Malmo travel guide and discussion

There’s so much I love about Copenhagen that putting it all together feels like a daunting task. So, I’m starting small with Malmö, Sweden’s third-largest city, which is just a 40-minute train ride away. Malmö’s city center is quite compact, making it easy to see the whole city in a leisurely day. You’ll find a mix of 14th-century brick Gothic architecture and lush, green parks. You can wander through the Old Town and then stroll into the Malmö City Library, which is full of modern design. And of course, when in Sweden, you can’t miss out on classic Swedish meatballs. If you enjoy aimless walks and soaking up the local atmosphere, I highly recommend this quick cross-border trip. Since it’s the off-season, there are very few tourists, making the whole city feel wonderfully relaxed to explore~ I’ll share more specific Malmö attractions in future posts! yeah

I honestly had no idea before visiting Northern Europe— While exploring Denmark, you can spontaneously hop on a train and be in Sweden just in time for lunch. No flights. No dragging luggage through airport security again. Board a train in Copenhagen, cross the Øresund Strait, and before you know it, your phone signal switches from 🇩🇰 Denmark to 🇸🇪 Sweden. This might be the easiest "international day trip" I’ve ever experienced. If it’s your first time in Denmark, I think Copenhagen is a city that doesn't require a packed itinerary. The cyclists, the people sipping coffee by the canals, the streets that look like they’ve been pulled straight from a design magazine... The pace here is completely different from what you'll find in Asia. And the one spot you absolutely cannot miss on your first visit is: 📍 Nyhavn It's that iconic row of colorful houses you see in photos. Buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries line the canal, with vintage boats docked in front and open-air restaurants flanking both sides. This is easily the most recognizable view in Copenhagen. After exploring Copenhagen by day, I’d save the evening for Tivoli Gardens. It’s not just about the rides. What truly struck me was the nighttime atmosphere. As dusk falls, lights begin to twinkle among the trees, and the entire park transforms into something out of a fairy tale. Tivoli itself is one of Copenhagen’s most iconic landmarks. There is a direct rail link between Copenhagen and Malmö, Sweden’s third-largest city. The train crosses the famous Øresund Bridge, reaching Malmö Central in about 30 minutes from downtown Copenhagen. Official travel guides even recommend Malmö as the perfect day-trip destination from Copenhagen. If you’re expecting the grand, big-city energy of Stockholm, Malmö isn’t that. Instead, it feels more like: "A cozy, quiet, and walkable Nordic town." Once you step out of Malmö Central, most attractions are within walking distance. Local tourism info describes the city center as compact and ideal for exploring on foot or by bike. Malmö Travel Old architecture, charming cafes, small squares, and bars... Even though it’s just across the bridge from Copenhagen, the vibe is uniquely its own. "When visiting Denmark, don’t just stay in Denmark." Bring your passport. Catch that train to Sweden. Thirty minutes later, you’ll find yourself in a whole new country. 🇩🇰🚆🇸🇪 Copenhagen × Malmö One trip, two countries.

