The renowned local bathhouse Notoya served as the prototype of the bathhouse in Hayao Miyazaki’s *Spirited Away*. Famous as a therapeutic hot spring resort back in the Edo period, it still retains its classic ancient charm today. Traditional wooden inns built from the Taisho era to early Showa era line both sides of the serene Ginzan River. The breathtaking twilight scenery with gas lamps glowing softly on misty stone paths and the stunning winter snowscapes are truly unmissable. Wander freely around the town and immerse yourself in old-world romance. It is also regarded as the prototype of the Swordsmith Village in the hit anime *Demon Slayer*. Nestled among mountains, this traditional town got its name from the silver mining prosperity in the 17th century, preserving authentic Taisho-era street views. Countless western-style wooden inns stand along Ginzan River, brimming with distinctive romantic vibes of the Taisho period. Covered in pure white snow in winter, the town evokes the snowy scenes seen in classic films. You will have two hours for sightseeing here. Apart from relaxing hot spring baths, do not miss the local specialty tempura soba noodles of Yamagata Prefecture. Stroll along the snow-blanketed streets with your beloved one and feel the tranquil romantic atmosphere. Trying foot baths and public hot springs is the greatest pleasure here. The free Waraku Foot Bath is located at the town entrance. Warm your cold feet after walking in the snow while admiring the beautiful snow views for ultimate relaxation.
