All Trip Moments about Skogarfoss
Iceland: Land of Fire and Water (...And Puffins)
Iceland defies expectations at every turn. One moment you’re strolling through Reykjavík’s colourful streets, cosy cafés, and imposing cathedral; the next you’re beneath a roaring waterfall, surrounded by mist and moss. The capital is small but buzzing, a perfect starting point for wild adventures.
Beyond the city, nature steals the show. Black sand beaches stretch into the fog, volcano cones rear up in the distance, and waterfalls like Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss thunder down cliffs. Dettifoss is Europe's most powerful waterfall, churning through 200 tonnes per second! Puffins nest along the coast, comically charming with their bright beaks and clumsy landings.
Make sure to walk up some of the volcanos, including Grabrok, Hverfjall volcanic trail and the Kerid Crater. If you enjoy that then go and see the LAVA centre where you can learn about how Iceland was formed and how volcanos work! Intersperse your volcanos with waterfalls for the perfect balance, I'd especially recommend Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Faxafoss, and Gullfoss
A really nice addition was the tomato farm and restaurant where 39% of Iceland's tomatoes are grown in an enormous greenhouse!

These Are the Most Beautiful and Magical Waterfalls in Iceland 🌈📸🌍
Iceland is a land of fire and ice, but also of water—thundering, crashing, jaw-droppingly beautiful water. Here are the most stunning waterfalls you need to add to your Iceland itinerary:
1. Gullfoss
Located on the Golden Circle route, Gullfoss (the “Golden Falls”) is one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. It plunges in two dramatic stages into a deep canyon—absolutely unforgettable.
2. Skógafoss
This wide, powerful curtain of water drops 60 meters and creates rainbows on sunny days. You can walk right up to the base—and get soaked—or climb the stairs for a panoramic view from the top.
3. Seljalandsfoss
Famous for its unique path that lets you walk behind the waterfall—a magical experience, especially at sunset. Bring a rain jacket!
4. Dettifoss
Europe’s most powerful waterfall lies in the north of Iceland. Raw, loud, and otherworldly, Dettifoss is for those who want to feel nature’s force up close.
5. Goðafoss
Nicknamed “Waterfall of the Gods,” this elegant horseshoe-shaped beauty is steeped in legend and easily accessible on the Ring Road in North Iceland.
6. Háifoss
One of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland (122 meters), located in a remote valley. The view from the edge is jaw-dropping—worth the bumpy ride to get there!
7. Svartifoss
In Skaftafell National Park, this waterfall flows over stunning black basalt columns. It’s a short but scenic hike and a photographer’s dream.
8. Hraunfossar & Barnafoss
A duo of unique waterfalls near Borgarnes. Hraunfossar is a series of gentle cascades streaming from lava fields, while Barnafoss is more powerful and turbulent.
Tips for Chasing Waterfalls in Iceland:
- Always wear waterproof gear and sturdy shoes—many trails are wet and slippery.
- Some waterfalls are in remote areas—check road conditions and weather before heading out.
- Respect nature: stick to marked paths, especially near cliffs and mossy areas.
✨Whether you’re road-tripping the Ring Road or exploring just a few regions, these waterfalls will make your journey through Iceland unforgettable. Don’t forget your camera—these spots are pure magic. 📸💧

#snowscape
This is an overwhelming waterfall with a width of 25m and a drop of 60m, and is one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland.
I was speechless at its dynamism and power.
It's a shame that you can't get very close in the winter when there is snow, probably because it's dangerous. If you get too close, the water spray is amazing. The road to the waterfall is also covered in frozen snow and is slippery, so I recommend wearing studded shoes.
The hill next to the waterfall was also covered in snow, and the morning sun shone on it, creating a very beautiful view.

A glowing waterfall at night: Seljalandsfoss
After leaving the Golden Circle, although this area is less touristy, there are still plenty of accommodation options. This time, I want to introduce Boutique Hotel Anna, where you can see up to 10 waterfalls in one go. The room size is reasonable, but the bathroom is ridiculously small 😆.
There aren’t many dining options nearby, so I usually eat at the hotel restaurant. The food there is excellent, especially the mussels. Among all the restaurants I’ve tried, this is the only one that serves mussels, so of course, I had to order them. The steak is tender, and I can never finish the fries 🫣.
Back to the waterfalls—there are over a dozen waterfalls in the area surrounding this hotel, including several famous ones. The main reason for choosing this hotel is definitely its location. 👍🏻
As for the waterfall on the cover photo, it glows at night. At first, I thought it was illuminated by lights, but when I visited during the day, I realized there were only ground lights and no other lighting equipment. It’s truly magical 🙀.
Regarding Skogafoss, if you have time, make sure to climb up the mountain. There are six or seven stunning waterfalls up there.