Copenhagen serves as the capital, the largest city, and the principal port of the Kingdom of Denmark. As the nation's political, economic, cultural, and transportation hub, it stands out as a world-renowned international metropolis. Recognized by the United Nations as the "most livable city globally," Copenhagen also proudly ranks among the happiest cities in the world. Transportation 🚌 Buses: Download the FlixBus or Omio app. There are daily direct buses from Oslo, the capital of Norway 🇳🇴, to Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰. The route passes through the Swedish 🇸🇪 cities of Gothenburg, Helsingborg, and Malmö. From Malmö, you'll cross a spectacular cross-sea bridge to reach Denmark. The bus usually crosses the bridge right at sunset, offering absolutely breathtaking views. Since the cost of living in the Nordic region is notoriously high, a one-way bus ticket 🎫 costs €37.90 💶, so it's highly recommended to keep an eye on prices and book in advance. 🚌 Buses & Carpooling: You can use FlixBus or the European carpooling app BlaBlaCar to travel directly from Copenhagen 🇩🇰 to Hamburg, Germany 🇩🇪. Living costs in both Denmark and Germany are steep, which makes FlixBus tickets 🎫 on this route quite pricey—about €45 💶 for a one-way trip. However, I managed to book a ride with a driver via BlaBlaCar for just £25 💷. Whether you opt for a bus or a carpool, booking early is definitely the way to go. 🚌 City Public Transit: Download the DOT Tickets app and grab a day pass. The ticket 🎫 costs 90 DKK. ❄️ Preface · In Sweden, I learned the joy of “just right” After spending half a month in Sweden, my biggest takeaway wasn’t the breathtaking scenery but the Swedish philosophy of life called “Lagom”—not too much, not too little, just right. They can smile while drinking hot lingonberry juice in an ice hotel at minus 20 degrees Celsius, and they can stop working exactly at 3 PM to fully enjoy a cinnamon roll with coffee. This country blends cold and warmth in a way that’s addictive. · -- 📍 Stockholm · The design museum floating on water This city is made up of 14 islands, with water just a few steps away. The cobblestone streets in the old town creak underfoot, and around the corner, you’ll find the glass facade of the modern art museum—a perfect balance of contrasts. ✨ Highlights · Subway art gallery: Spend one ticket to see the “world’s longest art gallery.” The wisteria mural at T-Centralen station is a must-photograph spot. At Kungsträdgården station, archaeological ruins are displayed as decorations—very hardcore. · Old town (Gamla Stan): Mustard yellow and brick red houses packed together. Explore the alleys to find the Nobel Museum. It’s small but full of substance. · Vasa Museum: A 17th-century warship that was salvaged and almost fully restored. Standing under the ship and looking up gives you goosebumps. · Monteliusvägen viewpoint: A secret spot in the southern district overlooking City Hall and Lake Mälaren. At sunset, the whole city turns golden. Locals like to bring a bottle of wine and sit here in a daze. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Swedish meatballs: Don’t just think of IKEA. Try the handmade ones at Pelikan, an old restaurant in Södermalm, served with lingonberry sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. The flavor is next level. · Cinnamon roll: Join the locals for fika. Fabrique or Svedjan Bageri are recommended. The dough is moist and soft, with just the right amount of sugar filling. Every bite is pure happiness. · Shrimp sandwich: Open-faced, piled high with shrimp, boiled egg, and dill fish roe sauce. One sandwich is filling. 📌 Travel tips · A single subway ticket is valid for 75 minutes and can be used on buses and ferries. Download the SL app to buy tickets directly. · Most museums are closed on Mondays. Thursday evenings often have free entry. Check the official website in advance. · -- 📍 Gothenburg · Sea breeze and roller coasters on the west coast Sweden’s second-largest city lacks the polish of the capital but has the rough and casual vibe of a port city. In summer, the sea breeze mixes with the screams from amusement parks—it’s exhilarating. ✨ Highlights · Liseberg amusement park: The largest roller coaster park in Northern Europe. Outdoor concerts are held on summer nights. The thrill level is maxed out. · Fish church (Feskekôrka): Looks like a church but is actually a seafood market. Fresh oysters with white wine, sitting by the pier in the breeze—pure enjoyment. · Haga old town: Rows of colorful wooden houses. Everyone has a giant cinnamon roll. Find a café and lounge for the afternoon. · Gothenburg archipelago: In summer, hop on a ferry to island-hop and bike around. Steam in a sauna on a deserted reef, then jump straight into the sea—this is a Swedish-approved summer ritual. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Seafood: The west coast is Sweden’s seafood kitchen. Pickled herring and smoked salmon at the fish market are must-tries. · Pea soup with pancakes: If you’re in Gothenburg on a Thursday, find an old restaurant and order this traditional meal. The Swedish military has eaten it for decades. 📌 Travel tips · Summer is the best season in Gothenburg. Archipelago tours and amusement parks are in full swing. · The city center is small. You can explore on foot or rent a bike. · -- 📍 Kiruna · The ice and fire saga inside the Arctic Circle Visiting Sweden in winter without chasing the northern lights is a missed opportunity. Kiruna is the northernmost town in Sweden. It’s truly cold, but the beauty leaves you speechless. ✨ Highlights · Icehotel: Rebuilt every winter with ice sculptures, ice rooms, ice beds, and reindeer skin sleeping bags. Sleep one night at –5℃ and revive yourself in the morning with a hot lingonberry juice. · Aurora sky station: Take a cable car up the mountain. It’s one of the world’s best spots to watch the northern lights. Sit by the fire eating cinnamon rolls while the green lights dance—it’s worth the cold. · Sami cultural experience: Feed reindeer, listen to traditional Sami chanting (Joik), stay in red wooden cabins, and experience the survival wisdom of the Arctic Circle’s indigenous people. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Reindeer meat: A traditional Sami ingredient. You can try it in Kiruna’s restaurants. The meat is firm and has a wild flavor. · Fermented herring: For the brave only. The can opens on the third Thursday of August every year. It’s best to eat outdoors, served with flatbread and onions. Imagine the taste yourself. 📌 Travel tips · Aurora season runs from September to March. Days are very short in winter. Plan your itinerary carefully to avoid traveling in the dark. · Dress in layers like an onion: windproof and waterproof outerwear + down jacket + wool base layer. All are essential. · -- 📍 Malmö · Where modern magic meets pastoral idyll The first stop after crossing the Öresund Bridge from Copenhagen, Sweden’s third-largest city. The twisting Turning Torso skyscraper distorts the skyline, while the southern Skåne countryside pulls you back to a slower pace of life. ✨ Highlights · Turning Torso: A twisted white skyscraper, one of Northern Europe’s tallest buildings. It looks like a sci-fi movie set. · Western harbor colorful houses: Cycle by the sea past rows of Instagram-worthy colorful houses. Every photo looks great. · Ven island: A hidden gem in southern Skåne. Cycle through wheat and rapeseed fields, holding a cinnamon roll while watching the Baltic Sea sunset. Ultimate healing. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Scandinavian wine: Believe it or not, Skåne has wineries. Solaris white grape wines are fresh and clean. · Princess cake: Green almond marzipan wrapped around cream and custard. You can find it in Malmö’s dessert shops. Looks as good as it tastes. 📌 Travel tips · Take the train from Copenhagen Airport across the Öresund Bridge. It’s just a half-hour trip to Malmö, perfect for a side trip. · The best time to cycle on Ven island is May to September. The rapeseed fields in bloom are stunning. · -- 📍 Västerås · The silent echoes of the Viking age If you’re tired of Stockholm, drive an hour west to explore real Viking ruins. No crowds here, just ancient stone ships and the sound of the wind. ✨ Highlights · Anundshög ancient burial mounds: Sweden’s largest and most important Viking site. Climb the huge mound for a panoramic view of wheat fields and stone ship formations. It’s cinematic. · Stone ship formations: Outlines of ships made from large stones, used by Vikings for rituals and gatherings. Walking among them, you can feel an ancient mysterious power. · Runestones: Scattered around, carved with Viking runes. Touching the cold carvings feels like a high-five across a thousand years. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Back in Västerås city, warm up with fish soup and crispy bread at a lakeside restaurant. Cozy and satisfying. 📌 Travel tips · Driving from Stockholm is easiest. The E18 highway takes about 1 hour. Parking is free. · The ruins are free to visit. The Viking farm and café at the entrance are only open in summer. Dress warmly if you visit in winter—the open wind is fierce. · -- 🍽️ Sweden food essentials Besides the above, these are also worth adding to your list: · Pickled herring: The soul of the cold table. Available in mustard, dill, and onion flavors. Eat with boiled potatoes and sour cream. · Crispbread (knäckebröd): A staple that lasts a year without spoiling. Spread with butter, piled with shrimp, or paired with cheese. A Swedish bakery must-have. · Lingonberry jam: A universal sauce. Goes with meatballs, pancakes, and oatmeal. Many Swedes pick lingonberries themselves from the forest to make jam. · -- 📋 Pre-trip essentials · Visa: Schengen area. Apply to the country where you’ll stay the longest. Prepare complete documents and don’t falsify your itinerary. · Safety: There have been recent thefts targeting tourists in Sweden. Don’t leave valuables in your car. Avoid showing off. Keep your bag close. Call 112 for emergencies, 11414 for non-emergencies. · Environment: Most hotels don’t provide toothbrushes or slippers. Bringing your own is more reliable. · Payment: Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) cover almost everything. Many places are cashless. Bring a small amount of Swedish krona just in case. · Language: Swedish is the main language, but English is widely spoken. Most young people can chat easily. · Culture: Swedes value personal space. Don’t stand too close in line. Speak softly in public. Tips are included in the bill and don’t need to be given separately. Sweden’s charm isn’t on a checklist. It’s in the scent of cinnamon rolls at 3 PM and in the moment of shivering wrapped in a sleeping bag on an ice bed inside the Arctic Circle, laughing out loud. Pick the direction you want most and just go.

