During the time waiting for the sentence, Somdet Phra Phan Rattana, the Supreme Patriarch, asked Phra Naresuan to pardon the soldiers, giving the reason that he was like the Buddha who was surrounded by Mara before he became enlightened. It was a declaration of his honor and bravery and skill to spread throughout the country. Somdet Phra Naresuan therefore ordered the construction of a large pagoda to be a symbol of his victory and kindness towards those soldiers, and gave it the name "Chedi Chai Mongkhon". At present, the pagoda is open for visitors to go up to see the hole in the middle of the pagoda, which is about 50 meters deep from the ground below the base of the pagoda.