Skógafoss – “Iceland’s Thunderous Curtain of Mist”
#holidayitinerary
📌 Location: Skógar, Iceland
Skógafoss is one of the most powerful waterfalls I’ve ever witnessed—and you can walk right up to it. The roaring water, misty air, and frequent rainbows make this spot completely magical. There’s a staircase leading to a viewpoint at the top, which offers a whole different perspective of the surrounding landscape. I camped nearby and could hear the falls in the distance all night—it was soothing and surreal. If you’re road-tripping Iceland’s Ring Road, this is an essential stop. Bring waterproof gear, a wide-angle lens, and prepare to get sprayed in the best way.

Iceland 🇮🇸, you’re more than a destination—you’re a feeling 💓
Wandering through Iceland’s Golden Circle felt like stepping into a dream we didn’t want to wake from.
I’m lost in reverie—of geysers bursting like fire from the earth, of standing breathless beneath Gullfoss’s misty roar, and of wandering Þingvellir’s quiet paths, where the land softly echoes ancient love stories.
📌Here’s how you can make your way to this mesmerising corner of the world 🌍
✈️ Most Economical Cities to Fly to Reykjavík (KEF - Keflavík International Airport)
🇺🇸 From North America:
1️⃣ New York City (JFK/EWR) - Regular deals and budget carriers like PLAY and Icelandair.
2️⃣ Boston (BOS) - One of the closest U.S. cities to Iceland with frequent low-cost flights.
3️⃣ Toronto (YYZ) - Competitive fares from Canada’s largest airport.
4️⃣ Seattle (SEA) (seasonal) - Icelandair often runs promotions from the Pacific Northwest.
🇪🇺 From Europe:
5️⃣ London (LHR, LGW, STN) - Multiple daily flights; budget airlines like easyJet and Wizz Air.
6️⃣ Berlin (BER) - Affordable fares, especially with budget carriers.
7️⃣ Copenhagen (CPH) - Short flight time and great deals, especially with Icelandair.
8️⃣ Amsterdam (AMS) - A well-connected hub with competitive prices and regular flights.
After arriving in Reykjavík, consider hiring a local guide, particularly during the winter months when snow-covered roads can make navigation challenging ❄️
🧳 What to Pack for Winter in Iceland
Winter in Iceland is magical—but also cold, wet, and windy! To stay warm and comfortable while enjoying those epic landscapes, here’s what we recommend bringing:
👕 Essential Clothing:
🧥Waterproof & windproof outer jacket (a must!)
👚 Insulated layers (like fleece or down jackets) include thermal base layers (top & bottom, wool or synthetic)
👖 Waterproof pants (especially for snow or waterfall hikes)
🧤 Warm hat & gloves (preferably waterproof or wind-resistant)
🧣 Scarf or neck gaiter (the wind can bite!)
🧦 Wool socks (bring extras)
🥾 Sturdy waterproof boots (for icy, snowy terrain)
🎒 Other Must-Haves:
👙 Swimsuit (for hot springs like the Blue Lagoon!)
Microspikes or ice cleats (for walking on icy paths)
😎 Sunglasses (even winter sun can be blinding off the snow)
Power bank (cold drains phone batteries fast)
💨 Moisturizer & lip balm (wind and cold are drying)
Reusable water bottle (Icelandic tap water is pure and delicious)
I hope this guide proves helpful to anyone planning a journey to this breathtaking land of fire 🔥 and ice 🧊

Enjoy the stunning waterfalls of Iceland!
Iceland is known for its stunning waterfalls. A trip to Iceland will not be complete without visiting the following wonderful waterfall sites.
- Skogafoss: Located on the south coast, Skogafoss is one of Iceland's largest and most famous waterfalls. It is easily accessible, with a short walk from the parking area. The waterfall is 60 meters high and 25 meters wide, creating a stunning view.
- Seljalandsfoss: Also on the south coast, Seljalandsfoss is unique because you can walk behind the waterfall. It is close to the parking area, making it convenient for visitors. The waterfall drops 60 meters from the cliffs.
- Gullfoss: Part of the Golden Circle, Gullfoss is one of Iceland's most popular tourist attractions. The waterfall has two stages, with a total height of 32 meters. It is located in the canyon of the Hvítá river.
- Dettifoss: Known as the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss is located in the Vatnajökull National Park in northeast Iceland. It is 45 meters high and 100 meters wide, with a massive flow of water.
- Selfoss: Situated near Dettifoss, Selfoss is a beautiful waterfall with a height of about 11 meters. It is part of the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river.
- Hraunfossar: Located in western Iceland, Hraunfossar is a series of waterfalls streaming over a distance of about 900 meters out of the Hallmundarhraun lava field.
- Kolugljufur: This waterfall is located in northern Iceland and is less than 10 minutes off the ring road. It is known for its impressive gorge and scenic beauty.
Have a memorable trip to Iceland!

