Yangshuo travel guide and discussion

You should definitely plan to stay here for at least 4 days. And if you really want to escape the city bustle, make it a week! We’ve seen mountains in many different countries, but what we saw here was on a completely different level. These peaks don't look like your typical mountain landscapes—they seem to sprout directly from the lush green valleys and rice fields. We’ve never encountered such a vibrant and unique landscape in all our travels. After seeing my posts, friends even asked: "Is this really China?" Your version of China is so niche! 😅 In just a day and a half, we managed to take a bamboo raft ride, watch the evening show "Impression Liu Sanjie" (it was absolutely breathtaking—I even teared up a bit because of its sheer scale), ride about 50 kilometers on a bike through the hills, relax in cafes overlooking the mountains, and try the famous local dish: beer fish. But there was still so much more we wanted to see... And all of this on a fairly tight budget. We took a taxi from Guilin (it turned out to be cheaper and faster than trains or buses)—100 yuan (booked via Amap). Bike—40 yuan per day. Hotel room—250 yuan per night. Theater ticket (one person)—250 yuan. Food—it depends on your appetite, but we never spent more than 50-70 yuan for a lunch for two! Transfer to the station—40 yuan. Raft ride (30 minutes)—200 yuan for two. Tea in a coffee shop with stunning views—38 yuan. Amazing photos—0 yuan. Good vibes—0 yuan. We will definitely be back in Yangshuo. Next time, we'll stay for at least four days so we can take our time and see more of this incredible, "hidden gem" side of China. Still on our list: the suspension bridge, feeding the deer, visiting Xingping, catching the sunrise on Xiangshun Mountain, and going on a hot air balloon ride. We also want to pick a more secluded and remote hotel next time—somewhere tucked away where the windows look out only onto the mountains, without the street noise below. Our current hotel was great too; we specifically picked it for its proximity to the city center. However, it turns out staying central isn't necessary at all, since you can get anywhere quickly on a bike. If you're curious about the hotel, I've tagged the location in this post! 🏔️ A free view of all of Yangshuo in the city center: a park where locals go, but tourists don't know about it and go to paid observation decks. Did you know that the best panoramic view of Yangshuo costs zero yuan and is a 10-minute walk from West Street? We found it by chance, and it was one of the most beautiful spots of our entire trip. No tickets, no lines, just you, the steps, and the entire city beneath your feet. 📍 What is this place? Yangshuo Park (阳朔公园) (Diecui Road, Yangshuo County, Guilin City) is a free city park in the very center of Yangshuo, on Diecui Road. The entrance is opposite the bus station at the roundabout. It's about a 15-minute walk from West Street, or you can cross the bridge to the left of the hospital. The park is huge—340 mu (over 22 hectares)—and open 24 hours. But the main attraction isn't the park itself, but the hill, which is accessed by stone steps. 🪜 Ascent: Short, but with surprises The ascent takes 10-20 minutes, depending on your pace. We walked leisurely, stopping at each "floor" to take beautiful photos. Route (tested): Enter the main gate, go straight to the Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument (烈士纪念碑), turn right, see the red house, and turn left up the steps. From there, there's only one path; you won't get lost. There's a beautiful Chinese-style pavilion halfway along the way; it's a good place to stop for a rest and take your first few photos. We paused there for about ten minutes because the view of the city was already opening up. The steps are narrow and steep in places, and slippery in rainy weather, so be especially careful descending. There are handrails, but some are a little wobbly, so don't put all your weight on them. 🪟 "Window with a Hole" and a view of all of Yangshuo At the top, the Woyun Pavilion awaits you—and here it is, the "hole." Two openings in the walls of the pavilion offer a panoramic view of the entire city: rooftops, the curves of the river, and endless karst peaks stretching to the horizon. Outside, a small balcony is the observation deck. We took countless photos there. The light changes every five minutes, and each time, you want to take more. If you don't want to go to the TV tower or climb the Yangshuo Mountains for the sunset, the sunset here is just as good, and the walk is much closer and easier. 🚻 Hands-on: Restrooms and What to Bring There are free restrooms in the park: they are all clean and working. There are no amenities up there, including water. Bring a bottle of water, especially in summer. What to wear: proper shoes. No flip-flops, not smooth soles. The steps are stone, worn in places, and slippery in the rain. You can go with children. When to go: There are no crowds at all, in the morning (7-9) or late afternoon (17-19). It's scorching hot at midday, and there's little shade on the way up. Also, there are almost no streetlights on the mountain, so if you're lingering around sunset, go down before dark. If you have a spare half hour in Yangshuo, go here. This isn't "just another park," but the most honest way to see the whole city without paying a single yuan. It was one of my best memories. And then we went down and had some noodles. A perfect day. 📍 Yangshuo Park, Diecui Road, Yangshuo 💰 Admission: Free ⏰ Open 24/7 🪜 Ascent to the pavilion: 10–20 minutes 📸 Best photos: pavilion halfway up + Yangshuo Park at the top ⚠️ In the rain, be careful on the descent. Bring water. Don't walk in the dark. #Yangshuo #YangshuoPark #YangshuoPark #FreeYangshuo #YangshuoPark #YangshuoViewpoint #TravelAroundChina #TripcomYangshuo

I followed Trip.com's suggestion and booked this 4-day, 3-night private tour of Guilin, and it was fantastic. The itinerary was perfectly planned—packed with fun but totally stress-free since I didn't have to plan a thing! Our travel butler, Maggie, provided online support and guidance the whole time, ensuring everything went smoothly. Our local driver, Master Zeng, was equally amazing, sharing great insights at every stop and recommending local eats and hidden photo ops that added so much depth to the trip. All entrance tickets were included at a fair price, saving me a ton of hassle. From the Longji Rice Terraces and Yangshuo to the Xingping 3-star cruise, Yulong River bamboo rafting, and the surreal Silver Cave, I was fully immersed in Guilin’s stunning scenery. 🏞️ Travel Tips: 1. Zero stress about tickets—they’re all pre-booked, saving you tons of time. 2. The guided commentary along the route is super helpful, and the butler is always online to help with any issues. 3. Definitely try the food and hidden spots suggested by the driver—they offer a truly authentic local experience! 4. Bring your camera for the bamboo rafts and rice terraces; the autumn colors in Guilin are absolutely breathtaking! Whether you're looking for an autumn escape, great stays, or a premium private tour, I highly recommend booking through Trip.com!

