Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva is located on the border between Switzerland and France, nestled between the Alps in a crescent shape, with approx. 60% of its waters within Switzerland. The lake water is clear and blue, with distant snow-capped mountains reflected in it, forming a typical view of theAlpine region. Numerous views and landmarks are distributed along the lakeshore. Chillon Castle, built on a rock in the lake, has stood for nearly a thousand years and is one of Switzerland's famous medieval buildings, and Byron once wrote a famous long poem about it. The towns along the shore each have their own charm. Geneva blends modern urban vibes with historical heritage, and Montreux is known for its pleasant lakeside climate. Taking a boat cruise on the lake is a classic way to enjoy the panoramic view of Lake Geneva and the scenery on both shores. In summer, you can enjoy water activities such as sailing and kayaking on the lake, while in winter, you can head to the nearbyAlpine regionto ski.Saint-Prex · 40.2 km from Geneva

Palais des Nations is located within Ariana Park on the shores of Lake Geneva and serves as the home of the United Nations Office at Geneva. This magnificent complex, composed of several interconnected buildings, faces the lake, and on clear days, it offers views of the French Alps across the water. The Council Chamber was donated by Spain and features massive murals by painter José María Sert. The Conference on Disarmament is still held there. The Assembly Hall has nearly 2,000 seats and hosts important meetings such as the World Health Assembly. The dome of the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room was painted by Spanish artist Miquel Barceló, with layers of color resembling a three-dimensional cave. Stepping out of the halls, Ariana Park is open to the public, where peacocks stroll leisurely across the lawns and you can find the bronze Celestial Sphere sculpture donated by the Wilson Foundation.Geneva · 3.1 km from downtown

Ariana Park is a large, open green space on the right bank of Lake Geneva, where the Palais des Nations, home to the United Nations Office at Geneva, is located. The park is shaded by ancient trees, and the slopes facing the lake offer expansive views, allowing you to see Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc in the Alps in the distance. Peacocks strolling freely through the park are a highly recognizable feature here. This tradition has continued since the park's founding; the blue peacocks are not afraid of visitors and often fan their tails in the courtyards and on the lawns. Sculptures donated by various countries are also scattered throughout, such as the titanium Space Conquest monument, the bronze Great Centaur sculpture, and a painted wooden house relocated in its entirety from the mountains. On clear days, it is a great place for walking and picnicking. Large lawns are often left to a flock of sheep to mow, which, along with the peacocks, ancient trees, and international sculptures, creates a delightful scene. It is a wonderful place to experience the blend of Geneva's natural beauty and international atmosphere.Geneva · 3 km from downtown

Patek Philippe Museum

For those with even a passing interest in timepieces, a visit to thePatek Philippe Museumis usually on the itinerary. In 2001, Philippe Stern, then president of Patek Philippe, opened his personal collection of timepieces to the public, establishing this museum. The building was converted from a factory dating back to the early 1920s. It once served as a workshop for gem cutters and jewelers, and later as a workshop for Patek Philippe's watch cases and bracelets, still retaining traces of its industrial past. The collection focuses on timepieces, featuring over 2,000 items including automata and miniature enamel paintings, which trace about 500 years of watchmaking history in Geneva and Europe. The second floor is dedicated to European antique timepieces from the 16th to the 19th centuries, where you can see early 16th-century portable timepieces, fully enameled pocket watches, and musical automata. The first floor brings together the brand's masterpieces since 1839, from early wristwatches dating back to 1868 and the pocket watch presented to Queen Victoria at the 1851 London World's Fair, to the Caliber 89 pocket watch—created in 1989 to commemorate the brand's 150th anniversary and featuring over 30 complications—each piece has a story. The ground floor recreates 19th-century watchmaking workbenches and old tools, with the restoration workshop nearby still maintaining the museum's antique timepieces today. The third floor houses a library with over 8,000 books on horology, and also displays miniature enamel portraits and snuffboxes.Geneva · 313m from downtown