One of the most special experiences of this Nordic tour is taking an overnight train from Copenhagen to Stockholm via Malmö. It’s actually very convenient to get to Malmö from Copenhagen Central Station in about 40 minutes or so. Then transfer to the SJ night train at night, sleep and then arrive in the center of Stockholm the next morning, for those who don't want to catch a flight and want to save money on a hotel for a night, it's quite worth trying. This time my friend and I directly booked a 3-person compartment, however only the two of us were actually staying, so the space was more comfortable than expected. On average, it costs about HK$700 per person, including transportation and overnight accommodation, which I think is quite reasonable for Nordic prices. Before getting in the car I was actually a little worried if it would be old or unclean, but after entering the cabin it felt quite surprising. Although the cabin is small, the design is quite practical, with three beds, upper, middle and lower, with pillows, duvets, hangers and small storage space, which can fit two large suitcases. The overall maintenance is good and the environment is cleaner than expected. In terms of amenities, each truck has a separate washroom, while the bathrooms are shared. When I woke up in the morning I had a look and both the washroom and bathroom were kept quite clean and the basic supplies were complete. This level of hygiene is quite good for a long overnight train. After a night drive, the train travels all the way north from southern Sweden. The train wobbles a little as it moves, but instead it feels like a sleeping cradle and I slept quite well myself. When I woke up the next morning, I opened the curtains and saw the scenery of the Swedish countryside slowly moving backwards, which felt completely different from flying, more of a travel flavor. If it were purely for speed comparison, the plane would certainly be faster. But including getting to the airport, security check, waiting and transportation time, it may not be too far apart. Most importantly, the night train goes directly from the city center to the city center, wakes up and arrives at your destination, the whole thing is really much easier. If you then go to Copenhagen and Stockholm for a free trip, I think you can consider trying the night train, not necessarily the fastest way, but it must be one of the most travel Feel ways. 🚆✨ #Copenhagen #Stockholm #SJNightTrain #NordicTrain #SwedenFreeTrain #DenmarkFreeTravel #NightTrain #EuropeanRailTravel #Stockholm #Copenhagen #Malmö #ScandinaviaTravel