Yangshuo is a breathtaking, tranquil destination that literally lets you step right into a traditional Chinese landscape painting. 🌅 Living in a Chinese fairy tale: Review of Paddy Fields Resort If you are looking for an escape from the city hustle, where you can wake up to sun-kissed rice fields and karst hills dissolving into the mist, this hotel is a perfect 10/10. It is located away from the chaos of West Street, right in the heart of the picturesque countryside near the Yulong River. 🛏️ Rooms you’ll never want to leave I booked a room with floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, and it was the best decision! You wake up in the morning, draw the curtains—and there before you are the mountains reflecting in the water of the rice paddies. · Interior: Spacious, spotless, and modern, with a sleek eco-minimalist vibe. 📸 Photo ops and amenities The resort itself is designed to ensure you bring home a million stunning shots from your vacation. · Pool: A massive heated outdoor infinity pool that visually blends into the surrounding fields. · · Rooftop (7th floor): There is a viewing platform featuring the famous "Sky Mirror." In clear weather or right after a rain shower when the mountains are veiled in mist, the photos turn out absolutely cosmic. ☕ Food with a million-dollar view · Breakfast: Served at the Forest restaurant. The selection is fantastic, offering both Western favorites and traditional Chinese dishes. You must try the local Guilin rice noodles, cooked fresh to order. And, of course, grab your plate and head to the balcony to breathe the fresh air and soak in the mountain views. · · Nice bonus: From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (or 5:00 PM), an elegant afternoon tea with desserts and fruit is served for all guests for free. After a rain shower, it's also worth visiting the local Cloud coffee bar for an excellent cup of coffee. Save this post if you're planning a trip to China! Heading to Yangshuo in mid-November! How chilly does it actually get, especially near the rivers and at night? Cast your vote below to help me pack please! 👇 #Guilin #Yangshuo #ChinaTravel

Yangshuo is one of those places where, right after you're done admiring the karst peaks, you'll quickly stumble upon its second greatest attraction: dinner. The local cuisine is deeply rooted in the Li River, fresh village produce, and a curious tradition of stuffing just about anything that sits still long enough 😄 1. Beer Fish / 啤酒鱼 — Beer-Braised Fish Yangshuo’s signature dish. Fresh river fish is pan-fried and then braised in a savory mix of beer, tomatoes, peppers, ginger, and spices. Most of the alcohol cooks off, leaving behind a rich, flavorful sauce. Since prices vary by fish species and weight, always double-check the price per 斤 (500g) before you commit—don't just look at the number on the menu. 2. Yangshuo Shiba Niang / 阳朔十八酿 — “18 Stuffed Dishes” This isn't just one dish, but a whole local institution. Meat or vegetable fillings are stuffed into tofu, eggplants, peppers, mushrooms, pumpkin, and various other ingredients. If you're new to it, I recommend trying the Stuffed Tofu (豆腐酿): it’s soft, satisfying, and not too “out there” for beginners. 3. Lijiang River Shrimp / 漓江虾 Tiny river shrimp flash-fried with garlic, scallions, and sometimes a hint of chili. These aren't like your typical jumbo restaurant prawns; here, it’s all about that addictive, crunchy texture. This dish is perfect for sharing between two people. 4. Bamboo Chicken / 竹筒鸡 A fragrant dish where chicken, mushrooms, ginger, and spices are steamed inside a bamboo tube. The result is a delicate flavor with a subtle woody aroma. You’ll mostly find this in village restaurants around the Yangshuo outskirts—it's the perfect fuel after a day of cycling or river rafting. 5. Aiye Baba / 艾叶粑粑 These are green glutinous rice cakes flavored with wormwood leaves. They are often filled with a sweet mixture of sugar, sesame, or peanuts. They usually cost just a few yuan and make for a great snack on the go. Where to look? West Street / 西街 is convenient for your first meal, but be prepared for tourist prices. I’d recommend heading to the side streets for small, family-run spots. For simple local staples, check out the markets and eateries further away from the main tourist center. Pro tip for Beer Fish: Ask for the price by weight first, then choose your fish. Otherwise, your dinner might unexpectedly become the most expensive part of your day. My perfect daily menu: Aiye Baba in the morning → Stuffed Tofu for lunch → River Shrimp + Bamboo Chicken → Beer Fish for dinner. Because the karst mountains in Yangshuo are stunning. But after 8 PM, a steaming plate of Beer Fish definitely gives them a run for their money. 😄

We had a wonderful raft experience in Yangshuo! 🚣 For ¥200 for two people, you get 45 minutes floating past towering karst mountains and crystal clear water. The views are unreal 🤩 If you're in Guilin, the trip to Yangshuo is so worth it. The bamboo raft tour on the Yulong River starts just outside Yangshuo town. Head to Yulong Bridge, Yulong Scenic Area, Baisha Town, Yangshuo, Guilin (open 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM). Booking through Trip.com is easy. Tip: go early for the most peaceful atmosphere and beautiful golden light, perfect for photos 📸. It's a great activity for nature lovers and anyone looking for something a bit adventurous, so add it to your bucket list. If you want to float through paradise and come home with some amazing shots, don't miss the Yangshuo bamboo raft experience!

