Sanmenhai Area

4.5/5
907 reviews
Nestled among the karst peaks of Fengshan County, Hechi, Guangxi, the Sanmenhai Area is a cluster of collapsed skylights connected by an underground river. The cave ceilings collapsed and linked with the surface, leaving seven skylights arranged like a string of beads resembling the Big Dipper, with three currently accessible by boat. The journey begins on a bright lake before entering a dark cave, then emerging back into the light, with the scenery of mountains, water, caves, and sky alternating before your eyes—creating the illusion of "seas within mountains and gates above seas," which inspired the name Sanmenhai. Geologists and cave researchers call this skylight cluster the "Window of the World" and the "Karst Geology Museum," as it remains largely untouched by human development. During the boat tour, the first stretch of water forms a lake encircled by cliffs, its surface a deep blue. The second skylight, known as the "Half-moon Skylight," reveals a rock opening resembling a crescent moon hanging above. The innermost skylight passage is deep and maintains a constant temperature—warm in winter and cool in summer. When sunlight slants through the opening onto the water, the turquoise lake and submerged rock walls reflect like a piece of jade immersed in water. The tour is primarily by boat, alternating between bright lakes and dark caves. Each passage through shadowy waterways is met with light from the skylights, offering perfect photo opportunities on sunny days when the water displays distinct layers of color. Due to its remote location, a round-trip to Fengshan town requires planning for travel time. The experience is boat-centric and pairs well with other karst views in the county on the same day.Fengshan · 15.5 km from downtown

Jiangzhou Underground Corridor

Jiangzhou Underground Corridor is an ultra-long cave system hidden deep in northwestern Guangxi, developed within ancient Permian soluble rock strata, with the explored dry cave section alone stretching over 50 km, ranking among the top explored caves in the country. The entire cave passage is connected by giant corridors and over 20 large halls, with the larger halls covering an area of nearly 20,000 square meters. Along the route, there are also multiple collapsed skylights and vertical shafts. When daylight falls vertically from the skylights into the pitch-black cave chambers, it creates a striking light beam view. The cave's sedimentary view excels in both scale and pristine condition: rows of large stalagmites and stalactites, layered flowstone dams and stone fields, cave pearls scattered on the cave floor, and delicate, unique helictites, most of which remain in their unadorned, original state.Fengshan · 24.4 km from downtown

The scenery is beautiful, and the entire tour is by boat. It is suitable for families with elderly people and children. There are many photo spots. The rainy season is not suitable for visiting. The best time to visit is spring and autumn when the water is beautiful and the scenery is captivating, making you want to stay longer!

I came to Hechi for two days and visited three scenic spots, Wanshou Valley, Sanmenhai for one day, and Qibailong for one day. After checking online, it was confirmed that the above attractions are cave drilling, boating, and mountain walking. Wanshou Valley is two caves with a skylight in the middle, and the whole journey is about 1,500 meters. The skylight and the valley bottom are a bit monotonous, and the stalactites in the cave are so many and beautiful! Let you see enough at one time. Personally, I feel that after seeing Wanshou Valley in Hechi, there is basically no need to see other caves again, and the cost performance is super high. The online Qunar e-ticket is cheaper than the on-site ticket. Sanmenhai is about one kilometer away from Wanshou Valley. The ticket was also booked on Qunar, which is also cheaper than the on-site ticket. I got on a small wooden boat with 8 people, and the boatman who rowed the boat was a local villager. The water is very green and slow, and the wind blowing from the water is very cool. It is said that the negative ions are very high. The scenery is still good. I went through three gates, so-called three days and three nights. The whole journey took about half an hour to go in and out. I personally feel that I am still not satisfied, and the cost performance is not high. The day we came was the last day of the March 3rd folk song festival, so it was worthwhile to experience the customs of ethnic minorities. The next day we visited the Qibainong Scenic Area. We booked tickets online, and when we arrived at the gate of the scenic area, we found that the on-site tickets were cheaper, so we refunded the electronic tickets. The reason for the cheap on-site tickets was said to be the March 3rd discount event. After entering the scenic area, there was a zigzag mountain road that went up and down, left and right. There are four classic attractions: Bali Jiuwan, Qianshan Wanlong Scenic Spot, Tianxia Diyi Nong, and Tornado. There are still 9 kilometers from Tianxia Diyi Nong to Tornado, so we gave up and didn't go. There are three intersections to enter the scenic area, namely Dahua, Donglan, and Du'an. I personally think it is best to drive a car to visit, and basically all cars that are not too old can climb up. We took the route from Dahua to Du'an. The downhill road to Du'an is very long! My ears were blocked by the air pressure. Some people posted tips on evading tickets online, and I don't approve of this practice, after all, they have built the road so well (although not all of them). Almost all the mountain people in the scenic area are poor households. A little bit of ticket money can improve their travel conditions, which can be considered a good deed.

The Baimo Cave isn't as exaggerated as the media portrays it. There are indeed quite a few elderly people inside undergoing so-called magnetic therapy. Personally, I think it's damp inside and could easily lead to rheumatoid arthritis.

The Yuanyang Cave Scenic Area is located 3 kilometers east of Fengshan County, Hechi City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with an altitude of more than 700 meters. The stone pillars, stalagmites and stone curtains in the cave are dazzling, with moving shapes and lifelike, including flying dragons, coiling dragons, rushing waterfalls, mandarin ducks playing in the water, silver butterflies flying, and beautiful scenery. There are countless stalagmites in the cave, which gather in many places to form a peculiar cave stone forest landscape. The stalactites in the cave are like floating mountains and leaping waves, continuous and spectacular. According to measurements, the content of negative oxygen ions in the air in the cave is as high as 70,000 per cubic centimeter, which is a natural oxygen bar.

The location is remote; you have to cross several mountains to reach the Crystal Palace. Parking lot number 4 is closest to the entrance. The Crystal Palace is entirely white and very beautiful. It's about a 1.5-kilometer walk and well worth a visit.

Chuanlongyan Cave is located in Fengshan County, Guangxi. It covers an area of 4,200 square meters and is 100 meters high. It can accommodate 20,000 people for activities. The Fengshan World Geopark Museum is built in the cave (currently not open to the public and is under reconstruction). There are roads and rivers passing through it, and there are bridges. Going in, there is the "Chuanlongyan Ancient Carved Stone Road". The stone road winds up along the river bank, and the green mountains are reflected in the water, just like a "paradise". The stone carving corridor on the wall of Chuanlongyan is about 100 meters long and more than 10 meters high. Many ancient and modern literati and poets have left many manuscripts here. The mountains behind are majestic and overlapping, the distant mountains are towering, and the mountains are stacked up.
