Cozumel Islandis located in the Caribbean Sea off the east coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, south of Cancun, with ferries running to and from Playa del Carmen on the opposite shore. The island's name is derived from Mayan and means Island of the Swallows; the main town, San Miguel, is built along the coast, and its waterfront promenade is lined with restaurants and shops, making it the first stop for most visitors upon arrival. Diving is the island's signature activity: the coral reefs off the west coast are part of the extensive Central American Barrier Reef System, and Palancar Reef is especially well-known thanks to the high praise it received from ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau. Stable nearshore currents have created a unique drift diving experience, allowing you to float along with the current past coral walls, sponge forests, and areas frequented by sea turtles; if you prefer not to scuba dive, you can also take a boat to the El Cielo sandbar on the south side, where the water is waist-deep and teeming with starfish, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and photography.Mexico · Cozumel

5.0
Cozumel (from the Maya for swallow island; modern Mayan: kùutsmil) is an island in the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of the eastern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. This island is off the coast of the city of Playa del Carmen and adjacent to the South of the Yucatan. Cozumel is a municipality of 8 municipalities (municipios) in the state of Quintana Roo. The island was designated as a national park in 1996. Calm beaches and clear seas make Cozumel a top destination for scuba diving and snorkeling. The main town on the island is called San Miguel de Cozumel.

Wish I was able to get more photos of this place, but it is fantastic! We had free food and free drinks included with just regular entrance to the park. The place is very big and looks gorgeous. It offers all sorts of activities to do all over, and it has a very cool/refreshing natural pool to jump into. The quality of the food (which all the restaurants are buffets) is really well made and tastes great! It's fun for the whole family!

This park is absolutely fantastic! It's definitely one of the best places to visit in the Americas. If you're a fast-paced young person, you can just buy an afternoon ticket, plus a shuttle bus from your hotel. Enter the park at 4 PM, walk the black line, then the white line, then the red line, then the green line, and finally the blue line back to the black line, arriving just in time for the show at 7 PM. The show is two hours long, covering everything from Mayan culture to modern Mexican dance and song – well worth seeing. The cutest animals in the park are the flamingos, tapirs, and red parrots – they're even bigger and cuter than I expected.

This is the birthplace of Mayan culture. You can explore the mysterious adventure charm of cave diving. It attracts diving enthusiasts from all over the world every year. The water under the cave is blue and there are many mysterious melt cave rock landscapes below.