One of the best decisions I made in Yangshuo was renting an e-bike, even though I was terrified at first (it was my first time ever on a bike!). It honestly feels like the coolest and most convenient way to explore the Yulong River (遇龙河) valley. You don’t even need a specific destination; you'll want to stop and pull out your phone every few minutes. The rice fields, misty mountains, and bamboo rafts are so picturesque that you just have to save them to your gallery to look at later :) My first "test run" route took me north through the valley to the ancient stone Fuli Bridge. Amap Route: Jima Wharf (骥马码头) → Yichi Rice Field Café (一尺稻田咖啡) → Fuli Bridge (富里桥). I took the same way back, starting from the Origin Lodge hotel near Gongnong Bridge (工农桥). Coffee in the Rice Fields My first major stop was the Yichi Rice Field Café (一尺稻田咖啡), about a 35-minute ride from my hotel. It’s a famous, Instagram-worthy spot tucked right between the rice paddies and surrounded by karst peaks. I hung out there for about 40 minutes, sipping coffee and wandering the paths. It was also the moment I realized I could handle the bike and was ready for longer distances. The roads were smooth, traffic was light, and the battery barely dropped—nothing like the nightmare I had imagined before starting! Ancient Fuli Bridge Next, I continued along the valley to Fuli Bridge (富里桥), a stunning ancient stone arch bridge crossing the Yulong River. It’s a gorgeous spot featuring the bridge, lush trees, the river, and mountains in the distance—there was even a traditional cormorant fisherman on a bamboo raft. I spent another 40 minutes there before heading back the same way. The entire trip, including stops, took about four hours. The e-bike rental cost 30 yuan (September 2026). Even though Fuli Bridge was the destination, the best part of the trip was definitely the ride itself—having the freedom to stop whenever I saw something beautiful and just taking my time. That’s exactly why you should get an e-bike in Yangshuo.

Nearly a year ago, we were cruising through Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, and now we're in Yangshuo. The mountains here are the same limestone peaks, but the way you experience them is completely different. How to Experience Them Ha Long — from a boat or kayak, with mountains rising straight out of the sea. Yangshuo — from a bamboo raft, a bicycle, or a viewpoint, with mountains nestled among rice paddies and rivers. Time Needed We saw Ha Long in a single day trip from Hanoi: leaving at 8 AM and returning at 10 PM. Yangshuo is a home base: you live right among the mountains and decide for yourself where to go each day. Cost In Yangshuo, a raft on the Yulong River costs 200–320 ¥ for two, an e-bike for the day is 30–60 ¥, and the Xianggong Hill viewpoint is 60 ¥ per person. The Vibe Ha Long has a constant flow of tourists and mandatory stops at "pearl museums" and shops. In Yangshuo, you can cycle off to quiet villages along the Yulong River. Which do you prefer: Ha Long or Yangshuo? Cast your vote in the comments.

This is Ruyi Peak "Ruyi" signifies the traditional Chinese scepter of good luck and fulfilled dreams. These karst mountains were once submerged in the ocean; over millions of years, water dissolved the soft rock to create this breathtaking landscape. We visited with our child, and it was very convenient. We used a stroller to get close to the peak, then switched to a baby carrier for the final climb to the summit. There are toilets and cafes everywhere, plus souvenir shops. There's a place to rest every 200 meters, and prices are fair—bottled water is 5-8 yuan. You can even enjoy coffee and ice cream right at the top! It's indescribably beautiful—we highly recommend visiting!

Tours of the villages around Yanshui are sold everywhere, but this route is easily done on your own on an electric bike. Rent: ¥30-60 per day, plus a ¥100-200 deposit. Ask about the battery range. Day Itinerary: City → Shili Gallery: 7 km of road lined with karst mountains on both sides. Moon Hill: Important: It was closed to the public in October 2024, and was still closed as of late 2025. Check before you go; the arch is also visible from the road. Yulong Bridge: A stone bridge built in 1412, over 600 years old. Return: along rural roads along the Yulong River, past rice fields. Practical: Use Apple Maps or Amap for navigation; Google Maps doesn't work well in China. Bring water and sunscreen. Would you take a tour or go on your own? #Yangshu #Yangshuo #ElectricBike #TenLiGallery #Yangshuo #Cycling

We’re currently in Yangshuo and have scouted out the spots where tourists most often overpay. These prices are for 2025–2026, though they might fluctuate slightly on the ground. 1. Li River Rafts in Xingping. The official Yangdi to Xingping route is 216 ¥ per person, plus a 35 ¥ fee for every empty seat on a four-person raft. If you’re just looking for that iconic view from the 20-yuan bill, local rafts at the Xingping pier charge about 80–120 ¥ per raft for 30–60 minutes, and it's perfectly okay to bargain here. 2. Beer Fish. This is sold by weight, and the price on the menu might be per jin (500g) or per kilogram—make sure to check which one. Always ask them to weigh the fish in front of you. A typical dish usually ends up costing between 120–230 ¥. 3. Yulong River Rafting. Note that the price is per raft (which fits two people), not per person: 200 ¥ for the short route (~40 mins) and 320 ¥ for the long route (~75 mins). Tickets are available at the official piers or via the Yulong River WeChat account. 4. Rapids Photography. Photographers will snap photos of everyone as they go down the rapids and then try to sell them to you downstream. Don't feel pressured; you can just say no. 5. Getting to Xingping. The bus from the Yangshuo station costs 20 ¥, while a DiDi typically runs 60–80 ¥. If you’re using a private driver, make sure to agree on the price before you get in. The golden rule: always confirm the price before anything happens. Has anyone tried to overcharge you elsewhere in China?

Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more people online claiming that Yangshuo isn’t worth the trip anymore. They say it’s overcrowded, everything is monetized, and you have to fight through hordes of people just to catch a glimpse of the scenery. It’s true that tourism is booming in other spots with similar vibes—like the Mingshi area near Nanning or Cao Bang in Vietnam. Those places also have incredible karst mountains, winding rivers, and stunning valleys, often with far fewer tourists. But people seem to forget one crucial point: a lack of crowds isn't always a good thing. Yangshuo isn't just about the peaks; it’s about the convenience. There are far more accommodation options for every budget. You can find a cozy spot with a killer view without being forced to overpay for the only hotel around. The same goes for cafes. In Yangshuo, it’s easy to find a place where you can grab a great meal and a coffee while soaking in the scenery. You don't have to trek miles or plan an entire expedition just to find a nice spot to sit. Overall, traveling here is just easier. There’s better transport, more food choices, and plenty of entertainment. Of course, if your main goal is total solitude and untouched nature, then other destinations might suit you better. But if you want to actually live among these landscapes for a few days, explore the surroundings, and still enjoy modern comforts, Yangshuo remains a top-tier choice. I wouldn’t write it off just yet. Maybe Yangshuo isn’t "ruined"—it’s just popular. What do you think: do you prefer stunning spots without the crowds, or a bit more activity with better amenities?

