Xinning travel guide and discussion

Just finished a slow 5-day, 4-night trip to Langshan in early July with 2 people. The total cost per person was about 1,100 yuan (including admission tickets, accommodation, meals, and transportation). The trip focuses on local, off-the-beaten-path, natural experiences without rushing or hitting tourist traps, offering an immersive experience of Danxia landscapes and Yao ethnic culture. This is a personal, firsthand account full of practical tips, perfect for beginners who want a laid-back vacation to follow directly. Detailed itinerary [Langshan Town, Bajiaozhai Scenic Area, Xinning County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province] 6:00 AM–10:00 AM Transportation: Take the scenic area shuttle bus from Langshan North Gate Visitor Center to Bajiaozhai. The trip takes about 30 minutes. The shuttle bus pass costs 35 yuan per person and is valid for three days. Admission: B-line combo ticket costs 136 yuan per person, covering the four main scenic spots: Bajiaozhai, Tianyi Alley, Chili Peak (including Camel Peak), and Zixiadong, valid for three days. You can also choose the A-line combo ticket for 186 yuan per person, which additionally includes bamboo raft drifting on the Fuyi River. Please purchase tickets only through the official "Langshan Tourism Area" channels. Activities: Watching the sunrise and sea of clouds at Bajiaozhai at 6 AM is the most classic Langshan experience. Bajiaozhai is 818 meters above sea level and the best spot to view Danxia landforms. The sea of clouds here is unique among Danxia landscapes nationwide. The summit offers a wide view and the rare experience of standing with one foot in two provinces (Hunan and Guangxi). The highlight is the "Whales stirring the sea"—Danxia peaks shrouded in mist resemble whales swimming in the sea. Visitors with average fitness are advised to take the cable car up. Tips from personal experience: The sea of clouds is most likely after rain in the early morning. Arrive at the foot of the mountain before 5:30 AM to start hiking. Wear non-slip sports shoes as the steps are many and steep. It’s windy at the top, so bring a light jacket. [Langshan Town, Tianyi Alley Scenic Area, Xinning County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province] 10:30 AM–12:30 PM Transportation: Take the shuttle bus from Bajiaozhai to Tianyi Alley, about 20 minutes. Admission: Included in the B-line combo ticket. Activities: Tianyi Alley is known as the "world’s narrowest alley," 238 meters long, with the narrowest part only 0.33 meters wide—just enough for one person to pass sideways. The walls are vertical like they were cut by knives, and looking up you see only a sliver of sky. Walking through it is very impressive and it’s one of Langshan’s most recognizable photo spots. Tips from personal experience: There are fewer people before 10 AM, making it better for photos. Visitors with a larger build should turn sideways and hold in their stomach to pass the narrowest part. The whole walk takes about 40 minutes. [Langshan Town, Chili Peak Scenic Area, Xinning County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province] 2:00 PM–5:00 PM Transportation: Take the shuttle bus from Tianyi Alley to Chili Peak, about 15 minutes. Admission: Included in the B-line combo ticket. Activities: Chili Peak is about 380 meters high and a typical sandstone peak forest of Danxia landforms. It looks like a giant red chili pepper and is very distinctive. We recommend hiking the lesser-known route from Chili Peak to Camel Peak to Linjiazai, about 3–4 hours with moderate difficulty. Along the way, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Danxia. Camel Peak consists of four peaks shaped like a camel, with excellent views from the top. Visitors with average fitness can just take photos at the viewing platform. Tips from personal experience: The afternoon light casts a slanting glow on the red Danxia cliffs, perfect for photos. Bring plenty of water and snacks as there are no supply points on the mountain. The "99 steps" section is steep; hiking poles are recommended. [Xinning County, Fuyi River Scenic Area, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province] 5:30 PM–7:00 PM Transportation: Take the shuttle bus from Chili Peak to the Fuyi River dock, about 15 minutes. Admission: Bamboo raft drifting is included with the A-line combo ticket. If you have the B-line ticket, you need to buy the bamboo raft ticket separately on site. Activities: Take a bamboo raft down the Fuyi River for about 1.5 hours. The Danxia peaks on both sides reflect in the clear water, with the General’s Rock and Camel Peak reflections like a painting. The raft drifts slowly, with a cool river breeze and relaxing scenery. At dusk, the Danxia reflections combined with the sunset create a perfect atmosphere. Tips from personal experience: Sit in the front of the raft and have a friend take photos from behind. Natural shots of reaching out to touch the water are easy to capture. The river is cool in summer evenings, so bring a light jacket. [Langshan Yao Village] Night 7:30 PM–9:30 PM Transportation: Take a taxi or local bus from the Fuyi River dock to Langshan Yao Village, about 15 minutes. Highlights: Langshan Yao Village is the core place to experience Yao culture. You can enjoy the Yao King feast—Yao sisters bring out twelve special dishes including fairy herb chicken, Yao King pork knuckle, and fried bamboo worms with peanuts. After dinner, watch Yao folk song and dance performances and intangible cultural heritage shows like "walking on knives and fire." Yao girls traditionally offer guests a welcome drink, creating a lively atmosphere. Tips: The Yao King feast requires advance booking. For safety, travel in groups at night. Performances usually start at 7:30 PM, so arrive early to choose good seats. Local must-try foods 1. [Xinning blood sauce duck] Full address: Local farmhouse restaurants in Langshan Town (several near the North Gate) Average cost: 40–60 yuan per person Signature dishes: blood sauce duck, stir-fried cured meat with bracken Review: Made with duck blood and meat, spicy and flavorful with a unique taste. A traditional local specialty that’s rich and goes well with rice, suitable for those who like strong flavors. Not recommended for those who don’t eat spicy food. 2. [Langshan fresh rice noodles] Full address: Breakfast shops in Xinning County town and Langshan Town streets Average cost: 10–15 yuan per person Signature dishes: fresh pork rice noodles, beef rice noodles Review: A warm and satisfying breakfast in the morning, with smooth noodles and delicious broth. The local favorite, affordable and authentic, suitable for all. 3. [Xinning navel oranges] Full address: Fruit stalls and specialty stores in Langshan Town Average cost: priced by weight, about 5–10 yuan per jin Signature product: fresh navel oranges Review: A nationally recognized geographic indication product, with crisp, tender flesh and a sweet-tart taste. July is not the main season, but they are still available and make great gifts. Complete practical tips Transportation guide High-speed rail: Take the high-speed rail to Shaoyang Station, Guilin North Station, or Dongkou Station, then transfer to a shuttle bus directly to Langshan. The Dongkou high-speed rail station has a shuttle bus departing daily at 8:20 AM from Langshan North Gate and returning at 2:50 PM from Dongkou Station. All travel is official and regulated; avoid unlicensed vehicles and private charters. Within the scenic area: Be sure to buy the shuttle bus pass for 35 yuan per person, valid for three days, connecting all main attractions. The distances between spots are long, so walking is not practical. Accommodation recommendations Choose lodging near Langshan North Gate Visitor Center, within walking distance to the scenic area entrance, dining, and shopping. Recommended are Juyatang Guesthouse (600 meters from North Gate), Xiaobaihua Resort Hotel (near the scenic area entrance, good conditions), and Shanxiyuan Boutique Guesthouse (4 minutes from Tianyi Alley). Avoid remote locations as night travel is inconvenient. Real pitfall avoidance guide 1. Avoid private guides and low-price sales tricks at the scenic area entrance. 2. Do not buy overpriced souvenirs or unclear low-price packages at the entrance. 3. Purchase tickets and make reservations only through the official "Langshan Tourism Area" WeChat account or other official channels. Do not trust private agents. 4. Avoid weekends and holidays when crowds peak. On weekdays before 10 AM, there are fewer visitors, making for a better experience. Essential items for travel (July only) In July, daytime temperatures in Langshan range from 23–30°C. The mountains feel like natural air-conditioned rooms. Essentials: sunscreen, sun hat, comfortable non-slip flat shoes (very important! Many steps on mountain paths), sunglasses, water bottle, light jacket (for mornings, evenings, and windy summits), power bank, and mosquito repellent (mosquitoes are common in the mountains). This trip was relaxing and healing, with a slow pace, off-the-beaten-path spots, no food disappointments, and excellent value. It’s perfect for couples, friends, or solo travelers who love natural scenery and slow vacations. All tips are based on real experience, so beginners can follow this plan easily and enjoy this hidden Danxia gem on the Hunan-Guangxi border.

Hunan's Severely Underestimated 5A Secret Realm! Stunning Danxia Comparable to Guilin ✨ When traveling to Hunan, seriously, don't just focus on Zhangjiajie! As a native Hunanese, I genuinely recommend this long-underestimated treasure 5A scenic area—Mount Langshan Scenic Area. It is a World Natural Heritage site, a National Geopark, and was even selected by "National Geographic" as one of China's seven most beautiful Danxia landforms. Unlike popular tourist spots, it has almost no marketing or hype, no crowded throngs, and perfectly preserves its original ecological Danxia landscape, with serene mountains and forests, and pristine, healing scenery. To be honest, phones and cameras can't capture even half of its grandeur! Only by standing personally amidst these red cliffs and Danxia formations can you truly comprehend the magnificence of billions of years of geological sedimentation. 📍Location: Shaoyang · Mount Langshan Scenic Area 🚗Transportation Guide (Super Practical) 1. Preferred Self-Drive: Attractions in the scenic area are spread out, so driving offers the most freedom and peace of mind, allowing you to stop whenever you like. 2. Public Transportation: High-speed rail to Shaoyang Station, Dong'an East Station (closer), or Guilin Station → Transfer to a long-distance bus to Xinning County → Take bus route 2 or 6 directly to Langshan North Gate. 🗺️Two Classic Itineraries ✅ Route A (Classic Panoramic Route) Bajiaozhai → Tianyi Alley → Camel Peak (Chili Peak) → Zixiadong → Fuyi River Bamboo Rafting ✅ Route B (Easy & Relaxed Route) Bajiaozhai → Tianyi Alley → Chili Peak (Camel Peak) → Zixiadong 🌿2-Day, 1-Night In-Depth Tour (Local's Secret) Day 1 Afternoon: Chili Peak + Tianyi Alley After arriving and settling in at noon, enjoy a light tour in the afternoon, avoiding the midday sun. First, explore the uniquely shaped Chili Peak and Camel Peak, then wander through the magical Tianyi Alley group. It's easy and not tiring, perfect for a first visit. Day 2 Full Day: Bajiaozhai + Fuyi River Bamboo Rafting Head to Bajiaozhai in the early morning to see the sea of clouds, then take a bamboo raft tour on the Fuyi River in the afternoon. Mountains and water blend together, offering an immersive experience of Langshan's stunning scenery. 📸Must-Visit Attractions: Real Experience 🔹Bajiaozhai (Top Priority! Must-Visit) The core and star attraction of Langshan, straddling both Hunan and Guangxi provinces, its geographical location is incredibly unique. The most spectacular is the iconic **"Whales Playing in the Sea"**! On a clear morning after rain, the mountains are enveloped in a surging sea of clouds, with Danxia peaks emerging from the mist, resembling thousands of giant whales swimming in the ocean, ethereal and incredibly breathtaking. It's highly recommended to visit on a clear morning after rain; you'll likely encounter a stunning sea of clouds and gentle sunrises/sunsets, creating an absolutely magical atmosphere. For ascending the mountain, the cable car is recommended; it saves effort and offers panoramic views of the entire Danxia peak forest. 🔹Camel Peak & Chili Peak (Photo Heaven) These two attractions are now connected, offering a smooth hiking route. Climb to the ridge shaped like a camel for expansive, boundless views. Especially at dusk, the sunset glow bathes the Danxia rock walls, making the entire peak appear a translucent reddish-orange. From a distance, the massive peak strikingly resembles a vibrant red chili pepper pointing skyward, creating a beautiful atmosphere! The best time to visit is in the evening, avoiding the scorching sun and enjoying comfortable temperatures, with the evening light perfect for stunning portraits. 🔹Tianyi Alley Known as a world-class Danxia "first-line-sky" (narrow gorge) cluster, it boasts 9 narrow stone alleys of varying sizes and shapes. The narrowest point is only 33 centimeters, requiring you to turn sideways and move slowly. The towering red rock cliffs on both sides are steep and sheer, allowing only a sliver of light to be seen overhead. It's deep, thrilling, and offers a unique immersive Danxia experience. 🔹Fuyi River Bamboo Rafting The river originates from Mao'er Mountain in Guangxi, and its water is crystal clear. Taking a boat in summer is incredibly cool and comfortable. Drifting on the river, you'll see continuous white sandbanks, willows swaying along the banks, and red cliffs reflecting in the water. You can also admire the majestic General Stone from afar. The scenery is no less beautiful than Guilin's landscapes, yet with fewer tourists, it's quiet and pleasant, making for an absolutely fantastic experience! 🔹Zixiadong, Natural Bridge These are less-known, tranquil spots. Caves, stone bridges, and forests complement each other, offering a relaxed pace. It's perfect for a leisurely stroll to experience the serenity of the mountains and forests. If you have ample time, definitely visit. 💡Heartfelt Travel Tips 🏠Accommodation: Prioritize staying in Xinning County town. There are many hotel and guesthouse options, offering good value, convenient dining, and easy access to the scenic area. 🍜Local Specialties: When in Xinning, you must try Blood Duck and Braised Tofu. These authentic Hunan dishes are savory and flavorful, local favorites enjoyed since childhood! 📷Photography Tips: In the early morning after rain, capture the sea of clouds at Bajiaozhai. At dusk, capture the sunset glow at Camel Peak. Every shot will be wallpaper-worthy! Many people visiting Hunan only know Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang Ancient Town, unaware that Langshan hides Hunan's most pristine Danxia fairyland. Without excessive commercialization, it retains the purest natural landscapes—beautiful scenery with fewer crowds, a healing and niche destination. Friends who love natural landscapes and pristine scenery must visit Langshan; you will definitely be amazed by this hidden Danxia paradise!

This is a seriously underrated 5A scenic spot, one of China’s seven most beautiful Danxia landscapes, and a World Heritage geological park!! Characterized by Danxia peak forests, it looks like thousands of bamboo shoots piercing the sky from the side, and like thousands of horses galloping from the front. The green peaks, red cliffs, and Danxia reeds create a soul-stirring scene. It’s unpublicized, less crowded, niche, well-preserved, and pristine! Danxia landform Langshan Mountain! 📍Langshan Scenic Area, Xinning, Shaoyang, Hunan 🚗 Recommended to self-drive for convenience 🚄 Take high-speed rail to Shaoyang Station, Dong’an East Station (closer), or Guilin Station ➠ transfer to a bus to Xinning ➠ take bus routes 2 or 6 to Langshan North Gate ➡️ Route A attractions: Bajiaozhai, Tianyi Alley, (Camel Peak), Zixiadong, Fuyi River Bamboo Rafting ➡️ Route B attractions: Bajiaozhai, Tianyi Alley, Chili Peak (Camel Peak), Zixiadong Recommended 2-3 days itinerary: ❶ Morning at Tianyi Alley, afternoon at Camel Peak (view Chili Peak from afar) ❷ Bajiaozhai - Fuyi River Bamboo Rafting If you have limited time and can only visit two places, I definitely recommend Camel Peak and Bajiaozhai! Most of my photos are from these two spots! 📷 Attraction introductions: 🔹 Bajiaozhai 👍 Must-visit Standing with one foot in two provinces, it’s the border between Hunan and Guangxi, and the most famous spot in Langshan. The “Whale Stirring the Sea,” also called “Eight Whales Stirring the Sea,” is very impressive. If you catch the sea of clouds at sunset, it’s absolutely breathtaking~✨ Recommended to visit after rain to see the sea of clouds. 🔹 Camel Peak (Chili Peak) 👍 Must-visit Originally two separate spots, now combined into one. Climb on the ridge that resembles a camel’s back. At dusk, the sunlight casts a reddish glow on the distant peaks, looking like a huge red chili pepper!✨ Recommended to visit at dusk to avoid the sun and catch the sunset glow! 🔹 Tianyi Alley This spot features nine different sizes of “One Line Sky” narrow gorges, a typical Danxia landform cluster. 🔹 Fuyi River Bamboo Rafting The Fuyi River originates from Mao’er Mountain in Guangxi. The walls are vertical, resembling cuts made by knives and axes. 2️⃣ Chili Peak About 380 meters high, it is a typical representative of the Danxia landform’s sandstone and conglomerate peak forest. The stone walls, as if cut by knives and axes, are adorned with clusters of yellow-orange "wild fruits." 3️⃣ Camel Peak The towering Camel Peak is the symbol of Langshan Scenic Area. Its shape is lifelike, resembling a standing camel. Up close, it looks like a giant statue. It is considered a masterpiece of the "natural zoo" in China’s Danxia landforms. 4️⃣ Bajiao Village Located northwest of Langshan Town, at the junction of Xinning County and Ziyuan County. It is the core area of Langshan’s natural scenery and the best place to admire the Danxia landform. In the southwestern corner of Hunan, there's a forgotten Danxia fairyland – it possesses the elegance of Guilin's landscapes, yet with an added touch of grandeur; it has the redness of Zhangye's colorful hills, but with a hint of Jiangnan's ethereal charm. I used to feel bored when I went to the countryside. Now I realize that the beauty of the countryside needs to be explored slowly and experienced carefully. Even in the small villages at the foot of the mountain, there are such beautiful wineries and orchards. I strongly recommend Mr. Dai Winery, which I tried this time~ Convenient transportation and a unique scenery! The dishes are delicious, inexpensive, and very cost-effective.

