese. 📸 Best Photography Spots For classic panoramas, go to Fourvière. For Renaissance architecture, photograph Vieux Lyon early in the morning. Use traboule courtyards for architectural details, but respect residents. Photograph Fourvière from bridges crossing the Saône. Explore Croix-Rousse for street scenes and unexpected viewpoints. At night, walk beside the rivers and photograph illuminated façades reflected in the water. 💡 Tips That Will Make Your Trip Better Use the funicular to climb Fourvière and walk back down. Explore the traboules quietly. Book a good bouchon for dinner rather than choosing randomly. Go to Les Halles hungry. Spend time in Croix-Rousse. Walk beside both rivers. Try dishes you’ve never heard of. Use public transport for longer distances but explore individual neighbourhoods on foot. And give Lyon at least two nights. ⚠️ Things to Avoid Don’t visit only Vieux Lyon. Don’t enter traboules marked as private. Don’t make noise inside residential courtyards. Don’t expect every traditional Lyonnaise dish to be light. Don’t automatically choose restaurants with aggressively tourist-oriented menus. Don’t wear uncomfortable shoes in Croix-Rousse or Fourvière. Don’t spend the entire trip underground on the metro. And don’t treat Lyon simply as a stop between Paris and Provence. 🌤️ Best Time to Visit Spring and early autumn are excellent for walking and outdoor dining. Summer brings longer days but can become hot. December is particularly famous because of the Fête des Lumières, when light installations transform buildings and public spaces across the city. It is spectacular, but accommodation demand and crowds increase dramatically. For a quieter first visit, May, June, September and October are excellent choices. ❤️ Final Thoughts Lyon doesn’t need an Eiffel Tower or Mediterranean beach to compete with France’s most interesting destinations. Its appeal is more subtle. You discover it while walking through a hidden traboule, looking across the city from Fourvière, eating something unfamiliar inside a bouchon or sitting beside the Saône with bread and cheese. Come hungry, walk everywhere and don’t rush. Paris may be France’s most famous city, but Lyon might be the one that food lovers secretly wish they had discovered sooner. 🇫🇷🍷🥖 #travel2026 #travel #lyon #France

Calling all light show enthusiasts. ✨ I’m obsessed with light shows. I’ve seen them all over the world—Barcelona, Tokyo, Istanbul, Brisbane, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, and of course, St. Petersburg. Light has a way of redesigning a city faster than any architect; I absolutely love these "light exercises." Sometimes they are accidental and free, yet completely brilliant. Today isn't about looking back. I’ve put together a list of places you can still make it to in 2026. Here are my top 8. 1. PROSVET, Perm August 28 to 30. FREE: All main installations and mapping. PAID: Only the multimedia party on August 29. PRO TIP: If you’re just there for the light, you don’t need a ticket at all. Start at the Shpagin Factory at 7:00 PM and finish at the Opera and Ballet Theater after 8:30 PM. 2. Festival of Lights, Berlin October 9 to 18. FREE: The entire main program. PRO TIP: Skip the €23 boat tour. The organizers honestly warn that the illuminated buildings aren't visible from the water. You're better off walking from the TV Tower to the Brandenburg Gate. 3. GLOW, Eindhoven November 7 to 14. FREE: The festival and digital map. PAID: The paper map costs €2. PRO TIP: Arrive via Eindhoven Centraal. The city center is closed to traffic in the evening, so bringing a car will only lead to the wrong kind of "adventure." 4. Amsterdam Light Festival November 26, 2026, to January 17, 2027. FREE: Viewing the works on foot. PAID: Cruises and guided tours. PRO TIP: Don’t buy anything in advance. Sales open on October 1, and the exact route hasn’t been released yet. 5. Fête des Lumières, Lyon December 5 to 8. FREE: All main shows. No registration required. Saturday and December 8 are traditionally the busiest days. For a more manageable crowd, choose December 6 or 7. 6. Field of Light, Uluru PAID: 50 AUD. The base ticket already includes the transfer and the entire installation. PRO TIP: The $137 Star Pass is only worth it if you want drinks and a separate viewing area. It doesn't add any new light installations. 7. teamLab Borderless, Tokyo PAID: 3,600 to 5,600 yen. The Flexible Pass costs 12,000 yen. PRO TIP: Opt for a regular ticket for a specific time slot and buy it online. Flexibility is nice, but it’s not always worth an extra 8,400 yen. 8. Sensorio, Paso Robles PAID: Regular tickets from $65. VIP from $110. PRO TIP: All seven installations are included in the regular ticket. VIP just adds a terrace, a seat, and a drink. The lights don't get any brighter because of it. Which would you choose: a free city of lights or a paid field of fire in the middle of the desert? More travel notes on Telegram: NASAVI | TRAVEL

