A Step Back in Time at Leicester Guildhall
Location: Guildhall Lane, Leicester LE1 5FQ, United Kingdom
While walking around the city centre, I came across Leicester Guildhall, just behind the cathedral. I wasn’t expecting much, but as soon as I stepped inside, I was impressed by how well-preserved it was. The wooden beams, stone floors, and old furniture made it feel like time had paused.
The main hall was especially striking—quiet and atmospheric, with high ceilings and a real sense of history. I learned that the building is from the 14th century and had been used for everything from council meetings to courtroom sessions.
There were small exhibitions, a few interactive displays, and even some old jail cells to peek into. I didn’t spend a long time there, maybe 30–40 minutes, but it was such a peaceful and interesting stop. And the best part—it’s free to enter.
Definitely a nice hidden gem in Leicester, especially if you like places with real character.
