Augustusburg Castle is located in front of the station called Pruell, about 15 minutes by train from Cologne. It is not very well known in Japan, but as you can see in the photo, it is a very beautiful and cute castle that is in a very good state of preservation. You can tour the castle with a German or English guide. (It costs about 10 euros.) There were many people taking wedding photos outside. I visited on a Sunday afternoon at the end of August 2022, and it didn't seem to be very crowded, so it might be a hidden gem. I took the train from Cologne to Brühl 🚃 It's a small station, but the World Heritage Site Augustusburg Castle is right there, so access is excellent! You have to join a tour to go inside, but you can go directly without making a reservation and see the gardens if you have time before the tour. The audio included in the ticket price is available in Japanese. The tour is about an hour, so if you have time, you can buy a combination ticket and go to Falkenlust, or just stroll around the vast gardens.
