Uncovering Penang's Iconic Street Art: A Colorful Adventure Through Hidden Gems
#penangtrip #penang #streetart #100waysoftravel
One of our favorite things to do in Penang is to hunt for the famous street art, such as the iconic "Children on a Bicycle" on Armenian Street, "Boy on a Motorcycle" on Ah Quee Street, "Little Boy with Pet Dinosaur" on Ah Quee Street, and "Little Girl in Blue" on Muntri Street. These spots can get very crowded, so we ventured out during a hot afternoon, armed with thick sunblock and sunglasses 🕶️ to beat the heat while enjoying the vibrant and creative artwork scattered throughout the city.

Incredible Art of Penang 🇲🇾 Malaysia
Visiting Penang has been a long-time dream of mine, and I’m thrilled to have finally crossed it off my list during this road trip to Thailand. The island’s vibrant culture and heritage are absolutely captivating, made even more special by its stunning street art. I did my best to track down all the famous murals—here’s a look at the ones I discovered! Which one do you recognise? 🤗

Painted Walls & Perfect Plates: A Day in Georgetown, Penang’s UNESCO Gem
We kicked off our Georgetown adventure by hunting down its world-famous street art. Many of the murals here were created by Ernest Zacharevic, the same artist behind Ipoh’s iconic murals. The most photographed one—Boy on a Bicycle—was just the beginning. We also spotted fun pieces like the Dinosaur and several hidden treasures tucked along narrow alleyways. Every corner felt like an open-air gallery.
Of course, being in Penang—known as a food paradise—we couldn’t miss out on the legendary local dishes. We tried the irresistible Char Kuey Teow, slurped down a bowl of authentic Penang Laksa, and cooled off with a colorful serving of Ice Kacang. We visited several stalls and restaurants, and every bite was a reminder that this city really does live up to its foodie fame.

Street Art Tour around George Town, Malaysia 🇲🇾
Taking a street art tour in Penang was a fantastic way to explore the city’s creative side. George Town's streets are filled with vibrant murals, many of which tell stories of the local culture and history. I loved stumbling upon these hidden gems, especially the famous "Kids on Bicycle" mural. Each artwork seemed to blend seamlessly with the urban landscape, making the walk feel like a living gallery. If you're into photography or just love art, this is a must-do experience in Penang.
