I went to "Live Fish Cuisine Binbiya" in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture! This delicious seafood restaurant is open from 9am to 3:30pm (8:30pm on weekends). I ordered the "Sea Bream Sashimi Set Meal" and was amazed at how thick and chewy each piece of sea bream was! It also came with miso soup filled with Naruto wakame seaweed, a specialty of Naruto City, and vinegared seaweed, so you'll be full. 🇯🇵 [3 nights 4 days Tokushima/Takamatsu travelogue] From a quiet town walk to Busshozan Onsen and Kobomachi Yakiniku A short but deep trip to Shikoku, Japan. This time, I started from Tokushima and went on a 3 nights 4 days trip to Takamatsu, following the quiet daily life of Japan. Since it was not a bustling metropolis, it was a time when I could really feel the quiet alleys, slow trains, and warm local atmosphere. ✈️ Immigration & Accommodation Information Departure: Eastar Jet – Incheon → Tokushima Airport Return: Jin Air – Takamatsu Airport → Incheon Accommodation for Days 1-3: JR Hotel Clement Tokushima (Right in front of the station, so the best route!) The small but neat streetscape and quiet atmosphere calmed my mind. 🚃 Day 2 – Minami Komatsushima-cho, a day in the town with a slow country train On the second day, I took a local train to Minami Komatsushima-cho for a short trip. It was such a quiet and peaceful place that just standing on the platform made me feel like I was on vacation. I walked through the alleys while drinking a cup of tea, and the people greeted me warmly. These days, I find this kind of town walk more healing. 🚍 Day 3 – Moving to Takamatsu & Busshozan Onsen, Kobomachi Yakiniku I took an express bus early in the morning to Takamatsu. The bus was spacious and comfortable, so it took about 2 hours in no time. After arriving, I unpacked and headed to Butshozan Onsen. There were both indoor and outdoor baths, so I felt like my fatigue was gone! The hot spring water was soft and had a subtle scent. The yakiniku I had at Kobomachi for dinner was seriously the best. The beef melted in my mouth, the light seasoning, and the simple atmosphere of the store… I definitely want to go back. The end was a must-visit for travelers, Don Quijote duty-free shopping! I filled up on everything from toiletries to snacks and face masks, and I was ready to return home🎁 🏯 Day 4 – Takamatsu Castle & Return On the last day of my trip, I stopped by Takamatsu Castle (Tamamo Park) near my accommodation. I took pictures and took a walk in the quiet castle grounds with the moat, and had a leisurely ending. It rained on the first day, so I went there on the second day, Wednesday. According to the information on Google Maps, it was closed only on Mondays, but it was closed on Wednesdays as well. Fortunately, the weather was nice and cool, so the view was nice. However, since I had to go hiking, I was tired and went into Naruto Bridge without worrying about the whirlpools, but since it was not the right time, I came back after seeing the calm sea and the view. Located in Tokushima City, Wada Noya has been insisting on using natural materials for 400 years to make Apot-produced "Saki no-yaki cake". The smoky glutinous rice crust is served with red bean filling, and a cup of pure and rich tea is served. Although there are other branches in the city, the reason I recommend going to the Wada Noya main store is that the store’s four seasons are full of character and only this store is not located in the mall. We purchased a combo ticket for the museum and the Uzunomichi walkway, and the museum staff even gifted us with a postcard. 📍Tokushima Prefectural Gokoku Shrine It was founded in 1928 as the "Tokushima Prefectural Shokonsha" at the site of Tokushima Castle (top of Shiroyama Mountain) in Tokushima Central Park, and in the following year, 1931, it was designated by the Minister of the Interior and renamed "Tokushima Prefectural Gokoku Shrine". The shrine building and office were destroyed in the Tokushima Air Raid in July 1945, but in 1958, amid the social situation of postwar chaos, it was rebuilt with support from both the public and private sectors. However, since the site is leased from Tokushima City and is also a historic site and cultural property protection area, development of the road to the shrine is not possible, and in recent years, it has been difficult for the aging bereaved families and other citizens of the prefecture to visit the Shiroyama Mountaintop Shrine. In this situation, in 2000, a philanthropist living in the prefecture donated land for the shrine (Saika-cho, Tokushima City) for relocating the shrine. With heartfelt support from bereaved families, veterans' associations, and many ordinary citizens of the prefecture, the shrine was able to be relocated in the fall of 2003. Since the relocation, in addition to visits by bereaved families and veterans' associations, the number of young people visiting the shrine has increased, for Shinto weddings, shrine visits for newborn babies, car purification, and the first shrine visit of the New Year. 📍 Ishii Town Daffodil Road Did you know that there is a flower field where daffodils bloom? Every spring, the flowers are in full bloom, and it has become a little famous spot where local people often come for walks. It takes about 10 minutes on foot from the temporary parking lot of the health center near the roadside station and Yasuda Elementary School to reach the entrance to the Daffodil Road, and from there, daffodils grow in clusters around the town road, on the mountain slopes, and in the rice fields for about 3 kilometers. There was also a large parking space on the riverbed. I had never heard of this place before, but daffodils are planted all along the river. The daffodil flowers growing in clusters in the tranquil Satoyama were lovely. I noticed that daffodils were also planted in the terraced fields a little distance away. 📍 Seto no Matsuri Sushi Seto no Matsuri Sushi is a local conveyor belt sushi chain in Shikoku with three stores in Tokushima Prefecture, one in Kagawa Prefecture, and for some reason one in Waikiki, Hawaii. (However, two of the stores in Tokushima Prefecture are called "Mawaru Sushi Matsuri"). When you sit down, the conveyor belt does not move, and all sushi is served after you order it. Everything is delicious and famous. Locally caught fish at a great price! It seems that it is not well known in the world, but the fish caught in the Seto Inland Sea are actually very delicious. The Seto Inland Sea, sandwiched between the Shikoku and Chugoku regions, has many small islands floating on it, creating unique currents that are stronger than they look. In Tokushima, the Naruto whirlpools are famous. The fish born and raised in the rapids all have firm flesh and a plump texture. The sea is rich in nutrients, so they are full of flavor. 📍Fukuroi Irrigation Park Fukuroi Irrigation was developed during the Edo period for agricultural purposes. Today, the area has become a park beloved by the local community and is a famous spot for cherry blossoms in spring. The playground equipment at Fukuroi Park includes swings, horizontal bars, and stretch benches, and there is also a drinking fountain. As a cultural asset, the remains of the Hōan Embankment, which was used as the outer moat of Tokushima Castle by Tokushima Domain founder Hachisuka Iemasa (Hōan was Iemasa's Buddhist name), are carefully preserved. Additionally, there is a monument dedicated to the village headman Kusudo Kizaemon, who completed the Fukuroi Irrigation by selling his private property, and the Fukuroi Irrigation Water Source Site, which is a designated cultural property and historic site of Tokushima Prefecture.
