Whisky-themed Tour
Scottish whisky is deeply rooted in Scottish culture and is hailed as the 'water of life' of Scotland. This trip to Glasgow includes visits to two famous whisky distilleries of completely different styles to uncover the secrets of single malt whisky. Departing from Edinburgh on a Rabbie's tour bus, we pass by the World Heritage-listed 'Forth Bridge' and the 'Stirling' Castle, where Scottish kings once resided. After stopping for photos, we head straight to the first distillery, Glengoyne Distillery, established in 1833. This distillery is renowned for using water flowing down from the hills by Loch Lomond to brew traditional single malt whisky. It was awarded the Royal Warrant in 1984 and supplies whisky to the British Royal Family (the two buildings currently in use are preserved from the original site). The second distillery, Deanston Distillery, is known as the whisky distillery for the literary youth, staying true to 19th-century brewing techniques. It only uses barley grown in Scotland and processes it with a malt mash mixer (currently the largest mixer in Scotland). For commercial confidentiality, tour guides at both distilleries ask visitors to set their phones to airplane mode before showing the whisky-making process, and photos can only be taken in designated areas. After the tour, visitors are invited to taste two different aged whiskies for free. If you can't finish, you can take it with you. My daughter and I only dared to sip lightly during this session, while our foreign friends drank every last drop. Personally, I found the whisky from the first distillery to have a more layered taste and a lingering finish, while the whisky from the second distillery was intense and lively! (2023/01)