🇫🇷 LANDING AT CDG PARIS SOON? Avoid these rookie mistakes before leaving the terminal! ✈️ So you’ve touched down at Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and you’re ready to crush your Paris adventure. 🚀 Before you get lost in that Parisian magic (and maybe a few croissants 🥐), here’s your ultra-handy guide to getting from CDG to central Paris—without the tourist fails. 🚆 1. RER B — BEST BUDGET OPTION Route: CDG → Gare du Nord → Châtelet–Les Halles → Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame ⏱️ Time: About 25–40 min (depends on type of train) 💶 Price: Around €13 ⭐ Why you’ll love it: Super fast, frequent, and super easy for getting right into Paris city center. ⚡ Hack! Check the train screens—Not all RER B trains stop at the same stations! Look for direct services into the city. Choosing the right train can save you 10–15 minutes versus the ones that stop more often in the suburbs. 👀 Pro Tip: Watch your bags—keep them in front of you, especially during busy hours or when the train gets packed at stations like Gare du Nord. Don’t flash your phone or valuables near the doors—Paris has vibes, but it also has pickpockets! 📱 Beat the Queues: Buy your ticket with the Île-de-France Mobilités app or Bonjour RATP app. Get your RER ticket right on your phone/wallet (yep, it works with most devices), and breeze past those mega-long lines at the airport machines. 🚌 2. ROISSYBUS Route: CDG → Opéra (central Paris) ⏱️ Time: ~45–75 min (depends on traffic!) 💶 Cost: About €13–16 👍 When to use it: Perfect if your hotel’s near Opéra—just hop off and you’re there. 🚌 3. REGULAR PUBLIC BUS If you’re staying in certain Paris suburbs or local ‘hoods, a regular city bus can get you closer. 💶 Even cheaper than RER B or RoissyBus! ⏱️ Usually slower, but it could be handy for outer neighborhoods. 🚆 4. CDGVAL — AIRPORT SHUTTLE (Totally FREE!) Use CDGVAL to move between different CDG terminals and to reach the airport’s main transport hubs. ⚠️ Does NOT go into central Paris—it’s for getting around the airport only! 🚄 5. TGV — LEAVE CDG FOR ANOTHER CITY Trains depart from “Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV” station (Level 2, Terminal 2). Hit up cities like Lyon, Lille, Strasbourg, Marseille, or Bordeaux straight from the airport—no trip into Paris required! 🚕 TRAVELING WITH FAMILY OR LOTS OF LUGGAGE? Go official or go home! Take an official Paris airport taxi: ➡️ To the Right Bank: About €56 (flat rate) ➡️ To the Left Bank: About €65 (flat rate) Where? Head outside for the official taxi rank. Ignore any random offers in the terminal—they’re not worth the risk. 🏆 TL;DR: Quick Choices 💰 Cheapest & fast: RER B ⚡ Fast (to city center): RER B 🚌 Hotel/Opéra zone: RoissyBus 👨👩👧👦 Family & baggage mountain: Official Taxi 🚄 Leaving Paris for another French city: TGV 📝 Save this cheat sheet before your Paris touchdown! Planning more Paris moves? Check trip.com for deals on hotels, attractions, and the smoothest trip ever. Lyon, the city that immediately comes to mind at the mention of the "Capital of Gastronomy." From savoring local cuisine at a traditional bouchon to strolling through the markets and fulfilling a dream visit to Paul Bocuse... Here are five places I actually visited and would love to return to. 