🏯🌸 Byōdō-in Temple – Heaven Reflected in Water
#summervacay
Uji, just south of Kyoto, and you’ll find a place where time slows and beauty lingers.
Right at its heart stands the Byōdō-in Temple, a 1,000-year-old vision of Buddhist paradise — quiet, graceful, and perfectly mirrored in the water below.
✨ What Makes It Magical?
The Phoenix Hall (鳳凰堂) looks like it’s floating on the pond — symmetrical, golden, timeless
Built in the Heian period (1053!), originally a nobleman’s villa turned into a Pure Land temple
Two bronze phoenixes perch on the roof — guardians of peace and rebirth 🔥
The reflection of the temple in the water = pure serenity for your feed 📸
💡 Pro Tips:
Arrive early for fewer crowds & soft morning light
Don’t skip the museum next door — it holds the original phoenix statues and Buddha sculpture
Pair this visit with matcha tasting by the Uji River afterwards 🍵
Byōdō-in isn’t just a temple —
It’s a glimpse into how Japan imagines paradise: still, balanced, and beautifully imperfect.

Wisteria trellis at Byodoin Temple's Phoenix Hall ❤️
2025.4.29
I came here to see the wisteria flowers!
I've been here a few times, but only during the autumn leaves season, and the wisteria was also very beautiful!
However, it was a bit difficult to take a picture of the wisteria and Byodoin Phoenix Hall together, as there was only one spot, and everyone gathered in the same place!
As expected of Kyoto! Nothing beats flowers, autumn leaves, and temples! The atmosphere was very nice and I had a relaxing time! !
Even after leaving Byodoin Phoenix Hall, there were quite a lot of wisteria in the city, and the whole of Uji was promoting wisteria! ! Lol

A Glimpse into Japan’s Timeless Elegance: Byodo-In Temple
#japantrip #travel #thingstodo #kyoto #japan #uji #temple #solotrip
Nestled in the charming town of Uji, Kyoto, Byodo-In Temple is a masterpiece of Heian-era architecture that feels like a gateway to Japan’s past. The temple’s iconic Phoenix Hall, with its graceful silhouette mirrored in a tranquil pond, is simply breathtaking. Walking through the temple grounds, I was struck by the serenity of the place, enhanced by the soft rustling of trees and the distant sound of flowing water. The onsite museum offers a fascinating look at Buddhist artifacts and the temple’s rich history. Whether you’re a history buff, a photography enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Byodo-In is an unforgettable stop in Kyoto.