Want to travel during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day but afraid of the crowds? I've screened these 8 places for you—they're uncrowded, beautiful, and perfect for a visit in September–October. 01 Shaoguan | Guangdong Visit Danxia Mountain this season; it's so comfortable I want to convince you to take 2 days off. ⏰ Enter the mountain at 6:30 AM to watch the sunrise at Zhanglao Peak. It's so uncrowded you can hear yourself breathe. 📍 Don't skip Yangyuan Stone and Xianglong Lake. It takes about 4 hours to walk through, so wear soft-soled shoes. ⚠️ The rock walls reflect a lot of light at noon, so it's safest to head down before 11:00 AM. 🍜 After heading down, go to Renhua County for a bowl of sour bamboo shoot duck. The place with the most locals is always the right choice. 🚄 There is a direct shuttle bus from Shaoguan Station to the scenic area, taking about 1 hour. If you're bringing seniors, take the cable car up to save their knees. Book your tickets a day in advance for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day; don't get stuck waiting at the entrance on the day of. 02 Fuzhou | Jiangxi I didn't have high expectations for Dajue Mountain, but I ended up loving the canyon rafting. ⏰ The water temperature is still manageable in September, so 2:00 PM is the best time to start rafting. 📍 Take the cable car up and walk the Space Walkway first. Don't wear a skirt on the glass section—it's windy. ⚠️ You will get soaked rafting. Waterproof phone pouches are expensive at the scenic area, so bring your own. 🍜 Order Zixi bread and chicken soup at a farmhouse restaurant at the foot of the mountain—it's hearty. Great for couples and families with kids, but children under 1.2 meters are not allowed to raft. If you don't want to get wet, take the route to Dajueyan Temple. It's quiet and shaded. Visit in September to avoid the peak season; you basically won't have to queue for the cable car. 03 Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan is the kind of place that photos can't even capture one-tenth of. ⏰ Hike Camel Peak after 5:00 PM. The lighting is just right, and Chili Peak is dyed orange. 📍 You have to turn sideways to pass through the narrowest part of Tianyi Lane. If you're on the heavier side, be careful—I almost got stuck. ⚠️ You need to wake up at 4:00 AM to watch the sunrise at Bajiaozhai. If you aren't very fit, don't push yourself. 🍜 Eat blood duck in Xinning County—it's straightforwardly spicy and pairs well with rice wine to cut the grease. Two days and 1 night is enough: hike on the first day, and take a bamboo raft on the Fuyi River on the second. If you're bringing kids, take the Chili Peak loop—it's flat. It's much quieter here than in Zhangjiajie during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. 04 Shigatse | Tibet Combining Mount Everest and Tashilhunpo Monastery is my personal favorite. ⏰ There's a high chance of seeing the "golden mountain" sunset at Everest Base Camp in October, but it gets below freezing at night. 📍 Go to Tashilhunpo Monastery in the morning. The sound of monks debating and the scent of yak butter incense mix together—it's very peaceful. ⚠️ Get your border permit in advance. You can have it processed in downtown Shigatse, so don't wait until you reach the checkpoint to panic. Don't push yourself regarding altitude sickness; take 2 days to acclimate in the city first. 🚄 There is a high-speed train from Lhasa to Shigatse, taking about 3 hours. It's less hassle than chartering a car. Suitable for solo travelers or couples in good health; be cautious if bringing seniors or children. Book your tent campsite in advance if going during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. 05 Shuozhou | Shanxi The name "Shahukou" sounds intimidating, but it's actually a quiet section of the old Great Wall. ⏰ Go after 4:00 PM. The wind blows the grass into waves, and the light hits at an angle. 📍 Walk along the earthen wall section of the Xikou Ancient Trail. You can see cart ruts under your feet and feel the rough texture. ⚠️ There are few dining options nearby, so bring your own water and snacks. Don't count on finding food at the scenic area. 🍜 Go back to Youyu County for a bowl of lamb offal soup with fried pancakes—it warms you right up. Suitable for those who like history and hiking, not for those seeking excitement. The grass turns yellow in October, maximizing the desolate feel. Driving is most convenient; navigate to Shahukou Village, and parking is free. 06 Yanbian | Jilin I went to Liuding Mountain for the Golden Buddha, but I ended up staying for the wetlands at the foot of the mountain. ⏰ Go up the mountain at 9:00 AM before the fog clears; the Buddha statue is in the clouds. 📍 There are many steps at Zhengjue Temple, so take your time. Seniors can take the sightseeing bus. ⚠️ The temperature difference between morning and evening is large in October, so you must bring a jacket, though short sleeves are fine at noon. 🍜 After heading down, go to downtown Dunhua for cold noodles and blood sausage—the sweet and sour flavor is refreshing. 🚄 It takes about 20 minutes by taxi from Dunhua Station to the scenic area. Visit during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day to catch the early autumn colors of the mountains. It's family-friendly, and the wetland boardwalk is stroller-accessible. 07 Nanchong | Sichuan I advise you not to go to Langzhong Ancient City at noon during holidays—it's packed. ⏰ At 7:00 AM, the bluestone roads are quiet, with only the sound of street sweeping and the scent of vinegar. 📍 Walk west from Zhongtian Tower and take the ferry at Huaguang Tower Pier—it costs 2 yuan to cross the river. ⚠️ Ignore the touts around Zhangfei Temple; it's more relaxing to explore on your own. 🍜 Baoning vinegar with Zhangfei beef, plus a bowl of oil tea with fried dough strips—that's a complete breakfast. It's suitable for a slow stroll; stay at an inn in the ancient city for 2 days and 1 night. The river water is cool in October. Watching the panoramic view of the ancient city from Jinping Mountain in the evening, when the lights turn on, is worth the price of admission. Hotel prices rise during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, so book early. 08 Manzhouli | Inner Mongolia I initially thought the Matryoshka Scenic Area was tacky, but I found the night view truly stunning. ⏰ The lights turn on at 7:30 PM, and Matryoshka Square feels like falling into a fairy tale. 📍 The National Gate Scenic Area and the Matryoshka area are close to each other; you can visit both in 1 afternoon. ⚠️ Matryoshka souvenirs inside the scenic area are overpriced; go to the Yiwu Mall in the city to buy them. 🍜 The Russian food at Lubuli Restaurant has long queues, so go at 2:00 PM to avoid the rush. It's suitable for families with kids and photography enthusiasts. It's windy in October, so bring a hat and scarf. It takes about 3 hours to drive from Hailar during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, and the grasslands along the way are already golden. Stay in the city for easy access to the night view. Of these 8 places, the ones I most want to visit again are Langshan and Langzhong. What about you? Where are you planning to go for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day? Let's chat in the comments.

Travel on a budget! 8 less-crowded and affordable places for September–October 1️⃣ Shangqiu | Henan Shangqiu is a must-visit in September and October, especially Mangdang Mountain. ⏰ Arrive at the entrance before 8:00 AM for fewer crowds, soft light, and plenty of parking. Mangdang Mountain isn't just one mountain; it's a cluster of Han culture attractions. The underground corridor in the Tomb of the Queen of Prince Liang is cool inside—you'll save on AC if you visit in summer. 📍 Pick up a map at the Han Liang King Mausoleum Visitor Center and follow the route: Tomb of Prince Liang of Liang > Tomb of the Queen > Liu Bang Slaying the Snake Monument. It's a smooth path with no backtracking. Individual attraction tickets aren't cheap, so check the official platform for a combo ticket in advance to save enough for a meal. ⚠️ The steps in the tomb passage are slippery, so wear sneakers, not flip-flops. 🍜 After coming down the mountain, head to the old town of Yongcheng for a bowl of sa soup and pan-fried buns. You can eat your fill for about CNY 15 per person. Great for students and family trips. By the end of September, the persimmons at the foot of the mountain turn red—perfect for photos without filters. 2️⃣ Foshan | Guangdong Foshan is perfect for a slow-paced trip; a day and a half is just right for Qinghui Garden and Xiqiao Mountain. Qinghui Garden isn't large, but the bougainvillea is still blooming in September and October. ⏰ Enter as soon as it opens at 9:00 AM to photograph the boat hall without crowds. 📍 After leaving Qinghui Garden, walk along Huagai Road Pedestrian Street. The double-skin milk at Minxin Old Shop is a bit sweet; I prefer the ginger milk curd next door—the spice level is just right. ⚠️ Avoid the garden on weekend afternoons when tour groups swarm in. Don't take the cable car up Xiqiao Mountain; walk up via Baiyun Cave. It takes 40 mins to reach Baofeng Temple, and there's plenty of shade along the way. 🚄 It's a 20-min ride from Guangzhou South Station, and transferring from the Foshan metro to a bus is convenient. Stay near Ancestral Temple, explore Lingnan Tiandi at night, and have a bowl of Yingji wonton noodles. Great for couples and friends. If you're on a tight budget, stay in the old town of Chancheng for around CNY 100. 3️⃣ Tai'an | Shandong September is the most comfortable time of year to climb Mount Tai. ⏰ Start from Hongmen at 4:00 PM to avoid the sun; you'll reach Nantian Gate just in time for the sunset. Don't believe the "night climb for sunrise" hype—it's cold enough at night to make you question your life choices. ⚠️ The rental fee for military coats at the summit is reasonable, but keep your deposit receipt. Prices are normal below Zhongtian Gate, but bottled water prices double further up, so carry two bottles yourself. 🚄 A taxi from Tai'an Station to Hongmen costs about CNY 15. On the way down, take the cable car to Zhongtian Gate and then transfer to the scenic area shuttle to save your knees. 🍜 After descending, head to the Old County Office for a Mount Tai tofu feast for about CNY 40 per person. Suitable for office workers with average stamina; a slow 5-hour climb is enough. In October, the leaves on the mountain turn yellow, which looks better than in summer. 4️⃣ Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan Mountain is in Xinning, Shaoyang. In September and October, La Jiao Feng (Chili Peak) and Tianyi Lane are the most photogenic spots. ⏰ Enter the mountain at 7:30 AM while the morning mist is still lingering; there's a high chance of seeing the sea of clouds at Bajiaozhai. 📍 For the narrow gap at Tianyi Lane, friends who are a bit larger should turn sideways to pass through—don't carry a large backpack. ⚠️ The stone steps are slippery on rainy days, and the scenic area may temporarily close the lane, so check official notices before you set off. Two-day itinerary: Day 1, watch the sunrise at Bajiaozhai, then visit La Jiao Feng in the afternoon; Day 2, go rafting on the Fuyi River, where the water is clear enough to see the bottom. 🚄 Take a bus from Shaoyang Station to Xinning, which takes about 2 hours. 🍜 In Xinning town, try the blood duck—you'll need a local to guide you to the small restaurants that serve it—for about CNY 35 per person. Great for hikers and photography enthusiasts. Stay at a guesthouse near the scenic area entrance for just over CNY 100; the owner can even help you plan your route. 5️⃣ Tonghua | Jilin Tonghua's autumn has a hidden gem: Ji'an. ⏰ From late September to early October, the second wave of rapeseed flowers blooms in Ji'an, with far fewer crowds than in Qinghai. For the Goguryeo historical sites, don't just photograph the Haotaiwang Stele; 📍 the stone formation at the General's Tomb is more atmospheric. At 4:00 PM, when the light hits it at an angle, it feels like time travel. ⚠️ The indoor exhibition halls in the historical site area are closed on Mondays, so plan your itinerary accordingly. 🚄 There is a train from Tonghua Station to Ji'an; it's slow, but you'll see the colorful "five-flower mountains" outside the window. 🍜 Eat Korean-style hot pot on Huopen Street in Ji'an; a small portion is enough for two, costing about CNY 50 per person. Perfect for those who like peace and quiet and don't want to crowd into popular tourist spots. Stay by the river in Ji'an to watch the Yalu River mist in the morning—no ticket required. 6️⃣ Shizuishan | Ningxia Visit Shahu Lake in September when the reeds turn yellow and there are more birds. ⏰ Take a boat into the lake before 10:00 AM for less wind and clearer reflections. 📍 The Shahu Scenic Area has north and south piers; ask clearly when buying tickets, as the south pier is less crowded. ⚠️ The speedboat rides by the lake are expensive and short, so I don't recommend them—save your money for camel riding instead. 🚄 It's a 1-hour drive from Yinchuan; driving yourself is the most convenient. 🍜 After leaving the scenic area, go to Dawukou for cold noodles (liangpi) with extra chili oil and a bottle of local soda for CNY 10. Great for families with kids; the combination of sand and water makes for a full day of fun. In October, the reeds turn completely yellow, making for more layered photos than in summer. Buy tickets online in advance to save a few bucks. 7️⃣ Qiqihar | Heilongjiang Visit Zhalong to see red-crowned cranes; September and October are the migration season. ⏰ There are crane release shows at 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM; arrive 20 mins early to get a good spot. 📍 At the Zhalong Reserve crane viewing platform, bring a telephoto lens, as phones won't capture them clearly. ⚠️ Don't wear brightly colored clothes, as the cranes are easily startled. The scenic area's electric cart costs extra, but it's only a 30-min walk inside. 🚄 A taxi from Qiqihar Station to Zhalong costs about CNY 40; ride-sharing is more cost-effective. 🍜 Back in the city, have Qiqihar barbecue—marinated meat with onions—for about CNY 60 per person. Great for families and nature lovers. Stay in Longsha District and stroll around Laodong Lake in the evening. It's windy in October, so bring a windbreaker. 8️⃣ Longnan | Gansu Longnan is an outlier in Gansu, with water and trees. In Wenxian Tianchi and Guan'egou, the colorful forests start changing color in September and October. ⏰ Enter Guan'egou at 8:00 AM, take the sightseeing bus to the very end, and then walk back out to save energy. 📍 For the Wenxian Tianchi lakeside boardwalk, walking half the loop is enough; the scenery on the other half is repetitive. ⚠️ Some sections of Guan'egou are under construction, so check official announcements before you set off to avoid a wasted trip. 🚄 There are shuttle buses from Longnan Station to Dangchang; stay at a guesthouse at the entrance of Guan'egou for around CNY 120. 🍜 In Dangchang, try the potato jiaotuan (mashed potato dough) dipped in sour and spicy sauce for CNY 5 a bowl. Great for road trippers and those who like off-the-beaten-path routes. In October, the red leaves and green water in Guan'egou are beautiful, with fewer crowds and lower costs than Jiuzhaigou. The temperature difference between morning and evening is large, so bring a light down jacket. These eight places are perfect for September and October. Pick one near you, buy a ticket, and go. Tell me in the comments which one you want to visit most, and I'll help you plan your route.

Take 3 days off to visit these 8 places, and you'll come back feeling like a new person 01 Shaoyang | Hunan Take 3 days for Langshan, and don't try to do too much. Choose either Bajiaozhai or Lajiaofeng to climb; if you do both, your legs will be shot. ⏰ Depart from Shaoyang South Station before 7:00 AM. It takes about 2 hours to reach Xinning County, then transfer to the scenic area shuttle. The highlight of Bajiaozhai is the Whale Sea-Watching Platform. There's a high chance of seeing a sea of clouds after rain; it's actually quite plain on sunny days. 📍 Walk right from the cable car station to the boardwalk. It takes 20 minutes to reach the top, which is half the effort of the left side. If you're with seniors, take the cable car; don't push yourself. The Danxia textures of Lajiaofeng are more impressive up close, but the steps are narrow. Those with a fear of heights will want to turn back halfway. ⚠️ After 4:00 PM, the light is blocked by the mountain, making photos look gray. It's recommended to plan for the morning. Stay in Xinning County, not at the entrance of the scenic area. Dining in the county is cheaper; blood duck and pork blood balls are worth trying. The prices at the local restaurants in the scenic area are double. 02 Bayingolin | Xinjiang This place is so big you'll think your GPS is broken. Bayanbulak, the Taklamakan Desert, and the Tarim Populus Forest—trying to do all 3 in 3 days is a dream. Choosing 2 is already the limit. For Bayanbulak, see the Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns. ⏰ Arrive at the viewing platform 2 hours before sunset; if you're late, you'll only see the back of people's heads. There are so many mosquitoes they could carry you away, so long sleeves, long pants, and mosquito repellent are essential. The shuttle bus queue is long, so bring some snacks. The Taklamakan Desert Highway is great for a road trip. 📍 The section from Luntai to Minfeng is the most photogenic. Don't enter the desert in the afternoon; the surface temperature can fry an egg. Go in the early morning or evening, bring enough water, and expect spotty cell service. The Tarim Populus Forest Park is only worth it in October; visiting in other months just means looking at dead branches. ⚠️ The park is huge. Don't get off the small train halfway; waiting for the next one takes 30 minutes. 🚄 Korla is a good base. Renting a car is more cost-effective than hiring a driver. 3 days is only enough for Bayanbulak and the Populus Forest; save the desert for next time. 03 Jiaozuo | Henan Yuntaishan, Qingtianhe, and Shennongshan—visiting all 3 is just paying to suffer. If it's your first time, prioritize Yuntaishan; the other 2 depend on your stamina. Yuntaishan's Red Stone Gorge is the signature spot. ⏰ Enter the park before 8:00 AM; if you're late, it's just crowds of people and you won't be able to move. Choose either Tanpu Gorge or Quanpu Gorge, as the scenery is very similar. Climbing Zhuyu Peak takes about 2 hours; if your knees aren't great, just take the cable car. Qingtianhe is great for a boat ride. The mountain scenery reflected in the water is more comfortable than climbing. 📍 The section from the Dam Pier to Sanguquan is the quietest and suitable for kids. Shennongshan's Baisongling is dangerous; those with a fear of heights should be cautious. Stay in the Anshang service area; there are many homestays and dining is convenient. 🍜 Henan braised noodles and donkey meat soup—the places at the entrance of Anshang village are more authentic than those inside the scenic area. ⚠️ Yuntaishan tickets are valid for 2 days, but you can only enter each attraction once, so plan your order well. For a 3-day trip, I suggest 1.5 days for Yuntaishan, half a day for Qingtianhe, and skip Shennongshan. 04 Yulin | Shaanxi Wave Valley, Jiaxian Yellow River, and Red Stone Gorge—this route is suitable for a road trip. Public transportation will make you wait until you doubt life. The Danxia lines of Wave Valley look like waves. ⏰ After 4:00 PM, the light hits at an angle, making the textures clearest. 📍 Area 1 has fewer people than Area 2. It's a 20-minute walk in. Wear non-slip shoes; it's easy to slip on the sandstone. ⚠️ Don't step where there are fences; the fines are no joke. Jiaxian Yellow River is best viewed at Xianglu Temple. The temple hangs on the cliff, with the Yellow River right under your feet. Go in the afternoon when the light hits the river, making it shine yellow. The mountain roads are narrow, so be careful when passing other cars. Red Stone Gorge is north of Yulin city, perfect for the evening. ⏰ After 6:00 PM, the light is soft, and the cliff carvings are clear. It's not big; 1 hour is enough to explore. 🍜 Yulin Pin San Xian (a local stew) and lamb offal soup—the old shops on the old street are more reliable than the trendy ones. Stay in Yulin city; it's convenient for Red Stone Gorge, but you'll need to wake up early for Wave Valley. 05 Nyingchi | Tibet Bomi, Basum Lake, and the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, plus the Yunnan-Tibet Highway—3 days is simply not enough. Pick 2 spots and slow down; it's better than rushing. The water in Basum Lake is an unreal green. ⏰ Arrive before 10:00 AM when there's no wind on the lake, and the reflection is complete. 📍 Take a walk around the temple on Zhaxi Island; it takes 20 minutes. ⚠️ The altitude is 3,400 meters, so don't run or jump; walk slowly. Seeing Namcha Barwa Peak at the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon is all about luck. If you go during the rainy season, you likely won't see it; the chances are higher after October. 📍 Suosong Village is a great spot to see the peak. Staying overnight to wait for the sunrise is more worth it than the viewing platform. Bomi peach blossoms bloom in March; visiting in other months is just passing through. The Yunnan-Tibet Highway is for experienced drivers; beginners should avoid it, as it's winding and narrow. 🚄 Nyingchi has an airport, but there are few flights. Most people take a car from Lhasa, which takes a day on the road. For a 3-day trip, I suggest only visiting Basum Lake and Suosong Village; don't be greedy. 06 Tonghua | Jilin Goguryeo cultural relics and the rapeseed flower fields in Ji'an—one is for history, the other for the season. Rapeseed flowers bloom in June; visiting in other months means only seeing the ruins. The Goguryeo cultural relics are in Ji'an. 📍 The Stele of King Gwanggaeto and the General's Tomb are close to each other and can be visited on foot. ⏰ Go in the morning for good light and fewer people. Hire a guide, otherwise, you're just looking at rocks. ⚠️ Photography is prohibited in some areas; pay attention to the signs. The rapeseed flower fields in Ji'an are at their peak in June, with large patches of yellow spreading to the riverbank. ⏰ Go in the evening; the light is warm and great for portraits. Don't step on the flowers in the fields; farmers are watching. 🍜 Ji'an Huopen Street is worth visiting. Barbecue in a fire basin with cold noodles costs about 50–60 per person. Stay in Ji'an city; it's convenient for both spots. There isn't much to see in Tonghua city itself, so save your time for Ji'an. 3 days is just right and not tiring. 07 Datong | Shanxi Yungang Grottoes, the Hanging Temple, and Mount Heng—these 3 spots form a line, and 3 days is just right, but the order must be correct. See the Yungang Grottoes first. ⏰ Enter as soon as it opens at 8:30 AM; there are fewer people and the light is good. 📍 Caves 5 and 20 are the highlights; don't dawdle at the entrance. ⚠️ Flash photography is not allowed inside the caves, and security guards are strict. Hire a guide or rent an audio guide, otherwise, you won't understand what you're seeing. The Hanging Temple is in Hunyuan, about 1.5 hours from Datong city. ⏰ Go in the morning; it's backlit in the afternoon. You need to buy a separate ticket to climb the temple, and the queue is long. Those with a fear of heights should just look from below. Mount Heng is next to the Hanging Temple, and it takes about 2 hours to climb. If your stamina is average, just take the cable car; don't push yourself. ⚠️ It's windy on the mountain, so bring a jacket. 🍜 Datong knife-cut noodles and lamb offal soup—the old shops on the old street in the city are better than those near the scenic area. Stay inside the Datong ancient city; it's convenient for walking the city walls at night. 08 Fuzhou | Fujian Three Lanes and Seven Alleys is Fuzhou's calling card, but don't just walk the main street; exploring the alleys is where the fun is. ⏰ Go before 8:00 AM. The shops aren't open, but the alleys are quiet, and no one will block your photos. 📍 The former residences of Lin Juemin and Yan Fu are worth entering; they are free, just exchange your ID for a ticket. The main street is heavily commercialized; head to the alleys on both sides of Nanhou Street, where the old houses are more authentic. 🍜 Tongli Rouyan (meat swallows) and Yonghe fish balls—the old shops are better than the chains. Have Guo Bian Hu (pot-edge paste) for breakfast with fried dough sticks; you can get full for 10 yuan. ⚠️ It's crowded on weekends; the experience is twice as good on weekdays. Three Lanes and Seven Alleys isn't big; half a day is enough. Save the rest of the time for Yantai Mountain and Shangxiahang. Stay near Dongjiekou; it's directly accessible by subway and convenient for going anywhere. A 3-day trip in Fuzhou is more comfortable if you take it slow rather than just checking off boxes. Take 3 days off and choose just one place to visit. You'll come back feeling like a new person—not because of how many attractions you visited, but because you finally stopped for 3 days. Which one do you want to visit the most? Let's chat in the comments.

