Hidden Gem Near Nanjing Presidential Palace: Meiyuan New Village Holds Grand History
There are always places that remain low-key in daily life, rarely making headlines, but when you approach and listen to them, you discover their stories are so rich and magnificent.
Nanjing's Meiyuan New Village, a quiet spot on Changjiang Road, is nestled among towering plane trees, exuding a touching serenity. Though located close to the Presidential Palace, it is far less bustling—a good thing, allowing visitors to stroll leisurely, quietly reflecting on history and life.

From May 1946 to March 1947, the Chinese Communist Party delegation, led by Zhou Enlai, engaged in negotiations with the Nationalist government here for 10 months and 4 days. During this period, Zhou Enlai and others resided in Meiyuan New Village.
The Meiyuan New Village Memorial Hall of the CCP Delegation is situated along both sides of Meiyuan New Village Street at the eastern end of Changjiang Road in Nanjing. The memorial complex includes the former site of the CCP Delegation Office, the Exhibition Hall of Historical Materials on the KMT-CCP Nanjing Negotiations, a bronze statue of Zhou Enlai, and the Zhou Enlai Library, all classified as modern historical relics and revolutionary memorial buildings.
Houses No. 17, 30, and 35 in Meiyuan New Village served as the offices for the CCP delegation during the peace negotiations with the Nationalist government. No. 30 and 35 were the residences of key delegation leaders, including Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, Li Weihan, Liao Chengzhi, Deng Yingchao, and Qian Ying, head of the Nanjing Bureau's Organization Department. No. 17 housed the delegation's administrative offices.
