Hegra
Hegra is located in a desert oasis in northwestern Saudi Arabia, north of Al Ula. Two thousand years ago, it served as the southern capital of the Nabataean Kingdom, becoming an important stop for passing caravans due to its oasis water source. Its method of carving tombs into mountains is directly linked to Petra in Jordan. Among the ochre-red sandstone mountains, over a hundred monumental Nabataean rock-cut tombs are well-preserved. Dozens of these tomb facades feature stepped crenellations, cornices, and pilasters, with Nabataean inscriptions above the lintels still clearly legible today. Entering through the same gate as the Yue Rong Zhuang Hotel, security asked if I had purchased a concert ticket (reservation fee 95 SAR). I don't know how others got in, or if they all paid for it. Here's a picture from the back; there's a door at the front, and a bunch of Chinese people were crowding there taking pictures.

A newly built ancient city, it's very interesting to walk around. There is a parking lot next to it, and there are free minibuses or eco-friendly cars to pick you up. It's actually very close, about ten minutes walk. There are Internet-famous restaurants here, but without accommodation, dinner is a bit inconvenient.

There is no charge here, but it feels like the most worthwhile place in Alula. Driving here doesn't feel like being on Earth. The whole journey is stunning. Stopping to take pictures along the way is a great movie.
Overlooking the entire city from the lookout point, all the huge rocks are at your feet. Everything is worth it.
