Temppeliaukio Church

7.6
4.6/5
439 reviews
Temppeliaukio Church, also known as Temppeliaukio Church, is located in the Temppeliaukio Square in the center of Helsinki. Designed by the architect brothers Suomalainen, it is one of the few churches in the world built into solid rock and a must-see attraction in Helsinki. Historical background Temppeliaukio Church was designed by the Suomalainen brothers and completed in 1969. As early as the 1930s, a church design competition was held here but was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. After the war, the brothers' proposal won the public competition, ultimately turning the blueprint into this rock-embedded building. The beauty of architecture When you stand outside the church, what catches your eye is a massive rock, with no visible spire or bell tower typical of most churches. You might not even notice the church's presence, as only a light blue copper dome over 20 m in diameter is exposed atop the rock. This is because the church was built inside a giant rock—the rock was hollowed out, and a glass ceiling was constructed above to allow natural light, while the church's outer walls are the rock itself. The church entrance is designed as a tunnel, with its inner walls still made of the original rock. The entire church resembles a landed UFO, creating a very peculiar sight. The roof features a dome design supported by a hundred radial beams, with transparent glass inlays that allow natural light to illuminate the space, making it hard to tell you're inside a rock. The church can accommodate hundreds of people. It holds services on Sundays and is also a popular venue for local weddings, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Additionally, thanks to the echo effect of the rock walls, the church boasts excellent acoustics, making it a frequent choice for concerts.Finland · Helsinki

Santa Claus Village

Santa Claus Village is located 8 km north of Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle. Every year, a steady stream of visitors flocks from all over the world to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus. Santa Claus Village is a group of wooden buildings, including a pointed main gate, restaurants, flower gardens, Santa's office, residence, post office, gift shops, and a reindeer park. The tents and antlers used by the Laplanders for their stay are also quite interesting souvenirs. Here you can also get a certificate for crossing the Arctic Circle. The Santa Claus post office offers various fairy-tale stamps, greeting cards and gifts. All letters sent from here will bear a special postmark from the Arctic Santa Claus post office. Here you can also book a letter signed by Santa Claus at the post office, which will be sent to your friends and family during Christmas, bringing them a delightful surprise. By the woods stands a reindeer park enclosed with wooden fences, home to many beautiful reindeer. In summer, they lounge lazily on the grass to rest; come winter, especially during Christmas, they work hard for Santa and travelers, pulling sleighs across the snow at full speed. This lets travelers enjoy the thrill of snowflakes brushing their faces and experience the joy and warmth of Christmas, turning scenes from holiday cards into reality.Finland · Rovaniemi

Suomenlinna, located on the inner side of the Helsinki Bay, was a former military fortress and was included in the World Heritage List by the local authorities UNESCO in 1991. In the early 18th century, Finland was still under the rule of the Swedes. The Swedes decided to build forts on six islands off the coast of Helsinki. Construction of Suomenlinna began in 1748 under the command of Swedish commander Alan Swader, initially named Sveaborg. In 1808, the Russian army surrounded it and took over the island directly. Until 1918, it was renamed Suomenlinna, and until now, it is the place where Finnish troops are stationed.Finland · Helsinki

Oodi Helsinki Central Library

4.8/5
6 reviews
Oodi Helsinki Central Library is located in the heart of Helsinki, on one side of the Civic Square next to the Parliament House, and was designed by the Finnish architecture firm ALA Architects. The name Oodi means ode, and of its three floors, only the top floor is dedicated to books and reading; the entire building is more like an urban living room that incorporates reading, creation, and gathering. Each of the three floors has its own appeal: the ground floor continues the bustle of the square outside and features a cinema, a multi-purpose hall, a restaurant, and quick book lending and return services; the middle floor is a space for hands-on activities and creation, equipped with makerspaces and equipment open to the public; the top floor is an open reading area where a large collection of books is displayed under a wavy ceiling. The children's reading area is also located here, and the Citizens' Balcony on the side offers a view of the city center. The entire building is designed as a "habitable bridge": two massive steel arches span over 100 meters, supporting a wavy wooden shell that creates an open, column-free public space on the ground floor, allowing you to feel the sense of openness as the square extends into the interior upon entering. The double-spiral staircase connecting the floors is also a distinctive architectural element of the library.Finland · Helsinki

Uspenski Cathedral

182 reviews
Uspenski Cathedral is the cathedral of the Finnish Orthodox Church. Perched on a hillside on the Katajanokka peninsula in Helsinki, overlooking the South Harbour, it is one of the largest Orthodox churches in Northern Europe. The church was built in the 1860s and designed by Russian architect Aleksey Gornostayev. It was modeled after a 16th-century church near Moscow, and the hundreds of thousands of red bricks used for the walls were taken from the Bomarsund fortress, which was destroyed during the Crimean War. The deep red brick walls, paired with gold-and-green onion domes, stand out strikingly against the bay. The 13 domes symbolize Jesus and the 12 apostles, and the crosses on the spires all face east. A plaque commemorating Tsar Alexander II is embedded on the back of the church—he was the ruler of Finland when the church was built. The name "Uspenski" is derived from Old Church Slavonic and means "Dormition." Every year in mid-August, a grand festive service is held here for the Feast of the Dormition. Stepping inside, the light is serene. The central dome is supported by four granite pillars, and the dome and vaults are adorned with religious paintings. The golden iconostasis, cascading chandeliers, and numerous ancient icons create a rich Orthodox Byzantine atmosphere. It faces the elegant, whiteHelsinki Cathedralacross the water. The red and white structures form a classic Helsinki cityscape. The church remains a place of worship for local Orthodox believers today.Finland · Helsinki