Traveling with kids for 3 days often means worrying about rushing and long lines. I’ve screened these 8 spots based on "kids can run, adults can rest"—no detours, no overexertion. 1️⃣ Leshan | Sichuan Head to the Leshan Giant Buddha in the morning. 📍 Enter through the North Gate and exit through the East Gate. Walk down the Nine-Turn Plank Road. Have water and a small fan ready for the kids while waiting in line. ⚠️ During peak season, the plank road has capacity limits; avoid entering after 11:00 AM. Head to Mount Emei in the afternoon, but don't try to reach the summit. With kids, stick to the section from Qingyin Pavilion to the Ecological Monkey Zone. The path is flat, shaded, and follows the sound of the stream. ⏰ Steps are slippery after rain; wear shoes with good grip. 🍜 Have qiaojiao beef soup after coming down the mountain. The broth is clear and the meat is tender—kids will like it. Staying at a guesthouse at the foot of the mountain is easier than staying on the mountain, so you don't have to rush the next morning. 2️⃣ Zhoukou | Henan This stop in Zhoukou is more cultural, better for older kids. Visit the Taihao Fuxi Mausoleum Cultural Tourism Zone in the morning. It's a large, tree-filled park that's stroller-friendly. 📍 Enter through the Wuchao Gate and stroll along the central axis; don't rush back. Save Taiqing Palace for the afternoon. It's quiet and less crowded, and the atmosphere of Laozi's birthplace is perfect for sharing little stories while walking. ⚠️ The drive between these two spots is long; driving yourself is easier, or allow plenty of time for public transport. 🍜 Have a bowl of spicy soup with flatbread in the city for lunch. If the kids don't like spicy food, order the mild version. Overall, one spot per half-day—no fatigue. 3️⃣ Aksu | Xinjiang The Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon is the "wildest" stop on this trip. The towering red-brown mountains will make kids want to run ahead. 📍 The main canyon round trip takes about 2 hours. Bring plenty of water; there's no shade in the canyon. ⏰ It's most comfortable to enter before 10:00 AM or in the evening; the midday sun is intense. ⚠️ Don't enter on rainy days; flash floods happen quickly, and the scenic area will close temporarily. Suitable for school-age kids with good stamina; for younger babies, a baby carrier is more practical than a stroller. 🍜 Back in the city, have mixed noodles and baked buns. The portions are large; one serving is enough for two. 4️⃣ Nanjing | Jiangsu Three days in Nanjing is just right, but don't overpack your schedule. Visit the Presidential Palace in the morning. 📍 Enter through the main gate and exit through the West Garden. Skip the history parts if the kids won't understand, and focus on the gardens and corridors. Save the Confucius Temple-Qinhuai River Scenic Belt for the evening; the atmosphere is great once the lights come on. ⚠️ The boat ride has long lines; buy tickets in advance if you want to ride, or just walk along the river if you don't want to wait. Choose between Niushou Mountain and Xuanwu Lake: go to Niushou Mountain for architecture, or Xuanwu Lake for boating and fun. 🚄 The subway covers most areas; it's more reliable than a taxi when traveling with kids. 🍜 Duck blood vermicelli soup and soup dumplings are great for breakfast; kids usually like them. 5️⃣ Shizuishan | Ningxia Shahu is where sand meets water; kids can play here all day. 📍 Take a boat into the lake area first, then see Bird Island, and finally go sand sliding on the dunes. ⏰ The wind is light and the light is soft in the morning; the sand gets hot in the afternoon. ⚠️ Sand sliding and camel riding are charged separately. Ask what's included in the package before entering so you don't have to pay for each item individually. Bring sun hats and a change of clothes; playing in the sand gets messy. 🍜 Food in the scenic area is average; I recommend bringing a light meal and having hand-grabbed lamb back in the city. Suitable for kids over 3 who don't mind the sun. 6️⃣ Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan is perfect for a slow 2-day stay. For kids, choose Bajiaozhai and Lajiaofeng first. 📍 The cable car saves a long climb, and the rest of the path is easy for kids to walk on their own. ⏰ Go up the mountain early in the morning to see the sea of clouds; the mountain shapes are very clear after the fog clears. ⚠️ There are many steep steps; seniors and young children should know their limits and not force the whole climb. 🍜 For farm-style food at the foot of the mountain, order blood duck and cured meat—the flavors are strong, so order a steamed egg separately for the kids. Stay near the scenic area; it's cool in the morning and evening. 7️⃣ Shanghai Shanghai has many options; switching based on the weather is the easiest. Go to the Disney Resort or Expo Park on sunny days. 📍 Enter Disney early to hit popular rides, then return to the hotel for a nap at noon before heading back. If it rains, switch to Yu Garden and Guangfulin Relics Park; both have indoor and outdoor areas. ⚠️ Don't buy scalper fast passes for Disney; the official app is the most accurate for wait times. The underground exhibition halls at Guangfulin are cool, perfect for escaping the heat in the afternoon. 🚄 Subway plus walking is usually enough; it's stroller-friendly. 🍜 Grab soup dumplings and pan-fried buns near Yu Garden; don't wait in the longest line right at the main entrance. 8️⃣ Fuzhou | Fujian Sanfang Qixiang is a perfect finale—slow pace, lots of shade. 📍 Enter from Nanhou Street and turn into smaller alleys like Langguan Lane or Ta Lane; the crowds will immediately drop by half. ⏰ It looks best in the evening when the lanterns light up; it's too sunny during the day. ⚠️ The main street is very commercial; head to the side alleys if you want peace and quiet. 🍜 Meat wontons, fish balls, and guobianhu are all suitable for kids—the flavors are mild. If you stay nearby, you can come back for a bowl of guobianhu in the morning as a nice walk. For a 3-day stay, choose 2 or 3 spots to explore in depth—it's more rewarding than checking off 8. Of these 8, Leshan and Fuzhou are best for a slow family stay, while Nanjing and Shanghai offer the most backup options. Which one are you planning to hit first?

Hunan's hidden 5A treasure — Langshan, a secret realm of Danxia wonders✨ I always thought Hunan's beauty was concentrated in Zhangjiajie, until I came to Langshan and realized this is the truly underrated kingdom of Danxia! Langshan is located in Xinning, Shaoyang. As a World Natural Heritage site with a complete Danxia peak-forest landform, it has no crowds, and the rock formations are masterfully crafted by nature. Walking along the mountain trails, there is scenery at every step. 📸 Photo spots ✅ Chili Peak: The iconic giant rock in the pictures, shaped like an upright chili pepper. The cliffside trail is built along the mountain, with valleys and forests beneath your feet—the atmosphere is incredible. ✅ Tianyi Lane: The "world's number one lane." It's a narrow, natural stone crevice where the narrowest point requires you to turn sideways to pass through. Walking through it is truly impressive. ✅ Bajiaozhai: The heart of Langshan. Reach the summit to overlook the continuous Danxia mountains. When the clouds and mist rise up, it feels like a fairyland. ✅ Camel Peak: The mountain is shaped like a camel, with climbing stairs winding between the rock walls and offering expansive views. 🗺️ Travel tips ▫️ Tickets: The package includes multiple attractions and is valid for 3 days, so you can take your time exploring ▫️ Transport: Self-driving is recommended as the attractions are far apart, and public transport is relatively inconvenient ▫️ Gear: Comfortable, non-slip sneakers! There are many stairs and climbing is physically demanding, so be sure to bring drinking water ▫️ Best time to visit: Spring and autumn, as it's easier to encounter cloud seas in the mountains after the rain Compared to popular tourist spots, Langshan has far fewer visitors. You won't have to deal with crowds, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the Danxia wonders created by nature. If you want to escape the crowds and see magnificent red rock peaks, Langshan is the perfect choice!

Want to get away for Mid-Autumn and National Day but worried about your wallet taking a hit? I went through my bills and picked 8 places that really won't cost much. No detours, just practical tips. 1️⃣ Hechi | Guangxi First up, Hechi — a typical place where the scenery outshines its fame. The Donglan landscape spreads along the Hongshui River; taking a boat to watch both banks is calmer than you might expect, and a boat ticket for a few dozen CNY can fill an afternoon. ⏰ Arrive at the pier before 8:00 AM for the best mountain silhouettes while the mist hasn't cleared. Jiudun Tiankuang is a classic dive spot; even if you don't dive, you can watch the water from shore — that blue-green is real, not a filter. 📍 It's about a 40-minute taxi from the county seat; carpooling saves money. Xiangbei Shiwai Taoyuan and Sanli Yangdu work well in the same day. The former lets you walk along rice ridges and see caves, the latter offers a bamboo raft float — water levels are stable in autumn and it's not too sunny. ⚠️ Don't buy so-called "combo tickets" at the entrance; buying single tickets is usually cheaper. For lodging, pick Jinchengjiang old town — a night is just over CNY 100. At night, have a bowl of boiled rice noodles with pickled bamboo shoots for about CNY 10. Good for budget travelers who don't mind some travel hassle. 2️⃣ Baoji | Shaanxi Baoji is one of my underrated stops. Mount Taibai in autumn is layered with color; you can wear short sleeves at the base but need a jacket up top. 🚄 It's about 1 hour by high-speed train from Xi'an. Ticket prices are stable; don't believe rumors of "pre-holiday price hikes." The Famen Temple Buddhist cultural area is best in the morning — fewer people and an easy walk along the central axis. ⚠️ Don't be pressured into paying for "consecration" services at the gate — just tour on your own. Guanshan grassland and Dongshanfeng head in different directions; if you're short on time, pick one. The grassland is for lying back and cloud-watching, Dongshanfeng is for hiking and wind on your face. 📍 The grassland is best reached by car or private hire; bus service is limited. For food, try noodles with rolled dough and meat sauce — under CNY 20 a meal. Stay near Jing'er Road for convenience. Suitable for seniors and solo travelers wanting to relax. 3️⃣ Yangzhou | Jiangsu I recommend avoiding the crowds at Slender West Lake at midday during holidays. ⏰ Enter the park before 7:00 AM for soft light and calm water; you can take photos without dodging people. The lake breeze in autumn brings just the right coolness. Ge Garden and He Garden are close; pick one to explore in depth. Ge Garden's bamboo and seasonal rockeries are more appealing, while He Garden's covered corridors are great for depth shots. 📍 It's within walking distance from Dongguan Street. Stop for a bowl of dry mixed noodles on the way. 🍜 For morning tea, skip the hyped places — a long-standing street shop serving sandwiched buns and green willow spring tea will do well for about CNY 20. ⚠️ Some gardens require reservations during National Day. Check official notices before you go. Stay near Wenchang Pavilion; buses reach most spots. Great for couples and for walking slowly with parents. Low cost and you control the pace. 4️⃣ Shaoyang | Hunan Shaoyang is mainly about Langshan. The Danxia at Bajiaozhai is most vivid in autumn; the climb takes about 2 hours, and those with average fitness can take the cable car. ⏰ Head up after 4:00 PM — the sunset moment alone is worth the ticket. 📍 Tianyi Alley is so narrow you have to turn sideways to pass; larger friends should be prepared. Chili Peak looks more interesting from a distance than climbing it up close, so don't force it. For food, duck blood soup and pork blood meatballs are salty in the local style — they go well with rice. Stay in Xinning county town; a night costs about CNY 100, roughly half of what the scenic area charges. ⚠️ Bottled water is often twice the price inside attractions, so bring enough with you. Good for hiking lovers and anyone wanting to avoid overly popular peaks. For Mid-Autumn and National Day, leave early — parking is tight. 5️⃣ Putian | Fujian I recommend one highlight in Putian: Meizhou Island Mazu Cultural Tourism Area. Take the ferry to the island and let the sea breeze relax you. 🚄 From Putian station, take a bus to the pier and then buy the ferry ticket; overall cost is not high. ⏰ The Gewei Shenshi Garden at dusk is best for sea views — the rocks shine from the waves. 📍 There is an electric cart loop on the island; don't walk the whole route or you'll get tired. 🍜 Check prices before ordering seafood on the island and confirm the unit before weighing. A bowl of Mazu noodles is about CNY 10–20 and very filling. ⚠️ Book ferry tickets in advance on holidays; lines at the pier can be mind-boggling. Island homestays are cheap on weekdays but jump in price on holidays. Good for bringing elders for blessings or for solo sea-gazing. Affordable and authentic. 6️⃣ Turpan | Xinjiang Turpan is at its best in September–October: the grapes are ripe and the sun is less harsh. Flaming Mountain looks fiery from afar but is less extreme up close. ⏰ Go in the morning; the ground surface temperature is still high in the afternoon. Kumutage Desert is near the city; camel rides and sandboarding cost extra. To save money, walk a stretch of the dune barefoot. 📍 Go in the evening when shadows lengthen — great for photos. ⚠️ Don't go at noon; soles of shoes can get scorched. The Grape Valley area in Turpan city is good for a slow stroll. The karez irrigation system museum has a low ticket price and shows how locals survived here. 🍜 Pilaf and baked buns are sold individually for around CNY 10 each. Stay near the old town; hostel beds are just a few dozen CNY. Good for those who don't mind the sun and want an exotic feel. Bring a jacket — temperatures drop a lot between day and night during Mid-Autumn and National Day. 7️⃣ Hengshui | Hebei Hengshui Lake was a surprise. In autumn, the reeds turn yellow and the whole lake looks like it's been color-graded. ⏰ Go at dawn for more birds and fewer people. Rent a bike to circle the lake — a day costs a few dozen CNY. 📍 It's about a 30-minute taxi ride from Hengshui station to the lakeside. The lake area has no entrance fee; boat rides cost extra, and walking the boardwalk is scenic enough. ⚠️ Don't trust roadside touts offering "speedboat tours" — prices are opaque. 🍜 In town, try the shoe-sole sesame pancake with old-style tofu — a meal for a few CNY. Stay near the train station; budget hotels are under CNY 100. Good for families and anyone wanting a quiet couple of days. This place doesn't rely on fame — it rewards those willing to slow down. If you want to avoid crowds during Mid-Autumn and National Day, consider it. 8️⃣ Yingtan | Jiangxi Last stop, Yingtan, where the star attraction is Longhu Mountain. Danxia landforms plus the Luxi River — take a bamboo raft and float a stretch as the mountains recede on both sides; it's very relaxing. ⏰ Float in the morning when the light is favorable and you're not shooting into the sun. 📍 Stop by Shangqing ancient town on the way — the old street is short and can be walked in half an hour. ⚠️ Ask about "blessing" type services before you pay. Tickets and bamboo raft fees are sold separately; buy what you need. 🍜 Tianshi roasted chicken with chestnuts and Luxi river fish are local specialties; look for a small town restaurant — about CNY 40–50 per person. Stay in Yingtan city; buses reach the scenic area entrance. Good for people who like scenic water-and-mountains without heavy climbing. For Mid-Autumn and National Day, book bamboo raft time slots in advance to avoid waiting. Of these 8 places, I personally most want to go back to Hechi and Turpan. One is peaceful, the other is intense. Pick one and you're all set.

If it's your first time in Shaoyang, don't join a tour group—I'm being honest with you✨ I'm telling you from the heart: if it's your first time in Shaoyang, definitely don't book a tour group! Shaoyang's attractions are spread across different counties, with World Heritage Danxia landforms, alpine grasslands, and ancient Miao and Yao villages scattered everywhere. Low-cost group tours usually involve early morning departures and rushing around. You'll only get 10 minutes to snap photos of the Langshan sea of clouds, and you won't have time to wait for the sunset at Nanshan Pasture. You'll waste tons of time in souvenir shops being pushed to buy pig blood tofu balls and braised snacks. These assembly-line itineraries make it impossible to experience the charm of Baoqing's landscapes. A self-guided trip lets you set your own pace—taking your time hiking and slurping noodles is the right way to experience Shaoyang. 📅 3-day, 2-night self-guided itinerary Day 1: Shaoyang city | The vibrant life of the thousand-year-old Baoqing ancient city Arrive at Shaoyang Station. Don't book tickets to Shaoyang North Station, as it's very far from the city center. For breakfast, head straight to an old local shop to slurp a bowl of thick Shaoyang rice noodles with large slices of beef topping and a dash of soul-satisfying mountain pepper oil. In the morning, explore the Baoqing Ancient City Wall and Linjin Gate, take a stroll along the Zi River, and visit the Shuifu Temple. The red walls and ancient architecture create a great atmosphere, and everything is free. If you have time, visit the Shaoyang Museum to learn about Baoqing's history. In the afternoon, head to the Former Residence of Cai E; the blue-brick courtyard is quiet and serene. In the evening, explore the old town, enjoy local late-night snacks, and stay in the city center, where dining and shopping are convenient. Day 2: Langshan, the soul of Danxia World Heritage Depart early for Langshan in Xinning, a 5A World Natural Heritage site. The joint ticket is valid for 3 days. Head to Bajiaozhai first. If you're lucky, you can see the "Whales Frolicking in the Sea" cloudscape. From the summit, you can overlook the thousands of Danxia peaks on the border of Hunan and Guangxi. Next, visit Tianyi Lane, the "Number One Lane in the World." The rock walls are narrow and deep, requiring you to turn sideways to pass through. In the afternoon, visit Lajiao Peak and Camel Peak; the red rock formations are breathtaking. For lunch, have blood-sauce duck in Xinning town—it's authentic southwestern Hunan flavor. Stay at a homestay at the foot of Langshan in the evening to make it easier to wake up early for the sunrise the next day. Day 3: Nanshan Pasture, southern alpine grasslands (choose one option) Option A: Nanshan Pasture. Drive up the mountain. Known as the "Hulunbuir of the South," it sits at an altitude of over 1,700 meters with vast meadows, herds of cattle and sheep, and windmills scattered across the mountains. View the panorama from Ziyang Peak, take photos at Maoping Lake, and taste fresh milk and handmade yogurt. Wait for the sunset over the grasslands in the evening, and if the weather is good, you can see the starry sky at night. Option B: Longhui Huayao Scenic Area and Huxingshan Terraced Fields. In September–October, the rice fields turn golden. Visit the Huayao ancient villages to experience ethnic minority customs—perfect for those who love culture and pastoral scenery. In the afternoon, buy some local specialties and head home. 🍲 Must-eat food list in Shaoyang ✅ Thick Shaoyang rice noodles: Completely different from Changsha flat noodles. They are thick, round, and chewy, served in a rich beef bone broth. The large-slice beef noodle soup is the gold standard for breakfast. Remember to add a little pickled long bean. ✅ Blood-sauce duck: A signature Shaoyang dish. Young duck is stir-fried with duck blood, young ginger, and chili peppers. The sauce is rich and goes perfectly with rice. ✅ Pig blood tofu balls: An intangible cultural heritage smoked delicacy made from pig blood, tofu, and local pork. Stir-frying them with cured meat is incredibly fragrant, or you can steam and slice them directly. ✅ Wugang braised dishes: Century-old braising recipes. Try the braised dried tofu, braised copper goose, and braised pig trotters. They are savory with a hint of herbal aroma. You can eat them on the spot or buy vacuum-packed ones as souvenirs. ✅ Stir-fried beef tripe from Pingshang: Crispy and refreshing, drizzled with mountain pepper oil for a fragrant finish. Also try Miao-style cured meat, rice paddy fish, sugar oil rice cakes, and grilled beef fat. For souvenirs, we recommend Wugang braised dishes, pig blood tofu balls, and Nanshan dairy products. ⚠️ Tips to avoid tourist traps 1. Attractions are spread across different counties, so self-driving or hiring a legitimate private car is best. County buses are infrequent and stop running early, making public transport exhausting. Don't trust low-priced one-day tours recommended by street vendors or taxi drivers; most are shopping tours. 2. Langshan has many stairs, so wear non-slip sneakers the whole time. Buying a joint ticket online in advance is more cost-effective. If you want to see the sea of clouds at Bajiaozhai in the morning, wake up early and bring a jacket, as it's windy on the mountain. 3. Nanshan Pasture is at a high altitude with a huge temperature difference between day and night, so bring a thick jacket even in autumn. The mountain roads are winding, so drive slowly. Don't trample on the grasslands, and don't feed the cattle or sheep. 4. Shaoyang cuisine is very spicy, so remember to ask for "mildly spicy" when ordering. Try to eat at old shops in residential areas, as restaurants near scenic spots are overpriced. Buy local specialties from legitimate shops, not from street stalls where you might overpay. 5. Don't go off-trail when hiking, and follow the scenic area's fire safety regulations. Respect local ethnic minority customs when visiting ancient villages. 💛 Final thoughts Shaoyang is an underrated treasure in southwestern Hunan, featuring magnificent Danxia landforms on one side and alpine grasslands on the other, plus the vibrant life of a thousand-year-old ancient city and Miao and Yao customs. On a self-guided trip, you don't have to rush. You can wait for the sea of clouds at Bajiaozhai or watch the sunset at Nanshan—whatever you like. Take your time to experience the landscape, slurp noodles, and eat cured meats. That's what makes this trip worth it.

