The New Akan Hotel's buffet dinner is super rich, and there is also an all-you-can-eat crab
Looking back, I was really lucky to be staying at the New Akan Hotel that day. After eating the hotel’s buffet in the evening, I took a walk outside the hotel and found that there was an event going on. That day, everyone was provided with free sweet sake and miso soup. In the cold weather, a glass of wine warmed us up.
It turns out that Lake Akan holds an ice carnival on the frozen surface of Lake Akan from early February to early March every year. It starts with the Ainu performing traditional music, dance and blessing ceremonies, which gave me the opportunity to learn about the indigenous culture of Hokkaido.
Then the ice fireworks began. I guess it was because the lake was uncovered and the air was clear, the fireworks were so beautiful. It was really touching to see them blooming right before my eyes.
After the carnival, we returned to the New Akan Hotel and went to the public bath, only to find that the rooftop hot spring bath was a mixed bath. Girls could wear the hotel's special bathing robes, while men could wear swimming trunks. The highlight was that this large open-air bath had a view of Lake Akan. Recalling that the ice fireworks that had just been launched should also be clearly visible from here, especially under the starry sky, it was super romantic.
The breakfast at the New Akan Hotel is also very good, but it is recommended to come early so that you can choose a better seat, because outside the floor-to-ceiling windows there is a beautiful view of the entire frozen Lake Akan. It is really a blessing to eat a delicious breakfast while enjoying the beautiful scenery.
