Tang An Dong Village is hidden deep within the mountains of Qiandongnan. It is nestled on a mountainside, surrounded by mountains on three sides, and connected to open terraced fields on the other, with the mountains and farmland together forming the natural environment surrounding the village. Most of the village's dwellings are scattered along the mountain terrain, primarily in the form of wooden stilt houses, with stone paths connecting the houses. Traditional living facilities such as the Drum Tower, opera stage, song platform, village gate, ancient gourd well, water mill, and granaries collectively form the village space. The village also preserves a Qing Dynasty cemetery, where the tombstones are exquisitely carved with dragon and phoenix motifs and scrolling grass patterns, serving as a sample of Dong stone craftsmanship. The architecture reflects the characteristics of Dong construction while also preserving traces of past production and daily life.Liping · 35.1 km from Congjiang

Solitary Beauty Peak Prince City Scenic Area, with a history dating back over 600 years to the Hongwu era of the Ming dynasty, was originally built by Zhu Yuanzhang for his grandnephew Zhu Shouqian as a princely city. Today, it is a national 5a-level attraction in guilin, with the solitary beauty peak serving as its iconic landmark. The Solitary Beauty Peak Prince City Scenic Area showcases a harmonious blend of natural landscapes and historical cultural views, embodying the concept of "a city within scenery and scenery within a city." It serves as a microcosm of Guilin, a world-renowned city celebrated for its picturesque landscapes and rich history. The famous saying "Guilin's scenery is peerless in the world," known globally, originates from the stone wall of Solitary Beauty Peak. Encompassing Guilin's three major historical and cultural systems, the attraction stands as a quintessential representation of Guilin's heritage. Entering this scenic area is like stepping through the gateway to Guilin's history and culture, giving rise to the widely circulated phrase: "Guilin's scenery is peerless in the world, and to know Guilin is to explore Prince City." As early as the Southern and Northern Dynasties period, renowned scholar Yan Yanzhi studied and composed poetry at the foot of Solitary Beauty Peak, initiating the literary tradition of the Lingnan region. During the Tang Dynasty, the first official educational institution in Guangxi's history was established here. In the Song Dynasty, Wang Zhenggong engraved the timeless phrase "Guilin's scenery is peerless under heaven" on the peak, which became the city's most representative slogan. The Ming Dynasty saw military strategist Liu Bowen recognizing Solitary Beauty Peak's auspicious location, leading to the construction of the Prince of Jingjiang's Mansion. During the Qing Dynasty, the mansion was converted into Guangxi's imperial examination hall, becoming a major testing center in southwest China that produced 585 jinshi (metropolitan graduates) and 4 zhuangyuan (top scholars), including one who achieved the rare "triple first" honor. In the Republican era, Sun Yat-sen established his Northern Expedition headquarters here. In 1954, Guangxi Normal University relocated to this site. The Solitary Beauty Peak Prince City Scenic Area has not only nurtured exceptional talents but also served as Guangxi's political, economic, and cultural center throughout history. Solitary Beauty Peak Standing solitary in the center of Guilin, Solitary Beauty Peak rises abruptly from the ground as the king of all mountains in the area. Ascending to its summit offers a panoramic view of the entire city of Guilin, embodying the majestic sentiment of "overlooking all surrounding peaks." It has been honored as the "Pillar of Southern Sky." As early as the Southern Dynasties period, renowned scholar Yan Yanzhi praised its grandeur in his poem: "None rivals Duxiu's majesty, towering above the city walls." Solitary beauty peak prince city scenic area The prince of Jingjiang mansion is the best-preserved princely relic in china and serves as the core attraction within the Solitary Beauty Peak Prince City Scenic Area. The prince of Jingjiang mansion museum, also known as the "chengyun hall," was where ancient princes handled administrative affairs. Today, the museum showcases the history of the prince of jingjiang mansion and the transformation of guilin. Visitors can explore through high-tech holographic projections and 3d displays, and even experience the ancient art of rubbing at the "prince mansion rubbing workshop."Solitary Beauty Peak cliff carvings On the cliffs of Solitary Beauty Peak, there are approx. 200 cliff carvings preserved from various dynasties, including the famous ancient saying "Guilin's scenery is peerless in the world". The site also features numerous precious buddha and tai sui stone carvings, as well as the five blessings series which appeared on the 2017 cctv spring festival gala. It is now a nationally protected cultural relic. Secret rubbings of the prince's mansion The secret rubbing technique of the Prince's Mansion has a history of over a hundred years. It is a colored feng shui rubbing craft developed by Zhu Zaojing, the third-generation Prince of Jingjiang, and has now been listed as an intangible cultural heritage. Visitors can experience this ancient rubbing technique here. Learning to create the Prince's Mansion secret rubbings holds significant value for the inheritance and development of Chinese historical culture and folk art.China · Guilin