Helsinki Cathedral

Located in front of Senate Square, Helsinki Cathedral is one of Helsinki's most well-known buildings. Its green dome is very striking, and this magnificent white building with a green roof can be seen from anywhere in the city center, which is why it is also known as the "White Church." Historical background The church was designed by German architect C.L. Engel. It is located more than 80 m above sea level and can be seen at a glance from the sea. The cathedral is a famous building in Helsinki and holds a special place in the hearts of Finns. Therefore, Finnish couples hope to hold their weddings here, and for this, they even need to book a year and a half in advance. Architectural beauty The magnificent building contains many exquisite murals and sculptures. In winter, heavy snow covers the square in front of the church, and warm lights turn on, making the whole church look sacred. Whenever the church bells ring, the entire square falls silent, and many tourists quietly experience this precious moment of inner peace that only religion can bring. Events and celebrations The graduation ceremony of the University of Helsinki, one of the best universities in Northern Europe, is also held here every year. Organ recitals and concerts are held here every Sunday evening.Finland · Helsinki

Rukatunturi

Rukatunturi in Finland is a magical winter destination, located in the Kuusamo region of Finnish Lapland, known for its long ski season and diverse winter activities. The resort features many ski runs suitable for skiers of all levels. From gentle slopes for beginners to FIS-certified tracks for those looking to push their limits, each one is meticulously designed. In addition to skiing, it offers a wealth of snow activities. For visitors seeking thrills, ice karting is also an unmissable activity. The nights here are equally enchanting, especially during the season when the aurora is frequent. Staying in a glass-roofed cabin, you can watch the Northern Lights dancing in the night sky right from your bed.Finland · Kuusamo
Arctic Circle Line

Arctic Circle Line

5.4
4.4/5
98 reviews
Arctic Circle Line is located within Santa Claus Village. It is a striking white line painted on the ground in the center of the village, corresponding to the latitude of approx. 66°33' N, and serves as the natural boundary between the North Temperate Zone and the North Frigid Zone. A classic activity for visitors here is to take a photo with one foot on each side of the white line, capturing a souvenir shot with one foot inside the Arctic Circle and the other outside. Visitors can also receive a personalized certificate of crossing the Arctic Circle as a keepsake. This line of latitude also marks the divide between the midnight sun and polar night: around the summer solstice, the sun does not set north of the line, while around the winter solstice, the region enters the long polar night. An interesting detail is that due to the slight wobble of the Earth's axis, the actual position of the Arctic Circle moves slowly northward every year. The fixed white line in the village now deviates slightly from the theoretical position, which has become a piece of trivia shared among visitors. The city of Rovaniemi, south of the line, was replanned after World War II by architect Alvar Aalto. Its overall layout resembles a reindeer, with extending roads like antlers, earning this city right next to the Arctic Circle the nickname "Reindeer City."Finland · Rovaniemi

İşte Reels’e uygun, biraz daha uzun ve akıcı bir İngilizce açıklama:⛪ Rock Church (Temppeliaukio Church)One of Helsinki’s most remarkable landmarks, the Rock Church is carved directly into solid granite, blending nature and modern architecture in a truly unique way. The copper dome fills the interior with beautiful natural light, while the exceptional acoustics make it a popular venue for concerts. Peaceful, timeless, and unlike any other church, it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression on every visitor. 🇫🇮✨

The tree in the center of the square gets its decorations changed every year, and the lighting is quite cozy. There's a Santa Claus office in the village where you can take photos, and a post office where you can send postcards with an Arctic Circle postmark. The tree itself isn't particularly special, but the surrounding wooden houses and reindeer sleighs, combined with the lights in the snow, create a nice atmosphere. It's a good place to bring children to experience Christmas culture.

View: Helsinki Cathedral is famous for its white granite exterior and light green dome. Its golden spire and pure white walls can be seen from a distance from the sea. It is an outstanding example of neoclassical style architecture. The church's majestic spire is 62 meters high and is a prominent feature in the city's skyline, providing a different and beautiful view both during the day and at night. Value for money: Helsinki Cathedral is free to the public, making it a very cost-effective tourist attraction. Visitors can enter freely and admire its exquisite murals, sculptures and huge golden pipe organ without paying any fees. Richness of scenery: The interior of the church is spacious and bright, and natural light shines into the interior of the church through the huge windows, creating a solemn and sacred atmosphere. In addition, Senate Square in front of the church is also the best place to appreciate neoclassical architecture and Finnish cultural activities. Education level: Helsinki Cathedral is not only a religious place, but also an important cultural heritage in Finland. It was built in the early 19th century to demonstrate Finland's cultural and religious independence to the Russian rulers of the time. The church is therefore not only a place of religious ceremony but also a symbol of Finnish national pride. Interesting: Because of its unique architectural style and rich cultural background, Helsinki Cathedral has become an important place for tourists to explore the history and culture of Helsinki. The artistic works and regular concerts and cultural activities held in the church provide visitors with a rich cultural experience and interest. In general, Helsinki Cathedral is a beautiful, culturally rich and interesting tourist destination, and it is free and open to the public and has a high cost performance.

The Arctic Circle is marked at 66 degrees 33 minutes north latitude. The 66°33' North Pole line connecting Santa Claus' office and Santa Claus Village Post Office is covered by snow. But don't be disappointed, there is also a 66°33' 07" white North Pole line indoors, where you can take photos in winter.
