Songkran has been on my bucket list for the longest time and I finally went for it last year at the start of my solo travels. Here are some tips and cautions for Songkran: 1. To be at the heart of all the action, stay at Khao San road— it’s very difficult to enter Khao San during songkran so it makes a lot of sense to stay there. You’ll also be very thankful for it when you need to take a shower after being out in the splash zones 2. It is extremely difficult to get out of Khao San once you’re in it — Khao San gets super crowded and you wi find one-way streets on many streets 3. Water guns are available everywhere— you don’t have to buy one beforehand, but be prepared to pay slightly more for it if you’re buying it from the street stores 4.
