Piazza del Duomo is located in the heart of the historic center of Florence, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982. The square has been the city's religious center since the Middle Ages. In the late 13th century, surrounding residential buildings were demolished to build the new cathedral and bell tower, and it was gradually expanded over the following centuries to its current size. The square brings together three iconic buildings: theCathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower, and The Baptistery of San Giovanni. Together, they form the "Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore complex," showcasing the evolution of architectural art in Florence from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The dome designed by Brunelleschi stands over 90 m high and is a striking visual focal point on the square's skyline. Historic buildings such as the Archbishop's Palace, the Cathedral Museum, and the Bigallo Museum are also located around the square. Standing in the center of the square and looking around, the facades of buildings from different eras and styles complement each other, making it a key location for experiencing the urban landscape of Florence.Italy · Florence

Piazza del Duomo is located in the center of Milan, surrounded by many important buildings, including the landmark of Milan, the cathedral. The square gradually developed with the construction of the cathedral and was named after it. In the center of the square stands the equestrian bronze statue of Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. Around the square, there are also a series of important buildings such as the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the neoclassical-style royal palace, and the cathedral museum. On the square, you can see flocks of leisurely strolling pigeons, and sometimes in the evening, you may encounter impromptu street performances. The area near the square is home to many shopping malls, boutiques, and high-end restaurants, making it a well-known leisure and shopping district in Milan.Milan · 94.4 km from Costa

Gallery of the Academy of Florence

4.5/5

The Gallery of the Academy of Florence was established in 1784 by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo of Tuscany through the reorganization of Florence's art education institutions. It is located on the former sites of the San Matteo Hospital and the San Niccolò Monastery, with its origins tracing back to the Academy of Drawing Arts founded by Cosimo I de' Medici in 1563. The gallery's collection initially served as a teaching resource for students to copy original works. In 1873, to protect Michelangelo's David from exposure to the elements in Piazza della Signoria, the statue was secured on a wooden cart and transported through the center of Florence to the gallery. As the dedicated exhibition hall was not yet completed, it remained sealed in a wooden crate for nine years until the Tribune of David, designed by architect Emilio De Fabris, was finished and opened to the public. Today, David stands bathed in natural light from the skylight above, drawing countless visitors who come specifically to see it. The museum also displays a concentrated collection of Michelangelo's four unfinished sculptures, "The Prisoners," originally carved for Pope Julius II's tomb, along with the equally incomplete "St. Matthew." The human figures appear to be breaking free from the rough stone, offering a direct experience of his "unfinished" sculptural language. At the center of the Hall of the Colossus near the entrance stands Giambologna's full-scale terracotta model for the marble group "The Rape of the Sabine Women," created for the Loggia dei Lanzi. Surrounding it are 15th- to 16th-century Florentine paintings by Botticelli, Perugino, Filippino Lippi, and others. The 19th-century hall, originally a women's hospital ward, now replicates the studio of Lorenzo Bartolini, displaying plaster models. The museum also houses a musical instruments section, featuring a Stradivari viola and cello once owned by the Medici family, as well as early keyboard instruments made by Bartolomeo Cristofori, the inventor of the piano. The visitor route extends from the Hall of the Colossus at the entrance to the Hall of David at the end. Most travelers turn back to the exit after seeing "David," leaving the painting galleries and the musical instrument department on both sides with sparse crowds, making them great places for quiet art viewing. The museum is not large and has a clear layout. Long queues at the entrance are common during the peak season, but the painting galleries and musical instrument exhibition areas are less crowded and worth visiting as well.Italy · Florence

Santa Maria delle Grazie is located in the west of Milan, on the south side of the Sforza Castle. This red Catholic building consists of a church and a Dominican monastery. It is famous for the fresco "The Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci in the monastery's refectory. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. . The Last Supper "The Last Supper" was created by Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century, using innovative and bold painting techniques combining oil and tempera, creating a unique perspective effect, but also easily eroded. On August 15, 1943, the church and the congregation were bombed by British and American aircraft, and most of the canteen of the congregation was destroyed, but the wall on which The Last Supper was located survived. Centuries later, 80 percent of the painting's colors had faded, and restoration work began in 1977 and continued for 22 years. At present, the number of visitors is strictly controlled, and the number of visitors cannot exceed 30 at a time. In addition to the "Last Supper", the church building itself is also worth seeing. The church was built under the auspices of Duke Sforzesco and was finally completed in 1490. It was once used as the tomb of the Sforzesco family. Later, when the French invaded, the cultural relics and treasures in the church were looted, but the exquisite dome and frescoes were still preserved. The sacristy is now the Dominican cultural center, and often holds some salons and art exhibitions.Milan · 94.7 km from Costa

The Last Supper is a mural painting by the Italian High Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci, dated to c. 1495–1498, housed in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. The painting represents the scene of the Last Supper of Jesus with the Twelve Apostles, as it is told in the Gospel of John – specifically the moment after Jesus announces that one of his apostles will betray him. Its handling of space, mastery of perspective, treatment of motion and complex display of human emotion has made it one of the Western world's recognizable paintings and among Leonardo's celebrated works. Some commentators consider it pivotal in inaugurating the transition into what is now termed the High Renaissance.Milan · 94.8 km from Costa

The queue was quite long, and you need to make sure you're in the correct line before you start queuing… Queues at tourist attractions in Europe often consist of several separate lines with unclear signage. I didn't choose to climb the bell tower or the dome, but the museum included in the ticket is worth a good look; personally, I felt the environment was quite nice.

Landmark Significance: As the city center of Milan, the square is an irregularly shaped polygon covering approximately 12,000 square meters. It was the coronation site of the first king after the unification of Italy (Napoleon was crowned here in 1805) and is now part of a World Heritage Site.

The explanation was incredibly detailed and insightful; it truly lives up to its reputation as a World Heritage Site. Thank you to the Medici family for their wise decision to leave us such priceless treasures. Exploring the world on foot, I successfully checked off this charming and artistically rich ancient city. I love it! 😻

Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular mountain destinations, offering an unforgettable experience high in the Swiss Alps. Surrounded by magnificent snow-covered peaks, vast glaciers, and breathtaking alpine scenery, the journey to the summit is an adventure itself. The panoramic views from the top are truly mesmerizing, especially on a clear day when the mountains seem to stretch endlessly into the horizon. Walking through the snowy landscape feels like entering a winter wonderland. The impressive Aletsch Glacier adds even more beauty to the experience. Jungfraujoch is a must-visit destination for travelers who love mountains, snow, photography, and extraordinary natural landscapes.