🍷 ⸻ 🥇 Paul Bocuse "To Lyon, for this place." This restaurant was the very first thing I booked when I decided to visit Lyon. Not the train, not the hotel—Paul Bocuse came first. The special moment begins the second the illuminated building appears in the night. The cuisine, which continues to uphold classic French traditions, has an overwhelming presence in every dish. The signature Quenelle Nantua—a light, fluffy white fish quenelle layered with a rich sauce—is a dish you must experience as a true representation of Lyon. Every course was surprisingly voluminous; I found myself laughing at just how full I was. Yet, everything remained delicious right down to the final Bernachon chocolate. The service and wine selection were, of course, world-class. Recommended for: ✨ Those seeking a meal in Lyon they'll never forget ✨ Anniversaries or the main event of a trip 💶 Budget: €€€€ 🍷 Wine: Excellent selection of both glasses and bottles 📅 Reservation: Mandatory ⸻ 🥈 LE LAURENCIN "The quintessential bouchon for your first stop in Lyon." The first thing I did after arriving in Lyon and dropping my bags at the hotel was head to a bouchon. Tasting local cuisine at the start of a journey instantly closes the distance between you and the city. You can experience true bouchon culture here, starting with the pork rind snacks served the moment you sit down. The hearty presentation is delightful, and the quenelles were particularly memorable. Tucked into the streets of the Old Town, the atmosphere—bustling with both tourists and locals—is part of the charm. If I visit Lyon again, I’ll surely have my first lunch here. Recommended for: ✨ First-time visitors to Lyon ✨ Those who want to enjoy local cuisine casually 💶 Budget: €€ 🍷 Wine: Glass of wine recommended 📅 Reservation: Relatively easy to get in without a reservation at opening time ⸻ 🥉 Les Halles Paul Bocuse "A gourmet market that transforms from morning to afternoon." I spent a slow morning here with a pain au chocolat and a café au lait, watching the market crowds go by. By noon, the atmosphere completely shifts. The entire market is filled with energy. This time, I enjoyed a hearty meat dish at Les Garçons Bouchers; thanks to the variety of sauces, I enjoyed every bite of the large cut of meat. With famous shops like Paul Bocuse’s deli, it’s the perfect place to find souvenirs worthy of the gastronomic capital. Since it shows a different face in the morning versus the afternoon, I recommend visiting at different times. Recommended for: ✨ Those who want to feel the daily life of Lyon ✨ Those who want to enjoy both gourmet food and shopping 💶 Budget: €–€€ 🍷 Wine: Lunch wine recommended 📅 Reservation: Generally not required (popular spots can be crowded) ⸻ ④ Bistrot Bondy "A place to reset your travel appetite." While the food at bouchons and Paul Bocuse is wonderful, it is also very heavy. There are some nights when you just want something a little lighter. That’s when I stopped by this bistro. With a casual, cafe-like atmosphere, spending time slowly with a salad and a glass of wine was a comforting moment that helped balance the pace of the trip. After a string of heavy meals, I truly appreciated this spot. Recommended for: ✨ Those looking for a lighter dinner ✨ Those who want to enjoy wine casually in the Old Town 💶 Budget: €€ 🍷 Wine: Glass of wine recommended 📅 Reservation: Easy for walk-ins ⸻ ⑤ Restaurant Marguerite "A place to wrap up the trip with the lingering essence of Bocuse." I chose this spot because I wanted to immerse myself in the world of Bocuse just a little longer before the trip ended. It’s not as formal as the main restaurant, yet the food and service provide immense satisfaction. "I want to treat myself just a little today." This restaurant perfectly matched that final-day mood. While sipping my last glass of wine, I found myself naturally thinking, "I want to come back to Lyon again." It was the perfect finale. Recommended for: ✨ Those who want a little luxury on their final day ✨ Those who want to enjoy the world of Bocuse casually 💶 Budget: €€€ 🍷 Wine: Glass of wine recommended 📅 Reservation: Recommended ⸻ 🍷 Final Thoughts In Lyon, I think I spent more time thinking about "what to eat today" than "where to sightsee next." From discovering regional dishes at a bouchon to observing city life at the market and spending a special night at Paul Bocuse... Every single restaurant enriched the journey itself. I visited because I heard it was the "Capital of Gastronomy," but by the time I left, it had become "the city where I want to experience those moments again." If you visit Lyon, I hope you find your own "Best Eats." 🇫🇷🍷