Yulong River Rafting is the classic way to experience the Yulong River in Yangshuo. The Yulong River, a tributary of the Li River in Yangshuo, is often called the "Little Li River," with clear waters and a gentle flow year-round. Unlike the motorized rafts on the Li River, here the traditional method of poling bamboo rafts by hand is preserved. The rafts drift slowly downstream without the noise of engines, so quiet that you can hear the soft sound of the pole dipping into the water. Along the banks, karst peaks roll endlessly, while rice fields, villages, and waterwheels unfold one after another—a real-life scene of "a boat gliding on emerald waves, people wandering in a painting." During the rafting journey, you'll pass by ancient stone bridges like Yulong bridge and Fuli bridge built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Fuli bridge features a single arch, with its reflection forming a perfect circle in the water—especially photogenic in morning mist. The Jiuxian village area retains old residences and ancient alleys. Multiple dams along the river create signature moments of excitement as rafts plunge over them, splashing water for brief seconds. The river offers two distinct sections: The upper section from Jinlong bridge to Jiuxian has more dams and pristine pastoral scenery, while the lower section starting from Jima and Shui'edi docks is closer to Ten-mile gallery, conveniently connecting with nearby attractions. Visitors can choose either half or full routes based on time and energy. When riding bamboo rafts through dams, clothes may easily get splashed, so remember to waterproof your phone and other personal items; during holidays, rafts get crowded—if you want to take serene landscape photos, consider setting off early.China · Yangshuo

Qingyan Ancient Town

Qingyan Ancient Town is located in Huaxi District, the southern suburb of Guiyang, and is known as one of Guizhou's four ancient towns alongside Zhenyuan, Bing'an, and Longli. Established during the Ming Dynasty as a military stronghold, the town preserves numerous well-maintained ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing periods. The filming of the movie "The Missing Gun" brought Qingyan Ancient Town to wider recognition. The ancient town's architecture follows the natural mountain contours, with its city walls built from massive stones on cliffs. It features four city gates at the east, west, south, and north. The exquisite stone and wood carvings in the town's buildings are a major highlight. The south gate of the ancient town, Dingguang gate, is the most magnificent among the four main gates. Historically, it served as the first gateway guarding the southern entrance to Guiyang. The towering gate tower and city walls built with massive stones, along with the winding flagstone path outside the town and surrounding farmland, create a spectacular landscape. Many promotional photos of Qingyan ancient town are taken here. Entering the ancient town through Dingguang gate, the first sight is the Zhaolilun centenarian memorial archway. Built by imperial decree during Emperor Daoguang's reign in the Qing dynasty, this archway features an unusual design - the stone lions carved on its four pillars are upside down compared to conventional ones, creating a peculiar sight. Walking along the ancient stone-paved post road, you'll find shops on both sides selling local specialties. Unique snacks like braised pig's feet, grilled tofu, and rose candy offer distinctive flavors worth trying when you need a break from exploring. The ancient post road winding from the south gate to the north gate serves as both the central axis and main street of the ancient town. Divided by the ancient cultural square at the town center, the northern section is called North Street while the southern section is named South Street. Intersecting with the main street are East Street to the east and West Street to the west. Following East Street eastward leads to Wenchang Pavilion at No. 143, a brick-and-wood structure built during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. This octagonal pavilion with multiple eaves was constructed against the mountain slope and served as a gathering place for scholars to study, socialize, and worship the Wenchang deity - visitors may also pay their respects if interested. Heading west along the main street, you'll reach various distinctive religious buildings in Qingyan Ancient Town, including Yingxiang Temple, Ciyun Temple, Wanshou Palace, and the Catholic Church, all exquisitely crafted and perfect for photography. Between South Street and West Street lies a quiet alley called Back Street. This stone-paved lane is one of the most characteristic features of Qingyan Ancient Town, with its bluish-black flagstones polished smooth by centuries of use, reflecting light like mirrors to create a profound sense of tranquility. The narrow, serene path follows the mountain's contours, flanked by layered slate walls, making it an ideal photography spot. The streets and alleys in Qingyan ancient town are deep and winding, but there are signposts on the main street and at every important intersection. Moreover, most lanes can loop back to the main street, so you don't need to worry about getting lost while exploring the ancient town.China · Guiyang

