Reviews: Annual Admission Newcastle Castle Ticket

Lace up those walking shoes and prepare your calves for the ultimate stairmaster challenge—Newcastle Castle doesn’t just have history, it has elevation. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to do leg day in a centuries-old fortress, this is the spot for you. From the moment you spot the entrance—perched suspiciously high—you know you’re in for it. But like a true adventurer (or someone who refuses to turn back once committed), you begin the ascent. And just when you think you’ve earned a break, you’re greeted by the hilariously cruel sign: “99 steps to the best views in Newcastle.” At that point, your legs are too invested to quit, and your pride says, “We’re doing this.” Each staircase leads to a new room full of fascinating tidbits about medieval life, assuming you can focus on reading while catching your breath. It’s easy to lose track of time as you explore—and possibly lose your sense of direction, thanks to the twisty layout and a slight case of stair-induced dizziness. But the payoff? Sweeping views of the Tyne Bridge, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, and the charming sprawl of Newcastle. Totally worth the quad burn. Just a heads-up: being around 850 years old, the castle isn’t exactly a model of accessibility. So if stairs aren’t your thing, this may not be your ideal destination. But for the rest of us? It's history with a side of cardio. Bring water. And maybe a sherpa.
Reviews: Guided City Walking Tour of Newcastle

We had such fun on the tour, with our tour guide Rob. Everything was so interesting, and relaxing. We bought bits and pieces of bibs along the way, like sausage rolls, and pease pudding. Stotties! Rob is very happy for you to ask questions, and has a great sense of humour. He is interested in his guests too, which was nice I learnt things about Newcastle that I wasn’t expecting at all. And inspired me to come back. I highly recommend this tour Good value for money, because you get a really substantial amount of time together. Is not too exhausting. But you visit key areas of the city. It’s also a lovely way to get to know other people who are visiting Newcastle

On the subject of Newcastle history Martin is an extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. Apart from the local historic content we enjoyed his more personal anecdotes regarding how a Bristolian man came to marry a Geordie lass. Thankyou Martin! The history around the Cloth Market, Bigg market, Groat market and a visit to one of the first Marks and Spencer stores gave a real feel of a great trip to the Northeast

Rob was an excellent, very knowledgeable, very friendly, very engaging guide. Probably the best guide we’ve ever had and we will definitely be recommending him to anyone who comes to Newcastle! If we could give 6 stars we would.

Our guide Amanda was fantastic, very knowledgeable, great anecdotes, and provided the perfect introduction to this beautiful city of Newcastle upon Tyne. We were introduced to so many wonderful areas of the city, places we probably would not have found on our own without a guide, such as the Black Friars, Bigg Market, and the Central Arcade. Finishing the tour on the Quayside with the view of and the history of the bridges of Newcastle, was a perfect end point. The microphone system worked brilliantly, I am hearing impaired and had no difficulties hearing and understanding Amanda, for the entire tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting or living in Newcastle. We can always learn something new and this is a great introduction or reintroduction to a beautiful and culturally rich city.
