The best place to view Muztagh Ata is by the shores of Karakul Lake. However, catching a glimpse of Muztagh Ata requires luck. The weather at Karakul Lake can change at the slightest, bringing with it strong winds and dark clouds, completely obscuring the peak you long to see.
Sighing at the peak is a common occurrence near Karakul Lake. I traveled to Karakul Lake twice, but never had the chance to see Muztagh Ata in its entirety. So, it&#39;s important to maintain a calm mindset when traveling.

Karakul Lake is named &quot;Karakul&quot; for its deep, dark waters, which means &quot;Black Lake&quot; in the Kyrgyz language.

Karakul Lake is located along National Highway 314. Whether traveling from Kashgar to the Pamir Plateau or from Tashkurgan, you&#39;ll usually pass by here around noon.

The most surprising thing about this trip to Akto was staying at the breathtakingly beautiful Muyun Camp! Facing Karakul Lake and Muztagh Ata, waking up every day felt like stepping into a painting. 🎨

✨Room Guide:
1⃣️ Xiyu Quiet Twin Room: A great value option. While it doesn&#39;t have a lake view, the amenities are every bit as good (private bathroom, oxygen tank, humidifier, oxygen concentrator), perfect for a budget-friendly family.
2⃣️ Qiyun Jiubie Twin Room: Floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the snow-capped mountains and lake, allowing you to wake up in the morning and see the sun setting over the golden mountain.
3⃣️ Mufeng Lake View King Room: A must-see for couples! 180&deg; panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows make gazing at the stars from the terrace incredibly romantic.
4⃣️ Mufeng Quiet Family Room: Family-friendly, offering space for the whole family and large windows for a comfortable night&#39;s sleep.

🌄Photo Tips:
▫️ 7 AM: Take photos of the mirror-like lake and golden snow-capped mountain reflections from a lake view room
▫️ 4 PM: Take photos of your back as you walk towards the snow-capped mountains from the meadow in front of the camp
▫️ 10 PM: Use a tripod to capture the starry sky and snow-capped mountains together (remember to bring a thick jacket!)

🍴Foodie Tips:
The restaurant is open until 10 PM! We highly recommend the Xinjiang Big Plate Chicken and freshly baked naan. The Northeastern Chinese dish, sweet and sour pork, is surprisingly authentic. A bowl of hot cola and ginger soup is a lifesaver in the highlands (no low-sugar options in the plateau).

💡Practical Tips:
&bull; Don&#39;t panic if you have altitude sickness! Every room comes with an oxygen tank, and the front desk will ask if you have enough. How thoughtful!
&bull; Drones are currently prohibited from flying. It seems the ban is from September 17, 2025, to October 5, 2025. It&#39;s a shame! The camp also offers aerial photography services (the camp also offers Hanfu (Chinese traditional clothing) experiences &ndash; wearing brightly colored clothing makes for stunning photos).
&bull; Transportation: Charter a car from Kashgar for about 4 hours. Remember to download offline maps in advance.

🥛Iceberg milk tea: fermented with snow mountain yak milk, boiled with glacier water, with a mellow milky aroma and a long aftertaste.