(Clickbait alert! ...Actually, it's a reverse recommendation!) Who gets it? Hunan isn't just Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang; Shaoyang is truly hiding divine landscapes! It has world-class Danxia landforms, alpine grasslands, and the thousand-year-old Baoqing Ancient City. It's relatively less crowded, and the food is incredibly appetizing—perfect for a weekend or short getaway 🥳 📍Why come to Shaoyang Formerly known as Baoqing, it is the hometown of Wei Yuan and Cai E. On one side, you have the stunning Danxia landforms of Langshan Mountain; on the other, the healing scenery of Nanshan Pasture with cattle and sheep grazing in the breeze. The old town is full of local life. With dishes like blood duck, pig blood balls, and Shaoyang rice noodles, you'll be hooked after one bite. It's incredibly cost-effective! 📅Best time to visit ✅April–October is the most comfortable Head to Nanshan Pasture in the summer to escape the heat; the temperature is very pleasant. September–October offers crisp autumn air, beautiful light and shadows on the Danxia landforms, and less rain, making for a perfect hiking experience. Winter is on the colder side and is not recommended as a priority. 🔥Must-visit attractions 1. Langshan Mountain (5A · World Natural Heritage) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shaoyang's top attraction! At Bajiaozhai, you can see the "Whales in the Sea of Clouds" and stand with one foot in Hunan and the other in Guangxi. Tianyi Lane is known as the "Number One Lane in the World," with its narrowest point being 0.33 meters—you have to suck in your stomach to get through! The Laojiao Peak has a very recognizable shape, and the red Danxia landforms are incredibly photogenic. The joint ticket is valid for 3 days. 2. Chengbu Nanshan Pasture | The "Little Hulunbuir" of the South 🐑 Alpine grasslands! Hills covered with cattle, sheep, and windmills. Go horseback riding, watch the sunset, and drink fresh milk. It's the perfect summer getaway for those who love a relaxed connection with nature. 3. Shaoyang City: Baoqing Prefecture Ancient City Wall + Shuifu Temple + Beita Park Free to visit! Take a walk along the Zi River. The ancient city wall is full of history, and the red walls of the ancient Shuifu Temple are very photogenic. Come and experience the local life of old Baoqing. 🗺️Itinerary | 2 days 1 night essential version (weekend-friendly) Day 1 | Explore and eat in Shaoyang city Arrive at Shaoyang Station → In the afternoon, visit the Baoqing Prefecture Ancient City Wall, Shuifu Temple, and Beita Park, and take a walk along the river to take photos. In the evening, eat authentic Shaoyang rice noodles and pig blood balls, and explore the old town night market. Day 2 | Langshan Mountain Danxia day trip In the morning, charter a car or join a carpool to Xinning Langshan (about 2 hours from the city). Visit Bajiaozhai → Tianyi Lane → Laojiao Peak; return in the evening. If you have extra time, you can add a day to visit Nanshan Pasture to watch the sunset over the grasslands and drink fresh milk—it will take your experience to the next level! 💡Tips ▪️Attractions are relatively scattered. For inter-county travel, carpooling or chartering a car is more convenient. ▪️Must-eat list: Blood duck, pig blood balls, Wugang braised dishes, Shaoyang rice noodles, and Nanshan fresh milk. ▪️For Langshan Mountain, it is recommended to wear comfortable sneakers, as there are many stairs to climb. Shaoyang isn't a major internet-famous destination, but the landscapes and food are truly a pleasant surprise. It's so comfortable to come here for a vacation and avoid the crowds ✨

Budget travelers, rejoice! These 5 off-the-beaten-path cities cost CNY 500 per person for a 3-day trip 01 Jincheng | Shanxi Heading to Shanxi in August is all about staying cool and saving money. I originally just passed through Jincheng, but I ended up staying for three days because I couldn't bear to leave. The Huangcheng Xiangfu Ecological and Cultural Tourism Zone is the main event. ⏰ Arrive before 8:00 AM to avoid tour groups and enjoy softer lighting. Book your admission ticket through official channels in advance. Prices are subject to the daily announcement, and student IDs can save you a bit. 📍 The stone archways and city walls inside the residence are worth exploring slowly; don't just take photos at the entrance and leave. I've seen too many people finish their visit in half an hour—what a waste. 🍜 For lunch, grab a bowl of knife-cut noodles at a small restaurant outside the scenic area; it's filling and only costs about 10 yuan. Don't eat inside the scenic area—it's expensive and mediocre. ⚠️ The sun is still harsh between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, so I recommend hiding in a courtyard or resting at your inn during this time. Come out in the evening to explore the perimeter of the ancient castle—it's free and the breeze is cool. Best for: Students, budget backpackers, and ancient architecture lovers. Not suitable for those looking for amusement park rides. 02 Guiyang | Guizhou Guiyang is a budget travel paradise—I'm not exaggerating. Guiyang in August is in the 20s (°C), so you'll need a light blanket at night. Tianhetan Resort is best visited in the morning; the caves and waterfalls are refreshing. I recommend entering Qingyan Ancient Town after 4:00 PM; it's less crowded, the light is warm, and you won't be fighting for photo spots. 🍜 You can try the braised pig's trotters and rose candy in the ancient town, but don't buy too much and avoid stalls with inflated prices. Gaopo Yunding Grassland is an unexpected surprise. ⏰ Go in the evening to see the sea of clouds and the sunset together. It's windy, so bring a jacket. Huaxi Park is free and great for a morning stroll; there are more local seniors than tourists. 🚄 There are buses from the city center to Qingyan for just a few yuan. Taxis aren't expensive either, and it's more cost-effective to split the fare. ⚠️ Those "free photo" stalls in the ancient town will eventually ask you to pay to print the photos—just say no. 03 Mudanjiang | Heilongjiang Coming to Mudanjiang in August is all about the coolness of Jingpo Lake. Summer is short here, and there's a big temperature difference between day and night, so you must bring long sleeves. For the Diaoshuilou Waterfall at Jingpo Lake, ⏰ go in the morning for steady water flow and good lighting. Taking a boat tour depends on your budget, but you can still see the waterfall without it. 📍 There's a lot of walking in the lake area, so wear comfortable shoes. Seniors and children should take it slow, as some parts of the boardwalk can be slippery. 🍜 Ask about the price before ordering fish by the lake to avoid being overcharged by "market prices." Small restaurants in the city are more reliable. Mudanjiang city center isn't big, and accommodation near the train station is cheap. 🚄 There are shuttle buses from the city to Jingpo Lake; leave early, and a round trip is perfect for a day. ⚠️ August is the tail end of peak season, so book your accommodation in advance; prices are likely to go up if you book on the spot. 04 Aksu | Xinjiang August in Aksu is hot during the day, but the Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon is another world. Red-brown mountains sandwich a narrow gap; walking inside feels like entering the folds of the Earth. ⏰ Go in before 10:00 AM when the light slants into the canyon, making the colors most vivid. It's too sunny at noon, and the canyon gets stuffy. 📍 It takes two or three hours to walk the full length of the canyon, so bring enough water. There are no supply points inside, so don't count on it. 🍜 Back in the city, have a meal of mixed noodles with a baked bun for just over 20 yuan—it's a solid meal. Aksu apples start hitting the market at the end of August; buy a few from a roadside stall to try. ⚠️ Some sections of the canyon require using your hands and feet, so you'll regret wearing sandals. It's not recommended for seniors or those with limited mobility to walk the entire route. Best for: People who like landscapes and hiking. Not suitable for those who dislike the sun or getting tired. 05 Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan Mountain in Shaoyang was my biggest surprise this time. It has Danxia landforms, far fewer people than neighboring Zhangjiajie, and the prices are gentle. ⏰ It's worth waking up early to go up to Bajiaozhai in the morning to see the sea of clouds. As soon as the sun comes out, the red of the Danxia landform comes alive. 📍 Lajiao Peak and Tianyi Lane are two different routes. If your stamina is average, choose Tianyi Lane; squeezing through the narrow gaps is fun. Lajiao Peak involves a lot of climbing, so know your limits. 🍜 For farm-style food at the foot of the mountain, try the blood sauce duck and pig blood meatballs. The prices are more reasonable than those flashy shops at the entrance of the scenic area. ⚠️ There are few supplies on the mountain, so bring your own water and dry food. The stone steps are slippery on rainy days, so don't force it. 🚄 There are shuttle buses from Shaoyang city to Langshan, or you can carpool. Stay at a homestay at the foot of the mountain for a few dozen to over a hundred yuan a night. 06 Changchun | Jilin Changchun is comfortable in August—not stuffy during the day and cool at night. This city is meant for slow exploration, not rushing. I recommend visiting the Museum of the Imperial Palace of Manchukuo in the morning; ⏰ enter as soon as it opens at 9:00 AM to avoid crowds and get a clearer explanation. Check the official daily announcement for admission tickets and reservation rules. Go to the Changchun World Sculpture Park in the afternoon; the lawns are huge and perfect for lying down and zoning out. Changying Century City is great for kids with many attractions, but queuing takes time. I recommend Jingyuetan in the evening. 📍 You can cycle or walk around the lake; bike rentals are just a few yuan an hour. The breeze in the forest is several degrees cooler than in the city. 🍜 There are many snacks around Guilin Road; you can get your fill of grilled cold noodles and guobaorou. Choose accommodation near the train station or Guilin Road for convenience and affordability. ⚠️ Several venues are often closed on Mondays, so check before you go to avoid a wasted trip. 07 Pingxiang | Jiangxi Wugong Mountain in Pingxiang is at its greenest in August. But I must be clear: this is not an easy route. ⏰ If you want to see the sunrise, you have to go up the mountain in the afternoon and stay at the summit. Book tents or inns in advance; it's hard to find them on the spot during peak season. 📍 The stretch from Jinding to Fayunjie, with its rolling meadows, is the highlight. If you're fit, walk the whole way; otherwise, combine the cable car with hiking. 🍜 Instant noodles and hot water on the mountain are expensive, so carry your own dry food. The Pingxiang stir-fried rice noodles at the foot of the mountain are just a few yuan a bowl—eat your fill before you set off. ⚠️ It's cold on the mountain at night in August, so you must bring a windbreaker or a thick jacket. The weather changes in an instant, and a raincoat is more practical than an umbrella. Best for: Hiking enthusiasts and those who want to see the meadows. Be cautious if bringing seniors or children. 08 Chongqing Chongqing is hot in August, but budget travelers have their own ways. Hide during the day, come out at night, and you can still have a great time. The Dazu Rock Carvings are worth a special trip; ⏰ go in the morning for the best lighting and explanations. Jinyun Mountain is the locals' backyard for escaping the heat—it's cool and the admission ticket is cheap. Wulong Karst Tourism Area is worth a full day; the Three Natural Bridges and the Earth Fissure are stunning. For the Yangtze River Three Gorges, you can take a regular cruise ship, which saves a lot compared to luxury cruise ships. 🍜 You can get a meal of small noodles or hot and sour rice noodles in the city for just a few yuan. Don't eat inside Hongya Cave—it's expensive. ⚠️ The sun in Chongqing in August is serious, so don't skimp on sunscreen and hydration. The spot where the light rail goes through the building is packed with people—take one photo and leave. Choose accommodation along the light rail line for convenient and cheap travel. In this city, you can have a fulfilling trip even on a budget. These eight places aren't expensive to visit in August. Pick two or three to visit in a row, and a 3-day trip for CNY 500 per person isn't a dream. Which one do you want to visit most? Let's chat in the comments.

Where to go for Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day? 8️⃣ Less crowded off-the-beaten-path small cities 01 Meizhou | Guangdong If you want to avoid crowds during Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, Meizhou is an underrated option. Yan Nanfei Tea Plantation is just in time for the end of autumn tea harvest; the terraced fields are a vibrant green, like stepping into a matcha mille-feuille. ⏰ It's recommended to arrive before 8 AM, before the morning mist dissipates, so you don't have to fight for good photo spots. 🚄 Take the high-speed train to Meizhou West Station, then a taxi to the tea plantation takes about 40 minutes. Don't believe the touts offering "one-day tours" at the entrance; it's cheaper to use Didi (a ride-hailing app). 📍 At Weilong Restaurant in the tea plantation, you can enjoy a Hakka meal. Braised pork belly with preserved mustard greens and stuffed tofu will fill two people up for just over 100 yuan. ⚠️ The sightseeing bus to the tea plantation costs 20 yuan one way, but it's only a half-hour walk. If you're physically fit, don't spend the extra money. In the afternoon, stroll through the old walled villages of Qiaoxi Ancient Town, and in the evening, return to the city center for a bowl of Sanjidi soup. Suitable for a leisurely stroll with parents, not ideal for young people looking for thrills. Prices will increase during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, so book two weeks in advance. 02 Sanming | Fujian Dajin Lake and Taining Ancient City can be combined into a day trip, but don't get the order wrong. ⏰ In the morning, take a boat trip on Dajin Lake. The water is cool, and the Danxia landforms are at their most vibrant in the morning light. The boat ticket plus entrance fee is around 160 yuan, and the entire trip takes about four hours. Remember to bring a light jacket, as it can be windy on the boat. 📍 In the afternoon, return to Taining Ancient City. The alley near the entrance of Shangshu Mansion is more interesting than the main street, with its old brick walls and red lanterns, and no one blocking your photo opportunities. 🍜 Warm mushroom buns and jade rolls are local specialties in the ancient city. The warm mushroom buns have a chewy outer layer and cost five yuan each; eat them while they're hot. ⚠️ Some attractions at Dajin Lake may be closed during the dry season; check park announcements before you go. A taxi from Taining Station to the ancient city costs 10 yuan; avoid taking a three-wheeled vehicle, as it's bumpy and expensive. Suitable for couples and photographers; the boat journey is a bit long if you have children, so bring snacks. Much quieter than Xiamen during Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. 03 Guyuan|Ningxia The Xumishan Grottoes were my most unexpected highlight of the trip. ⏰ Go after 3 PM; the sunlight shines obliquely into the grottoes, making the Buddha statues' outlines incredibly clear. Tickets are 60 yuan, and guided tours cost an additional 100 yuan. I suggest joining a tour group's guided tour and using the saved money to eat hand-pulled lamb. 📍 The grottoes are distributed across eight cliff faces. Don't just visit the entrance grottoes and leave; walk further in. The standing Buddha in Grotto 28 is the most breathtaking. 🚄 It takes about an hour by taxi from Guyuan Station. Public transportation is infrequent; driving or hiring a car is best. ⚠️ Flash photography is prohibited inside the caves. Security is tight, so don't take chances. 🍜 Back in the city, head to Lao Bai Shi Lamb Restaurant. Hand-pulled lamb is 80 yuan per jin (500g), served with garlic and vinegar—not gamey at all. This place is suitable for those interested in grotto art; simply taking photos might be boring. During the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, Ningxia experiences significant temperature differences between day and night, so a jacket is a must. 04 Shaoyang|Hunan Langshan is relatively unpopular in Hunan, but its scenery rivals Zhangjiajie. ⏰ Enter the mountain at 7 AM for the highest chance of seeing the sea of clouds at Bajiaozhai. Later, you'll only see crowds. The entrance fee is 130 yuan, including several attractions. Chili Peak and Tianyi Alley are the most worthwhile. 📍 Tianyi Alley is so narrow at its narrowest point that only one person can pass sideways. Those who are slightly overweight should be prepared. 🚄 The journey from Shaoyang Station to Langshan takes about two hours. It's recommended to stay overnight in Xinning County and enter the mountain early the next morning. ⚠️ Don't ride in the sedan chairs on the mountain; they charge by weight, and the fare might be more expensive than the entrance fee. 🍜 After descending the mountain, have a bowl of Xinning blood sauce duck. The duck meat is firm and very spicy. Suitable for hiking enthusiasts, but older people may find it difficult to walk on the spicy peaks. If it rains during the Mid-Autumn Festival or National Day holidays, the stone steps can be slippery, so wear non-slip shoes. Overall, the cost is not high; a two-day, one-night trip can be had for around 400 yuan per person. 05 Xinzhou|Shanxi Yanmen Pass, Laoniu Bay, and Wutai Mountain are located across a large area, so don't expect to visit them all in one day. ⏰ Go to Yanmen Pass in the morning. The wind on the city wall is strong enough to blow your hat off. Climbing to the top and seeing the winding Great Wall is worthwhile. The entrance fee is 90 yuan, and the shuttle bus costs an additional 10 yuan. If you're on your feet, it only takes about 20 minutes to walk up. 📍 Laoniu Bay is best visited in the evening. It's where the Yellow River meets the Great Wall, and the sunset turns the water a bronze color. 🚄 The journey from Xinzhou to Laoniu Bay takes about three hours. Driving is the most convenient option; public transportation is more time-consuming. ⚠️ Wutai Mountain entrance fee is 135 yuan. Temples inside charge separate entrance fees, so prepare small change. 🍜 Wutai Mountain's specialty is stewed mushrooms and tofu, but the price doubles inside the scenic area. It's more cost-effective to eat it in Taihuai Town after descending the mountain. Suitable for families with cars. Elderly visitors to Wutai Mountain should be mindful of the altitude and avoid walking too fast. Temperatures will drop in Wutai Mountain during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays; down jackets are essential. 06 Mudanjiang|Heilongjiang Autumn arrives early at Jingpo Lake, allowing you to experience the vibrant autumn colors during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. ⏰ In the morning, take a boat trip on the lake. The reflection of the colorful mountains on the water resembles an overturned palette. The boat ticket is 100 yuan, and the entire trip takes one and a half hours. It can be windy on the deck, so dress warmly. 📍 The water flow at Diaoshuilou Waterfall is still good at this time of year. There are two diving performances, one at 10 AM and one at 2 PM. Arrive 10 minutes early to secure a front-row seat. 🚄 It takes about an hour and a half to get from Mudanjiang Station to Jingpo Lake. A shared ride costs 50 RMB per person, more flexible than a bus. ⚠️ Don't rush to buy the grilled fish by the lake; walk further in and the price is about one-third cheaper. 🍜 Back in the city, try the Korean cold noodles. They're sweet and sour, served with sweet and sour pork, and cost about 50 RMB per person. Suitable for families with children to see the waterfall and take a boat ride, but not ideal for those wanting to do water sports, as it gets cooler. During the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, it gets dark early in Northeast China, so plan indoor activities after 4 PM. 07 Taizhou|Zhejiang Choose two from Tiantai Mountain, Taizhou City, and Shenxianju. Don't try to do too much. ⏰ Shenxianju opens at 7:30 AM. There's no queue at Nantianqiao; otherwise, you'll have to wait an hour. Tickets are 110 yuan, and the round-trip cable car is 120 yuan. Those with average stamina are advised to buy the cable car ticket. 📍 Visit Ziyang Street in Taizhou City in the evening when the lanterns light up. Seaweed pancakes are freshly baked and sold for 2.5 yuan each; eat them while they're hot. 🍜 Linhai "Mai Xia" is a noodle dish, not shrimp. Don't be fooled by the name; a bowl costs 15 yuan and is very fresh. ⚠️ Guoqing Temple on Tiantai Mountain is free but closes at 5 pm, so don't go in the afternoon. 🚄 A taxi from Taizhou West Station to Linhai costs 30 yuan. It takes an hour and a half to get to Shenxianju, so it's recommended to split the trip into two days. Suitable for couples and friends, with many photo opportunities. Shenxianju has visitor limits during Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, so book in advance via their official WeChat account. 08 Tianjin Tianjin is suitable for those who don't want to climb mountains during Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. ⏰ Go to the Five Avenues area in the morning. The area around Minyuan Square, with its plane trees and small Western-style buildings, is best explored by shared bicycle. 📍 Visit the Italian Style Area in the afternoon. The pigeons in Marco Polo Square aren't afraid of people; bring some bread for great photos of feeding them. 🍜 For lunch, go to the alley next to Nanshi Food Street. A jianbing (Chinese crepe) with two eggs costs eight yuan, half the price of the ones in the scenic area. ⚠️ Fantawild Adventure has ridiculously long queues during holidays; popular rides take at least an hour. Bring snacks and patience if you have kids. 🚄 The Olympic Stadium is lit up at night, perfect for a stroll after a meal. A taxi from Five Avenues to the Italian Style Area costs 15 yuan; don't take the horse-drawn carriage, it's over 200 yuan and not worth it. Suitable for the whole family, the pace can be fast or slow. The Tianjin Eye has long queues during Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day; just take a picture from afar. Of these eight places, I most want to revisit Guyuan and Mudanjiang, one for caves and the other for lakes. Pick one that's close to you, don't try to visit too many. Share your Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day plans in the comments! Of these eight places, I most want to revisit Guyuan and Mudanjiang, one for caves and the other for lakes. Pick one that's close to you, don't try to visit too many. Let's discuss where you plan to go during Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day in the comments! Pick one that's close to you, don't try to visit too many. Let's discuss where you plan to go during Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day in the comments!

