[Seoul, Korea] Theater of Light: A complex cultural and artistic space that stimulates the five senses
#0yentravelnovember
In Korea, the theater space is interesting because it combines sound with project mapping that draws the space into the world of the artist's work. The Theater of Light in Seoul, which opened in 2022, goes beyond the concept of a museum being a place to view exhibitions and is a complex cultural and artistic space that stimulates the five senses.
When I visited, there was a video show with Klimt's paintings as the motif. In addition to the world of Klimt's paintings, the show also included the cityscape of Vienna and the world of Egon Schiele, and lasted for 30 minutes. Other advertisements for video creators were also shown repeatedly.
I may have watched it three times. Each time I watched it, I changed my position, so the images that jumped into my eyes were different, and the way the images spread changed, so I was able to enjoy the sparkling golden world.
The swirling spiral is a typical motif of Klimt, the branch of the Tree of Life, "Stocleslis". The real thing I saw at the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts was also painted on a large canvas. Klimt may have had an image of something spreading out full of vitality like this.
Klimt's world jumped out of the painting and I enjoyed it as a space. It matched well with classical music, and even if the viewers were watching the images, they were perceived as part of the space, so it didn't bother me.
The main artist's world changes depending on the season, so I would like to go again when there are different people.
Klimt was highly recommended.
