Reviews: Mauritius: Le Morne Brabant UNESCO Hike with Local Guide
Guest User2026-03-01
We had a great guide, Elando, who took great care of the participants. It was great that the trip started early in the morning. The views along the way were beautiful, but the view was spectacular only at the very top. The route was quite demanding, especially on the descent. Overall, I recommend the trip for the views. Comfortable shoes and at least 1.5 liters of water are essential, as it's quite hot.
Reviews: Mauritius: 5 Islands of the East Speedboat Tour with BBQ

We did have to wait a bit at first, and the trip didn't start until 9:00 AM, not 8:30 AM as described, but at least there were seats in the shade. We really enjoyed the tour itself; the speedboat ride was a lot of fun, and while the stops were all quite short, they were usually sufficient, so it never got boring. You have to be aware that there are lots of other people everywhere, but that's pretty much the norm at tourist hotspots. We even saw a turtle and two dolphins on our trip. Our guide kept a special lookout, sometimes even turning off the engine or slowly approaching the animals from each side so everyone on the boat could see them. There were monkeys too, of course. The snorkeling spot wasn't the best, and there were already quite a few catamarans there. But the barbecue afterward was really delicious. Lots of fish and meat—you definitely won't go hungry.

Although our taxi driver dropped us off at the wrong place, the local skippers managed to arrange for us to be picked up by a separate boat and taken to the catamaran. The tour was lovely, we saw dolphins, the atmosphere was great, and plenty of drinks were provided. The barbecue lunch was also delicious and plentiful for everyone. Overall, we were well entertained and looked after, making for a wonderful excursion.

What a super place to visit and the ticket price helps to keep tbe reserve going. Booked tickets for a hike after reading that you could get a short guided tour across the flycatcher walkway, when we got there the lady in the ticket desk actually explained it was a self guided tour but there might be a guide hanging around by the Flycatcher walkway.. She radioed ahead and said if we could be there by 1230 then a guide would help us.. We were really lucky to get Damien as our guide and as it was only me and my husband we could ask him lots of questions.. Damien was such a good guide, very knowledgeable and funny and told us all about Mauritius and it's flora and fauna and how they are trying to rewild indigenous plants at the reserve, if we hadn't have had a guide we would have missed out on so much. Had a lovely hike up the the Ridgeway trail to the lookout which gives some exceptional views of La Morne and Île aux Benetiers and enjoyed meeting several giant tortoise on the way. The museum was also worthwhile and overall the whole experience was very good, so much better than the 7 coloured sands park next door which is very touristy.. A small coffee shop and somewhere to sit after your hike would be the only improvement to make.