Known as the "Pearl of the Alps," Annecy is nestled against snowy mountains with crystal-clear lake water. The old town is filled with colorful houses and flower-lined alleys. The winding canals create a leisurely and romantic atmosphere, perfect for a slow stroll and relaxation. 🗓 Itinerary Stroll through Annecy’s old town in the morning, wander the flower-filled alleys, and visit the Palais de l’Isle. The French historic buildings make for great photos. Have a casual French lunch at a street-side restaurant in the old town. For travelers who decide on the spot, start your drive from Lyon. The whole trip takes about 2 hours 🚗, with incredibly soothing scenery along the way! The route is filled with lush French pastures and forests 🌿. Far from the city’s skyscrapers, you’ll see nothing but fresh mountain and countryside views, making the drive especially relaxing. Arrive at the fairy-tale town of Annecy 🏘️! Clear rivers flow through the town, colorful European-style houses bloom with flowers 🌸, and the small bridges and flowing water create a perfect atmosphere. The island palace, a landmark of the town, is hidden in the middle of the river. Surrounding the town, Lake Annecy’s water is clean and crystal clear, gently blue 💙, with the snowy Alps visible in the distance. Sunshine, lake, closeness to nature… next time, plan to stay here for a few days!

For the first time, I truly felt the limitations of language! Just as the literary giant Victor Hugo said after visiting: “No matter how I write, my words cannot capture the beauty of Annecy.” The Enlightenment thinker Rousseau also spent the best 12 years of his life here. The town of Annecy is located in the Haute-Savoie department in southeastern France, nestled against the Alps and formed around Lake Annecy, created by glaciers melting 18,000 years ago. It has long been an important commercial and religious center on the French-Swiss border. In the 10th century, it belonged to the Count of Geneva. In the 16th century, it became a core area of the Counter-Reformation and was nicknamed “Savoy Rome.” It officially became part of France in 1860. The Thiou River cuts the medieval old town into lively waterways. Candy-colored half-timbered houses line the water, with flowers climbing the windowsills, earning it nicknames like “Venice of the Alps” and “Balcony of the Alps.” Lake Annecy, crystal clear to the extreme, ranks as Europe’s purest lake. Snow-capped mountains, turquoise water, ancient alleys, and stone bridges blend perfectly here. Without the noise of commercialization, it offers a slow-paced French romance, making it the ultimate hidden gem for European small-town travel🌿 ✅Must-see spots (core attractions) 1️⃣. Palais de l'Île The city logo of Annecy, built in 1132 on a small island in the canal. Its overall shape resembles a stone ship moored on the water. Eight hundred years ago, it was a fortress of the Count of Geneva and later served as a mint, courthouse, and prison. The damp stone walls hold the millennia of change in the Savoy region. It is now a city history museum. No mandatory ticket is required to enter. The stone bridges and walkways on both sides of the canal are free photo spots. Early mornings have no tourists blocking the view, and the water reflections create a perfect atmosphere🏯 2️⃣. Annecy old town The medieval street layout is fully preserved, with winding cobblestone paths, colorful Savoy half-timbered houses, and carved stone bridges. The streets are filled with creative shops, outdoor cafes, and flower shops. Saint François Square and the Cathedral of Our Lady are tucked inside the alleys. Strolling here immerses you in the lively atmosphere of a thousand-year-old town. 3️⃣. Lake Annecy Formed by Alpine glacier meltwater, the lake shows distinct layers of Tiffany blue with exceptional visibility. You can cycle around the lake, rent pedal boats to float on the water, sit on the lakeside lawn to gaze at the snow-capped mountains, and feed the swans leisurely swimming by🦢 4️⃣. Love Bridge The meeting place of Rousseau and Madame de Warens, facing the entire lake view and the Alpine mountain outline. At sunset, the sun spreads across the lake, making it an excellent spot for portraits and panoramic shots. Couples visit here to symbolize locking in their romance💕 5️⃣. Annecy castle Located on the old town’s high ground, the rooftop terrace offers a panoramic view of the red-tiled old town, canals, Lake Annecy, and distant snow mountains. The museum inside displays millennia of artifacts from the Savoy region. ✅Transportation 1. Intercity arrival 🛬Plane: The nearest hub is Geneva International Airport in Switzerland. Airport shuttles go directly to Annecy, about a 1-hour drive; 🚄High-speed train: Take the TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon, 3.5–4 hours direct to Annecy train station; 🚚Self-drive: You can drive from Geneva or Lyon, ideal for a French-Swiss loop trip. 2. Getting around town Motor vehicles are banned throughout the old town. Walking is the best way to explore. Bikes and electric scooters can be rented to tour around the lake. 