[2025 Chongqing Attraction] Travel Guide for Wulong Karst Tourism Region (Updated Jun)

The drive from Chongqing city to Wulong takes more than 3 hours. If you don't want to rush a one-day trip, taking the first/last train for a special forces-like itinerary can be a bit tiring. I took the high-speed train to Wulong Station, then took the scenic area shuttle bus (¥10) to the scenic area. I stayed overnight in Wulong (there are many accommodations around ¥100 and specialty restaurants in front of the scenic area, very convenient), spending more time to leisurely explore the next day. Several karst landscape scenic areas in Wulong are listed as World Heritage sites. The Three Natural Bridges scenic area became more famous due to the filming of 'Curse of the Golden Flower' and 'Transformers 4'. The Three Natural Bridges + Longshuixia Fissure (ticket includes transfer bus and elevator ¥210) involve walking through canyons to admire the karst landscape. The Three Natural Bridges is a canyon with two tiankengs and three bridges. Hiking about 4 kilometers in the canyon surrounded by towering cliffs forming tiankengs and three natural stone bridge caves is surprisingly flat and easy to walk. However, Longshuixia Fissure involves walking up and down a narrow creek valley. Although it's only a 2-kilometer journey, the rainy and slippery stone steps require careful walking. The scenic area opens at 8:30 AM, and it takes about 5 hours to leisurely walk through both scenic areas. Then take the scenic area shuttle bus (¥10) to Wulong Station, and take the high-speed train back to Chongqing city.

There are many breathtaking attractions in mainland China, and Wulong Tiankeng is definitely one of the most impressive. Besides being a filming location for the movie Transformers, it is also where The City of Golden Armor was shot 🎬. You can easily join a one-day or two-day tour from Chongqing, making it very convenient 👍. From the entrance, you can follow the steps down and soon reach the only man-made structure in the scenic area, the Tianfu Post Station. Sharp-eyed movie fans might find it familiar, and yes, you guessed it right, it's the one! Beyond the post station, the scenery becomes even more enchanting, with numerous waterfalls, small bridges, and rivers along the way. The fresh air filled with phytoncides is truly refreshing ❤️. I highly recommend spending a day visiting Wulong Tiankeng when you are in Chongqing to appreciate the wonders of nature. It is definitely worth the ticket price 👍.

