The Great Buddha of Kamakura
⛩️⛰️🍁 is the second largest bronze Buddha statue in Japan and has been a sacred object of Kamakura for hundreds of years. It is large with a total height of 13.4 meters and a weight of 121 tons.
🙏⛩️🎏 The Great Buddha of Kamakura was built in 1252 and was originally enshrined in the main hall of Kotokuin Temple. However, the temple was continuously damaged by typhoons and tsunamis during the 14th and 15th centuries. However, the Great Buddha of Kamakura miraculously survived the disasters. Since the 15th century, the Great Buddha has been enshrined outdoors.

Title: Soulful Day Trip to Kamakura, Japan
📍 Kamakura, Japan
Last-minute decisions often lead to the most unforgettable journeys.
A spontaneous ticket booked, a quick train ride from Tokyo, and suddenly—I found myself standing before the Great Buddha of Kamakura, feeling small yet whole. The sea breeze at Yuigahama brushed my face gently, whispering stories from centuries ago.
Wandering through Komachi Street, I got lost in flavors—matcha mochi, sweet potatoes on sticks, and the warm smile of shopkeepers. Every turn brought peace: from serene temples to the rhythmic crash of waves by Kamakura High School—the same place from the Slam Dunk anime. It felt surreal.
Kamakura isn’t just a place. It’s a moment of calm.
A reminder to breathe.
A gentle tug back to the present.#travel #kamakura #anime #japan

Pleasure of Kamakura
Kamakura, a charming coastal city just an hour south of Tokyo, offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Known for its rich history, stunning temples, and beautiful beaches, Kamakura blends cultural heritage with natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination in Japan.
Our trip began with a relaxing train ride on the JR Yokosuka Line from Tokyo Station to Kamakura Station. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the calm atmosphere and scenic streets lined with quaint shops and traditional houses. Our first stop was the iconic Great Buddha (Kōtoku-in), a magnificent 13.35-meter bronze statue that has stood since the 13th century. Surrounded by trees and mountains, the peaceful expression of the Buddha was truly humbling.
Next, we visited Hasedera Temple, famous for its statue of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, and its breathtaking views of the Sagami Bay. The temple grounds were lush with hydrangeas and offered a serene environment to reflect and relax.
For lunch, we walked down Komachi Street, a lively shopping street filled with local snacks, traditional sweets, and souvenir shops. We tried the popular shirasu-don (whitebait rice bowl), a local delicacy from the nearby ocean.
In the afternoon, we explored Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, the spiritual heart of Kamakura. The long approach, lined with torii gates and cherry trees, led to the impressive shrine dedicated to the god of war and protector of the samurai.
We ended the day at Yuigahama Beach, watching the sunset over the ocean as surfers rode the gentle waves. The golden light reflecting on the water created a perfect ending to our trip.
Kamakura offers a unique blend of spirituality, history, and coastal charm. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or a nature lover, a trip to Kamakura is sure to leave a lasting impression.#familytrip

Kamamura
Kamakura (鎌倉) is a coastal town in Kanagawa Prefecture, less than an hour south of Tokyo. The town became Japan's political center, when Minamoto Yoritomo chose it as the seat for his new military government in the late 12th century. The Kamakura government continued to rule Japan for over a century, first under the Minamoto shogun and then under the Hojo regents.
After the decline of the Kamakura government in the 14th century and the establishment of its successor, the Muromachi government in Kyoto, Kamakura remained the political center of eastern Japan for some time before losing its position to other cities.
Today, Kamakura is a small city and a very popular tourist destination. Sometimes called the Kyoto of eastern Japan, Kamakura offers numerous temples, shrines and other historical monuments. In addition, Kamakura's sand beaches attract large crowds during the summer.#kamakurabuddha #Kamamura2025

Kamamura, a nice little town
This time in Japan, I promised myself that Tokyo would be my last. So I looked for places to visit around Tokyo and this city is the answer. There are beautiful places, the Big Buddha, and very fun walking streets. I stopped at every shop. The desserts were delicious and the prices were not expensive. I really like it ❤️❤️

A Day in Kamakura – Culture, Nature & Coastal Charm
Kamakura offered the perfect escape from the city—rich with tradition, peaceful temples, and refreshing seaside air. We began our journey at the iconic Daibutsu (Great Buddha), an enormous bronze statue that’s both powerful and calming to see in person. The surrounding temple grounds were serene and deeply atmospheric.
Next, we visited Hōkokuji Temple, also known as the “Bamboo Temple.” The bamboo forest there was absolutely mesmerizing—tall, silent, and gently swaying in the breeze. It felt like walking through a living painting.
Later, we headed toward the Kamakura coastline, where the summer sun lit up the sea. The view was stunning, with waves glistening and surfers dotting the shore. It was the kind of scene that makes you want to stay a little longer.
Before leaving, we stopped for a bowl of Shirasu-don, Kamakura’s famous rice bowl topped with fresh whitebait. Light, savory, and very local—it was the perfect way to end the day.
Kamakura truly blends spiritual heritage with coastal beauty. Highly recommended for a relaxed cultural getaway.

[Kanagawa] Kamakura, a historic town where you can enjoy the whole day
#Spring0yenTrip
Kamakura is a charming town where history and nature coexist in harmony, and has a tranquil atmosphere unique to an ancient capital. The first place we visited was Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. It is a shrine where you can feel the history of the Kamakura period, and the spacious grounds and large torii gates were impressive. Genji Pond and the surrounding nature, which can be seen from the grounds, are also beautiful, and it is a place where you can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons. The Great Buddha is also a must-see, and the magnificent height of the Great Buddha statue is overwhelming in its presence, but at the same time, it makes you feel calm. Many temples and historical buildings, such as the old townscape, Hasedera Temple, and Kenchoji Temple, are scattered throughout the city of Kamakura, and you can feel the depth of history just by walking around. Since it is close to the sea, we also visited Yuigahama and Enoshima, and enjoyed the sea views. Kamakura was a relaxing town where historical sites and natural beauty came together.

Ask for it and you can use the amulet's blessing immediately 🤣
The story is that I came to visit this place for the first time with my girlfriend, so I had the opportunity to pray in front of the big Buddha statue.
Before entering, you have to pay an entrance fee and wash your hands to cleanse yourself of bad things or the belief that it will make your body and mind pure.
(But washing your hands in the winter in January, my hands were almost numb in the 2-5 degree weather in the morning 🤣)
I prayed for good luck and fortune and bought a lucky cat bell as a souvenir. My girlfriend asked for work.
On that day, in the afternoon, I stopped by a department store to buy something. Then I couldn't find the 3-day JR wide pass, or I lost it! I was very anxious at that time. So I prayed for luck to find it (which is quite expensive if you buy a new one). And I got it back because someone found it and left it with the staff at the store where I shopped. 🙏🏻 (Partly because of the cuteness of Japanese people.)
And in the evening, my girlfriend had a new job interview, which she really got from many other applicants.
And there were many lucky things that happened during this trip.
I have to go again! 🙏🏻🙌🏻🤲🏻 🇯🇵

Giant buddha at Kamakura!!
The highlight of my day trip to Kamakura was seeing The Great Buddha of Kamakura (鎌倉大仏, Kamakura Daibutsu). This gold-plated bronze statue was constructed in 1252. However, most of the gold has been worn away due to normal wear and tear. To be honest, I expected it to be a little bigger in person, but it still looks nice. The Kotokuin Temple is where this was kept. I also expected the temple to be rather large, but this was right inside the temple grounds when I entered.
