Kolugljúfur is a magnificent canyon located in the northwest of Iceland. It is cut by the Víðidalsá River. It is about 2 kilometers long and 25-30 meters wide. As the name suggests, it should be in the shape of a giant. But because we were "in the mountain", we were unable to climb higher and thus could not see the shape of the giant. Giant Canyon features many waterfalls of varying sizes.

The Vikings used shipbuilding technology to build churches, so some churches are shaped like a Viking ship, with dragon heads at the bow and stern, as well as on the roof, and scale tiles. People believed that dragons could ward off evil forces. The whole church exudes a unique Nordic mysterious atmosphere. In the 15th and 16th centuries, many stave churches underwent some changes, causing them to lose some of their ancient features. 1. Heddal stave church ⛪️The largest in Norway. The church was built in the early 13th century. 2. Roldal stave church ⛪️The stave church is very old and dark, and has stood at the entrance of the village for more than 800 years. 3. Fantoff stave church ⛪️This church was built around 1200. When Norway fell into economic difficulties, the wooden boards of this church were dismantled and used to make more useful things, such as the baptismal font was reused as a trough for farm livestock ⛪️The carvings on the benches depict themes of ancient heroic legends from the 9th century. ⛪️The church was completely destroyed by fire in 1992 and it took 6 years to rebuild. Started off with some shopping in Odda. The town in a narrow valley between mountains and a lake. It is also tourist hub were many people start off their hiking to world famous Trolltunga-Rock. 🍲Siderhuset Ola K - we had lunch here. Not too far of a drive from Odda on the west side of the fjord. There is this beautiful restaurant by the water. It was raining so we opted to sit inside. We had a delicious fish soup. 🏨 Ullensvang hotel - After lunch we took the small ferry boat from Utne to Kinsarvik. We stayed one night at the hotel here. Beautiful experience by the fjord. 🥂 Cider tasting at Opedalstunet - super nice experience with the apple farmer and his son giving us the tour of the farm where we ended up tasting some of their own produced cider from Hardanger. Låtefossen - we stoped by one of the spectacular waterfalls on the way back home again. April is a good time to catch the apple farms in bloom. 📍 Norway's Trolltunga Trolltunga is one of the three most famous rock formations in southern Norway. This rock juts out horizontally from the cliff, suspended almost a thousand meters above the ground, hence the name "Troll's Tongue." 🚶The round trip is about 23-28 km, and the elevation gain isn't too significant, making it perfect for beginners⛰️. Since I was starting from Oslo University and this was my first real hike and camping trip, I opted for a guided tour. Looking back, I think it was absolutely the right decision. I'm so grateful to Norway for giving me such a perfect first overnight hiking experience; just thinking about it makes me want to cry! I booked a tour with Trolltunga Adventures. There were about ten of us, with two guides, one in front and one at the back. They kept giving us snacks along the way, and at the photo spots, they took turns letting everyone go out onto the rock for pictures. It looks terrifying from the side, but when you're actually on it, you don't feel the height at all. It's very safe!! After dinner at the campsite, our guides took us on an extra little hike. When we got back, we roasted marshmallows around a campfire and chatted as the sun set. 😋 The next morning, the guides woke us up with oatmeal and hot cocoa. When I unzipped the tent and saw the fjord, I honestly thought I was still dreaming. It was absolutely breathtaking👐! Our group included people from Amsterdam, Greece, Germany, France, Boston, and Bermuda. I chatted with different people throughout the hike and around the campfire. It was amazing to hear about their diverse and free lives. I felt a bit dazed on the way down, like some feelings can only be experienced in the mountains. But I felt grateful, like I had made some new connections with the world.🌷 👣 Since the hike to Trolltunga must start from the small town of Odda, which is near Bergen, and I didn't rent a car, I made my own way back and forth from Oslo by plane and bus.

#2024Travel Review Trolltunga Trolltunga, also known as the "Devil's Tongue", is located in the canyon of Odda, Norway (1,100 meters above sea level). It is a magical horizontal rock extending from the mountains. The Devil's Tongue is only tiring because of the long distance. In fact, it is not difficult to walk. Based on my personal physical strength, we walked for 8 hours. This was the longest hike during this trip to Norway. If you are worried about the long journey and not being able to get down the mountain before dark, you can take the shuttle bus as early as possible like us (6:30 at the earliest). We took the shuttle bus from P2 (the second parking lot) to P3 (the third parking lot) at 7:00, and walked around and took photos easily at 7:30 in the morning. It’s really worthwhile to spend a small amount of money to reduce 8 kilometers of uphill section! (During the peak tourist season, be sure to check the timetable on the website and make reservations in advance) Also, you need to check the sunset time. After all, there are still 20 kilometers left to climb. The more prepared you are, the safer you will be. The road signs along the way are clear.