Many friends travel back and forth on weekends, how much time is needed? Is one day enough for a round trip? This guide calculates it in detail. Chongqing ↔ Wulong Fairy Mountain Visitor Center 🚍 Bus: The direct tourist bus from Jiefangbei to the visitor center, about 70 yuan one way, departs at 7:30 and arrives at the visitor center around 10:30, and returns at 17:30. 🔹 There are also direct tourist buses at stations such as the Four Kilometers Tourist Distribution Center, or you can take a passenger bus to Wulong District and transfer by yourself. Ordinary passenger buses are cheaper but require a transfer in Wulong District. 🚆 Train: From Chongqing North Station to Wulong Station, about 2 hours, 22 yuan, seamless transfer to the visitor center bus after exiting Wulong Station, 30 minutes, 10 yuan. 🛩️ Plane: Chongqing Airport to Fairy Mountain Airport, 1 hour, go in the afternoon, return at midnight, the timing is not very good, and you still need to transfer from the airport to the visitor center. ✅ Tiankeng + Difeng one-day round trip ​10:30 Arrive at the visitor center, have lunch. 11:30 Take the shuttle bus to Tiankeng, tour duration 1.5-2h. 13:30 Exit Tiankeng and take the shuttle bus to Difeng, enter Difeng at 14:00, tour duration 1-1.5h, exit the scenic area at 15:30. 16:00 Take the shuttle bus back to the visitor center, have another meal, and easily catch the 17:30 return bus. If you play late, you can also take the 19:00 train or the 21:00 plane. Tiankeng and Difeng are each a line, and they are all flat and downhill roads, so the tour is very fast. The above time is already at a relatively slow speed. According to the above schedule, even if you walk down Tiankeng or queue for the elevator within 1 hour, the time is still quite sufficient. However, summer is the peak season, and 11 o'clock is the peak time for crowds, so it is possible that the elevator queue will be longer, which requires flexible response. Try not to be too late when exiting Tiankeng, and try not to give up Difeng (ticket inspection stops at 16:30), because Difeng and Tiankeng have different styles. It is enough to visit these twin scenic spots in one day. If you miss the 17:30 return bus, take the train. The efficiency of the shuttle bus at the train station is very high, you just need to get the train ticket. As long as you can return to the visitor center by 18:00 at the latest, you can definitely catch the last train back to Chongqing at 19:00 (buy the ticket in advance). Or you can take the bus to Fairy Mountain Airport and take the 22:00 plane. ✅ Two-day round trip After finishing the Tiankeng and Difeng tour on the first day, stay in Fairy Mountain Town, and on the second day, take the bus from the visitor center to Fairy Mountain Forest Park for a tour, then return to Chongqing, with plenty of time. If you go to Furong Cave on the second day, because it is not in the same direction, you need to return to Wulong City first. One day is also very sufficient to tour Furong Cave. In addition, Wulong also has attractions such as Impression Wulong, Tiankeng Village, and Baima Mountain. 💡 Actually, for a two-day tour, it is recommended to visit Fairy Mountain on the first day and enter Tiankeng and Difeng earlier on the second day, so there are fewer people and no queue for the elevator, making it more relaxed. ❤️ Summary: For a weekend round trip, you can take either the direct tourist bus or the train, both take about the same time on the road, and the train is cheaper. The return time of the direct bus is relatively early, but generally, you can catch it. If you can't catch it, you can take the train (be sure to buy the train ticket in advance). From Chongqing, jump on a train to Wulong — a budget-friendly ride that cost us around €2.50. Upon arrival, we grabbed a taxi straight to Chongqing Wulong County Yiqi Hotel, our accommodation for the night. It’s conveniently located right next to the tourist center, which made everything easier. (Alternatively, you can take a bus to the tourist center for only 10 yuan — the ride takes about 30 minutes.) After checking in, the hotel owner kindly drove us to the tourist center, where we bought our tickets to explore the national park. There are four main attractions to choose from: • Three Natural Bridges • Longshuixia Gap • Fairy Mountain (Xiannushan) • Furong Cave We chose the Three Natural Bridges (155 yuan), which included entrance, elevator access, and the scenic trail. This was the main reason we came to Wulong, and we planned to visit Longshuixia Gap (105 yuan) the next morning. Most people visit both in one day, but we preferred a slower pace. The walk through the Three Natural Bridges was absolutely breathtaking — peaceful, grand, and awe-inspiring. If you’re too tired to walk back, there’s a return shuttle bus available for 15 yuan. Our visit lasted around 2 hours with the shuttle; usually, it takes 2.5 to 3 hours, but hunger made us speed things up.

Let me tell you, traveling here is super easy! Their metro system is incredibly cheap and convenient. With just Alipay, you can handle everything in one app. The locals are very friendly—even though we don't speak their language, they make an effort to communicate with us. Especially when they see foreigners, they love to come and chat (whether we understand them is another story, haha). This trip abroad was a success and left a great impression—8/10. I joined a day tour to Wulong from Chongqing to make the journey fuss-free, and it was absolutely worth it. Wulong’s dramatic karst landscape is unlike anything I’ve seen — towering stone bridges, lush cliffs, and deep gorges that feel straight out of a fantasy world. In fact, parts of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” and other films were shot here, and it’s easy to see why. The Three Natural Bridges (天生三桥) were breathtaking, with massive stone arches spanning steep valleys. The nearby Longshuixia Fissure Gorge (地缝) offered an immersive hike through a misty, narrow canyon lined with waterfalls and moss-covered rocks. The path was wet and slippery, so I was really glad I wore shoes with good grip. Also, don’t forget an umbrella or raincoat — the weather changes fast and can catch you off guard. During my day tour in Chongqing, I visited the Yongshui Gorge area in Wulong. It was truly magnificent and grand. However, there are many stairs, so it might not be suitable for those with knee problems. Also, there are many waterfalls along the way, so your clothes might get soaked. I recommend bringing an umbrella or a raincoat. Luckily, I had a windbreaker with me. The natural scenery was absolutely stunning, and it's impossible to capture its beauty fully in photos! I highly recommend visiting this place during your Chongqing trip. I visited both Yongshui Gorge and Tian Sheng San Qiao on a day tour. Although the distance is a bit far, it's definitely worth it!