🅿️Parking info: Public parking is available outside the old town at Paquier and near the train station. Self-drive vehicles must park outside the old town walls, with a 5–10 minute walk to the core area. No parking is available inside the old town. ✅Practical tips 1. Best time to visit: June–September, when the lake is clearest and temperatures are comfortable for water activities; September–November, when the surrounding forests turn red with autumn leaves, creating a strong fall atmosphere. 2. Closed days: Palais de l'Île and Annecy castle museum are closed every Tuesday. Plan your itinerary to avoid these days to prevent missing out. 3. What to wear: The Alpine region has large temperature differences between day and night. Even in summer, bring a light windbreaker. The old town has many cobblestone streets, so wear comfortable flat shoes. 4. Local food: Recommended dishes include Savoy cheese fondue, blueberry tart, and onion tart. Dining at canal-side restaurants offers both great food and views. 5. Annual highlight: The international animation festival is held every June, attracting animation fans worldwide and creating a unique atmosphere in the town.

Honestly, I’ve traveled to more than 20 countries in Europe, and Lyon is the first city that made me think, "I want to live here." July is just perfect; the whole city feels like it’s in slow motion🌿 🚄【Transportation guide】 Take the TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon to Lyon Part-Dieu, a 2-hour direct ride. Starting in 2026, OUIGO’s low-cost high-speed trains will increase to over 20 daily summer departures, with tickets starting at €16. I booked mine 10 days in advance for €19. For city transport, buy a TCL day pass for €6.9, which covers metro, bus, tram, and funicular. If you’re staying 3 days or more, the weekly pass for €23.9 is more cost-effective. The metro has 4 lines covering all major attractions. 🏠【Where to stay】 ⛰️ The rental is on the right bank of the Saône River, on the edge of the old town. It’s a 7–8 minute walk from Saint-Paul train station and just around the corner from the riverbank promenade, yet far enough from the noisy bar street. ⛰️ The top floor has a slanted roof skylight bedroom🛏️. Lying in bed, you can see a sky full of stars. The air in Lyon in July is so clear that you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye—an unforgettable experience. ⛰️ The first floor has a private courtyard with a stone floor, cast iron table and chairs, and an old olive tree🫒. Enjoy an espresso and croissant here in the morning while listening to the distant church bells—this is the true way to experience southern France. 🗺️【Three-day deep itinerary】 ▶ Day 1 — Leisurely stroll along both banks of the Saône Start from Saint-Paul bridge and walk south along the river. On your right is Vieux Lyon’s most beautiful facade—a row of colorful 15th and 16th-century townhouses, fading from pale yellow to ochre red. Every photo is a masterpiece📸 Visit Cathédrale Saint-Jean to see its astronomical clock. At 12:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 PM, there’s a two-minute mechanical puppet show—don’t miss it. Cross the river to the Presqu'île peninsula and stroll along rue de la République to Place Bellecour, one of Europe’s largest squares. The central equestrian statue of Louis XIV is truly imposing. ▶ Day 2 — Hidden gems revealed In the morning, visit Hôtel de Ville square. Next to it is the Lyon opera house, a perfect blend of old and new—the 17th-century facade plus the 1993 glass dome designed by Jean Nouvel. The café terrace inside offers unbeatable views☕ Then walk uphill to the Croix-Rousse district. On Wednesday and Saturday mornings, the Marché de la Croix-Rousse open-air market is held here🧀. Cheese, ham, flowers, handmade soap... July peaches, apricots, and lavender honey are irresistibly sweet. In the afternoon, explore the Traboules! Highly recommend the entrance at 6 rue des Capucins. After