Waterfalls, Craters, and The Blue Lagoon: Six Must-See Spots in Iceland 🇮🇸 🌋
Iceland, the fire and ice, is a North Atlantic country like no other. Outside of the small capital of Reykjavik, you’ll find countless waterfalls, geysers, and volcanoes. Here are my recommendations for a 4 day visit to Reykjavik:
1️⃣ Waterfall Hunting
Gullfoss Waterfall and Skógafoss Waterfall are two of the most spectacular waterfalls I’ve ever seen and both are in close proximity to Reykjavik. Gullfoss is the larger of the two and the sheer force of the water here is heart stopping. Another popular waterfall is Seljalandsfoss. Here, you’ll be able to walk behind the cascading water to take some cool photos!
2️⃣ Geyser Geothermal Area
Drive through the dramatic volcanic landscape before reaching the Geyser Geothermal Area. Bring your camera and set up close to Strokkur as this geyser erupts approximately every ten minutes.
3️⃣ Kerið Crater
Walk around a volcanic caldera before walking down to the aquamarine waters of the lake below. The landscape is beautiful as the red rock of the caldera contrast with the lake water and surrounding greenery. It’s a true paradise for nature lovers.
4️⃣ The Blue Lagoon
No trip to Iceland is complete without a couple of hours at The Blue Lagoon. Purchase a package and you’ll get to sample some Icelandic facial scrubs which are full of minerals. The packages also come with a complimentary drink. You’ll leave the lagoon feeling clean and refreshed.
5️⃣ Black Sand Beach
Featuring basalt columns and sea stacks, Iceland’s Black Sand Beach is a nature photography lovers dream. Black sand stretches in all directions as the coast is battered by Atlantic waves. Be careful not to get too close to the water as it’s one of the most dangerous beaches in the world!
6️⃣ Reykjavik
Reykjavik is a city that’s surrounded by breathtaking nature. But don’t skip out on exploring the city itself. Most of the attractions are centered around the small city core. Take in the city view from the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral before walking down the famous rainbow road. Drop into the Hand Knitting Association of Iceland to pick up one of the famous Icelandic Sweaters. If you’re feeling hungry, go to Café Loki and sample some shark!
🏨 Where to Stay: Finding affordable accommodation in Iceland can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. I chose Hotel Cabin because of its proximity to the center and the tasty buffet breakfast.

📍Iceland
Iceland is pure magic—raw nature at its finest. We packed a few unforgettable days with epic sights, from thundering waterfalls to the surreal glow of the Northern Lights. Here’s how we explored some of the island’s best!
⛲ Golden Circle Wonders
We started with the classic Golden Circle: powerful Gullfoss waterfall, the erupting Strokkur geyser, and the rugged beauty of Þingvellir National Park. It’s an easy loop from Reykjavik and perfect for a first taste of Iceland’s wildness.
♨️ Soaking at the Blue Lagoon
After a day on the road, nothing felt better than floating in the steaming Blue Lagoon. Silica masks, milky blue waters, and lava field views—completely otherworldly!
🌊 Chasing Waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss
Heading south, we visited Seljalandsfoss first—where you can walk behind the waterfall (bring a rain jacket!). A short drive later, Skógafoss stunned us with its sheer power and shimmering rainbows.
⛰️ Black Sands of Reynisfjara
Reynisfjara Beach was otherworldly: roaring waves, basalt cliffs, and jet-black sand. It’s beautiful—but the waves are wild, so keep your distance!
✨ Northern Lights Dream
On our last night, luck was on our side—Aurora Borealis danced across the sky in green and purple ribbons. Cold fingers, but memories for life.

