- Wat Ratchathiwat was originally called “Wat Samorai”. It is an ancient temple. There is no evidence of when it was built, but it is assumed that it was built during the Ayutthaya period. During the Rattanakosin period, Wat Ratchathiwat was a temple where many royals stayed while they were ordained, such as King Phutthaloetla Naphalai.
- During the reign of King Chulalongkorn, he graciously ordered the entire temple to be demolished and rebuilt, which was a major repair and renovation. What remains are the ordination hall, the pagoda, the sala, the red-painted wooden huts, the prayer hall, the stone road, the stone courtyard, the reclaimed mountain, the stone pillars, the moat, the road through the middle of the temple, and the bridge. In addition, he cast a Buddha statue in the ordination hall.

The back room has the principal Buddha image called Phra Samputthawattanophas, which is an ancient stucco Buddha image.