passing through three arches, you suddenly emerge by the river—this kind of "hidden gem" experience is unique in Europe. ▶ Day 3 — The perfect mix of nature and culture Spend the morning at Parc de la Tête d'Or, Lyon’s 117-hectare urban lung🌳. Rent a pedal boat and float on the lake for an hour, €6 per half hour, perfect for two. The botanical garden’s greenhouse is free and the tropical orchids are in full bloom in July. In the afternoon, visit Musée des Beaux-Arts (admission €8), the second largest collection in France after the Louvre. It houses paintings, sculptures, and Asian art from the Middle Ages to contemporary times, including originals by Monet, Renoir, and Picasso. End the day at the Confluence peninsula for sunset🌅. Here, two rivers meet. Standing at the tip, the Rhône on the left is a deep blue-green, and the Saône on the right is a gentle gold. The visual impact is beyond what photos can capture. 🌡️【July weather in Lyon】 Daytime temperatures range from 25–30°C, comfortably warm but not muggy. UV rays are strong, so SPF 50 sunscreen is essential. Occasional thunderstorms come and go quickly; just carry a foldable umbrella. Nights cool down to 17–19°C with a light breeze by the river—one light jacket is enough. 💡【Tips and pitfalls】 🔹 Don’t confuse "Gare de Lyon" with Lyon’s station! That’s in Paris. For Lyon departures, choose "Lyon Part-Dieu." 🔹 Lunch menus (Formule midi) in old town restaurants are about 40% cheaper than dinner but just as good. 🔹 Some outdoor shows at the Nuits de Fourvière festival in July are free. Check the official schedule for last-minute deals. 🔹 Lyon’s bouchon restaurants usually open at 7:30 PM. Arriving too early means no service. 🔹 Ticket machines only accept chip cards and coins. Older Visa/Mastercards without chips may not work. It’s best to buy tickets at the manned counter in advance. 🔹 Almost all shops close on Sundays, except bakeries and a few cafés. Plan shopping from Monday to Saturday. Lyon is the kind of city that grows on you the longer you stay. Three days isn’t enough, but it’s enough to fall in love. The July light, the rivers, the stone steps, and the evening breeze all say the same thing—take it slow, no rush💛

If I had to recommend the best French cities for winter travel, Lyon would definitely be near the top of my list. Compared to the hustle and bustle of Paris, Lyon offers a more relaxed and authentic lived-in vibe. Even when the temperature hovers just a few degrees above freezing, strolling through its streets still feels incredibly pleasant. With the peak season crowds gone, winter is the perfect time to slow down and appreciate this city, known for its rich history and profound culinary culture. My favorite part of this trip was taking a morning walk along the Saône River every day. The winter sun spilled over the water, reflecting the ancient buildings on both banks. Occasionally, white waterbirds would touch down, creating a scene as quiet and peaceful as an oil painting. Though the cold wind meant wearing a scarf and gloves, a cup of hot coffee was all it took to warm me right back up. Top Things to Experience in Winter · Strolling through Old Lyon (Vieux Lyon) Cobblestone alleys, colorful old buildings, and Renaissance-era streets feel especially atmospheric in winter. Without the summer crowds, you can take your time admiring every building and wandering through the famous Traboules (secret passageways), feeling as if you've stepped back in time into centuries-old Lyon. · Scaling Fourvière Hill for a Panoramic City View After taking the funicular to the top, you're greeted by the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. On clear winter days, the view is expansive, allowing you to take in Lyon's two rivers and the entire city. It might be chilly, but watching the sun slowly set and the city lights flicker on makes that moment truly worth it. · Soaking in the Winter Lights and Festive Vibe If you visit in December, the streets are draped in Christmas lights, and squares host Christmas markets. The air is filled with the aroma of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, and cheese. Walking at night, every corner brims with a strong holiday spirit, making you want to slow your pace and simply enjoy the winter romance. Food is the Biggest Surprise of Traveling in Lyon Lyon's reputation as the gastronomic capital of France is