If you're looking for China's most beautiful spot—a place where every view takes your breath away—welcome to this paradise of emerald karst hills and misty rivers! My take? Pure bliss! It feels like you’ve stepped inside an ancient Chinese watercolor painting. We drifted on bamboo rafts down the mirror-like Yulong River, caught a stunning golden sunrise at Xiangong Hill, and watched the sun dip behind those surreal mountain peaks. Every corner here is postcard-perfect. 🥹 By night, the historic West Street comes alive with glowing lights, the aroma of street food, and an incredible atmosphere. Staying at the Lijiang Resort Hotel in Yangshuo was truly a delightful surprise. Nestled against a beautiful forest of peaks, the hotel's outdoor terrace features comfortable tables and chairs, large parasols, and breathtaking views of verdant mountains and trees – every snapshot is a masterpiece. The lobby is bright and airy, while the rooms are spacious and airy, with wooden floors and soft lighting creating a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Sitting on the terrace, enjoying the mountain breeze and gazing at the karst peaks, is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Here, you don't need to rush; you can quietly soak in the beauty of Yangshuo's landscape and the tranquility of a vacation. No wonder so many tourists recommend it.

Let’s be serious for a moment. Would you spend nearly three hours on mountain roads just to look at rice fields? 😂 Because that’s exactly what makes Longji Rice Terraces (龙脊梯田) near Guilin so interesting. These aren’t ordinary rice fields. Entire mountainsides are covered with beautiful, curved terraces that look like giant green staircases stretching into the clouds. And here’s the surprising part: the same landscape looks completely different depending on when you visit! 🌿 Why Longji is worth the journey During summer, the terraces turn incredibly green, with layers of rice fields flowing across the mountains. When clouds drift through the valleys, the whole landscape feels like a painting. But autumn brings another transformation. As the rice ripens, those bright green hills gradually turn golden, creating one of the most beautiful countryside landscapes in China. For me, the most appealing part is the combination of nature, traditional hillside villages, and the slow pace of mountain life. 📍 Location: Longji Rice Terraces, Longsheng County, Guilin, Guangxi, China. 🚗 How to get there: Option 1: Private Car or Organized Tour (Recommended) · Depart from Guilin city. · Allow approximately 2–3 hours each way, depending on your destination. · Choose either Ping’an Village (平安寨) or Jinkeng Dazhai (金坑大寨), since the scenic areas are spread apart. 🚌 Option 2: Public Transportation · Take a tourist shuttle from Guilin toward Longji or Longsheng, then transfer locally if required. · Confirm departure points and schedules before traveling, as services vary. · Staying overnight is recommended if you want to photograph sunrise or sunset. 🌾 Which area should you visit? · Ping’an: Famous for its curved terraces and traditional village scenery. · Jinkeng Dazhai: Known for expansive mountain views and a cable car to the Golden Buddha Peak viewpoint. 📸 Travel tips: · May–June: Water-filled terraces create beautiful reflections. · July–September: Lush green rice fields. · September–October: Golden rice before harvest. Check the local harvest schedule before booking. · Time needed: A full day or preferably one night. · Tickets: Budget approximately ¥80–100 for admission, with cable cars charged separately. Confirm current prices. · Photography: Early morning mist and late-afternoon sunlight can make the terraces especially atmospheric. 💭 My slightly controversial opinion: Sometimes I think countryside destinations are more rewarding than famous city attractions. No skyscrapers, no shopping malls, just incredible landscapes and the opportunity to slow down. But I understand why some travelers might find a long mountain journey exhausting, especially if the weather turns cloudy and hides the views! 💬 Let’s settle this travel debate! 🌾 Team A: I’d happily travel hours for spectacular natural scenery. 🏙️ Team B: Three hours to see rice fields? I’d rather explore Guilin or Yangshuo! Which team are you on? And would you choose Longji’s lush green summer or golden autumn? 📍 Longji Rice Terraces, Guilin, China #citybreakvsnatureescape

If you visit Yangshuo, there is one dish you will notice almost everywhere in the evening: fish cooked in beer. I had heard about it before coming here, so of course I wanted to try it. And honestly, even ordering it was interesting because this is not just an ordinary local dish. Beer fish is almost a Yangshuo attraction itself. 🐟 You simply order it, wait a little, and then they bring the finished fish to your table. And somehow, that makes you even more curious to see what it will actually look and taste like. 😄 The evening atmosphere in Yangshuo makes the whole experience even better. There are so many people walking around the streets, taking photos, looking at shops and choosing where to eat. It feels lively everywhere. But the restaurants are often surprisingly large, with lots of tables and plenty of space, so even with all those people outside, there is usually room to sit down and enjoy your meal. When our beer fish arrived, I was genuinely curious to try it. It was interesting to eat a dish that is so strongly connected with the place itself. You see it everywhere, you hear about it, and then suddenly it is right in front of you. For me, this is exactly what Must-Try Food should be while travelling. Sometimes the best food experiences are not about ordering something fancy. They are about trying the dish that everyone associates with that particular place. In Yangshuo, beer fish is definitely one of those dishes. So if you are walking around Yangshuo in the evening and see beer fish everywhere, now you know what it is. 😄🐟 For me, it was a real part of discovering Yangshuo, not just dinner. #must-tryfood #yangshuo #yangshuotravel #guilin #chinesefood #chinatravel #foodtravel #hotdiscussions

