New Bahru - creative cluster with many cafes
A creative cluster for Singapore at the old Nan Chiau High School. A cluster that holds many cafes, restaurants and home grown brands. There is a playground near the carpark and many cafes are pet-friendly.
Dropped by Dearborn Cafe at New Bahru. Famed for its granola, cafe is quite crowded in the afternoon.

The Seongsu-dong vibe in Singapore, New Bahru
🎒The Seongsu-dong vibe in Singapore, New Bahru
“A place like this in the heart of Singapore? New Bahru is a space that feels like Seongsu-dong in Seoul. It’s filled with local brands, cafes, workshops, and even playgrounds inside an old school building! It truly deserves to be called the Singaporean version of Seongsu-dong.”
🏫 An old school turned into a trendy space
New Bahru was originally **Nan Chiau High School**, established in the 1960s. Now, it has been transformed into a creative space featuring stylish local brands while preserving the old classrooms, auditorium, and hallways. The retro exterior combined with modern aesthetics exudes a strong Seongsu-dong vibe!
🥐 Local eateries & aesthetic cafes galore
This place gathers Singapore’s hottest local brands all in one spot. For example:
🥘 Artichoke – Middle Eastern-style brunch spot
🍛 Kotuwa – Sri Lankan fusion dining
☕️ Dearborn – Handmade granola & cafe
🧁 The Coconut Club – Coconut dessert specialty shop
Every corner boasts aesthetic interiors that make you want to snap photos, reminiscent of Seongsu-dong’s bakery cafe alleys!
👒 A space for shopping, experiences, and play
It’s not just about cafes; there are also spaces for activities like handmade candle-making and natural soap workshops. Fashion and home-living shops mostly feature Singaporean local brands, making it fun to explore. There’s even a play area with trampolines for kids, making it a great spot for family visits!
🐾 A pet-friendly healing space
The outdoor terrace and walking areas are pet-friendly, making it a recommended spot for those looking for places to visit with their furry friends. They even sell dog-friendly ice cream and snacks 🐶

MUST VISIT- THE LATEST COOLEST PLACE IN SINGAPORE 🇸🇬
Love how @loandbehold___ transformed this old school building into a design-focused F&B, shopping, and art space. It’s very much like PMQ in Hong Kong but more modern!
I had a few spots in mind to try, and I managed to visit @dearborn.newbahru and @atipicosingapore (I want to try for years but their first shop is in Sunset Way). I preferred the latter— the space was much comfier, and their cakes were absolutely delicious. Don’t miss out on the St. Honore!
However, I didn’t quite understand the high prices, small portions, and limited dining time (only 1 hour) at Dear Born. We felt like we were being watched; the moment we put down our fork and knife, our plates were whisked away. It was pretty stressful.
I hope to visit New Bahru again to try Odem, a modern Korean cuisine spot 😋