Don't want to be jostled by crowds over National Day? These 6️⃣ places everyone who's been says they're worth it 01 Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan isn't a single mountain but a Danxia peak forest. Lajiao Peak, Tianyi Alley, and Bajiao Village sell separate tickets, so don't try to do them all in one day. You'll be exhausted. ⏰ Enter Tianyi Alley at 6:30 AM, and you'll have only yourself and the wind in the rock crevice. At the narrowest section, turn sideways; if you're on the larger side, judge for yourself. 📍 To see the whale-like cloud surge from the top of Bajiao Village, wait for clearing after rain—clouds pour up from the valley like boiling water. Approaching from Ziyuan, Guangxi takes less effort, but Hunan's side has wilder scenery. 🍜 After descending, head to Xinning town for duck cooked in blood plasma—duck blood stir-fried with duck meat chunks, unapologetically spicy, best with a bowl of rice noodles to revive you. 🚄 It's about a 2-hour drive from Shaoyang station to Xinning; driving is recommended. ⚠️ During National Day the cable car queue can reach 2 hours. If you're fit, walk up—it's about a 40-minute climb. 02 Hinggan League | Inner Mongolia Arxan National Forest Park is called a mountain, but it mixes volcanoes, a tianchi, hot springs, and grassland. Camelfront Ridge's tianchi requires climbing 900 steps, and the view is worth that one look. ⏰ Arrive at Budong River before 8:00 AM. Morning mist hugs the water and cows cross the river by themselves. An hour later, the light is harsher. 📍 Rhododendron Lake blooms in May; at National Day it's a blue pool surrounded by golden larches. The stone forest is all black volcanic rock that cracks underfoot, like walking on a scorched pan. 🍜 Food in the park is expensive and so-so. Back in Yiershi town, try hand-pulled mutton dipped in chive-flower sauce. 🚄 Ulanhot to Arxan has slow green trains, but the view outside is all forest and meadows. ⚠️ Nights can drop to below freezing at the end of September, so don't skip the down jacket. The forest park ticket is valid for two days—stay inside to explore at a relaxed pace. 03 Ma'anshan | Anhui Caishiji sits by the Yangtze; legend says Li Bai got drunk here trying to scoop the moon. The park is small, but the river breeze relaxes you. ⏰ Head up Cuiluoshan after 4:00 PM; the sun slides into the river and cargo ships drift by like a slow-motion film. 📍 Sanyuan Cave is carved into the cliff; inside you can hear the river hitting the rocks. Taibai Tower has many inscriptions—if you can't read them, look at the eaves. 🍜 After the park, go to Dangtu county for a big bowl of meat noodles—thick noodles, chunky meat, and a slightly sweet broth. 🚄 It's about a 15-minute taxi from Ma'anshan East station. ⚠️ Don't buy "wild river fish" by the river during the closed fishing season—if someone sells it, they're dodgy. The park has many steps and is not stroller-friendly. 04 Ganzi | Sichuan Xinduqiao, Mugecuo, Daocheng Yading, Hailuogou are hundreds of kilometers apart—don't be greedy; pick two and you can play for a week. ⏰ The poplars in Xinduqiao turn fully golden in mid-October. Walking back from Tagong grassland, the whole way is dappled light. For Yading, reach Milk Lake before noon—afternoons change fast. 📍 For Mugecuo's seven-colored lake, taking the boat saves effort. Hailuogou's glacier tongue sits around 3,000 m; take the cable car, don't force a climb. 🍜 In Kangding try yak meat soup with barley cakes. In Daocheng town a local Tibetan restaurant does salty butter tea that's more authentic than the sweet kind. 🚄 There's a bus from Chengdu Xinnanmen station, but driving gives more freedom. ⚠️ Yading tickets plus shuttle are pricey. If your stamina is low, ride a horse, though the horse track only reaches Luorong Pasture. Don't push through altitude sickness—start taking rhodiola in advance. 05 Xi'an | Shaanxi The Terracotta Army, Zhongnan Mountain, the history museum, and the city wall together tell half of China's history. But in National Day Xi'an has more people than the terracotta warriors. ⏰ The Terracotta Army opens at 8:30 AM. Get there for the first wave to avoid crowds at Pit 1 and get a good rail-side view. Book the history museum in advance; if you can't, go to the Stele Forest instead. 📍 Don't only go to South Wutai on Zhongnan Mountain—Cuifengshan's tianchi is quieter. Access the wall from Yongning Gate and rent a bike for a two-hour loop. 🍜 At Saijin Bridge, meatball hu la tang with thick bread is more satisfying than the Muslim Quarter. 🚄 You can reach all sites by metro and bus, but for the Terracotta Army take Tourist Bus 5 and ignore roadside touts. ⚠️ The wall has better light after 5:00 PM, but don't return the bike late. The history museum is closed on Mondays except during the National Day holiday—follow official announcements. 06 Chengde | Hebei The Mountain Resort plus the Outer Eight Temples and Jinshanling Great Wall fit nicely into a two-day trip. The lake area of the resort mimics Jiangnan; take the ring mountain bus in the hills, and walk the plains yourself. ⏰ Enter through Lizheng Gate at 7:00 AM. The lake area still holds morning mist, like walking into a painting. The ring mountain bus starts at 8:30 AM; sit on the right to see the Little Potala Palace. 📍 The thousand-armed Guanyin at Puning Temple is over 20 m tall—your neck will ache looking up. Jinshanling is wilder than Badaling, with grass in the brick joints and climbable beacon towers. 🍜 After the resort, have a bowl of Pingquan mutton soup with sesame flatbread. 🚄 The high-speed train from Beijing to Chengde takes about 1 hour; there are shuttle buses to Jinshanling. ⚠️ The Outer Eight Temples have separate tickets—pick Puning Temple and Puto Zongcheng Temple. The Great Wall cable car lines are long; walking up takes about 40 minutes. 07 Yancheng | Jiangsu The Dafeng milu deer reserve has the world's largest milu herd. It's not a zoo but a wetland—deer roam free and you ride an electric cart to find them. ⏰ Arrive before 9:00 AM for shallow-water grazing close to the boardwalk. At noon they hide in the reeds and you'll only see their backs. 📍 The observation platform gives the best views—bring a telephoto lens. Fengshen Platform has an enclosed area where fawns come close. The electric cart drivers know where the deer are, so be polite when asking. 🍜 In Dafeng city try fish soup noodles—the broth is milky white like milk. 🚄 There's a bus from Yancheng station to Dafeng, but driving is more convenient. ⚠️ Don't feed or chase the deer. The reserve is large, so wear comfortable shoes. Tickets include the electric cart according to official info. 08 Linyi | Shandong The firefly water cave and the underground grand canyon are adjacent, and Yimeng Mountain is another area. The first is caving to see fireflies; the second is hiking to see rocks. ⏰ The firefly cave is entered by boat; it's pitch dark and green lights flash overhead. Don't use your phone—the light will scare them. 📍 The underground canyon's rafting is short but thrilling and will get you wet. Climb to Guimeng Peak on Yimeng Mountain to see the sea of clouds, and in autumn the hills turn red with persimmons. 🍜 In Linyi city, have beef san tang with fried dough sticks. 🚄 It's about a 1.5-hour drive from Linyi North station to Yishui. ⚠️ The firefly cave is cold—bring a jacket. The Yimeng cable car and rafting are charged separately—pick one. Ticket prices and opening rules are subject to official notice on the day. These eight places won't make you feel your travel money was wasted over National Day. Pick one, and save the rest for next time.

Don't want to deal with crowds this National Day? These 8 hidden gem cities can't be kept secret anymore 01 Yanbian | Jilin Go to Yanbian for National Day for that border-town vibe where cold noodles are paired with BBQ and all the signs are bilingual. ⏰ Liuding Mountain Cultural Tourism Zone opens at 8:30 AM. The earlier you go, the quieter it is. Take the sightseeing bus directly to the foot of the Great Buddha to save a 40-minute hike. 📍 A taxi from Dunhua city is about 20 RMB; don't trust the "chartered day tour" touts at the entrance. See the Golden Tripod Buddha, then visit the Bohai Ancient Tombs—two dynasties in one trip. ⚠️ It's windy on the mountain; wearing a thin down jacket in October is no exaggeration, and tie your hat tight or it'll blow away. 🍜 Back in the city, head straight to "Service Building Cold Noodles" for buckwheat noodles in beef soup—about 20 RMB a bowl, a local staple. Stay near Yanji University for convenience, walk to the internet-famous wall for photos, then duck into an alley for charcoal BBQ. You can eat until you're stuffed for about 60 RMB per person. This place is perfect for those who don't want to rush between attractions and just want to eat and sleep well. 02 Anqing | Anhui Anqing has been underrated for too long; the scenery at Tianzhu Mountain is more authentic than many internet-famous mountains. ⏰ I suggest heading up after 2 PM. Tour groups have mostly left, there's no queue for the cable car, and the light hits the ridges at an angle—perfect for photos without fighting for a spot. 📍 Take the direct bus from Tianzhu Mountain Railway Station; don't take a taxi from the city, as you might get taken for a ride. If you're not super fit, take the Dalongwo cable car and hike the Mystery Valley route. The steps are steep but short—you'll reach the top in 1.5 hours. ⚠️ Bottled water on the mountain is 8 RMB, so bring two bottles yourself and use the savings for a bowl of Jiangmao dumplings at the foot of the mountain. After coming down, wander around Daopashi Street. Cafes in old houses and fried skewer stalls create a lively, authentic atmosphere. 🍜 You must try the Anqing fried noodles—the lard flavor is incredible. Great for a 2-day, 1-night trip with parents or friends. 03 Huizhou | Guangdong Huizhou is the kind of city that has both "sea and mountains." If you don't want to just lounge on the beach this National Day, come here. 📍 Rent a bike at West Lake; the loop from Sudi to Sizhou Pagoda takes 40 minutes—easier than walking and more flexible than a boat. Go at 7 AM when local seniors are doing Tai Chi by the lake, before the tourists arrive. Save Luofu Mountain for the second day. ⏰ Get to the mountain before 9 AM; the section from Chongxu Ancient Temple to the Shizifeng cable car is the most comfortable, with plenty of shade. ⚠️ During National Day, parking at Luofu Mountain is a scramble after 2 PM, so arrive early for peace of mind. Xunliao Bay is best in the evening for wading and watching the sunset—don't go swimming, as the waves and undercurrents are strong during the holiday. 🍜 At night, head to Qiaodong Market for "A-Ma Jiao," stuffed tofu, and preserved vegetable pork—three people can eat their fill for 100 RMB. Perfect for families or couples who want a bit of everything. 04 Wenzhou | Zhejiang Wenzhou's charm is half in Yandang Mountain and half in street-side sticky rice. ⏰ Enter the Lingfeng Scenic Area of Yandang Mountain after 4 PM to get both day and night views with one ticket. Wait for it to get dark to see the Hezhang Peak transform into the Couple Peak, saving you the cost of a night tour ticket. 📍 Xianglingtou Village is the base for accommodation, within walking distance of all scenic area entrances. Dalongqiu depends on the season; water levels are average in October, so don't set your expectations too high. ⚠️ Be cautious on the Fangdong plank road if you're afraid of heights—the iron chain bridge sways quite a bit, but the view is worth it. Liu Bowen's hometown is in Wencheng, perfect for a half-day trip; the old houses and temples are very quiet. 🍜 Back in the city, head to Wuma Street for freshly fried lantern cakes and buy a couple of dwarf rice cakes for a snack. Wenzhou is great for those who are fit and love the outdoors without wanting anything too grueling. Hotel prices double during National Day, so book your homestay in Xianglingtou two weeks in advance. 05 Xining | Qinghai Xining is the starting point for the Northwest loop, but the city itself is worth a day. 📍 Enter Ta'er Monastery as soon as it opens at 8 AM; see the Great Golden Tile Hall first, then visit the Butter Sculpture Hall while it's less crowded and the light is good. ⚠️ No photos are allowed inside the halls, and renting an audio guide at the entrance for 20 RMB is more reliable than tagging along with a tour guide. Visit the Dongguan Mosque in the afternoon, just as prayers are ending and the market at the entrance is lively. 🍜 For food, try Mazhong Food Mansion on Mojia Street—hand-grabbed lamb with garlic and a bowl of yak yogurt for a solid 40 RMB meal. ⏰ Head to Nanshan Park at dusk to watch the sunset as the whole city of Xining is bathed in golden light. Xining is at an altitude of 2,200 meters, so don't shower or run around when you first arrive—get some sleep and acclimatize first. It's a great first stop for the Qinghai-Gansu loop, or for lazy travelers who just want to eat lamb and drink yogurt. 06 Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan is in Xinning, Shaoyang. It's not crowded during National Day, and the Danxia landforms are easier to climb than Zhangye's. 📍 Bajiaozhai is the core; head up at 7 AM for a good chance of seeing a sea of clouds, and climb to the stone tablet where you can stand in two provinces at once—Guangxi and Hunan. ⚠️ Don't wear white shoes; the red sandstone will stain them instantly. Chili Peak and Tianyi Lane are on the same route; Tianyi Lane is very narrow, so assess yourself if you're on the heavier side. ⏰ Go rafting on the Fuyi River at 4 PM; the bamboo rafts move slowly, and watching the reflection of the Danxia landforms on both sides is more relaxing than hiking. 🍜 In Xinning county, eat the blood duck—the sauce is spicy enough to make you jump, but you won't be able to stop. Langshan is perfect for hiking enthusiasts; a 2-day, 1-night trip is just right. Cable car queues are long during National Day, so if you're fit enough, hike it yourself to save time. 07 Hezhou | Guangxi Hezhou is a hidden gem in Guangxi, with a "three-piece set": Gupo Mountain, Huangyao Ancient Town, and Dongtanling. 📍 Enter Huangyao Ancient Town before 7 AM for free; the stone paths are damp, the red lanterns are still lit, and there are no other tourists for your photos. ⚠️ Local specialties sold in the ancient town are 30% more expensive than outside, so buy fermented beans at a supermarket in the city. Go to Gupo Mountain in the afternoon; ⏰ the light through the trees is best after 3 PM, and the mist from the Fairy Waterfall is refreshing. Dongtanling is great for sunsets, but the mountain road is narrow, so be careful when passing other cars if you're driving. 🍜 Hezhou's beef intestine sour and oil tea are the soul of the local cuisine—the beef intestine is appetizingly sour, and the oil tea has a sweet aftertaste. Hezhou is best for self-driving as the attractions are scattered and public transport is a hassle. Book your accommodation one kilometer outside Huangyao Ancient Town for National Day to save half the cost and enjoy some quiet. 08 Lingshui | Hainan Lingshui is quieter than Sanya and cheaper than Wanning. 📍 Take the first boat to Fenjiezhou Island; arrive at the pier before 8:30 AM for the clearest water and to see coral while snorkeling. ⚠️ Lockers on the island are 30 RMB, so bring as little as possible. Take the cross-sea cable car to Nanwan Monkey Island; ⏰ the monkeys are most active at 3 PM, but don't hold plastic bags—they really will snatch them. 🍜 Back at Xincun Port, eat Danjia seafood—Hele crab and worm porridge cost just over 100 RMB per person. The sand at Qingshui Bay is as fine as flour; it's perfect for wading in the evening. Lingshui is great for families with kids and couples looking for some peace and quiet. When Sanya hotel prices skyrocket during National Day, you can still find deals here. Renting a car is most convenient, or you can take the high-speed train to Lingshui Station and take a taxi. Of these eight places, Yanbian and Lingshui are the most worth flying to specifically. Where are you planning to go for National Day? Let's chat in the comments, and I'll help you spot the potential pitfalls.