If you’re looking for a China trip that feels a little slower, greener and more relaxing, Guilin + Yangshuo is such a good choice. 🇨🇳✨ Forget rushing from one huge city to another. Here, the scenery is the main attraction — karst mountains, bamboo rafts, old streets, rice terraces, caves, rivers and plenty of good food. 😍 And honestly… some of the best moments are simply sitting beside the river with a drink and doing absolutely nothing. 😂🍵 🌿 DAY 1 — ARRIVE IN GUILIN Start your trip around Guilin’s classic city sights. 📍 Elephant Trunk Hill 📍 Fubo Hill 📍 Rongshan Lake & Shanhu Lake 📍 Sun & Moon Twin Pagodas 📍 Ancient South Gate 📍 Millennium Banyan Tree 📍 Nine-Curve Bridge Take it easy on the first day and explore on foot whenever possible. And of course… 🍜 Guilin Rice Noodles! You cannot come to Guilin and skip this. It’s simple, local and seriously addictive. 😂 🌄 DAY 2 — LONGJI RICE TERRACES Time to leave the city and head into the mountains. 🌾 Buni Rice Terraces 🏡 Centennial Yao Village 💦 Jiawu Waterfall ❤️ White-face Red Yao Village This is where the trip starts feeling completely different. The rice terraces stretch across the mountains, small villages sit between the hills, and the views change every few minutes as you drive higher. 🌿☁️ One of the most interesting experiences is visiting a local Red Yao family and trying traditional flavours. 🥃 Glutinous Rice Wine 🍵 Yao Oil Tea And yes, the famous Red Yao long-hair culture is part of the experience too. ❤️ 🚗 TIP: Mountain roads can be winding, so don’t try to squeeze too many stops into one day. 🏞️ DAY 3 — YANGSHUO DAY Welcome to Yangshuo! This is probably the day you’ll take the most photos. 😂📸 Start with a fun: 🏍️ Yangshuo Sidecar Ride Then slow things down with: 🎋 Li River Bamboo Rafting 🚗 Ten-Mile Gallery Scenic Drive ⛰️ Moon Hill 🏮 Yangshuo West Street The bamboo raft is definitely one of those “I’m actually in China!” moments. Surrounded by the karst mountains, floating down the river feels almost unreal. 💚 Later, explore West Street when the lights come on. Food, snacks, cafés, souvenirs, music and plenty of people-watching. 🌙🏮 🍜 DAY 4 — RIVER → CAVE → CULTURE Continue exploring Yangshuo before heading back towards Guilin. 🚢 Li River Cruise 🌿 Ten-Mile Gallery 📸 Moon Hill photo stop ✨ Silver Cave 🏮 Dong Ethnic Water Village Silver Cave is a completely different experience from the outdoor scenery — huge underground formations, dramatic lighting and impressive natural shapes. 🪨✨ Then slow down again at the Dong-style water village for a taste of local culture. By evening, head back towards Guilin. 🏮 DAY 5 — GUILIN OLD TOWN & CULTURE This day is more relaxed and perfect for wandering. 🌼 Sweet Osmanthus Commune 🏮 Dongxi Lane Cultural Street 🏯 Jingjiang Prince’s Palace — exterior 📜 Sanyuan & Jidi Zhuangyuan Corridor 🌅 Xiaoyao Tower 🏘️ Daxu Ancient Town 🎨 Folk Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum Dongxi Lane is great for food, shopping and little souvenirs. And Daxu Ancient Town gives you a slower, more traditional side of Guangxi. Don’t rush. Walk around. Try something you’ve never eaten. Buy a small souvenir. Take random photos. That’s the fun part. ❤️ ✈️ DAY 6 — GUILIN → KUALA LUMPUR Time to go home. 🥲✈️ Have one final breakfast, grab some last-minute snacks and souvenirs, then head to Guilin Airport. 🇨🇳 Guilin → 🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur The trip might be over, but your camera roll is definitely not ready to stop. 😂📸 ✨ WHY I LOVE THIS ROUTE Guilin gives you the city, culture and classic landmarks. Longji gives you mountains and traditional villages. Yangshuo gives you rivers, karst scenery and that relaxed countryside feeling. And together, they make a really nice 6D5N journey without feeling like you’re constantly packing and unpacking. 🏔️ Mountains 🎋 Bamboo rafting 🌾 Rice terraces 🏮 Ancient towns ✨ Caves 🍜 Local food 🚗 Scenic drives 🌙 Night markets & old streets My favourite part? You can have a crazy beautiful day without needing a crazy schedule. Wake up. Eat. Explore. Take photos. Find a little café. Watch the mountains. Eat again. 🇨🇳 CHINA TRAVEL GUIDE | 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗗 + 𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗦𝗘𝗘 🍜 China is one of those destinations where the food alone can be a reason to book the trip. But once you start looking at the attractions, ancient cities, mountain landscapes, temples and modern skylines, it gets even harder to choose where to go first. If you’re planning a China trip, here are some destinations worth putting on your list, especially if you want a mix of iconic sights and seriously good food. 🏮 1. BEIJING If it’s your first time in China, Beijing is one of the easiest places to start. The city is packed with some of China’s most famous landmarks, including the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall. The Forbidden City is massive, so don’t underestimate how much walking is involved. Give yourself several hours instead of trying to squeeze it between too many other attractions. Then there’s the Great Wall. Mutianyu is a popular choice for travelers who want impressive mountain scenery without the same crowds you can encounter at some of the more famous sections. And then comes the food. 🥟 MUST TRY: · Peking duck · Zhajiangmian · Jiaozi · Beijing-style hotpot · Tanghulu One of the best things about Beijing is how easily you can go from an ancient palace in the morning to a tiny local restaurant at night. FUN FACT: Beijing has been the capital of China for much of the country’s modern history and has more than 3,000 years of recorded history. BEST FOR: 🏯 History 🧱 Great Wall 🥟 Traditional Chinese food 🏮 Ancient architecture 🐼 2. CHENGDU If your travel priority is food, Chengdu deserves serious attention. This is Sichuan food territory, so expect bold flavors, chili, garlic and the famous Sichuan peppercorn that creates that distinctive numbing sensation. You can spend an entire trip eating your way around the city. 🌶️ MUST TRY: · Sichuan hotpot · Mapo tofu · Kung Pao chicken · Dan dan noodles · Zhong dumplings · Sichuan-style skewers And yes, you also have to visit the giant pandas. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is one of the city’s most famous attractions and is an obvious stop for first-time visitors. Beyond pandas and food, explore Jinli Ancient Street, Kuanzhai Alley and the city’s teahouse culture. FUN FACT: Chengdu is internationally famous as one of the major centers for giant panda conservation. BEST FOR: 🐼 Pandas 🌶️ Spicy food 🍜 Noodles 🍵 Teahouses 🏮 Traditional streets 🏙️ 3. SHANGHAI Shanghai is where you go when you want to see China’s modern side. The Bund is the obvious starting point, especially around sunset when the skyline across the Huangpu River starts lighting up. Then head into the city for Nanjing Road, Yu Garden and the atmospheric streets around the old city. Shanghai is also one of China’s best food destinations because you can find everything from street snacks to refined regional cuisine. 🥢 MUST TRY: · Xiaolongbao · Shengjian mantou · Scallion oil noodles · Shanghai-style braised pork · Crab dishes when in season Don’t leave without trying both xiaolongbao and shengjian. They may look similar, but the texture and cooking method are completely different. FUN FACT: Shanghai is one of the world’s major financial and commercial centers and has one of the most recognizable skylines in Asia. BEST FOR: 🌃 City views 🥟 Dumplings 🏙️ Modern China 🌆 Night photography 🌄 4. ZHANGJIAJIE If you have seen photos of huge stone pillars rising through the mist and thought they looked unreal, there is a good chance you were looking at Zhangjiajie. The area is famous for its dramatic sandstone mountains, especially around Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. This is a destination where the scenery is the main attraction. Take the cable cars, walk along the mountain paths and allow enough time for weather conditions to change. The mist can completely transform the landscape. Nearby Tianmen Mountain is another major attraction, famous for its dramatic mountain roads, glass walkways and the enormous natural rock arch known as Tianmen Cave. 