I went to Abashiri City in Hokkaido! The Abashiri Prison Museum is an open-air history museum that preserves and displays the former buildings of Abashiri Prison. The site area is about 3.5 times the size of the Tokyo Dome! The last time I went was during Golden Week when I was in high school. I still remember being woken up by my mother saying, "We're going to Abashiri Prison!" and being shocked that Abashiri Prison was on Golden Week as a high school girl 😂😂😂😇. I wondered what I was looking at back then? It was a very educational revisit, so I've put together a summary✍️ There are many important cultural properties and registered cultural properties, and the oldest building still standing was built 6 years after the prison came to Abashiri, more than 130 years ago.
