A Transylvanian treasure where the rooftops have eyes and every street feels like a secret.
Sibiu is the kind of place that lives between fairy tales and reality. Cobblestone lanes curl around pastel buildings, their quirky rooftops peering down with sly “eyes”—like the city itself is alive and watching, playfully whimsical.
I crossed the famous Bridge of Lies, lingered in Piata Mare, and climbed the Council Tower for a view that stitched together spires, squares, and time itself.
Tip: Warm up with ciorbă de burtă (tripe soup) or enjoy a rustic dessert like papanasi—delicious Romanian donuts with cheese and jam.
Must-snaps:
• Rooftops with “eyes” in the Upper Town
• Golden hour from the Council Tower
• Lantern-lit streets in the Lower Town
Sibiu doesn’t just invite you—it enchants you, quietly and completely.

Is Transylvania real?
People might have heard about this place in horror stories or movies, like in the series ‘Wednesday’. They might think of it as an abstract place.
However, it is real. Transylvania is located in the center of 🇷🇴 Romania, and here’s a short recommendation from the places I visited.
👇
- Bran Castle
- Sibiu city (the bridge in this picture is a famous beautiful bridge in Sibiu. Here you can find many museums and German churches too 😮)
- Brasov (A big city with a beautiful mountain view! You can find all kinds of restaurants and shops, and the huge beautiful black church)
- Rasnov citadel (Breathtaking, what else can I say! But be careful they say sometimes you might meet a bear!)
EXTRA:
Although I haven’t been there yet, you could also visit the Peles castel, or babele and the sphinx, which are nearby:)))

The mysterious town of Sibiu, Romania
🌟 🌟
🇷🇴 About Sibiu:
Located in southern Transylvania, Romania, Sibiu is a historic and fairytale-like ancient city. Founded in the 13th century, this pedestrian-friendly city is divided into the Upper Town and Lower Town, connected by the legendary "Bridge of Lies." The architecture here is a blend of Baroque and Renaissance styles, especially the houses decorated with "eyes," which are unforgettable.
🏰 Sibiu Great Square:
Located in the heart of the city, Sibiu Great Square was documented as early as the 15th century. The towering clock tower and colorful houses on the square form a beautiful picture.
🎨 Brukenthal Museum:
The Baroque-style building on the west side, the Brukenthal Museum, was built in the 18th century and is one of the oldest museums in Romania. The museum houses not only a European art gallery but also a Romanian art gallery and a library.
🌆 Council Tower:
Built in the 13th century, the Council Tower is the tallest building in the old town, with seven floors. The tower with pale yellow exterior walls and a blue clock under the spire was once a defensive fortress of the city.
🌉 Bridge of Lies:
This bridge connects the Upper and Lower Towns of Sibiu. According to legend, if someone lies on the bridge, it will collapse. Therefore, many couples come here to make vows of love.
🏰 Orthodox Cathedral:
This church is reminiscent of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Türkiye. Although smaller in scale, the interior is luxuriously decorated, and the Neo-Byzantine style and exquisite murals are impressive.
🏰 Lutheran Cathedral of Saint Mary:
Built in the 14th century, this church was originally a Romanesque building. The five spires tower into the clouds, and you can climb to the top via a spiral wooden staircase for a panoramic view of Sibiu.

Don’t take detours to find treasure spots in Sibiu, the city of a thousand eyes
As soon as I arrived in Sibiu, I saw two "eyes" on the roof of every house. I suddenly felt that this ancient Transylvanian city was a bit cute, and decided to spend a day to see this small city.
🏞Route: Main Square ~ Parliament Tower ~ Bridge of Lies ~ Lutheran Cathedral of Our Lady ~ Orthodox Cathedral
1⃣Piata Mare
Sibiu is the capital of medieval porcelain. On the first day I arrived at the main square, I ran into a weekend market. Various small stalls sold various ceramic handicrafts. Street performers were playing happily, and the square was surrounded by a circle. The eyes are surrounded by houses.
In addition to the weekend market, the Grand Square is also a gathering place for attractions and restaurants.

🕰Opening hours: 24 hours
🚖Transportation: In the center of the old city, within walking distance
2⃣The Council Tower
Climb up to the Parliament Tower on the side of the main square and overlook the old city. On weekends, you can also watch the unique fireworks of Transylvania in the market from a height.
There is a lot of historical information on the tower.
👉The best time to take pictures on the tower is near dusk when the sun sets. Watching the city shrouded in golden light is not too beautiful!

2⃣Bridge of Lies
This ancient iron bridge is said to be able to detect panic, and if someone lies on it, the bridge will collapse. Therefore, couples come here to fix their love.

3⃣Our Lady Lutheran Cathedral
(Lutheran Evangelical Cathedra)
Walking to the other side of the main square, you can see the Lutheran Cathedral of Our Lady, which was built for more than 200 years. The highlight of this Gothic church is the organ inside and the underground noble crypts.
👉But the door is often closed, so it depends on your luck whether you can get in.

I can feel your gaze! Sibiu🇷🇴
Even though there should be no one there, I feel someone looking at me.
Sibiu, Romania is such a mysterious city.
There are eyes on the roof! 👁️👁️
This is an air vent window in the attic, but you can see it clearly!
It's a little scary because eyes meet everywhere you look lol
It's a beautiful city that still retains traces of the Middle Ages, but it's not only beautiful, it's also very unique✨
The bridge that spans the city is called the "Liar's Bridge" and there is a legend that if you lie on it, the bridge will collapse🫨
There are few tourist attractions, but it's fun just to walk around the city, so if you have time, please go there!
I also went to Bucharest in Romania, but I liked Sibiu better♡