🍜 FOOD TO TRY: · Sanxia-style dishes · Local smoked meats · Rice noodles · Hunan cuisine FUN FACT: The landscapes around Zhangjiajie are often associated with the inspiration for the floating mountains shown in the movie Avatar, although the exact inspiration is more complicated than the popular claim suggests. BEST FOR: 🏔️ Mountains 📸 Photography 🚡 Cable cars 🌫️ Misty landscapes 🌸 5. HANGZHOU Hangzhou is famous for West Lake, traditional gardens, tea plantations and its elegant historic atmosphere. Take a slow walk around West Lake, visit Lingyin Temple and explore Longjing tea villages. This is also a destination where food feels closely connected to the local culture. 🍵 MUST TRY: · Longjing tea · West Lake fish in vinegar sauce · Dongpo pork · Beggar’s chicken · Hangzhou-style noodles Longjing tea is one of China’s most famous green teas, and visiting the tea-growing areas gives you a completely different experience from simply drinking it in a restaurant. FUN FACT: Hangzhou was historically one of China’s wealthiest cities and was famously described by Marco Polo as one of the world’s most beautiful and magnificent cities. BEST FOR: 🍵 Tea 🌿 Nature 🏯 Temples 🌊 West Lake 🏮 6. XI’AN Xi’an is where history and food come together. The biggest attraction is, of course, the Terracotta Army. Seeing thousands of life-size terracotta soldiers standing in formation is one of those travel experiences that feels very different in person compared with seeing photos online. Back in the city, walk around the Ancient City Wall and explore the Muslim Quarter. And come hungry. 🍜 MUST TRY: · Biangbiang noodles · Roujiamo · Lamb kebabs · Yangrou paomo · Xi’an-style dumplings Roujiamo is sometimes described as a Chinese-style burger, but honestly, that description doesn’t do it justice. FUN FACT: Xi’an was the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and served as the capital of several important Chinese dynasties. BEST FOR: 🏺 Ancient history 🗿 Terracotta Army 🍜 Noodles 🥙 Street food 🌆 7. CHONGQING Chongqing is one of China’s most visually dramatic cities. Built across hills and surrounded by rivers, the city feels almost three-dimensional. Buildings seem to rise directly out of mountainsides, roads pass through different levels and the night skyline is incredible. But the biggest reason many travelers come? 🌶️ HOTPOT. Chongqing hotpot is not for people who are afraid of spice. The broth is packed with chili and Sichuan pepper, and you cook everything at the table. 🥢 MUST TRY: · Chongqing hotpot · Xiao mian · Grilled skewers · Sour and spicy noodles · Jiangtuan fish For attractions, check out Hongya Cave, Jiefangbei and the famous Liziba train station, where the metro passes directly through a residential building. FUN FACT: Chongqing is a municipality with a population larger than many countries, although its enormous administrative area includes both dense urban areas and large rural regions. BEST FOR: 🌶️ Hotpot 🌃 Night views 🚇 Unique city architecture 📸 Photography 🐼 8. GUANGZHOU Guangzhou is a fantastic choice if food is your main reason for traveling. This is one of the birthplaces of Cantonese cuisine, so dim sum culture is a huge part of the experience. Start your morning with a traditional dim sum meal and order several small dishes rather than just one. 🥟 MUST TRY: · Har gow · Siu mai · Char siu · Rice noodle rolls · Roast goose · Double-skin milk Beyond food, visit Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, explore Shamian Island and take an evening walk along the Pearl River. The city also makes a useful base for exploring other parts of Guangdong. FUN FACT: Cantonese cuisine is one of the most internationally recognized Chinese culinary traditions. BEST FOR: 🥟 Dim sum 🍵 Cantonese food 🏛️ Traditional architecture 🌃 Pearl River views 🏯 9. LUOYANG Luoyang is one of those destinations that history lovers should have on their radar. The Longmen Grottoes are the star attraction, with thousands of Buddhist statues carved into limestone cliffs along the Yi River. The scale is impressive, especially when you see the cliffs from the river. The city is also famous for its peony culture and long historical connection with several Chinese dynasties. 🍜 MUST TRY: · Luoyang water banquet · Beef soup · Luoyang noodles · Peony-themed local dishes FUN FACT: Luoyang is one of China’s ancient capitals and has played an important role in Chinese history for more than 1,000 years. BEST FOR: 🗿 Ancient history 🏯 Buddhist art 🌸 Peonies 🍜 Local cuisine 🌊 10. SUZHOU Suzhou is the place to go if you want a slower and more traditional atmosphere. The city is famous for classical Chinese gardens, canals and historic neighborhoods. Humble Administrator’s Garden is one of the most famous gardens, while Pingjiang Road is perfect for wandering through traditional streets beside canals. 🍜 MUST TRY: · Suzhou-style noodles · Sweet and savory pastries · Local river fish · Osmanthus-flavored desserts Take your time here. Suzhou isn’t really about rushing between ten attractions. It’s about walking through old streets, sitting beside the water and enjoying the atmosphere. FUN FACT: Suzhou’s classical gardens are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites. BEST FOR: 🌿 Classical gardens 🚣 Canals 🏮 Historic streets 🍵 Slow travel 🥢 11. CHANGSHA If you’re looking for a destination where street food is basically part of the nightlife, put Changsha on your list. The city is famous for bold Hunan cuisine, which is often spicy, aromatic and packed with fresh chilies. 🌶️ MUST TRY: · Stinky tofu · Changsha rice noodles · Hunan-style grilled dishes · Spicy crayfish · Chairman Mao’s braised pork Walk around Huangxing Road and Taiping Old Street for snacks, restaurants and late-night food. Changsha is also a good destination for travelers who want a more youthful Chinese city atmosphere. FUN FACT: Hunan cuisine is known for its use of fresh and dried chilies, creating a very different type of heat from Sichuan cuisine. BEST FOR: 🌶️ Spicy food 🍜 Rice noodles 🌙 Night markets 🏮 Street food 🌊 12. GUILIN + YANGSHUO For pure scenery, Guilin and Yangshuo are difficult to beat. The Li River is surrounded by the dramatic limestone karst mountains that have appeared in Chinese paintings and landscapes for centuries. A river cruise is the classic way to experience the scenery, but staying in Yangshuo gives you more time to explore. 🚲 Rent a bicycle, explore the countryside, take a bamboo raft or simply sit somewhere overlooking the mountains. 🍜 MUST TRY: · Guilin rice noodles · Beer fish · Stuffed river snails · Local rice wine FUN FACT: The landscape around Guilin has been celebrated in Chinese art and poetry for centuries. BEST FOR: 🏔️ Karst mountains 🚣 River scenery 🚲 Cycling 📸 Photography 🍜 THE CHINA FOOD CHEAT SHEET If you’re planning your trip around food, don’t just search for “Chinese food.” China has huge regional differences, and what you eat in Chengdu can be completely different from what you eat in Guangzhou or Beijing. 🌶️ SICHUAN: Hotpot, mapo tofu, dan dan noodles 🥟 BEIJING: Peking duck, jiaozi, zhajiangmian 🥢 CANTONESE: Dim sum, char siu, roast goose 🌶️ HUNAN: Stinky tofu, spicy fish, braised pork 🍜 SHAANXI: Biangbiang noodles, roujiamo, lamb dishes 🥟 SHANGHAI: Xiaolongbao, shengjian, scallion noodles 🍵 ZHEJIANG: Longjing tea, West Lake fish, Dongpo pork 🍜 CHONGQING: Hotpot, xiao mian, spicy noodles The biggest mistake is expecting “Chinese food” to taste the same everywhere. China is basically an entire collection of regional food cultures. 🗓️ WHEN SHOULD YOU GO? Spring and autumn are generally the easiest seasons for a China trip because temperatures are more comfortable for sightseeing. 🌸 March to May: Great for gardens, flowers, historic cities and outdoor attractions #chinaairlines #chinatravel #chinafood #chinesefood #chinatravelguide #beijing #chengdu #shanghai #xian #chongqing #zhangjiajie #guangzhou #chinatrip #travelchina #chinadestinations