Some places, going alone is just checking off a list; going together is a real trip. Bags get old, shoes wear out, but the memories of these eight places will stay with her for a long time. 01 Shanghai Don't rush to the Bund to squeeze through crowds. The riverside walkway at the Expo Park is basically empty after 3:00 PM on weekdays. When the river breeze blows and her hair brushes against your face, it's more natural than any filter. ⏰ Between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM, the moment the lights on the Lupu Bridge turn on, the surface of the Huangpu River looks like rolling crushed gold. Get to Yu Garden early. 📍 Go to the Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant next to the Nine-Turn Bridge as soon as it opens at 7:30 AM to avoid lines. The crab roe soup dumplings are piping hot, but worth it. ⚠️ Don't go at noon. It's shoulder-to-shoulder and you won't be able to move; she'll definitely get upset. Guangfulin Relics Park is perfect for a slow stroll. In the corridor of the underwater museum, light filters down from above, making for a very serene shot of her from behind. Save Disney for the last day. Don't be greedy; just do one area a day, or she'll get sore feet and you'll get an earful. 🚄 Take Metro Line 11 directly there, and don't miss the last train. 02 Changchun | Jilin I recommend visiting the Museum of the Imperial Palace of the Manchu State in the morning. The window frames of the Tongde Hall slice the light into pieces; she can just stand there, and you won't need to tell her how to pose. ⚠️ It's closed on Mondays, so don't make a wasted trip. Check the official daily announcement for ticket information, and rent an audio guide, otherwise you're just rushing through. Changchun World Sculpture Park is bigger than you'd think. 📍 The bronze sculptures in front of the Africa Pavilion look best in the side lighting at 4:00 PM. Rent a tandem bike; if she can't pedal, you'll have to push. Don't ask me how I know. Pick and choose which attractions to visit at Changchun Movie Wonderland; don't buy an all-inclusive ticket. Save Jingyuetan for dusk; ⏰ after 5:00 PM, rent a small boat and row to the center of the lake—it'll just be the two of you on the water. 🍜 In the evening, head back to the city for the old-fashioned sweet and sour pork (Guo Bao Rou) on Guilin Road. She'll definitely take photos of it. 03 Xiangyang | Hubei Don't treat Ancient Longzhong like a regular park. Take the sightseeing bus up the mountain as soon as you enter to save your energy for the stone steps at the Three Visits Hall. 📍 In the bamboo forest next to the Caolu Pavilion, the rustling sound of the wind will naturally make her lower her voice. ⚠️ Don't follow the "tour guides" soliciting business at the entrance during peak season; book official guides at the visitor center. I recommend entering at 8:30 AM; after 10:00 AM, the tour groups arrive, and all your photos will just be the backs of people's heads. 🍜 On the street to the right of the exit, get Xiangyang beef noodles with yellow rice wine—a solid meal for CNY 15. If she thinks it's too spicy, just swap bowls with her. 04 Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan is the kind of place where "photos don't capture even a tenth of its beauty." For the Whale Sea viewing platform at Bajiaozhai, ⏰ you only get a sea of clouds when it clears up after rain, so don't sleep in—get to the top before 6:00 AM. Chili Peak is best climbed in the afternoon, when the light hits the Danxia cliffs, making them glow red. ⚠️ Wear non-slip shoes; the stone steps have moss. If she wears white sneakers, you'll both regret it. 📍 At the narrowest part of Tianyi Lane, you have to turn sideways to pass. If she walks in front and you protect her from behind, it's more sincere than any sweet talk. 🚄 Take the high-speed rail from Changsha to Shaoyang and then transfer; allow three hours. 05 Qingdao | Shandong Don't try to do all of Laoshan. Take the Yangkou line to the end of the cable car, then walk for 20 minutes to the Mietian Cave; when you crawl out, it's the sea. ⏰ Before 10:00 AM, the fog hasn't cleared yet, and the mountains and sea blend together—she can just stand there, no editing needed. You need to catch the low tide at Zhanqiao. 📍 Flip over rocks for little crabs in the reef area to the left of Huilan Pavilion; the moment she squats down, she'll look just like a little kid. ⚠️ You must leave 20 minutes before high tide; don't linger. Save the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center for the evening; walk along the wooden boardwalk after the Lover's Dam lighthouse lights up. 🍜 For dinner, go to that old shop on Taidong 8th Road for spicy stir-fried clams and draft beer; she'll smile after just one sip. 06 Yuxi | Yunnan The water in Fuxian Lake is unbelievably clear. 📍 Under that big banyan tree in the Lucheng Scenic Area, the light filters through the leaves at 3:00 PM; if she sits on the swing, any photo you take will look like a blockbuster. ⏰ From late April to May, the jacaranda trees along the lake bloom into a purple mist. For the winding mountain road in Ailao Mountain, take motion sickness medicine in advance. ⚠️ Don't go up the mountain in the afternoon; the fog comes out of nowhere, and visibility drops to five meters. 🍜 The beef soup pot in Gasa Town at the foot of the mountain—the mint dipping sauce is the soul of the dish. Renting a car to drive around the lake is the most comfortable way; don't rush between attractions. If she wants to stop and take photos, just stop—the lake isn't going anywhere. 07 Harbin | Heilongjiang Don't go to the Harbin Ice and Snow World at noon. ⏰ Enter the park at 3:00 PM, play on the big slide first, and wait until it gets dark and all the ice lanterns are lit—that's the real show. ⚠️ Stick a hand warmer to your phone, otherwise it'll shut down in three minutes, and if she starts crying from the cold, you'll be in even worse trouble. Volga Manor is best for the next morning; it's less crowded, and the snow in front of the Petrov Art Palace will be untouched. 📍 At the St. Sophia Cathedral square, when the pigeons take flight, keep shooting in burst mode. 🍜 Eat the Modern Hotel popsicle outside on Central Street; it's too warm inside to really enjoy it. If she complains about the cold, take off your scarf and give it to her. 08 Qiannan | Guizhou Libo Zhangjiang needs two days. Half a day for Daqikong, a full day for Xiaoqikong. 📍 At the curved dam of Wolong Pond, ⏰ the water is as smooth as a mirror before 9:00 AM; after 10:00 AM, it's all ripples from tour boats. ⚠️ Entering from the East Gate and exiting from the West Gate of Xiaoqikong is downhill and saves effort. Don't go the other way, or you'll be climbing stairs until you question your life choices. 🍜 The tofu grilled fish in Libo Ancient Town—the fish is from the Zhangjiang River and is so tender you can barely pick it up with chopsticks. If she likes water, stay an extra half day. You can wade through the Water Forest; bring an old pair of shoes, don't wear sandals, the rocks are sharp. The three most worth visiting are: watching the clouds at Langshan, zoning out at Fuxian Lake, and wading in the water at Libo. For the rest, pick the week of her birthday to go—it'll be more effective than any gift.

Off-peak travel in September–October: 6 places with fewer crowds and great scenery 1️⃣ Shaoyang | Hunan Visiting Langshan this season is one of the three most comfortable windows of the year. ⏰ Enter Bajiaozhai before 8:00 AM; the sea of clouds hasn't dissipated yet, the crowds haven't surged, and cable car lines are usually under 10 minutes. I recommend visiting Lajiaofeng and Tianyixiang on the same afternoon. Tianyixiang's narrowest point requires turning sideways to pass; if you're a bit larger, please use your own judgment, and it's best to take off your backpack and carry it in your hand beforehand. ⚠️ The stone steps are slippery after rain, so don't wear flat-soled sneakers. 📍 It takes about 20 minutes by taxi from Xinning County to the North Gate; staying in the county is half the price of staying at the scenic area entrance, and you can go to the old street in the evening for a bowl of blood duck with rice noodles. If you're traveling with seniors, just do the Camel Peak loop; don't force the full route. In October, Langshan navel oranges are just starting to fruit; the ones picked fresh from roadside orchards are sweeter than those sold in the scenic area, and the prices are reasonable. 2️⃣ Guiyang | Guizhou I recommend splitting these spots around Guiyang into two days; trying to cram them into one will exhaust you. ⏰ Go to Tianhetan in the morning; the lighting is best during the boat ride in the water cave, and you'll be out of the scenic area before noon. Visit Qingyan Ancient Town in the afternoon, but avoid the weekend. 🍜 Rose candy and "zhuangyuan" trotters are everywhere, but I only swear by the braised pig trotters from that shop in the back street that's been open for over a decade—the dipping sauce is the soul of the dish. ⚠️ The main street of the ancient town is very commercialized; the alleys toward the West Gate are quieter and better for photos. Save Gaopo Yunding Grassland for the evening; ⏰ arrive an hour before sunset. It's windy enough to blow your hat off, so bring a jacket. Huaxi Park is great for a morning stroll; it's where locals exercise, and there's no admission fee. 🚄 Driving is the most convenient way to visit these spots; public transport transfers will eat up half your day. For families, prioritize Tianhetan and Huaxi Park; pushing a stroller on the stone paths of Qingyan is difficult. 3️⃣ Sanming | Fujian The essence of Dajin Lake is on the water, not on the shore. ⏰ I recommend catching the first boat in the morning; when the lake is misty, it looks like an ink painting, but it becomes ordinary once the sun hits it after 10:00 AM. 📍 The pillar of Ganlu Rock Temple is wedged into a rock crevice—a rare sight that's disappearing, which the boat guide will mention. ⚠️ There are different boat routes; ask clearly if Ganlu Rock Temple is included before buying your ticket so you don't get misled by low-priced tickets. Save Taining Ancient Town for the evening. The old houses in the Shangshudi area are worth a slow walk; the blue bricks and wood carvings are better preserved than in many "internet-famous" ancient towns. 🍜 For dinner, look for "nuangu" buns and "biyu" rolls in the ancient town—they're local snacks. Don't eat at the first shop you see at the scenic area entrance. 🚄 It's about a 10-minute taxi ride from Taining Station to the ancient town. A two-day, one-night trip is just right; a one-day round trip is too rushed. There's less rain in September and October, and visibility in the lake area is high, making it perfect for photos. 4️⃣ Wuhu | Anhui I have to be honest about Fantawild: there are many attractions, but it's unrealistic to do them all in one day. ⏰ Head straight for the popular attractions when the park opens; wait times double after noon. For families with children, prioritize Oriental Heritage and Dreamland; the former focuses on traditional Chinese-style performances, while the latter has gentler attractions. Young people should head straight to Adventure World. ⚠️ Thrill rides have height restrictions, so check the official website in advance so you don't arrive only to find your child can't ride. 📍 The park is large, so rent a scooter to save your legs. 🍜 Food inside the park is expensive and average; I recommend leaving the park to eat shrimp roe noodles and soup dumplings in the city, which is a 20-minute taxi ride away. It's not too sunny in September and October, so waiting in line isn't as agonizing—it's much more comfortable than during summer vacation. 🚄 It's about a 30-minute taxi ride from Wuhu Station to Fantawild; you can take a bus, but it's slow. Staying in the city is more cost-effective, and you can stroll around Jinghu Lake in the evening. 5️⃣ Karamay | Xinjiang Urho Ghost City has an intimidating name, and the scenery is truly awe-inspiring. ⏰ It's best to enter after 4:00 PM; the light hits the yardangs at an angle, bringing out layers of color. Going at noon just looks stark white. 📍 The scenic area uses sightseeing buses to connect several viewing platforms; don't think about hiking the whole way—you'll regret walking for two hours in the Gobi Desert. ⚠️ The wind is strong enough to push you around, so hold onto your hat and scarf, and protect your camera from sand. This isn't the place to wear a dress for photos; honestly, the wind will just mess everything up. It's suitable for those who love a sense of vastness and geological wonders. 🍜 Return to Karamay city for big plate chicken and baked buns; order by the number of people, don't over-order. In September and October, daytime temperatures are around 20°C, with a temperature difference of over 10°C between morning and night; a windbreaker over a short-sleeved shirt is the standard outfit. 🚄 It's about 100 km from the city to the Ghost City; drive yourself or hire a car. There are few gas stations on the way, so fill up before you leave. 6️⃣ Linyi | Shandong Firefly Water Cave and the Underground Grand Canyon are next to each other and can be visited in one day. ⏰ Go to the Underground Grand Canyon in the morning; the cave has a constant temperature, so it's cool inside no matter how hot it is outside—bring a light jacket. ⚠️ You'll get splashed during the boat ride in the cave, so put your phone in a waterproof bag. The highlight of Firefly Water Cave is the darkness; don't use your flash—it harms the fireflies and won't result in good photos anyway. Go to Yimeng Mountain in the afternoon. 📍 Choose either the Guimeng or Yunmeng scenic area; don't try to do both. The view of the sunset from Guimeng Peak is great, but the climb is strenuous—seniors and children should take the cable car. 🍜 After coming down the mountain, go to the city for "sa" soup with fried dough sticks; it's a local breakfast, but it's actually sold all day. 🚄 It's within a one-hour drive from Linyi North Station to each scenic area. In September and October, the red leaves in the mountains are just starting; late October is the peak, so wait a bit longer if you want to see the colors. 7️⃣ Baise | Guangxi Water quality is the biggest selling point of these three spots in Baise. I recommend staying one night at Haokun Lake; ⏰ in the early morning, the lake surface is as calm as a mirror, and before the boaters come out, those 30 minutes are worth the price of admission. A trip through Tongling Grand Canyon takes about three hours; 📍 there's a lot of mist from the waterfall at the bottom of the canyon, and the stone steps are slippery—⚠️ wear non-slip shoes, don't wear white sneakers. The canyon is cool and acts as natural air conditioning; it's even better in summer, but there are fewer people in September and October. Chengbi Lake is suitable for the afternoon; you can cycle around the lake or just find a spot on the shore to relax. 🍜 In Baise city, try the rolled rice noodles and "suanye" (pickled fruit/vegetables); if it's your first time eating "suanye", take a small amount—it's sour enough to make you frown. 🚄 The three spots are scattered, so driving is most convenient; public transport will take up too much time. It's suitable for people who like landscapes and aren't in a rush. The water level is still stable in October; later on, there's less rain, and the waterfalls will be thinner. 8️⃣ Yinchuan | Ningxia This route in Yinchuan is half water and half mountains and tombs. ⏰ Go to Mingcui Lake in the morning; migratory birds are starting to increase in the reed marshes, so bring binoculars for birdwatching. ⚠️ There are still mosquitoes in the wetlands in September, so bring insect repellent. Go to Helan Mountain Rock Art in the afternoon; 📍 the Sun God rock art is the signature piece. Don't just take photos—the explanatory signs are worth reading. The rock art is outdoors and sunny, so bring a hat and water. I recommend splitting Lingwu Shuidonggou and the Western Xia Imperial Tombs into two days. Shuidonggou has canyons and hidden military tunnels, which take about half a day to walk through. The rammed-earth tomb platforms of the Western Xia Imperial Tombs look best at dusk; ⏰ the light is best for photos an hour before closing. 🍜 Try the hand-grabbed lamb and lamb offal soup in the city; don't eat near the scenic areas. 🚄 Drive or hire a car between the spots; public transport coverage is limited. September and October have high, clear skies and are the most comfortable time of year in Yinchuan. Check the official daily announcements for ticket prices and opening hours of the Western Xia Imperial Tombs. Of these six places, the ones I personally want to visit again are Langshan and Haokun Lake—one for hiking and one for water views. Going off-peak means fewer crowds, and the experience is twice as good. Which one are you planning to hit first?

Hey everyone! Stop going to Zhangjiajie and dealing with the crowds! 😱 This Langshan in Shaoyang is the real "Red Rock Version of a Xianxia World" 💯 The crisp autumn weather is the perfect time to visit! Chili Peak, First Alley Under Heaven, Fuyi River Bamboo Raft... Every step feels like traveling into a Xianxia drama set. Anything you snap with your phone looks like a blockbuster photo 📸✨ 📍1 Chili Peak · Camel Peak Beside Langshan Avenue, Langshan Town, Xinning County A giant rock that really looks like an upside-down chili pepper 🌶️. From the side, it looks like a camel lying down. When the light hits it, the sense of scale is truly imposing! Route: Scenic area shuttle > Chili Peak Plaza > Forest trail to Camel Peak Observation Deck (Pro tip: The red staircase with the mountain view is super photogenic!) 📍2 First Alley Under Heaven Inside Langshan Scenic Area (between Bajiaozhai and Chili Peak areas) Two walls sandwiching the sky; the narrowest part really requires you to turn sideways to pass! Look up and you see a sliver of sky. Even introverts will find it thrilling 😆 Route: Alley entrance > Uphill boardwalk > Exit to sightseeing shuttle ❌ Key point: Don't wear a skirt that's too wide. Don't ask me how I know! 📍3 Bajiaozhai Border of Xinning County and Ziyuan County, Guangxi; the highest point of Langshan The famous "Whale in the Sea of Clouds" scene ☁️. The chances of seeing it on an autumn morning are super high! Standing at the top of the fortress, you feel like you're stepping on the back of a Danxia whale. This experience is incredible! Route: Cable car up/Trail up > Longtouxiang > Yuntai Observation Deck > Wait for the light (Recommend waking up early! Morning mist + sea of clouds = legendary social media material 🤫) 📍4 Fuyi River Bamboo Raft Downstream section of Fuyi River in the scenic area Clear water winding around red cliffs, bamboo rafts drifting slowly, local women singing folk songs. This blend of Jiangnan and Western Hunan vibes is absolutely amazing 🛶 What you see with your own eyes: rivers, bamboo rafts, and tour boats, just like walking out of a painting! Route: Shuixi Pier > Rafting section > Go ashore and walk the rural village path 🗺️ Recommended Itinerary: Day 1: Xinning County > Chili Peak > First Alley Under Heaven (Stay in Langshan Town) Day 2: Bajiaozhai for morning mist > Fuyi River Bamboo Raft > Return trip 💡 Tips: · Outfit: White/off-white/navy blue are the best. Don't wear all red; it clashes with the Danxia colors and looks messy! · Time: October–November is the most comfortable. Not too hot or cold, and the sea of clouds and sunset are both spectacular!

Transportation: Attractions in Hunan are very scattered, strongly recommend chartering a car or self-driving. High-speed rail to and from Changsha is convenient. 2. Temperature difference: Large temperature difference between day and night in mountainous areas. Bring a thick jacket when going to Mount Heng/Mangshan. 3. Avoiding traps: Don't pay attention to people soliciting boat rides in Fenghuang Ancient Town. For Chayan Yuese in Changsha, order directly via the official mini-program to avoid waiting in vain. 4. Clothing: Lots of hiking, must wear non-slip and comfortable sports shoes. 5. Time: Don't cram 4 spots into one day, you'll be exhausted from traveling. Arrange at most 2–3 spots a day, slow down and enjoy. 🙏 A wonderful encounter with magical Hunan awaits—start planning your trip now!

