No confusion, searching for doors, or fuss. Everything was clear, fast, and caring! Perfect timing The layover lasted about three hours. During this time, we went through all the formalities smoothly, sat comfortably, and didn't have time to get tired of waiting. Everything went without a hitch. Cleanliness and atmosphere Inside, the airport makes a wonderful impression: everything is very clean, neat, bright, and modern. It's nice to just be in such a setting before a long-haul flight. Our layover was on a Monday, so we limited ourselves to a stroll around the museum complex. Prices in the city are generally low. By Russian standards, taxis are practically free. We used YandexGo with a linked MIR card, and everything worked perfectly. The prices at the cafes were also a pleasant surprise.

The route covers more than 1,400 kilometers and takes around 1 day and 16 hours, making it one of the country's longest rail journeys. As the train rolled across the endless steppe, the scenery kept changing. But the biggest surprise wasn't the landscape – it was the wildlife. Every now and then, I spotted wild camels calmly wandering just a few meters from the tracks. Seeing them in their natural habitat instead of a zoo felt surreal, and after a while I found myself constantly looking out the window, hoping another small herd would appear. Life on the train develops its own rhythm. Passengers share food, chat over endless cups of tea, stretch their legs during station stops, and watch the vast emptiness pass by outside. Time slows down in the best possible way. Instead of rushing from one destination to another, you begin to appreciate the journey itself. If you're looking for comfort and speed, flying is obviously the better choice. But if you want to experience Kazakhstan beyond its tourist attractions, I'd choose this train every time. I recently spent 8 days traveling through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to see the Silk Road architecture and get a feel for Central Asia. Here is exactly how I structured my trip and what I did each day: · *Days 1–3: Samarkand & Tashkent (Uzbekistan)** · **Registan Square:** I went straight to Samarkand after landing. This was the absolute highlight of the trip. The blue tilework and scale of the three madrasahs are incredible. I had to choose tickets with a long layover, but everything worked out wonderfully in the end. I had a wonderful day in the fascinating old town. I managed to visit many places and walk around in one day. The highlight was the "Shymkent settlement," a very ancient historical site with beautiful old architecture and antiques. The food and coffee were very affordable and delicious! If you have a long layover in Shymkent, I definitely recommend exploring this city.
