When you come to Mengzi, you must eat the most authentic chrysanthemum cross-bridge rice noodles. The house on fire is said to be the most famous. First buy the ticket at the counter, then go to the window to add 4-8 dishes according to the amount you bought, and finally add soup and rice noodles. The soup bowl is as big as a small wash basin, and you can't lift it without a lot of strength.
When passing through Mengzi, you must stop to eat a bowl of rice noodles. A local friend helped us find this chrysanthemum rice noodles with fire burning house. There are indeed a lot of chrysanthemums, but I don’t know what “fire burning house” means. There are several prices of rice noodles, ranging from a dozen yuan to hundreds of yuan. The difference lies in the number of toppings. The local friend said that the 23 yuan one is just right, with 6 kinds of toppings, because there is a large condiment table next to it, with more than a dozen things, but how to put each thing and how much to put is indeed a technical job.
Guoqiao rice noodles are mainly made of soup, meat slices, rice noodles and condiments. The soup is made from fat chicken, pork leg bones, etc., and the clear and transparent one is preferred; the meat slices are made from chicken breast, pork tenderloin, liver, kidney, fresh fish, ham, loach, etc., cut into thin slices and placed on a plate; the rice noodles are thin, white and tough; the condiments are made from pea tips, yellow leek (leek moss or leek), young spinach, cabbage heart, etc., which are blanched in boiling water and cut into four-centimeter long sections; and chopped green onions, bean sprouts, tofu skin, magnolia slices, etc. are added. This small shop, very close to the east gate of Chaoyang Tower, mainly sells desserts. My friends love their tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) cooked in white wine. They're essentially rice dumplings made with fermented glutinous rice, but these are solid and sticky. Paired with the sweet fermented glutinous rice, they're incredibly delicious. We spent a day in Jianshui and ate there several times. Highly recommended!