Since it happens to be cherry blossom season, how could I not scout out some great spots for flower viewing? I stumbled upon a place called Vattenpark online, and without a second thought, I hopped on an early train to check it out! Although the flowers haven't reached full bloom yet (Pic 2), those clusters of soft pink petals look absolutely stunning against the clear blue sky (Pics 1, 3)! The trees are bursting with pink buds ready to pop (Pic 4), and the gentle morning sunlight instantly washed away all the exhaustion of my early train ride. Plus, it's incredibly accessible and convenient, located right near Hyllie Station. Just a few steps out of the station and you're surrounded by the vibes of spring (Pic 5)! After admiring the blossoms and snapping some perfect photos, you can easily head over to the visually striking, avant-garde Emporia mall (Pic 6) and the famous Malmö Arena (Pic 7) right next door. It's a seamless transition into a day of shopping and dining! Sometimes, the best travel surprises are these "just right" encounters. Spring in Northern Europe is truly so gentle. 📍 Viewing Spot: Vattenpark (near Hyllie Station) 📍 Nearby Landmarks: Emporia mall, Malmö Arena

This trip really wouldn't be complete without a visit to IKEA! Since we were already in Malmö, we had to see what was different about the IKEA in its birthplace! After walking around, the conclusion was: the global IKEA DNA is incredibly strong. Whether it's the classic blue and yellow exterior (Figure 1), the towering, massive warehouse area (Figure 2), or the iconic red shelf numbers (Figure 3), it's basically exactly the same as the ones we usually shop at. The only difference is that the signage is in Swedish, which we can't understand! However! The highlight was definitely their restaurant (Figures 4-5). It turns out that the food at IKEA in its birthplace is indeed quite delicious, and it didn't disappoint at all! 🍽️ Must-try highlights at Swedish IKEA (Figure 6): 🇸🇪 Soul of Swedish Meatballs: Of course, you have to order a plate of these! The meatballs were firm and juicy, paired with a signature brown sauce, creamy mashed potatoes, and sweet and sour cranberry sauce—the flavor was even more authentic and richer than what I've had abroad! 🇸🇪 Extra-Plenty Seafood Salad: The ingredients from the source were truly generous! Fresh shrimp, boiled eggs, and plenty of lettuce made it refreshing and appetizing. 🇸🇪 Crispy Fried Fish Fillet with Fries: Golden and crispy fried fish fillet, topped with plenty of freshly fried fries and special tartar sauce—a generous portion that was incredibly satisfying! 🇸🇪 Strawberry Dessert: Finally, a delicate sweet pie piled high with strawberries completed the perfect "IKEA Roots-Seeking Feast." Although browsing the store had a strange sense of familiarity, sitting in the spacious restaurant in the original country, ordering a table full of local delicacies, made this wonderful pilgrimage experience feel incredibly worthwhile and full of ritual! 📍 Attraction Name: IKEA Malmö 📍 Address: Kulagshusvägen 1, 215 86 Malmö, Sweden #SwedenTourism #Malmö #IKEA #IKEAHome #SwedishMeatballs #PilgrimageSeries #NordicFood #EuropeanSpecialForces #TripMoments

