The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

5.2
3.9/5
69 reviews
The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is located in downtown Dallas. The museum is housed in the former Texas School Book Depository building, where the gunman took position during the Kennedy assassination. The exhibition space is located on the sixth floor of the building, which is how the museum got its name. The permanent exhibition, "John F. Kennedy and the Memory of a Nation," follows a timeline: it begins with Kennedy's term in office and society in the United States in the 1960s, traces the planning and events of that trip to Dallas, and then extends to the crisis moments after the incident, the investigation process, the funeral in Washington D.C., and the reactions from around the world. A significant highlight of the museum is the sniper's perch in the corner of the sixth floor, which has been restored to its original state based on photos from the scene and is protected by glass. The stacked textbook boxes and the original floorboards from that time have been preserved. Standing in front of the window next to the sniper's perch, you can overlook Dealey Plaza below and the route the motorcade took, which matches the classic footage from documentaries. The museum also displays a scale model of Dealey Plaza used by the Warren Commission during its investigation, various cameras used by members of the public to capture key footage at the scene, as well as radio recordings from the time of the incident, investigation documents, and the Russian note Oswald left for his wife before the incident. The final section of the exhibition presents the various subsequent investigations and debates surrounding the event from an objective standpoint. The seventh floor features a special exhibition space for further viewing. The exhibition is laid out in chronological order and is information-dense. After finishing your visit, you might want to take a walk around Dealey Plaza downstairs. The "X" marked on the pavement of Elm Street indicating the location of the shooting, along with the Grassy Knoll and other on-site remnants, can help you form a more complete historical picture by comparing them with what you saw in the museum.Dallas · 751m from downtown

American Airlines Center

4.5/5
45 reviews
American Airlines Center is the shared home arena for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks (formerly known in Chinese as the "Little Mavericks") and the NHL's Dallas Stars. Its exterior does not follow the common modern sci-fi style; instead, it features a red brick facade with wide-span arches, a curved roof, and the American Airlines naming rights, leading fans to affectionately call it "The Hangar." The arena can accommodate approx. 20,000 spectators, hosting a rotation of basketball games, hockey games, concerts, and even combat sports. The arena has hosted the NBA Finals multiple times, held the 2011 championship celebration for the Mavericks, and hosted the 2007 NHL All-Star Game. The PNC Plaza on the south side is the main entrance, where Dirk Nowitzki's iconic one-legged fadeaway statue stands between the fountain and the giant screen—this legend, who played for the team for 21 seasons, earned the arena the nickname "The House That Dirk Built." In front of the other entrance stands a statue of hockey legend Mike Modano. Even without a game or performance, visiting the plaza to take photos with the two statues is a standard itinerary for fans.Dallas · 1.5 km from downtown

Located in downtown Dallas, JFK is still very important to Americans. There is a constant stream of Americans coming here. To Chinese people who are not familiar with the history of this place, it is just a square box. The old red museum next to it is also very nice.