I took the 9:20 train ticket I bought on trip.com from Chongqing to Wulong. Upon arrival at wulong station, make your way downstairs, once you pass the passport verification machine and exit. Go down the escalator at the lower level is a bus stop and a taxi stop. The taxi drivers there will try to ask for 80 yuan total for atleast two person to go to Wulong Karst visitor Center. Don’t do that, there is a bus Instead that takes you there for 10 yuan from 1000 to 1600 on the right side. If you don’t see a bus and don’t want to wait, go left and go outside, there is a sign that says online hailed cab. Call your didi for taxi there if you prefer it. It was around 60 yuan metered. At Wulong karst visitor center, if you haven’t ate, I suggest you eat outside. Once you go inside past the metal detector head one floor down and there is a small shop that sells cup noodles and snacks or a coffee shop with minimal food. If you haven’t purchased tickets ahead of time, the ticket window is to the right. I had mine purchased from trip.com. I continued down one more flight and look at the lines that states which location you are going. On the Bus with literally 10 people on a Monday, we departed at 13:00 from the center to the three gorges and arrived at 13:08 to the entrance. Enter through the turnstile with your passport and they will see how many tickets you purchased. Bring a light jacket a poncho or an umbrella for unpredictable weather as well as water or snacks along the way. It was relatively hot, there were shades everywhere by the trees and that’s where a lot of people sheltered around. The crowd was light momentarily until 3-4 tour groups came by, there is a lot of walking involved that’s not too difficult. After a 5-10 minute walk, you’ll take the elevator down. Inside the elevator it doesn’t matter where you stand. It will spin so you can record as needed. At the lower level there is a restroom is and people with bamboo carriages willing to take you down the stairs. If you walk slowly and take your time, you won’t need to be carried down. If you get vertigo or dizzy from looking at the steps while going down, take a rest and stand there before continuing. The bamboo carriage ride down is about 200 yuan if you are feeling lazy. 😭 It started raining when I got to the end. From there you have the option of paying 15 yuan for an electric shuttle to the exit at the top which is recommended. The electric carts came every minute or so, fast line movement and 12 seats each cart going up. There are also steps that go up, all the way in the back of the ticket booth; that will take you about 30-45 minutes depending on your fitness physique, plus it was raining so it was not a good idea. Afterwards you’ll arrive at the exit; passing through food stalls to take a shuttle which is listed for line 3,4,5 to take the big bus you took entering three gorges back to the visitor center. The buses arrived every 2 minutes. It was relatively quick: the line moved very fast. I boarded the bus at 15:22 and got off 15:44; the returning bus ride was longer than entering. The returning drop off point for is behind the building the visitor center. I waited for 40 minutes at the drop off point for a didi to accept back to Wulong railway… I made a huge mistake by not calling ahead.. (gps signal isn’t that great for some reason when calling didi for pick up points sometimes) there were also touts at the exit point. The driver I encountered for a confirmed Didi ride wanted an extra 50 yuan separate payment (tip) on top of the didi trip 60 yuan. I reluctantly accepted after waiting for so long I just paid it. I did not want to wait anymore as that the next and last train was at 18:41. The 30 minute ride down to Wulong railway already made me miss the 17:02 train. Did not want to risk missing the last train back to Chongqing north. I didn’t prebook the train ride as I expected to not make the train back for 5pm. What I did was kept tabs on the time to atleast make sure I made it back for the last train if needed. I bought tickets in person for 24.5 yuan back to Chongqing North at Wulong station. The last train to Chongqing north is 18:41 and it was running 9 minutes late. The Wulong railway is small so seats were hard to find inside. Once on the train there were assigned seats but it’s not same as the high speed one, this was a slower train compared to the high speed. It’s a 3-2 setup and they are facing each other. Seats were surprisingly wide enough to sit. Only issue is that everyone smokes at the connector by the train doors, so the smell travels through the entire car for the entire 2 hours duration back.

After arriving at the tourist center, go down to the negative first floor to buy tickets. After buying the tickets, take the bus to the scenic spot 🚌 (included in the ticket price). Get off at the scenic spot Gate 2, but Gate 2 requires a separate fee. You can check the signs to find Gate 1. There's no turning back after entering the scenic spot, so be sure to stop and take pictures wherever you want along the way. There are some special photo spots indicated by the scenic spot, which are quite interesting. At the exit, there will be a sightseeing bus that takes tourists to the entrance of the bus to Difeng. This sightseeing bus (15/person) needs to be purchased on-site and is not included in the ticket 🎫. You can also walk up there, it's not too far, but it's all uphill and stairs, so if you're in a hurry, take the bus. There is a waterfall inside Difeng, which is very picturesque 📷, and there is a downward tunnel which is quite special.