Don't rush when traveling with your parents! Explore these 6️⃣ cities at a leisurely pace. 01 Quzhou | Zhejiang What's the biggest fear when traveling with parents? Steps, queues, and walking 20,000 steps a day. Quzhou is the opposite: the attractions are spread out, there aren't many people, and you can control your own pace. 📍 Kaihua Root Palace Buddhist Culture Area: Primarily indoors, with chairs readily available for rest. The root carvings are large, appealing and understandable to parents' generation. ⏰ It's recommended to arrive before 9 AM, before tour groups arrive, allowing for better photo opportunities. Jianglang Mountain and Ershibadu can be visited on the same day. Should you climb the mountain first or explore the ancient town first? My answer is Jianglang Mountain first. In the morning, when energy levels are high, the narrow steps at Yixiantian (One Line Sky) can be walked slowly, with elderly people holding onto the railings. In the afternoon, visit Ershibadu; the old streets are gentle, and you can leisurely explore the tofu workshop and blacksmith shop. 🚄 It takes about an hour to drive from Quzhou Station to Jianglang Mountain. It's recommended to hire a car or drive yourself, as public transportation transfers are not ideal for seniors. ⚠️ Jianglang Mountain undergoes maintenance in some areas on Mondays; check official announcements before you go. 🍜 The copper gong cake and swallow skin wontons in Ershibadu are worth trying, but don't eat at the first shop near the entrance; walk about 50 meters further in for more reasonable prices. For accommodation, choose Quzhou city proper; there are many chain hotels, and you can take a walk in the Shuitingmen Old Street in the evening to digest your meal. 02 Shaoyang|Hunan Langshan is not as famous as Zhangjiajie, but it's less crowded, has gentler roads, and delicious stir-fried pork with chili peppers. Bringing seniors here is all about avoiding the crowds. Bajiaozhai and Tianyi Lane are two separate routes. Tianyi Lane is narrow; you have to squeeze through at the narrowest point. Seniors with knee problems are advised to only walk the first half. Take the cable car up to Bajiaozhai; the mountaintop loop is gentle, offering views of the Danxia landforms resembling a red sea of peaks. ⏰ The best time to visit is the day after the rain. The mountainside is shrouded in mist, making for great photos. However, the steps are slippery, so bring non-slip shoes for your parents; avoid flat cloth shoes. 📍 Local aunties sell navel oranges at the scenic area entrance; three jin for ten yuan, they're sweet. ⚠️ The cable car stops operating at 4:30 PM, so don't rush up the mountain right on time. Staying in Xinning County is a better option; it's a 20-minute drive to the scenic area in the morning. It's more comfortable than staying in a guesthouse at the foot of the mountain. 🍜 For dinner, try the blood-braised duck in the county town; it's slightly spicy, and the duck meat is tender enough for older people to chew. Langshan is suitable for parents who are still relatively mobile; the entire hike takes about three hours, with several rest stops along the way. 03 Qujing|Yunnan Luoping's rapeseed flower fields and Jiulong Waterfall Group are both stunning. One turns golden in February, the other has water year-round. Choosing the right season is half the battle won if you bring your parents. ⏰ The best time to visit is from mid-February to early March for the rapeseed flowers. Arrive at the Jinji Peak viewing platform before 7 AM. The morning mist and flower fields will encourage your parents to take photos. The midday light is harsh and less flattering. Return to the county town for lunch and a rest. The Jiulong Waterfall group has many steps, but you can take a cable car up and down. Elderly people can simply walk along the gentle boardwalk at the base of the waterfalls, enjoying the water and breeze; half an hour is enough. ⚠️ The area around the waterfalls is very misty and the ground is wet, so hold onto the railings. 🚄 There are tourist trains from Kunming to Luoping, taking about two hours, which is more stable than buses. 🍜 The steamed rice noodles and pickled cabbage with pig's feet in the county town are tender and flavorful, suitable for elderly people with weaker teeth. Stay in Luoping county town, not in the farmhouses in the flower fields; they are cold at night and have low water pressure for showers. Two days and one night is just right: the first day in the flower fields, the second day at the waterfalls, and the return trip in the afternoon. 04 Linfen|Shanxi This route is packed with information, but the pace is well-controlled. Hongtong Big Pagoda Tree, Hukou Waterfall, and Yunqiu Mountain – three places, three different experiences. Parents' generation has a strong attachment to tracing their roots. 📍 Hongtong Big Pagoda Tree Ancestral Worship Park: Enter as soon as it opens at 8 AM. Inside the ancestral hall, you can look up your surname's memorial tablet. Elders standing before their own surname's tablet will often have tears in their eyes. ⚠️ The electric carts inside the park are charged separately; those with mobility issues should use them, don't force yourself. Go to Hukou Waterfall in the afternoon. ⏰ After 3 PM, the sunlight is oblique, and rainbows are more likely to appear in the mist. The viewing platform on the west side of the mountain is close to the waterfall, but it's windy, so bring a scarf for your mother. 🚄 The drive from Linfen to Hukou is about two hours. It's recommended to join a day tour; changing buses yourself is too much trouble. Save Yunqiu Mountain for the second day. The stone houses in Talpo Ancient Village are well-preserved, and the paths are flat, suitable for a leisurely walk. Wear warm clothing to the ice caves. Elderly people should proceed with caution, as it can get below freezing inside; stay for about ten minutes. 🍜 Linfen beef meatball noodles: the meatballs are soft, the broth is rich, and ask the owner to reduce the spiciness. Stay in Linfen city; split the three attractions into two days, don't cram them all into one. 05 Chongzuo|Guangxi Detian Transnational Waterfall and Mingshi Pastoral Area: one dynamic, one tranquil. When bringing parents, the key is not to try to see everything; one attraction per day is enough. Go to Detian Waterfall in the morning for higher water volume and better lighting. ⏰ Arrive before 11 am to take a bamboo raft close to the waterfall. Your mother will laugh and dodge the splashing water. ⚠️ Buy bamboo raft tickets and entrance tickets separately. Book in advance through official channels; otherwise, you'll be stuck in line on-site. Go to Mingshi Pastoral Area in the afternoon. Rent an electric cart and drive slowly, or take a bamboo raft for a short ride. 📍 At the Mingshi Bridge, take silhouette photos against the light at dusk. Have your parents stand on the paddy field ridge while you snap the pictures. 🍜 Try Chongzuo's sour porridge and roast suckling pig. The sour porridge has a unique flavor; try a small portion first. Stay in a guesthouse in the Mingshi countryside; it's quiet at night, and you can see the mountains from your window in the morning. 🚄 The high-speed train from Nanning to Chongzuo takes half an hour, then you can hire a car to the attractions—more comfortable than taking a bus the whole way. This route is suitable for parents with limited mobility who enjoy mountain and water scenery. There's no uphill climbing, and seats are available every few steps. 06 Turpan | Xinjiang The Flaming Mountains, Kumtag Desert, and Turpan city may sound hot, but if you choose the right time, it's actually very comfortable. Bring elderly people; go out in the early morning or late evening, and avoid the midday sun. Arrive at the Flaming Mountains before 9 am, before the temperature rises, take photos, and leave. ⏰ Don't go at midday; the surface temperature can reach 60 degrees Celsius, which the elderly may not be able to handle. 📍 Take a picture of the giant thermometer in the scenic area; no need to linger. Enter the Kumtag Desert after 6 PM. Ride camels or take a desert vehicle to the top of the dunes to watch the sunset. ⚠️ The sand is scorching hot; dress your parents in thick-soled shoes, not sandals. In the evening, stroll through Grape Valley in Turpan city; it's cool under the trellises, and you can sample grapes freely. 🍜 For hand-pulled rice and baked buns in the city, choose popular restaurants. Stay in Turpan city, not near the desert, as the water pressure for showers is unstable at night. 🚄 The high-speed train from Urumqi to Turpan takes one hour; hire a car between attractions. This itinerary is suitable for healthy, early-rising seniors. Two days and one night, a relaxed pace. 07 Yanbian|Jilin Liudingshan Cultural Tourism Area: quiet, open, and with few steps. When bringing parents to Yanbian, the focus isn't on rushing through attractions, but on eating and resting. 📍 Visit Liuding Mountain in the morning. The view from the foot of the Golden Buddha is expansive, and the elderly can easily walk up. ⏰ Arrive before 9 am; the morning mist hasn't dissipated yet, resulting in clear photos. ⚠️ The scenic area's electric shuttle bus costs extra, but it's recommended to take it to save energy. After descending the mountain, go to Dunhua city for cold noodles and rice cakes. 🍜 The cold noodles are sweet and sour; the elderly might not like it, so order a bowl to share. The rice cakes are soft and chewy, and most people love them. Yanbian is suitable for a two-night stay. Spend the first day at Liuding Mountain, and the second day exploring the morning markets in Dunhua or Yanji, buying some pollack and kimchi to take away. 🚄 Yanji has a high-speed rail station; it's a two-hour journey from Changchun. This route is suitable for parents who prefer peace and quiet and don't enjoy hiking. Autumn is the best time to visit, with vibrant autumn colors and mild temperatures. 08 Hulunbuir | Inner Mongolia The vast grasslands hold a special place in the hearts of our parents' generation. However, the grassland route is long, so it's best not to drive the entire way with elderly relatives. Instead, hire a car for a section to explore at a slower pace. ⏰ From July to mid-August, the grass is at its greenest. Starting from Hailar, take the route from Ergun to Heishantou. The scenery is concentrated, and the driving time should be kept under three hours per day. 📍 The Morigele River viewing platform offers stunning views in the afternoon light, making the river appear like a ribbon. Parents can stand there for hours without getting bored. ⚠️ The temperature difference between day and night on the grasslands is significant. Wear a light down jacket at night, not just short sleeves. 🍜 For hand-pulled mutton, choose lamb; the meat is tender and easy for the elderly to chew. The milk tea is salty, so try a small bowl first. When staying in a yurt in Heishantou, choose one with a private bathroom; don't opt for a cheaper shared room. 🚄 Hailar has an airport and a train station; hire a car upon arrival. This itinerary is suitable for families with ample time and a relaxed pace. Five days and four nights is just right; don't compress it into three days, as it can be tiring for the elderly to travel by car. Slow travel doesn't mean walking less; it means giving time to the scenery. Of these six cities, Quzhou and Chongzuo are the least physically demanding, while Linfen and Turpan offer the most information. Choose one and stay two nights with your parents—it's better than rushing through three attractions. Take your parents out without rushing; these 6️⃣ cities offer a leisurely and relaxing experience. 01 Quzhou | Zhejiang What's the biggest fear when traveling with parents? Steps, queues, and walking 20,000 steps a day. Quzhou is the opposite: the attractions are spread out, there aren't many people, and you can control your own pace. 📍 Kaihua Root Palace Buddhist Culture Area: Primarily indoors, with chairs available whenever you get tired. The root carvings are large, appealing and enjoyable for your parents' generation. ⏰ It's recommended to arrive before 9 AM, before tour groups arrive, so you don't have to fight for a good spot for photos. If you're planning to visit Jianglang Mountain and Ershibadu on the same day, should you climb the mountain first or explore the ancient town first? My answer is Jianglang Mountain first. In the morning, if you're energetic, you can slowly climb the narrow steps of Yixiantian (One Line Sky), and elderly people can hold onto the railings without much problem. In the afternoon, head to Ershibadu. The old street is gentle, and you can leisurely explore the tofu workshop and blacksmith shop. 🚄 It takes about an hour to get from Quzhou Station to Jianglang Mountain. I recommend hiring a car or driving yourself, as public transportation is not very convenient for the elderly. ⚠️ Jianglang Mountain undergoes maintenance in some areas on Mondays. Check the official announcement before you go. 🍜 The copper gong cake and swallow skin wontons in Ershibadu are worth trying, but don't eat at the first shop at the entrance. Walk about 50 meters further in; the prices are more reasonable. Choose to stay in Quzhou city proper; there are many chain hotels, and you can take a walk in the Shuitingmen Old Street in the evening to digest your food. 02 Shaoyang|Hunan Langshan is not as famous as Zhangjiajie, but it has the advantage of fewer people, gentler roads, and fragrant stir-fried pork with chili peppers. Bringing elderly people here is all about avoiding crowds. Bajiaozhai and Tianyi Lane are two separate routes. Tianyi Lane is narrow; at its narrowest point, you have to squeeze through sideways. Elderly people with knee problems are advised to only walk the first half. Take the cable car up to Bajiaozhai; the mountaintop loop is gentle, offering views of the Danxia landforms resembling a red sea of waves. ⏰ The day after a rain is the best time to visit. The clouds and mist clinging to the mountainside make for great photos. However, the steps are slippery, so make sure your parents wear non-slip shoes, not flat cloth shoes. 📍 There are local aunties selling navel oranges at the scenic area entrance; three jin for ten yuan, they're sweet. ⚠️ The cable car stops operating at 4:30 PM, so don't rush up the mountain right on time. Staying in Xinning County is a 20-minute drive to the scenic area in the morning, and the accommodations are better than staying in a guesthouse at the foot of the mountain. 🍜 For dinner, try the blood-braised duck in the county town; it's slightly spicy, the duck meat is stewed until tender, and the elderly can easily chew it. Langshan is suitable for parents who are still relatively agile. The entire hike takes about three hours, with several rest stops along the way. 03 Qujing | Yunnan Luoping's rapeseed flower fields and Jiulong Waterfall Group are both excellent choices. One turns golden in February, while the other has water year-round. Choosing the right season is half the battle when bringing your parents. ⏰ The best time to visit for rapeseed flowers is from mid-February to early March. Arrive at the Jinji Peak viewing platform before 7:00 AM. The morning mist combined with the flower fields will encourage your parents to take photos. The harsh midday light is less flattering. Return to the town for lunch and a rest. Jiulong Waterfall Group has many steps, but you can take a cable car up and down. Elderly people can simply walk along the gentle boardwalk at the base of the waterfall, enjoying the view and breeze; half an hour is enough. ⚠️ The area around the waterfall is very misty and the ground is wet, so hold onto the railings. 🚄 There are tourist trains from Kunming to Luoping, taking about two hours and are more stable than buses. 🍜 The steamed rice noodles and pickled cabbage with pig's feet in the county town are tender and flavorful, perfect for elderly people with weaker teeth. Stay in Luoping County town, but avoid the farmhouses in the flower fields; they get cold at night and the shower water pressure is low. Two days and one night is just right: the first day at the flower fields, the second day at the waterfall, and the return trip in the afternoon without rushing. 04 Linfen|Shanxi This itinerary is packed with information, but the pace is well-controlled. Hongtong Big Locust Tree, Hukou Waterfall, and Yunqiu Mountain offer three distinct experiences. Parents' generation has a strong attachment to tracing their roots. 📍 Hongtong Big Locust Tree Ancestral Worship Park: Enter as soon as it opens at 8 am. Inside the ancestral hall, you can look up your surname's memorial tablet. Elderly people standing before their own surname's tablet will often have tears in their eyes. ⚠️ The electric carts inside the park are charged separately; those with mobility issues should use them, but don't force yourself. Go to Hukou Waterfall in the afternoon. ⏰ After 3 PM, the sunlight shines obliquely, making rainbows more likely to appear in the mist. The viewing platform on the west side of the mountain is close to the waterfall, but it's windy, so bring a scarf for your mother. 🚄 The drive from Linfen to Hukou Waterfall is about two hours. It's recommended to join a day tour; changing buses yourself is too much of a hassle. Save Yunqiu Mountain for the second day. The stone houses in Talpo Ancient Village are well-preserved, and the paths are flat, suitable for a leisurely walk. Wear warm clothing for the ice caves; elderly people should proceed with caution, as it's several degrees below zero inside, and you'll only stay for about ten minutes. 🍜 Try Linfen beef ball noodles; the balls are soft, and the broth is rich. Ask the owner to add less chili. Stay in Linfen city; split the three attractions into two days, don't cram them into one. 05 Chongzuo|Guangxi Detian Transnational Waterfall and Mingshi Pastoral Area offer contrasting views, one dynamic and the other tranquil. When bringing parents, the key is not to try to see everything; one attraction per day is enough. Go to Detian Waterfall in the morning for the best water volume and lighting. ⏰ Arrive before 11 AM, take a bamboo raft close to the waterfall, get splashed in the face, and Mom will laugh and dodge. ⚠️ Buy bamboo raft tickets and entrance tickets separately, book in advance through official channels, and queue on-site. Visit Mingshi Pastoral Area in the afternoon. Rent an electric cart for a leisurely ride, or take a bamboo raft for a short distance. 📍 At the rice paddies near Mingshi Bridge, take silhouette photos against the light at dusk. Parents can stand on the paddy ridge while you take the pictures. 🍜 Try Chongzuo's sour porridge and roast suckling pig. The sour porridge has a unique flavor; try a small portion first. Stay in a guesthouse in Mingshi Pastoral Area; it's quiet at night, and you can see the mountains from your window in the morning. 🚄 The high-speed train from Nanning to Chongzuo takes half an hour, then you can hire a car to the attractions, which is more comfortable than taking a bus the whole way. This route is suitable for parents with average mobility who enjoy mountain and water scenery. There's no uphill climbing, and seats are available every few steps. 06 Turpan | Xinjiang Flaming Mountains, Kumtag Desert, Turpan City – it sounds hot, but if you choose the right time, it's actually quite comfortable. If you're bringing elderly people, go out in the early morning or late evening, avoiding the midday sun. Arrive at the Flaming Mountains before 9 AM, before the temperature rises, take photos, and leave quickly. ⏰ Avoid going at midday; the surface temperature can reach 60 degrees Celsius, which is too much for the elderly. 📍 Take a picture of the giant thermometer in the scenic area; don't linger. 🍜 For hand-pulled rice and baked buns in the city, choose restaurants with many people. Stay in Turpan city, not near the desert, as the water pressure for showers is unstable at night. 🚄 The high-speed train from Urumqi to Turpan takes one hour, and you can hire a car between attractions. This route is suitable for healthy seniors who can get up early. A two-day, one-night trip offers a relaxed pace. 07 Yanbian|Jilin Liudingshan Cultural Tourism Area: quiet, spacious, and with few steps. When bringing parents to Yanbian, the focus isn't on rushing through attractions, but on eating and resting. 📍 Go to Liudingshan in the morning. The view from the foot of the Golden Buddha is expansive, and seniors can easily walk up. ⏰ Arrive before 9 am; the morning mist hasn't dissipated yet, resulting in clear photos. ⚠️ The scenic area's electric shuttle bus costs extra, but it's recommended to take it to save energy. After descending the mountain, go to Dunhua city to eat cold noodles and rice cakes. 🍜 The cold noodles are sweet and sour; seniors might not like it, so order a bowl to share first. The rice cakes are soft and chewy, and most people love them. A two-night stay is recommended in Yanbian. Day 1: Liuding Mountain. Day 2: Visit the morning markets in Dunhua or Yanji, buying some pollack and kimchi to take home. 🚄 Yanji has a high-speed rail station; it's a two-hour journey from Changchun. This route is suitable for parents who prefer tranquility and don't enjoy hiking. Autumn is the best time to visit, when the forests are ablaze with color and the weather is pleasantly mild. 08 Hulunbuir | Inner Mongolia The vast grasslands hold a special place in the hearts of our parents' generation. However, the grassland route is quite long, so it's best not to drive the entire way with elderly relatives. Instead, hire a car for a section to explore at a slower pace. ⏰ July to mid-August is when the grass is at its greenest. Starting from Hailar, take the route from Ergun to Heishantou; the scenery is concentrated, and the driving time should be kept under three hours per day. 📍 Morigele River Viewpoint: In the afternoon, the light is soft, and the river looks like a ribbon. Parents can stand there for hours without getting bored. ⚠️ The temperature difference between day and night on the grasslands is significant; wear a light down jacket at night, not just short sleeves. 🍜 Choose lamb for hand-pulled mutton; the meat is tender and easy for the elderly to chew. The milk tea is salty, so try a small bowl first. Stay in a yurt in Heishantou; choose one with a private bathroom, not a shared dormitory just to save money. 🚄 Hailar has an airport and train station; hire a car upon arrival. This itinerary is suitable for families with ample time and a relaxed schedule. Five days and four nights is just right; don't compress it to three days, as the elderly will get tired from traveling. Slow travel doesn't mean walking less; it means giving time to the scenery. Of these six cities, Quzhou and Chongzuo are the least physically demanding, while Linfen and Turpan offer the most information. Choose one and stay two nights with your parents; it's better than rushing to three different attractions.