In Malmo’s old town, no matter which cute cobbled street you wander down, you’ll totally run into St Peter’s Church — it’s literally impossible to miss! This place is a total icon for Malmo, and honestly, it deserves every bit of hype. My brother and I started out vibing by the front, snapping endless pics (the church exterior is sooo photo-worthy 😍). Then we noticed a bunch of fellow tourists casually strolling inside, even though the main door looked kinda closed. Cue massive FOMO 😅, so we double-checked the signs and discovered the side entrances were open. Of course we had to sneak in! Inside = whole new level. There were so many people just staring at the epic design (us included 🙋🏻♀️). St Peter’s Church was built way back in the 14th century, so it’s legit ancient. It’s a classic gothic vibe, and apparently, it’s THE monument for church architecture in Scania. Shoutout to Google for educating me 😂. The murals inside are 🔥 (like, masterpieces from hundreds of years ago), but they’re super fragile. No blitz allowed when snapping pics! Respect the art, people. It was honestly jaw-dropping to see how well-preserved this place is. There were some renovations happening, but everyone was still in full tourist mode, living their best awe-struck life. If you’re in Malmo, def put St Peter’s Church on your hit list! You never know if an entrance looks closed, so check all the doors and don’t miss out. We totally lucked out 😎. Quick Facts: St Peter's Church Address: Göran Olsgatan 4, 211 22 Malmö, Sweden Opening Hours: Usually open Mon–Fri 10:00–17:00, Sat 10:00–15:00, Sun 10:00–14:00. Hours can vary during events or renovations! Ready for your own epic church adventure? Don’t sleep on this gem! #sweden #malmo #travel2026 #church

Located in southern Sweden across the Øresund Strait from Copenhagen, Malmö is one of Scandinavia’s most creative and culturally vibrant destinations. 🇸🇪 A highlight for art lovers is Malmö Konsthall, one of Europe’s largest exhibition halls dedicated to contemporary art. 🎨 Opened in 1975, the striking building was designed to flood the gallery with natural light through its glass and skylight ceilings. The result is a serene and spacious environment that allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in exhibitions featuring both international and Scandinavian artists. Over the years, works by renowned figures such as Edvard Munch and Keith Haring have been displayed here. The gallery hosts around ten exhibitions each year and attracts over 200,000 visitors annually! Equally fascinating is Moderna Museet Malmö, a branch of Sweden’s famous modern art museum. Located in a converted industrial building, it showcases thought provoking works from the 20th century to today, blending Swedish creativity with global contemporary art. The museum’s exhibitions include painting, sculpture, and experimental installations that appeal to both seasoned art enthusiasts and curious travelers. For independent bookshops and creative spaces, explore the bohemian neighbourhood of Möllevången. Local recommendations often highlight alternative bookstores and art focused shops where you can browse design books, zines, and small press publications while enjoying Malmö’s relaxed café culture. ☕️ Spring is the perfect time to visit. 🌸🌷Mild temperatures between 15–25°C make it ideal for walking between galleries, parks, and cafés while enjoying the city’s lively cultural atmosphere. After exploring museums and bookstores, take a stroll through nearby green spaces such as Slottsparken, where canals, trees, and swans create a tranquil escape in the heart of the city. #springtravel #travel2026 #travel #couplestrip #thingstodo #familytravel #museums #citydaytours #city #sweden #art #bookstore #scandinavia #exhibition #culture #europe

#viana’sjourney After reaching Conpehagen, I took a train from the same airport to Malmo, about 30 minutes ride, I arrive at this small town which were so calm. First thing I noticed was, there’s a lot of Arab’s restaurant and stall over here, easy for fellow muslim to find halal food. I visited Pildammsprken (leisure park) and the sauna house (both male and female can share the sauna place and many were fully without clothing, dont be surprise). Not to forget around the city where they have some big churches, (very elegant looking building everywhere). But, if you plan to visit, spring are the best time, you can see the canola flowers bloom in Skane and it’s definitely mesmerizing!