absolutely well-deserved. This time, I made sure to visit a few traditional Bouchon restaurants. The dining environments were cozy, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Besides classic French cuisine, I also enjoyed onion soup, beef stew, sausages, potato gratin, and various cheese dishes. The most blissful thing in winter is ending a day of walking by stepping into a toasty restaurant, ordering a steaming hot meal, and pairing it with a glass of red wine—your body warms up instantly. Rather than rushing through an itinerary, I prefer sitting in a restaurant, slowly savoring each dish, and embracing the French pace of life. Travel Tips · Winter daylight hours are shorter, so it's best to schedule outdoor attractions for the morning and head to the observation decks early in the afternoon for the sunset. · Staying warm is essential. Layering is the most convenient, and a beanie, scarf, and slip-resistant shoes are very practical. · Most attractions in Lyon are within walking distance, and getting around is very easy when combined with the metro and funiculars. · If you're planning a trip in December, book your accommodation early, as tourist numbers spike during the Festival of Lights (Fête des Lumières). This winter trip to Lyon wasn't about checking off tourist hotspots, but rather slowing down to soak in the city's charm woven by its streets, riverbanks, churches, and restaurants. Admiring historical architecture by day and strolling under twinkling lights by night, every day was simple yet fulfilling. Lyon might lack the glamour of Paris or the sunshine of the French Riviera, but in winter, it gains a quiet warmth that makes you want to stay longer. It truly made this city one of my most unforgettable travel memories in France.

Planning a trip to the ‘Gastronomic Capital of the World’? Lyon is far more than just incredible food (though, yes, the food is incredible!). If you are coming for the taste, don't miss these incredibly sensory experiences that define the city just as much as its cuisine. Here’s my definitive bucket list of Lyonnais secrets: 1️⃣ Scale Fourvière Hill (for the Kontrast): You simply cannot visit Lyon without going up to Fourvière Hill to see the massive white Basilica. It’s iconic. But the real sensory experience is stepping inside to see this incredible interior. The sheer gold and mosaic work is jaw-dropping! And don’t forget the panorama from the esplanade—it’s unmatched. 2️⃣ Explore the Roman Theatre (History): Right near the Basilica is the Théâtre antique de Lyon. Standing in an ancient Roman theater, built thousands of years ago, is a wild feeling. It’s a huge, quiet space with a powerful history. 3️⃣ Hunt for Giant Murals (Scale): Lyon doesn't just display art; it is art. Hunt down, the large-scale fresco paintings that cover entire buildings. The Fresque des Lyonnais near the Saône River is a masterpiece. 4️⃣ Time Travel in the Traboules (Secrets): Wander through the streets of Vieux Lyon. It’s perfect. But the real secret lies in the traboules. These are hidden Renaissance passageways that link streets through buildings. It’s like stepping into a secret world. 5️⃣ Experience a Bouchon near Place des Terreaux: You have to eat in a traditional Lyonnais restaurant (Bouchon) for the authentic experience. Tip: Start your meal planning near the beautiful City Hall and the ornate Place des Terreaux. ❓ Community Question: If you could only experience ONE of these: standing in the ancient theater, or finding the hidden traboules, which would you choose? Let me know below! 👇👀 #localfood #myitinerary #thingstodo #travel2026 #travel #couplestrip #staycation #citydaytours #tripblazers

Lyon is one of those cities that are absolutely perfect to explore in a single day. It boasts a compact historic center, stunning views, atmospheric streets, and world-renowned French cuisine. This itinerary will help you hit all the city's most beautiful spots and truly soak in its unique character. ☀️ Morning: Vieux Lyon and Medieval Streets Kick off your day in Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon)—one of the largest and best-preserved Renaissance neighborhoods in Europe. Its narrow cobblestone alleys, historic houses, and cozy squares perfectly capture the essence of authentic old-world France. Don't forget to check out the famous traboules—hidden passageways between buildings that were once used by local silk weavers and merchants. 