🛵 WE FOUND OUR DREAM TRANSPORT IN YANGSHUO — AND IT COSTS AS MUCH AS LUNCH The primary way to get around Yangshuo is by e-bike. It’s honestly one of the most convenient ways to explore the area if you want to navigate between the mountains, villages, and local attractions on your own. E-bikes are literally everywhere here. We found an option for 30 yuan — about 390 rubles — for the entire day. We rented 2 bikes for 2 days. Total: 30 × 2 bikes × 2 days = 120 yuan, which is about 1,560 rubles for everything. What’s particularly convenient is that they didn’t ask for a passport or a deposit when we rented them. We simply arrived, took the bikes, paid, and headed out to explore Yangshuo. 😄 We used them to visit a huge number of beautiful spots and didn't regret our choice for a second. In Yangshuo, the formula is simple: mountains + e-bike + a great route = a perfect day 🏔️🛵

If you think we only came here for the glass bridge, you're mistaken. Ruyi Peak is a complete mountain park experience, and it all begins with a cable car ride. 🚠 And that's an adventure in itself! The cable car ride is quite long—about 2 kilometers. It climbs with a vertical rise of approximately 241 meters, and the trip takes about 10 minutes. During the entire ride, the stunning karst mountains of Yangshuo unfold right beneath you. Basically, the sightseeing starts before you even step out of the cabin. Once you reach the top, the route continues on foot. First, you'll cross a suspension bridge that connects the mountain peaks. Then, there are forest trails, viewing platforms, and the Ruyi Cloud Top—an observation deck offering panoramic views of Yangshuo. But then comes the highlight: the glass skywalk built right along the cliffside. It’s about 138 meters long. With a transparent floor under your feet and mountains and valleys all around. We did it all, of course. And honestly? The glass skywalk was less terrifying than we expected. 😂 But the most impressive part here isn't even the glass. It's the cable car ride and the views during the ascent. For 10 minutes, you’re essentially flying over the mountains, watching Yangshuo reveal itself as you climb higher and higher. You can cover the entire Ruyi Peak route in about 2–3 hours if you take your time and stop for photos. We came here by e-bike, and this spot is definitely worth adding to your Yangshuo itinerary. So, would you be brave enough to tackle the cable car, the suspension bridge, and finally the glass skywalk? 😄

Silver Cave is one of Yangshuo’s most iconic karst formations. It’s a massive underground realm filled with grand halls, winding galleries, and intricate stalactites and stalagmites. The name comes from its unique limestone formations—certain sections glitter and shimmer, especially when illuminated. Over eons, water slowly dissolved the limestone to create these vast underground voids, eventually giving rise to the stalactites and stalagmites we see today. The incredible natural wonders we admire in just a few minutes actually took an eternity to form. We snagged our tickets through Trip.com for around 700 rubles. Buying them directly at the counter would have cost 90 yuan—roughly 1,170 rubles. One major perk: it’s much cooler and more humid inside. After braving the Yangshuo heat, stepping inside feels like walking into a giant, natural air conditioner.

