Itinerary
Experience the best of Nagano on this premium small-group tour (typically 6–8 guests, maximum 12), blending natural wonders, local culture, and great food. Travel with an English-speaking guide in a comfortable vehicle as you explore some of the region's most loved highlights in one relaxed day.

Meet your guide at Nagano Station and drive through the countryside to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, home to Japan's famous hot-spring-loving macaques. Follow a peaceful 30–40 minute forest trail while your guide shares stories about the area and its wildlife. In winter, the snowy landscape feels especially magical—please wear warm, non-slip footwear. Enjoy time at the hot spring area watching the monkeys up close and taking unforgettable photos.

Next, continue to the historic town of Obuse, once a thriving merchant hub. Enjoy lunch at a handpicked local restaurant featuring Nagano flavors, with options such as chicken or pork dishes—or a vegetarian meal made with local produce.

After lunch, discover Obuse's cultural side. Visit a historic sake brewery for a relaxed tasting of two premium varieties while learning how Nagano's pure mountain water and high-quality rice shape local brewing traditions. Then take time to stroll Obuse's charming streets, lined with traditional shops, artisanal stores, and cozy cafés.

A highlight for art lovers is the Hokusai Museum, dedicated to ukiyo-e master Katsushika Hokusai. While the entrance fee is not included, exploring Hokusai's world and Obuse's deep connection to his later life is a memorable part of the day. Your guide can also point you to local treats such as chestnut sweets—one of Obuse's specialties.

Zenkoji option (8:45 AM departure only): Guests on the 8:45 AM schedule can either return directly to Nagano Station around 3:30 PM, or choose to be dropped off at Zenkoji Temple—one of Japan's most important Buddhist sites. From there, you can stroll Nakamise Street, browse traditional shops and teahouses, and enjoy the temple's calm atmosphere before making your own way back to the station. Guests on the 9:35 AM departure return to Nagano Station only (Zenkoji drop-off is not available on this schedule).

This tour gently combines nature, food, art, and a touch of history—offering a well-balanced day in Nagano's beautiful countryside and historic towns, from playful snow monkeys and the world of Hokusai to local sake and the timeless streets of Obuse.