When traveling with parents, the biggest fear is an overpacked itinerary, too many stairs, or needing to find a seat every few steps. I've selected 8 cities with a slow pace, flat terrain, and plenty of spots to sit down for a cup of tea, where you can minimize walking without compromising on the scenery. 1️⃣ Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan Mountain was the most surprising stop on this trip. The cable car at Bajiaozhai takes you directly near the summit, and the remaining path is a gentle boardwalk that won't leave your parents out of breath. ⏰ Take the cable car before 9:00 AM, while the clouds and mist are still lingering, making the Danxia peaks look like they're soaking in a bath. 📍 Don't force yourself through Tianyi Lane at the foot of Lajiao Peak; the narrowest part requires turning sideways to pass, so skip it if you have bad knees. The truly comfortable experience is the bamboo raft on the Fuyi River. You just sit on the boat and drift along, watching the peaks on both sides recede—no need for the elderly to lift a leg. 🍜 After coming down the mountain, head to Xinning County to eat blood duck (xuejiang ya); you can ask for a mild version in advance. My dad ate two bowls of rice with the blood duck and rice tofu. ⚠️ The attractions in Langshan are scattered, so driving or chartering a car is the easiest way to get around; don't rely on public transport to connect them. Buy attraction tickets and cable car tickets separately, and check the official daily announcements for specific prices. 2️⃣ Yuxi | Yunnan Fuxian Lake is perfect for slowing down the pace. I recommend staying in Luchong or Guanglong Town, where the lakeside promenade is right outside your door—it's even wheelchair-friendly. ⏰ Head to the lakeside at 6:00 PM. The breeze is gentle, the light is soft, and your parents can sit and watch the water for an hour. 🍜 You have to try the copper pot fish, but don't eat at the first row of restaurants in the scenic area; walk two streets into town, and the price can be half as much. The Kanglang fish is ridiculously expensive, so just try a little for the experience—don't overthink it. The mountain road section of Ailao Mountain has many curves, so prepare motion sickness medicine for elderly travelers. To see the sea of clouds, you need to be early; ⏰ arrive at the viewing platform before 7:00 AM, or you'll just see a vast expanse of white. The mountain roads are slippery, so non-slip shoes are more important than looking good. ⚠️ The UV rays by the lake are strong, so don't skip the hats and sunglasses. The altitude isn't very high, but there's a large temperature difference between day and night, so keep a light jacket with you. 3️⃣ Quzhou | Zhejiang The Root Palace Buddhist Cultural Tourism Zone in Kaihua was the easiest stop for my mom. There are many indoor exhibition halls with complete elevator access, so you can walk and look at the root carvings, and sit down whenever you're tired. 📍 The Five Hundred Arhats Corridor is the most stunning part; the carvings made from giant logs left my parents speechless. For Jianglang Mountain, just take a look at the Sanpan Stone; don't climb Lang Peak. ⏰ After 4:00 PM, the slanted light is best for photos, and it saves energy. The stone-paved roads in Nianbadu Ancient Town are flat, so take your time strolling and buy some copper gong cakes as a snack. 🍜 In Quzhou city, try the "three heads and one palm"—rabbit head, duck head, fish head, and duck palm—it's deliciously spicy. If you're afraid of spice, order the clear water fish; it's fresh. ⚠️ The sightseeing bus at Jianglang Mountain has long queues, so try to visit during off-peak hours. The Root Palace Buddhist Cultural Tourism Zone may be closed on Mondays, so check the official announcement before you leave. 4️⃣ Zhangzhou | Fujian The cobblestone roads in Yunshuiyao Ancient Town can be a bit hard on the feet, so make sure your parents have soft-soled shoes. Set up a bamboo chair under the big banyan tree and sit for the afternoon; the sound of the stream is more effective than any white noise. ⏰ At 7:00 AM, the ancient town is empty, and the light shines through the banyan tree roots, so you don't have to fight for photo spots. For the Nanjing Tulou, choosing Tianluokeng and Yunshuiyao is enough; don't try to do too much. There are no elevators in the Tulou, and the stairs are steep, so the elderly can just look up from the courtyard—it's just as stunning. 📍 The Tianluokeng viewing platform is the best place to photograph the "four dishes and one soup" layout, especially at sunset. The coastline at the Binhai Volcanic National Geopark is flat, and the wooden boardwalks are easy to walk on. 🍜 Back in Zhangzhou city, try the braised noodles (lu mian) and Afen braised noodles; the broth is rich and the portions are generous. ⚠️ The three spots are in different directions, so chartering a car for a day is just right; public transport will take up half a day. 5️⃣ Qiannan | Guizhou Libo Zhangjiang is the face of Xiaoqikong, but I have to say: don't hike the whole thing. Enter from the East Gate, take the sightseeing bus to Wolongtan, and then walk down from there. There's more downhill than uphill, which puts less pressure on your parents' knees. ⏰ Arrive before 10:00 AM for fewer crowds and clearer water. 📍 The 68-level waterfall section is the most beautiful, with roaring water and a refreshing mist. If you get tired, just take the sightseeing bus; the ticket is a pass that allows you to get on and off at will. 🍜 In Libo County, eat sour soup fish; it's appetizingly sour without being harsh. Bayberry juice is great for cooling off, so buy a cup on the way. ⚠️ In the rainy season, water levels are high, and some boardwalks may be temporarily closed, so check official notices before you leave. There are few supply points in the scenic area, so bring your own water and snacks. 6️⃣ Golog | Qinghai The First Bend of the Yellow River is the kind of place where "just sitting still is worth the ticket price." 📍 The viewing platform has elevators and boardwalks, so move up slowly and don't rush. ⏰ Arrive an hour before sunset; the Yellow River makes a huge bend, and the grassland is dyed golden red. The altitude is around 3,600 meters, so if your parents have high blood pressure, ask a doctor in advance. Walk slowly, don't get too excited, and don't run or jump. It's windy, so wrap up tight with hats and scarves. 🍜 Golog's yak yogurt and hand-grabbed mutton don't have a strong gamey taste, so the elderly can handle it. Butter tea depends on personal taste, so try a small sip first. ⚠️ Altitude sickness varies from person to person, so it's not embarrassing to have an oxygen bottle on hand. Accommodation conditions are average, so don't have high expectations. 7️⃣ Jincheng | Shanxi Huangcheng Xiangfu is my dad's favorite. It's a castle-style architectural complex; you can go up on the city walls, but there are many stairs, so know your limits. 📍 The square in front of the Yushu Building is flat, making it suitable for the elderly to stroll slowly. ⏰ Watch the "Welcoming the Imperial Carriage" performance at 10:00 AM; it's lively, and parents love it. The ecological park next to the Xiangfu has flat roads and many trees; if you get tired, take the sightseeing bus. 🍜 In Jincheng, eat he-le noodles and roasted green onions; the noodles are chewy, the onions are sweet, and it's not spicy. ⚠️ The Xiangfu and the ecological park have a joint ticket, so don't buy them separately. There are no elevators where there are stairs, so wheelchairs aren't very convenient; keep that in mind. 8️⃣ Taizhou | Jiangsu Qin Lake is the most "laid-back" stop on this trip. You enter the wetland park by boat, and you can see elk wandering on the shallows; your parents can just watch through the window without having to walk a single step. ⏰ Take the boat in the morning; the breeze is cool, and there are many water birds. 📍 The old streets of Qintong Ancient Town are flat, and fish balls and fish cakes are made fresh to order. 🍜 Among the "Eight Delicacies of Qin Lake," the mitten crab is fattest in autumn; in other seasons, just eat the fish and shrimp. ⚠️ There are many mosquitoes in the wetlands, so wear long pants and bring mosquito repellent. Boat schedules are fixed, so check the timetable when you enter the park and don't miss the last boat. These 8 cities all share the same traits: flat roads, scattered attractions, and plenty of places to rest. When traveling with parents, minimizing walking is the greatest act of filial piety. Which city have you taken your elders to that was the most stress-free? Let's chat in the comments.

What's the scariest part of traveling with kids? It's not the tantrums; it's carrying a stroller up a flight of stairs. My criteria for choosing a destination are simple: stroller-accessible, easy on the adults, and engaging for the kids. Don't rush to book tickets for these 8 places until you've read this. 1️⃣ Jinzhong | Shanxi Let's start with the Qiao Family Compound. The courtyards with their grey bricks and tiles are connected one after another, and most thresholds have ramps, so you can generally push a stroller through. ⏰ Arrive before 9:00 AM for fewer crowds and softer light—perfect for kids to run around in the courtyard. The Wang Family Compound is more "uphill" than the Qiao Family Compound; the Gaojia Cliff section has many stairs, which will tire you out with a stroller. My verdict: If you have a young child, choose the Qiao Family Compound. 📍 The stone-paved South Street in the Ancient City of Pingyao is flat, but avoid midday, or the sun will have your child crying. I don't recommend bringing a stroller to Mianshan in Jiexiu. The hanging walkways and stairs are its highlights, but they are a nightmare for strollers. If you really want to go, carry your child and leave the stroller in the car. For food in Pingyao, 🍜 wantuo and kaolaolao are great for kids—they're soft and not spicy. ⚠️ The electric carts in the ancient city often overcharge; ask if the price is for the full trip or one-way before boarding. Check official announcements for ticket prices and opening hours on the day of your visit. 2️⃣ Shaoyang | Hunan Langshan is truly wild, but it's not very stroller-friendly. The Danxia stairs at Bajiaozhai are steep and narrow; taking a stroller up is pure self-torture. My strategy: Only visit the Lajiaofeng (Chili Peak) and the outer perimeter of Tianyixiang (Sky Alley). 📍 The flat path at the entrance of Tianyixiang is stroller-accessible, and you don't need to climb the whole way to see the "sky alley"—kids can see it just by looking up. ⏰ It's best to visit after the rain; the red rocks are washed clean, and the colors are so vivid they look filtered. However, the stone steps are slippery after rain, so someone needs to help with the stroller. ⚠️ Attractions in Langshan are scattered, and it's hard to get around without a car, so driving is recommended. There are few supply points in the scenic area, so bring enough water and snacks. There are many mosquitoes in summer, so long pants are better than shorts. 3️⃣ Kunming | Yunnan Kunming is my personal "gold standard" for stress-free travel with kids. The altitude is moderate, the seasons aren't extreme, and it's incredibly stroller-friendly. 📍 Daguan Park has large flat areas along Dianchi Lake where you can easily push a stroller, and kids can watch the seagulls for half an hour. ⏰ Come in winter when there are the most red-billed gulls; kids are often more excited about feeding the gulls than visiting the attractions. It's windy by the lake, so bring a jacket for your child. Dongchuan Red Land is far from the city with many winding mountain roads; it's better for older kids, as younger ones may get carsick—plan carefully. The Kunming World Horticultural Expo Garden is large but flat, and the electric carts inside will save you a lot of walking. 🍜 When eating Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles in the city, choose the clear broth version so your child can drink the soup. ⚠️ The best time to see the Red Land is in spring and autumn; it's often foggy in summer, so there's a high chance of a wasted trip. 4️⃣ Sanya | Hainan The key to traveling with kids in Sanya is one word: slow. Don't try to check off a list of sights; just pick one or two spots and hang out. 📍 The beach at Yalong Bay has a gentle slope and small waves, so you can push a stroller right to the edge of the sand. ⏰ Go to the beach at 7:00 or 8:00 AM; it's not too sunny, and there are fewer people. Daxiao Dongtian and Tianya Haijiao are essentially about looking at rocks and taking photos. They are stroller-accessible, but kids probably won't be interested. My advice: Pick one to visit, don't do both. You need to take a boat to Wuzhizhou Island, which makes bringing a stroller a hassle, and the activities on the island are a bit too intense for young children. ⚠️ The UV rays in Sanya are strong at noon; don't push yourself outdoors between 11:00 AM–3:00 PM—going back to the hotel for a nap is the smart move. Ask for prices before ordering at seafood markets. 5️⃣ Golog | Qinghai The First Bend of the Yellow River has stunning scenery, but let's be clear: the altitude is high here, so be cautious if bringing young children. You can use a stroller on the viewing boardwalk, which is well-maintained and flat. However, ⏰ the best time to visit is at sunset, when it's windy and the temperature difference is large, so kids can easily catch a cold. 📍 To see the First Bend of the Yellow River, arrive half an hour before sunset when the light turns the river golden. Don't let kids run around on the boardwalk; there are steep slopes just beyond the railings. ⚠️ Altitude sickness is the biggest variable. If your child has a cold or fever, skip this spot entirely. Accommodation along the way is basic, so bring enough of your child's usual medications and warm clothes. This place is better suited for older, healthy children. 6️⃣ Hohhot | Inner Mongolia There are two spots around Hohhot with completely different styles, and I'll explain both. 📍 Laoniuwan Yellow River Grand Canyon is where you can see the landscape where the Yellow River and the Great Wall meet. You can reach the viewing platform with a stroller, but it's windy, so tie down your child's hat. The Chilechuan Grassland Cultural Tourism Area has lots of flat ground and is stroller-friendly. ⏰ Come in summer when the grass is green and the sky is blue; kids can run wild on the grass. But there's no shade on the grassland, so sunscreen and sun hats are a must. 🍜 In the city, try shaomai and lamb offal soup, but kids might not be used to the taste of lamb, so have some bread on hand. ⚠️ The temperature difference between day and night on the grassland is large; wear short sleeves during the day and a jacket at night—don't just bring summer clothes. The drive between the two spots is long, so plan nap times accordingly. 7️⃣ Quzhou | Zhejiang For this stop in Quzhou, I highly recommend Jianglang Mountain and Nianbadu, but you have to be selective. Forget about strollers for the "Sky Alley" and the stairs to the summit of Jianglang Mountain. My strategy: Look at the Three-Pang Stones from the foot of the mountain, take photos, and then head to Nianbadu Ancient Town. 📍 The stone-paved roads in Nianbadu Ancient Town are flat and stroller-accessible. There are many old houses, and kids will be interested in the wood carvings and window patterns. ⏰ The light slants in around 3:00 or 4:00 PM, which is the best time for photos. The Kaihua Root Palace Buddhist Cultural Tourism Zone is mostly indoors with good air conditioning, making it a good backup option for rainy or hot days. ⚠️ There are many exhibits at the Root Palace, so kids might get bored; keep the visit under two hours. 🍜 Try Quzhou baked flatbread and rabbit heads—don't let kids touch the rabbit heads, but the flatbread is fine. Choose accommodation facing the street in the ancient town for a quiet night. 8️⃣ Chengde | Hebei The Chengde Mountain Resort lives up to its name ("Summer Resort"), making it perfect for bringing kids in the summer. 📍 The paths in the lake area of the resort are flat and stroller-accessible; rent a boat so the kids can watch the fish. ⏰ Enter as soon as the park opens in the morning while it's cool, and leave before noon. The surrounding temples have many stairs; Puning Temple and the Putuo Zongcheng Temple are difficult with a stroller, so just pick one nearby to visit. At Jinshanling Great Wall, you can only take a stroller to the foot of the mountain. Don't force it with young kids; just look at the outline of the Great Wall from below and take a photo. ⚠️ It's windy on the Great Wall, so hold onto your child's hat. Summer is peak season in Chengde, so book accommodation in advance. Check official announcements for resort ticket prices and opening hours on the day of your visit. When traveling with kids, choosing the right destination is more important than having a packed itinerary. Of these 8, Kunming and Sanya are the most stress-free, Jinzhong and Chengde are great for summer, and Golog is best left for older children. Which stroller-friendly places have you taken your kids to? Let me know in the comments, and I'll check them out next time.

When people think of Hunan's scenery, Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang Ancient Town usually come to mind first! Actually, Hunan is home to a severely underrated 5A scenic area 🌿 That is Shaoyang Langshan! A World Natural Heritage site with pristine Danxia landforms. It is quiet, uncrowded, not overly commercialized, and affordable. The landscapes are stunning, suitable for all ages, and perfect for a short getaway ✅ 🏞️ 5 core attractions | Each with its own unique charm Bajiaozhai ✨ The core landmark of Langshan Straddling the border of Hunan and Guangxi provinces, this is the highest point of the entire Danxia scenic area. In the mornings after rain, clouds and mist swirl around, with peaks floating amidst the sea of clouds. It creates the unique "Whale Frolicking in the Sea" natural landscape, offering an incredible atmosphere. Looking out from the heights, the layered mountains stretch endlessly, providing a wide view that is perfect for photos. 💡 Amei's tip If you want to see the sunrise over the sea of clouds, it is recommended to start early and check the weather in advance. Most of the hiking trails are gentle, so you can climb at a leisurely pace without getting too tired—even beginners can easily handle it. Tianyi Lane 🌌 A natural Danxia "lane in the sky" A Guinness World Record-certified stone lane landscape. Narrow rock crevices cut through the forest, creating a winding, secluded path. The deeper you go, the more atmospheric it becomes, and stepping out of the lane brings an instant sense of openness. It is a highly representative natural wonder of Langshan with a unique experience. 💡 Amei's tip The light inside the lane is dim and the passage is narrow, so be careful to turn sideways to let others pass. Wear comfortable flat shoes for a safer and more worry-free visit. Lajiao Peak + Camel Peak 🪨 Natural rock formations Natural rock landscapes sculpted by nature. The peaks are lifelike, with unique and highly recognizable silhouettes. The trails along the way are gentle, making for a comfortable sightseeing experience as you walk. Every photo you take is a stunning shot of pristine nature. Zixia Cave 🌿 A quiet, natural cave The stalactites inside the cave come in various shapes, illuminated by soft light. The air is cool and quiet, making it especially refreshing for a summer visit. The cave landscape is delicate and detailed, perfect for a slow, leisurely stroll. Fuyi River Bamboo Rafting 🚣 Drift slowly on a bamboo raft through clear waters surrounded by mountains. Immerse yourself in the view of the continuous Danxia peaks on both banks. The water is clear, the scenery is gentle, and the whole experience is relaxing and healing. It is not thrilling or bumpy, making it suitable for both seniors and children. 💡 Amei's tip The rafting pace is slow, so it is recommended to go during the day when the lighting is better for photos. Make sure to waterproof your belongings. 🍜 Local specialties | Authentic farmhouse flavors 😋 Langshan cuisine mainly consists of home-style farmhouse dishes that are fresh, savory, and full of local character. ▪️ Xinning Blood Sauce Duck: A local signature dish; duck meat braised in duck blood, rich in sauce and unique in flavor. ▪️ Firewood-smoked bacon: Farmhouse-smoked bacon that is savory but not greasy, perfect for stir-fries and goes great with rice. ▪️ Langshan rice noodles: A must-have for breakfast, with a savory broth and chewy noodles—affordable and filling. ▪️ Pig blood meatballs and bracken root cakes: Local snacks that are soft, chewy, and fragrant, capturing the local vibe perfectly. ▪️ Fuyi River clear-water fish: Fresh river fish with tender meat, served in its original, natural flavor. 💡 Amei's tip For authentic flavors, prioritize the farmhouses around the scenic area. The ingredients are fresh and the price-to-quality ratio is high—you can have a very satisfying meal for 30–40 yuan per person. 🏨 Accommodation options | Choose what suits you best 1. Homestays at the foot of the mountain Very close to all the attractions, with easy access to the park by walking or a short drive. You can see the Danxia mountain scenery right from your window, and the environment is quiet and secluded. Suitable for those who want to wake up early to see the sea of clouds and have an immersive experience. 2. Hotels in Xinning County Better facilities, with supermarkets and food streets nearby. There are more accommodation choices and better value for money, and you can go out for food and a stroll in the evening. Suitable for family trips and travelers with a moderate budget. 💡 Amei's tip Rooms are in high demand during holidays and weekends, so it is recommended to book in advance. For a short 2-day, 1-night trip, staying in the county town is more convenient for dining, accommodation, and resting. 📌 Amei's thoughtful travel tips 1. The scenic area uses a pass system, allowing multiple entries within the validity period, so you can slow down your pace. 2. The overall hiking difficulty is low with friendly road conditions, suitable for the whole family. 3. The temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is slightly large, so it is a good idea to bring a light jacket regardless of the season. 4. Avoid steep sections on rainy days; the views and experience are better on sunny days. No crowds, no high prices. You can see the wonders of Danxia and experience the local charm of a niche destination ✨ For a short trip around Hunan, Langshan is truly worth a special visit!