The elementary school Chinese textbook's phrase "Guilin's scenery is peerless in the world" refers precisely to cruising the Li River. With its majestic, uniquely shaped peaks lining both banks, this area represents the essence of Guilin's landscape. Spanning a hundred kilometers like an unfolding scroll painting, every bend reveals scenes resembling classic Chinese ink wash paintings. The Li River Scenic Area features emerald peaks flanking winding waters, steep gorges with cascading waterfalls, lush islets amid rushing rapids, and extraordinary caves with striking rock formations. Along its course lie dozens of famous attractions: Chinese tallow tree beach, nine oxen and three islets, bat mountain, waiting husband rock, grassland scenery, crown cave, embroidered hill, half-side ferry, immortal's millstone, Yangdi scenery, carp clinging to cliff, wave stone wonder, lower dragon bay, chicken coop mountain, eight immortals crossing, five-finger mountain, climbing turtle, nine-horse mural hill (featured on the 20 CNY banknote), camel crossing river, court tablet hill, Xingping's finest view, snail hill, fishing village, dragon head mountain, and more. The main ways to explore the Li River scenic area are by boat, bamboo raft, or hiking, including three-star and four-star Li River cruises, bamboo raft tours, and Xingping fishing village boat tours.China · Yangshuo

It's a free attraction, and quite nice, better than Zhaoxing Dong Village. It's a very primitive village. Remember to find the right angle; the photos turn out quite well. Because we got up late, we arrived there in the afternoon and found a restaurant to eat at. Many shops there sell nice handmade ornaments, trinkets, and sachets. We didn't climb to the very top of the village; the first half was better.

A regular ticket is sufficient, as you'll find that there's simply not enough time to visit the paid attractions if you go at midday. Also, you must bring a film camera next to the Fast sign. It must be a battery-free film camera with manual metering. If possible, bring your own film, as film cameras at the attraction aren't cheap—300 yuan for 36 exposures.

I hiked from Shuiedi to Gongnong Bridge, a relatively short route that takes about 30-40 minutes. The scenery along the way was beautiful, with four drops. Luckily, I bought a disposable raincoat to cover my lower body, so my pants didn't get too wet, although my upper body and face were partially soaked.

Fenghuang Ancient Town, located in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, is a border town renowned for its literary significance. A national 5A-level tourist attraction, it was praised by New Zealand writer Rewi Alley as "China's most beautiful small town." The Tuojiang River flows gently through the town, with stilted houses standing along its banks and winding ancient cobblestone alleys. This is the spiritual home of Shen Congwen's novel "Border Town," harboring unique Xiangxi charm. In the morning, a thin mist blankets the river; at night, lights reflect on the water. The landscape and culture blend seamlessly, half poetic, half down-to-earth; every step reveals the gentle warmth of time. #TravelRecommendationOfficer #HealingScenery #FenghuangAncientTown #XiangxiTourism

Not far from Guiyang, this ancient town offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The "Defend Qingyan" activity immerses you in the atmosphere of the revolutionary war. While the main street is teeming with tourists, a stroll into the side alleys allows for a quieter appreciation of the century-old buildings. The pig's trotters in the food street are a specialty and definitely worth trying.