Quick Tips:
🚗 Rent a 4x4 if traveling in winter—weather changes fast
🎒 Dress in layers and always have waterproof gear

Stunning road trip in April across the southern regions of Iceland. From Reykjiavik to Hofn and then back. We even managed to spot the Aurora. This is a must do trip for any road trip lovers. Along the road, there are many lookouts and picnic stops to take amazing photos. It's very easy to take beautiful pictures with such amazing scenery. If you're an amateur or semi pro photographer, this is the place for you. We will definitely come back to explore more of this incredible place.

Solheimajokull
I went to Solheimajökull.
It is located along Route 1 in Iceland.
It is about a 3-hour drive from Reykjavik Airport.
There is no entrance fee, but parking is about 1,000 yen per car.
This has become my favorite glacier in Iceland.
After all, it is the closest place to the glacier.
It takes 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the observation deck, and then another 20 minutes to walk to the glacier, where you can walk a little on the glacier.
The experience of walking on a glacier is more fun than I thought, and it is not something I can do very often, so I recommend it.

#monsteronvacay
Coming from a tropical country, embarking on a hike to Solheimajokull Glacier in Iceland was a surreal, once in a lifetime experience. The stark contrast between the warm, humid climate we're used to and the icy, glacial landscape of Iceland was breathtaking from the moment we arrived. Towering, jagged ice formations stretched out before us, a brilliant blue hue shimmering under the crisp, cold air.
The hike itself was thrilling and challenging. Equipped with crampons and guided by an experienced leader, we carefully traverse by the icy surface, learning about the glacier's formation and the effect of climate change on this incredible landscape. The sensation of walking on ice, something so foreign to those from tropical climates, was both exciting and humbling. The pristine beauty of the glacier, set against the backdrop of volcanic ash and rugged terrain, made every step unforgettable.
Reaching a high point on the glacier, the panoramic views were stunning, offering sense of isolation and peace, far removed from the bustling heat at home. The Solheimajokull Glacier hike was not just an adventure but a deeply immersive experience, leaving us in awe of the natural world and the dramatic beauty of Iceland icy wilderness. This is highly recommended for those seeking something truly extraordinary!

Whether you visit during winter when the falls are framed by snow and ice, or in the summer when the greenery flourishes, Skogafoss promises an unforgettable Icelandic experience.

Iceland 🇮🇸 Iceland's most beautiful waterfall Skogafoss Rainbow Falls
💦This is the Skogafoss Rainbow Waterfall in southern Iceland. It is the most beautiful Icelandic waterfall in my mind! Its original name was Skogafoss. According to locals, rainbows appear almost every sunny day, forming a beautiful picture with the surging waterfall. 🌈So it has the romantic and beautiful name of Rainbow Falls, and is even selected as one of the "Top Ten Waterfalls in Iceland"!
This is also the filming location for the movies Dreamers and Game of Thrones. If you are a fan, you must visit here. ✨You can walk along the aisle to the hole behind the waterfall to feel its pressure more intuitively and up close! It’s so beautiful! The sun hits the water vapor splashed by the waterfall, and the whole waterfall is covered by a rainbow in the mist. How can Game of Thrones be so good at taking pictures🌫️

Iceland | Petta Reddast
| Petta Reddast. Iceland | Petta Reddast
The main experience is four words: gale + heavy rain, I understood the Icelandic phrase petta Reddast-'everything will be fine', because the road was blocked by strong wind and I heard that a bus was overturned, I was trapped in front of Seljalandsfoss waterfall and couldn't go to the next accommodation place, I realized that many things here are unpredictable, after waiting for six hours, the road is open!!! Even if all the plans for today are disrupted and the sights I want to go to are not finished, I am still very happy! Looking forward to the next journey, I hope the weather gets better.

🇮🇸The classic attraction in southern Iceland - the rainbow spectacle of Skógafoss waterfall 🚗A must-see on Route 1 around the island
Skógafoss is 15 meters wide and 60 meters high.
Arguably one of the largest waterfalls in Iceland!
In addition to Seljalandsfoss
Another classic southern waterfall
This waterfall is also called Rainbow Falls🌈
If you come when the weather is nice
You will see rainbows across the waterfall.
Maybe we were unlucky this time🤣 We didn’t see the rainbow
But pay close attention
There are actually a few Icelandic lambs next to the waterfall! Super cute
Since the two waterfalls are very close
I suggest you continue to take the Route 1 roundabout after seeing the Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
It takes about 25 minutes to drive to Skogafoss.
If you go around the island clockwise
First arrive at Skogafoss
Then we go to Seljalandsfoss
However, the waterfalls are all next to the No. 1 Ring Road.
So don't worry, they are easy to find!
