During the Xia Dynasty to the Western Zhou period, the Bao State was established here. Later, the Chu State set up Hanzhong Commandery in Ankang along the middle reaches of the Han River. During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, it was part of Nanzheng, alternately controlled by the Ba-Shu region and the Qin State. In the early Western Han Dynasty, Liu Bang was appointed King of Han in Nanzheng and spent five years conquering Chu to unify China, retaining "Han" as the dynastic name. Key attractions include Liping Scenic Area, Zibai Mountain Scenic Area, Hanzhong Museum, Ancient Han Terrace, and Shimen Plank Road Scenic Area. Tianhan Jingyi Hotel is situated by the Han River Wetland Park, offering beautiful surroundings and just a ten-minute drive from the Xi'an-Hanzhong Expressway interchange. As Hanzhong's finest five-star resort hotel, this marks my third visit. The first was years ago during a road trip to Gannan and northern Sichuan when many roads were still challenging, before the Xi'an-Hanzhong Expressway opened—truly experiencing the adage "The road to Shu is harder than climbing to heaven." This 1.5-month southwestern journey began in Xi'an, with dramatically improved transportation and hotels compared to years past—flights and high-speed rails made travel effortless through Chongqing, Kunming, and Tengchong. The latter half was a self-drive tour via Dali, Lijiang, and Shangri-La, returning along the Beijing-Kunming Expressway at a leisurely pace of 200-300km daily through Panzhihua, Xichang, Ya'an, Chengdu, and Qingchuan, ending in Hanzhong. Staying again at the familiar Tianhan Jingyi Hotel—peaceful, with fresh air—I enjoyed easy access to Han River Wetland Park via the back door with my room key. The breakfast buffet was excellent, though I also tried local specialty "Huang Lading" fish outside. After a relaxing day, I drove back to Chang'an across the Qinling Mountains. Hanzhong Museum was built on the former palace of Liu Bang of the Han Dynasty. It's a place where you can feel the grandeur of history. I visited in April, and beautiful flowers were in bloom in the garden on the premises. One of the highlights of this museum is the stone monument carved from the Shimen Plank. I visited to see the writings of Cao Cao of Wei in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Cao Cao was both a warrior and a poet. "Snow" describes how the water splashing against the rocks looked like snow. Many Han Dynasty relics, such as bronze vessels, are also on display. From the Xia to the Western Zhou dynasty, it was part of Liangzhou and Yongzhou respectively. During the Qin dynasty, Hanzhong Commandery was established. Hanzhong Museum was built on the site of the ancient Hantai, mainly relying on the original architectural style and layout. It consists of three progressively elevated courtyards from south to north, composed of the Stone Gate Thirteen Grades exhibition, plank walk display rooms, East and West Hua Ting, the North Gate ancient architectural complex, Wangjiang Tower, Guiyin Hall, courtyard gardens, and more. Hanzhong's urban layout is relatively simple, with the Han River as the boundary. The north bank is Hanzhong city, and across the Han River Bridge is Dahekan, which is under the jurisdiction of Nanzheng District. The traditional city center is the east-west line from Dongda Street to Dongguanzheng Street, where most of the historical sites are located. With the westward migration of the commercial district, the current city center spreads out in all directions along the north-south line of Tianhan Avenue and Beida Street. Although many people come to Hanzhong for leisure and entertainment, there are still some places worth visiting in the city. In the old city area of ​​several kilometers from the ancient Hantai to Dongguan Main Street, you can still see the urban life inherited from the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. In today's ancient town craze, Hanzhong's old streets are enough to refresh people. Ancient Han Terrace is the site of the palace of Han King Liu Bang. After the Song Dynasty, Ancient Han Terrace was once used as the back garden of Hanzhong Prefecture. Now it has been converted into Hanzhong Museum. The ancient Han Terrace is a typical Qin and Han Dynasty palace architectural style. It faces north and south and is divided into three levels. The first part is Wangjiang Tower, which was originally the highest point of Hanzhong City. The second part is a two-story building. After passing Jingwu Pond and Hantai Stele Forest, you will reach the third part of the museum. The west wing is the Shimen Thirteen Products Exhibition Room, and the east wing is the Baoxiang Ancient Plank Road Exhibition Room, both of which are closely related to the Shimen Plank Road. "Shimen Thirteen Pieces" refers to the general term for the thirteen cliff carvings between the Shimen Tunnel of Baoxiade and the north and south cliffs. The Baoxiade Road is the longest and most border-crossing Shu Road that crosses the Qinling Mountains; the Shimen is a tunnel opened during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty (58-75 AD). It is the world's earliest artificial mountain transportation tunnel. Literati and poets of all dynasties have carved 178 kinds of stone carvings in the Shimen Tunnel and the cliffs to its north and south.