If you're visiting Yangshuo, don't limit yourself to just the town and a river cruise. You can spend three completely different days here: ride a bamboo raft through karst mountains, bike through rice fields, and spend a day in neighboring Xingping, home to some of China's most recognizable landscapes. Save this itinerary 👇 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌿 DAY 1 — YANGSHUO AND THE YULON RIVER It's best to devote the first day to Yangshuo itself and its surroundings. Take your time in the morning. This is the perfect time to enjoy the scenery rather than rushing around the sights. 🚲 MORNING — BIKE RIDE THROUGH RICE FIELDS Start your day with a ride along the Yulong River. Surrounded by green rice fields, small villages, farms, and enormous karst mountains that tower literally above the road. This is one of the best ways to see Yangshuo without having to drive. If you don't feel like pedaling all day, you can rent an electric bike. 📸 Tip: Leave early—the light is softer in the morning, there are fewer people, and the mountains are often shrouded in a light fog. 🛶 AFTERNOON — BAMBOO RAFTING And now, the reason many people come to Yangshuo in the first place. A ride on a traditional bamboo raft along the Yulong River. Imagine slowly floating along the calm water, surrounded by karst peaks, bamboo groves, and rice fields. No skyscrapers, traffic jams, or noise. Just the river and mountains. It's here that you can see why Yangshuo's landscapes are considered some of the most beautiful in China. 🍜 EVENING — WEST STREET After exploring nature, return to downtown Yangshuo. In the evening, West Street, the city's main tourist thoroughfare, comes alive. Here you can dine, sample local cuisine, buy souvenirs, and simply stroll. But don't leave the evening too late—tomorrow will be one of the most beautiful days of the trip. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🏞 DAY 2 — XINGPING: THE CHINA OF THE 20-YUAN BILL Xingping is located near Yangshuo, making it an ideal addition to a three-day itinerary. If I had to choose only one day to travel outside of Yangshuo, I'd choose this one. 🚕 MORNING – ROAD TO XINGPING You can get from Yangshuo to Xingping by bus or taxi/Didi. It's best to leave in the morning to have time to explore the town, take a river cruise, and climb the observation deck. 🏘️ XINGPING OLD TOWN Start with a stroll through Xingping's old town. It has a completely different atmosphere: small streets, traditional houses, local cafes, and a much more relaxed pace. Then head to the main attraction. 🛶 LI RIVER CRUISING This is where the real "wow" begins. Karst mountains rise straight out of the water, and the Li River flows between them. You can choose a bamboo raft ride or another river excursion option, depending on your chosen route. And the most interesting thing: 💴 One of the landscapes in the Xingping area is depicted on the Chinese 20 yuan banknote. Try to find that perfect angle. 📸 TIP: Take a 20 yuan bill with you and compare the image with the real landscape. ⛰️ DAYTIME - VIEWPOINT After the river, climb to one of the observation decks around Xingping. From above, the landscape looks even more expansive: the river meanders between dozens of karst peaks, and the small villages seem like toys. This view is worth setting aside a whole day for. 🌅 EVENING - BACK TO YANGSHUO After Xingping, return to Yangshuo. If you still have energy, head out for dinner and a stroll around the city. If not, just relax. After a day like this, that's a great plan. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌾 DAY 3 — RICE FIELDS, VILLAGES, AND PANORAMIC VIEWS We'll keep the third day quieter. Today, you can see Yangshuo from a different perspective—not from the water, but from the depths of the countryside. 🚲 MORNING — VILLAGES AROUND YANGSHUO Grab a bike or e-bike and head out along the rural roads. The route can be planned through small villages and rice fields. There's no "tourist attraction" feel here. You're simply driving along the road, and all around you are: 🌾 Rice fields 🏔️ Karst mountains 🌿 Bamboo groves 🏘️ Small villages 🐃 Rural landscapes And it's these moments that often become favorite memories of a trip. 🍜 AFTERNOON - LUNCH WITH A MOUNTAIN VIEW Don't rush back to the city. Choose a small cafe or restaurant with a mountain view and enjoy a long Chinese lunch. After two busy days, this is the perfect pace. 🌅 LATE EVENING - PANORAMIC VIEW Save a beautiful observation deck or spot overlooking the karst mountains for your last evening. Then return to Yangshuo for your final dinner. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📍 FINAL ITINERARY DAY 1 Yangshuo → Yulong River → Bamboo Raft → Rice Fields → West Street DAY 2 Yangshuo → Xingping → Old Town → Li River → Landscape from a 20-yuan note → Viewpoint → Yangshuo DAY 3 Yangshuo → Villages → Rice Fields → Bicycle → Panoramic Viewpoint → Yangshuo ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💡 HOW MANY DAYS DO YOU NEED TO SEE YANGSHUO? If you're short on time, you can visit for 2 days. But 3 days means you don't have to choose between the river, Xingping, or the countryside. And most importantly, don't try to fill every hour with excursions. Yangshuo is a place where it's worth setting aside time simply to bike through rice fields, stop by the river, drink tea, and gaze at the mountains. Because the road itself is a sight to behold. 🏔️ 📌 Save your itinerary if you're planning a trip to China.

Hi, friends!👋 Yangshuo isn't just "Little Guilin." It’s a separate universe where karst peaks are reflected in the rivers, rice paddies cascade down the hills, and the night comes alive with spectacular water shows. 🏞️✨ But to see the real Yangshuo, you need a plan.
