I went to Singapore for the Lunar New Year. Based on my budget, uncompromising need for spacious rooms, and the convenience of traveling with kids, I ultimately chose Andaz for a 3-night stay. ⭕️⭕️ Sharing some pros, cons, and tips for your reference. ❤️❤️Pros 1️⃣Convenient transportation: Located directly above Bugis MRT Station - an interchange for the East West Line and Downtown Line. Take the elevator to B3, there's a small door that leads directly to the subway passage. It's only a few stops away from Merlion Park and Little India. 2️⃣Spacious rooms: I booked a "Large King Room with View" - 38 sq m. I was upgraded to a corner room (not a traditional corner, but an angled one). Not sure if I scored a deal or not. 3️⃣Great breakfast: Wide variety, plenty of fruit, and delicious local snacks. 4️⃣Instagrammable infinity pool: Offers views of the Strait of Malacca, the Singapore Flyer, and Marina Bay Sands in the distance. 5️⃣Eco-friendly: No bottled water or disposable slippers provided. They offer two reusable square water bottles and two pairs of flip-flops. There's a drinking water tap next to the sink. 6️⃣Free minibar. ‼️‼️Cons 1️⃣Crowded: Long queues for check-in, check-out, and breakfast. 2️⃣Lack of service: No turndown service or any special touches. Overall, it's just average. Everything you expect is there, but don't expect any surprises. It feels like renting an apartment. Not bad, but not particularly good either. 3️⃣Typical high-rise hotel issue: You need to transfer elevators on the 25th floor to reach your room, which is a bit of a hassle. ‼️‼️Tips 1️⃣If you have high expectations for hotel quality - location, facilities, design, pool, and dining - but your budget doesn't allow for Mandarin Oriental, Ritz-Carlton, or even Capella, Andaz is a cost-effective choice. 2️⃣There's a 7-Eleven and some restaurants in the subway passage below the hotel, which is convenient for dining and shopping. 3️⃣Not smoker-friendly. The designated smoking area is on the street level, which is quite inconvenient. ‼️‼️Conclusion 1️⃣Overall, it felt like staying in a slightly more upscale version of Atour or JI Hotel. 2️⃣No surprises, let alone any toys or snacks for kids. 3️⃣Like hotels in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai that cater to elderly tour groups, I saw many elderly Caucasian tourists during breakfast, check-in, and check-out.

This time I spent all my time in Kampong glam, Little india and Chinatown. Kampong Glam is a muslim quarter of Singapore where you can capture mesmerising Masjid Sultan (Sultan Mosque). This is the best place to grab middle eastern and arab food. Little India as the name suggests is an Indian neighbourhood, but this is not the place where Indians used to live in their first years in modern Singapore territory. They then expanded to Little India. Nowadays they comprise around 10% of Singapore population. Chinatown in Singapore is a home to Chinatown Complex which is a hawker center even with a Michelin guide stall - Ann Chin Popiah (stall #02-112). Buddha Tooth Relic temple is also located in Chinatown. Here you can find best of shopping and street food. I stayed at Ibis Budget Hotel Ruby which is about 30 mins ride by bus from the downtown. The neighbourhood somehow reminded me of Red Light District. But it seems to be safe and peaceful. Make sure you do not miss Jewel at Changi airport which is located in Terminal 1 and you do not need to go through the immigration to see it. At nights they have light-shows.

#singapore The first tourist attraction we came across in small India was the former home of Tan Teng Niah – a Chinese man. It should not be surprising that Singapore is multicultural with Chinese, Indians and Malays making up the majority of the population. Similarly in Chinatown, the mosque and Indian temple are among the attractions there. While touring small India, we noticed a queue and it had already passed 9am. We didn’t know what to expect except to assume that food should be good for people in line at the time. We joined the waiting list and when we got to the front of the line, we took a look at the menu and decided on the dishes. Omg they were the best we ever got We both had Masala and Mysore Masala with tea and Masala tea which costs us only S$14.60. We continued to wander the small India passing through the Sri Fieramakalyaman temple that we didn’t go to while we were wearing shorts. He wanted to go to Abdul Ghafoor Mosque but could not find the entrance. While walking around, we came across a dining hall, the Eat Box which was deserted at lunchtime and seemed out of place in small India. We went back to little India again at night and again it was very empty. However, at night the atmosphere in Little India was quite different – it really felt as if I was in India with crowds of mainly Indian men. I was surprised to see security around but I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. For dinner, we went to Apollo, a restaurant for banana leaves. The food was delicious but on the fating side. When you visit Singapore, be sure to immerse yourself in different cultures by visiting Little India, Chinatown and Kampong Glam.