I took a ferry from Rostock Germany to trelleborg Sweden arriving in central station Malmo, I booked a single room at moment hotels conveniently right opposite the station which was ideal as it was late , check in was easy and friendly too! The hotel it’s self was very Swedish ikea looking and modern , clean , bright and very affordable . I was only staying one night but I did check out the centre of Malmo , great shops and restaurants and managed to find a H&M in the square …. Would definitely recommend this hotel if in Malmo👍👍

It was towards the end of Septemper and last Fall before Covid happened and cities started locking down. I had the privilege to have the chance to visit this quaint and charming Scandinavian town at the southern tip, connecting Sweden to Copenhagen, Denmark via the Oresund, the city of Malmo. In contrast to the more tourist frequented capital, Stockholm with it bright colored and upbeat atmosphere, the mood in Malmo was very relaxed. The old town had a bohemian vibe, with its cobbled stone streets, red brick churches and fortress and houses. The open air plaza with its array of shops and markets, as well as restaurants and bars also added to the more carefree mood, made more possible by the foliage and the temperate weather perfect for the outdoors brought by the Autumn breeze. #fallingforfall

such a beautiful chilled out place, a lot to see and do with amazing food and bars. a slower pace of life is definitely appreciated in a city like this and is so refreshing compared to normal life back here at home. I would recommend everyone to go at least once and make sure you take a walk along the river and around the coast at night. don’t try the salted liquorice though 😝#sweden #malmo

#bucketlistreboot Take a trip to Malmö, Sweden. Did you know you can go from Copenhagen to Malmö in Sweden in less than an hour? Yes, you can get the train from København H (Copenhagen Central Station) which is every 20 minutes and the travel time is only 35 minutes to the centre of Malmö. Nice and easy! This way, you also get to see/be on Øresund Bridge – a combined railway and motorway bridge across the Øresund strait between Denmark and Sweden. Basically one country wanted a bridge and the other wanted a tunnel, so they made the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe (nearly 8km long). #passionpassport #copenhagen #malmo #denmark

