Undoubtedly, Mount Inasa is the most popular spot for night view viewing, where you can have a bird's eye view of Nagasaki's Usugata city, but it will be quite far if you live in Glover Hill. In fact, the night view of Kanyama Park, which is about a 2-minute walk from the second gate of Glover Garden, is also one of the most beautiful night views in Nagasaki. You can see the night view of the Goddess Bridge, the port, and Nagasaki city from the side instead of a bird's eye view. It is not as crowded as Mt. Inasa, and you can enjoy the night view from the beautiful observatory that was renovated in 2014. You are also lucky enough to see the night cherry blossoms. #summervacay My 5-day North Kyushu trip left me with a clear favorite: Nagasaki! Mojiko came in second, while Beppu and Yufuin, honestly, were mostly just for the novelty of their "diet" products. Nagasaki is truly a special place. It's a city that carries profound history, yet it's also rich in culture and boasts beautiful scenery. The pedestrian streets near Meganebashi (Spectacles Bridge) were wonderfully uncrowded and offered great prices. I found a mochi shop there with an incredibly delicious strawberry daifuku for just ¥200 – it literally burst in my mouth! Glover Garden was also stunning, and the ¥600 entrance fee felt like a steal, especially with elevators making it easy to explore the expansive grounds. If I ever get another chance, I would absolutely love to spend three full days in Nagasaki! Set on the hillside of Minami-Yamate, the garden is full of charming Western-style buildings from the Meiji era, including the famous Glover Residence—the oldest Western-style wooden house in Japan. Walking along the cobblestone paths lined with seasonal flowers, I loved how the architecture blends Western design with Japanese roof tiles and beautiful gardens. Inside the Glover House, the period furniture and sunlit rooms really made it easy to imagine life back then for foreign merchants living here. The views over Nagasaki Harbor from different spots were absolutely breathtaking—the crisp air, distant mountains, and sparkling bay made for some of my favorite photo moments. One fun surprise was finding the “Heart Stones” hidden along the paths—there’s a local legend that couples who find and touch them will stay together, which added a cute, romantic touch to the visit. What I really appreciated was the peaceful vibe of the whole place. It wasn’t overcrowded, so we could take our time exploring and just soak in the atmosphere. The garden is easy to navigate with escalators and plenty of benches to relax on, making the visit comfortable and leisurely. If you’re visiting Nagasaki, I’d definitely recommend Glover Garden. The shores are abundant in seafood. If, like me, you are visiting in May/ June, remember it's the loquat (biwa) season. #Loquat fruits and loquat products are ubiquitous around the city. I arrived expecting to see memorials and museums, but what I found was a soulful, scenic city that balances its poignant history with serene beauty and quiet resilience. I started my journey at the Nagasaki Peace Park and the Atomic Bomb Museum. The moment I stood before the Peace Statue, its hand pointing to the sky, I felt the weight of history pressing gently on my shoulders. The museum offered heart-wrenching stories, yet was filled with messages of hope and peace. It reminded me that Nagasaki is not only a city of sorrow—but also of strength. From there, I wandered to Glover Garden, perched on a hill with sweeping views over Nagasaki’s harbor. The old Western-style houses and lush gardens told another story: one of global connection and cultural fusion. Nagasaki was Japan’s window to the world during its centuries of isolation, and you can still feel that spirit in the city’s architecture and cuisine. A visit to Dejima revealed more of that history. Once an artificial island where Dutch traders lived in isolation, today it stands as a fascinating museum complex that brings history to life. One of my favorite moments was taking the ropeway up Mount Inasa just before sunset. The panoramic view of Nagasaki’s city lights shimmering against the darkening sky took my breath away—it’s one of Japan’s top night views for a reason. Best Time to Visit: Spring (March–May) or autumn (October–November) offer the perfect weather for exploring and enjoying Nagasaki’s vibrant colors. Helpful Tips: Try Champon noodles and Castella cake—local specialties born from Nagasaki’s unique blend of cultures. A tram ride through the city is not only nostalgic but practical.