📸 This is the ultimate spot for morning photography, right before the streets get packed with tourists. ⛪ Late Morning: Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière Head up Fourvière Hill, either on foot or by taking the funicular. This is where you'll find the majestic Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. The observation deck here serves up one of the best panoramic views of Lyon: the red roofs of the old town, the two rivers, and the modern districts stretching across the horizon. Many consider this to be the single most breathtaking view in the entire city. 🍷 Lunch: A Taste of Lyonnaise Cuisine Lyon is widely known as the gastronomic capital of France, which means eating lunch here is an attraction in its own right. Your best bet is to grab a table at a traditional Bouchon Lyonnais, where you can dig into local specialties and experience the true, lively vibe of Lyon. 🌉 Afternoon: Place Bellecour and the Riverbanks Continue your walking tour through Place Bellecour—one of the largest public squares in all of Europe. Afterward, make your way down to the banks of the Saône and Rhône rivers. It's a wonderful place for a stroll, offering great spots for people-watching while admiring the bridges and the stunning facades of historic buildings. 🌇 Evening: Sunset Over Lyon As evening approaches, head back up to one of the scenic viewpoints on Fourvière Hill, or take a leisurely evening walk right along the Saône river. When the sun starts to set, Lyon becomes incredibly magical: the historic buildings take on a gorgeous golden glow, and the twinkling city lights reflect beautifully on the water. It's the absolute perfect way to wrap up your day. 💡 Good to Know: · 🚶 Most of this itinerary is done on foot · 🚠 You can take the funicular to get to the top of Fourvière Hill · ⏳ Total time for the itinerary is around 8–10 hours · 📷 The best photo ops are in Vieux Lyon and at the Fourvière observation deck · 🍽 Definitely try the local food at a traditional bouchon The biggest takeaway from this itinerary is that in just 24 hours, Lyon lets you experience the absolute best of France: the rich history, gorgeous architecture, breathtaking views, and legendary food. That's exactly why so many travelers consider it one of the most charming and enjoyable cities in the country.

📍 Place: Lyon, France ✨ What it felt like: There was a relaxed, lived-in feeling everywhere. Walking along the rivers, I noticed how locals moved slowly—meeting friends, sitting by the water, and enjoying the end of the day without hurry. 👀 What stood out: The old town in Vieux Lyon felt like stepping into another time, with narrow cobblestone streets and warm-colored buildings. Small bouchons lined the streets, and the smell of traditional food drifted out in the evening air. The view from Fourvière Hill gave a wide, peaceful look over the entire city, especially beautiful as lights started turning on. Even the bridges had their own quiet charm, connecting different moods of the city. 💡 Exclusive tip: Take the funicular up to Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière before sunset, then walk down slowly—it’s less tiring and gives you changing views all the way. ❤️ Personal feeling: It felt like a city I’d enjoy with family—simple dinners, slow walks, and letting the evening stretch a little longer than planned. #Lyon #France #EveningWalks #VieuxLyon #SlowTravel #travel2026#travel#thingstodo

The bar is a converted small chapel; sipping a “Monastery Secret Brew” cocktail 🍸 under the stained glass windows really sets the mood. 🛏The room windows face the Rhône River, and at dusk, the light and clouds on the river surface pour in—truly breathtaking. When searching for train routes from Germany, search for Brixen. Don't forget to enjoy the panoramic view of Prague from the park on the grounds! ⑤ Loretta Church (Prague, Czech Republic 🇨🇿) It's less than a 10-minute walk from Prague Castle, but coming from Prague Castle involves an uphill climb... Flea markets in France are more than just shopping; they are an entire culture, complete with haggling, unexpected finds, lively conversations, and a special vibe. I’ve rounded up the 5 best markets in the country—from the legendary Parisian spots to the massive fairs in Lille and the South of France—so you can experience this firsthand. 1.