Sitting right at the southern tip of Sweden and connected to Copenhagen by the Øresund Bridge, Malmö is incredibly easy to combine with a Denmark trip. What makes it interesting is the contrast. 🏘️ Gamla Väster for cobbled streets and colourful old houses 🏙️ Turning Torso for the modern skyline 🌊 Västra Hamnen for waterfront walks 🏰 Malmö Castle for a dose of history ☕ Lilla Torg for cafés and atmosphere 🏖️ Ribersborg Beach for open views across the water One minute the city feels historic and relaxed, the next it feels modern and very Scandinavian. And because Malmö is compact, you can see a surprising amount in a short stay without spending the whole day travelling across the city. 💡 Travel tip: If you’re already visiting Copenhagen, Malmö makes an easy add-on. Cross the Øresund and turn one city break into two countries. Would you add Malmö to your next Scandinavia trip? Hey everyone, I just got back from Copenhagen, and I seriously advise you not to go in October–November! It's not because the weather is unbearable; it's because the tourist crowds have receded, and the whole city is as quiet as a Nordic art film. That sense of relaxation makes you want to just "veg out" and never go back to work 😭 It's uncrowded, flight and hotel prices have quietly dropped, and you can have a corner café all to yourself just to zone out. You can eat happily for just over 200 DKK per person. Just copy my itinerary—this trip really left a lasting impression. · — 📝 Must-visit spots 📍Nyhavn | A postcard view where fairy tales come to life (free) Nyhavn in October–November is finally free of crowds. The colorful houses reflect on the canal, with less summer hustle and more of that deep autumn clarity. I recommend going around 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM when the light is softest; every shot is wallpaper-worthy. ✅ Make sure to walk to the middle of the bridge for a panoramic view of both banks. ✅ There are plenty of outdoor seats along the shore; wrapping yourself in a blanket, drinking hot mulled wine, and watching the boats go by is the right way to experience Nyhavn. 📍Grundtvigs Kirke | A stunning space few tourists know about (free) This expressionist building has even more atmosphere on cloudy days. The massive pipe organ design, built from millions of yellow bricks, will leave you speechless the moment you walk in. Light streams through the high windows, and the space is so quiet you can only hear your own footsteps. ◾ Open Monday–Saturday; it's less crowded in the afternoon. ◾ Please stay quiet when taking photos; this is a spiritual corner for the locals. 📍Rundetaarn | The perfect spot to overlook the autumn colors of the Old Town (admission 40 DKK) No stairs here—it's a spiral ramp all the way to the top, which is super knee-friendly. In late October to early November, you can see the golden-red rooftops of the Old Town from the top, with the distant sea shimmering with cold light. ✅ I recommend going on a sunny evening; the colors are most magical half an hour before sunset. ✅ There's also a small art exhibition inside the tower, which you can check out while you're there. 📍Louisiana Museum of Modern Art | Enjoy art and sea breezes by the coast (admission 145 DKK) It's about a 40-minute train ride from the city, but it's absolutely worth the trip. The museum itself is a work of art, with the Øresund Strait right outside the huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The sea in autumn and winter is gray-blue and calm; you could sit by the window and zone out for an entire afternoon. ◾ The sculpture garden on the lawn pairs perfectly with the withered autumn branches. ◾ The sandwiches at the museum café are surprisingly delicious. · — 🍜 Must-eat food ✅ Smørrebrød: Rye bread base piled high with shrimp, roast beef, or smoked salmon. The explosion of layers in every bite makes it Denmark's national lunch. ✅ Pølsevogn (Danish hot dog): A little bit of happiness you can buy from a street cart. A crispy sausage tucked into a soft bun, topped with mustard and fried onions—it's an instant energy boost in the cold wind. ✅ Kanelsnegle (cinnamon roll): Copenhagen's cinnamon rolls are huge and rich in cinnamon flavor. Pair one with a black coffee for the perfect winter afternoon tea. ✅ Wienerbrød (Danish pastry): Crispy, flaky layers with custard or jam filling. Have one with hot tea for breakfast to wake yourself up. ✅ Æblegløgg (hot apple cider): A seasonal autumn/winter drink. Warm, sweet, and fragrant with cinnamon and clove spices, it's milder than mulled wine and can be found at street Christmas markets. · — 📅 Itinerary 🚩Day 1: Arrive → Walk and take photos at Nyhavn → Drink hot mulled wine by the canal in the evening → Walk to the area near Rundetaarn for a Smørrebrød dinner. 🚩Day 2: Wake up early and head to Grundtvigs Kirke to experience the tranquility → Eat a hot dog on the street for lunch → Climb Rundetaarn for the sunset in the afternoon → Go to the Meatpacking District in the evening to find a small bistro for cinnamon rolls and hot apple cider. 🚩Day 3: Take the train to the Louisiana Museum for half a day → Return to the city to browse the boutiques and vintage shops on Strøget → Walk along the lakes in the evening → Depart. 3 days and 3 nights of a relaxed itinerary. Sleep in every day, no rushing, just go with the flow. Copenhagen in this season is perfect for slowing down and immersing yourself in life. · — ⚠️ Tips & advice 1. The temperature difference is large in October–November, and the sea breeze makes it feel even colder. Be sure to bring a windbreaker and a scarf; "onion-style" layering is the most practical. 2. Many museums and art galleries are closed on Mondays. Be sure to check their official websites for opening hours before planning your itinerary so you don't have a wasted trip. 3. You can buy the Copenhagen Card by the day. It covers most attraction tickets and public transport, which works out to be much cheaper than buying individual tickets. 4. The bike lanes are wider than the sidewalks. Never stand in the bike lane while walking; locals ride very fast and won't ring their bells to warn you. 5. Tipping at restaurants is not mandatory. A service charge is usually included in the bill. If you feel the service was great, you can round up the total, but there's no need to add too much extra. —— 💛 Closing thoughts Copenhagen in October–November has no crowded throngs of people, only crisp air, warm candlelight, and time that has slowed down. If you also want to briefly escape the fast-paced life, this place will gently catch you 😍 Before the polar night sets in, go to Northern Europe and spend a few quiet days.