Geneva Jet d'eau

The Geneva Jet d'eau stands on Lake Geneva, right next to the Jardin Anglais, and is one of Geneva's iconic landmarks. In the 1880s, Geneva's workshops relied on hydraulic power to drive their machinery. When they stopped working at night, the pressure in the pipe network needed to be released, and this water jet was originally designed as a pressure relief valve for this purpose. Because it was so popular with passersby, it was later moved to its current lakeside location and became a formal landmark. Its water jet can reach over 100m, resembling the spout of a giant whale. Hundreds of liters of lake water are propelled into the air at high speed, scattering into a sky full of white mist. Walking along the lakeside promenade, you can feel the cool mist on your face as it drifts with the wind. At night, if you catch it when it is illuminated, it is even more impressive.Geneva · 1.4 km from downtown

Old Town of Geneva is nestled on the hillside on the south bank of the Rhône River. Its cobblestone streets form the framework, with churches, historic houses, and ancient fountains scattered throughout. The pace is much slower than elsewhere in the city, making it a perfect spot for a stroll to soak in the old-world atmosphere of Geneva. At its highest point stands the Cathedrale Saint-Pierre Geneve, founded in the 12th century and an important witness to the Reformation in Geneva. Climb the narrow stairs inside the tower to the belfry for panoramic views of the layered rooftops and the distant lake and mountains. The former residence and place of birth of the philosopher Rousseau is located along the main thoroughfare. Place du Bourg-de-Four, once a medieval market, is now surrounded by open-air cafes and small restaurants; it is a delightful spot to enjoy a coffee or sample local flavors after a walk. The winding alleys are home to galleries, antique shops, and bistros, where you might discover anything from old European paintings to vintage items from around the world—browsing for souvenirs while exploring is a delight. For history enthusiasts, the Maison Tavel is a must-visit; this ancient residence documents centuries of local life. Secret medieval passages still remain underground, adding a touch of intrigue to your stroll.Geneva · 536m from downtown

L'Horloge Fleurie stands on the promenade along Lake Geneva, located on the west side of the English Garden, combining Geneva's two specialties—watchmaking and horticulture—into a single flowerbed. It was built in 1955 to pay tribute to the local watchmaking tradition: the movement is hidden beneath the flowerbed, and the clock face, which is about 5 meters in diameter, along with the 12 Arabic numerals, are all "planted" with flowers and greenery. A second hand over 2 meters long sweeps slowly over the flowers. The time is calibrated by satellite. It is not just a decorative display, but a fully functional clock. The flowers on the clock face are changed four times a year according to the season: in summer, they are replaced with begonias or succulents; in autumn and winter, pansies are planted; and around March, it's the primroses' turn to take the stage. Therefore, the patterns and color schemes you see will be different depending on when you visit.Geneva · 929m from downtown

Jardin Anglais is located on the left bank of Lake Geneva. Established in 1854, it is a lakeside park designed in the English landscape garden style, where lawns, large trees, and winding paths replace regular, symmetrical layouts. It can be accessed by walking along the lake after crossing the Mont Blanc Bridge. The park is lush and shaded, with expansive views of the lake. Standing by the shore, you can see the water jet of the Geneva Jet d'eau, making it a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the view while walking around the lake. The park's signature view is L'Horloge Fleurie, built in 1955. The clock face is composed of thousands of seasonal flowers, and the patterns change with the seasons, so the color combinations you see will differ depending on when you visit. In addition to L'Horloge Fleurie, the park also features the bronze Four Seasons Fountain, the National Monument commemorating Geneva's accession to the Swiss Confederation, and memorial busts of painters and sculptors. The statues and tree shadows are interspersed throughout, making it perfect for a slow, leisurely stroll.Geneva · 973m from downtown

Broken Chair stands in the Place des Nations in Geneva, directly facing the main entrance of the United Nations Office at Geneva. It is a giant wooden sculpture designed by Swiss artist Daniel Berset. The entire chair is made of over 5 tons of fir wood and stands approx. 12 m tall, with one of its legs broken, while the other three legs firmly support the tall backrest. In 1997, Handicap International erected it here to promote the signing of the Mine Ban Treaty by various countries and to call for attention to the harm caused to civilians by landmines. It was originally planned to be displayed for only three months, but it was permanently retained due to strong public support, and it is now a highly recognizable landmark in the international district of Geneva.Geneva · 2.7 km from downtown

Located in the old town of Geneva, St. Peter's Basilica is majestic and conspicuous. Built between 1160 and 1232, it was the pillar of faith for the citizens of Geneva. Unique mix-and-match style The cathedral has been rebuilt several times and incorporates a variety of architectural styles: the spectacular façade is built with white columns in the Greek Koslin style, rather like a Greek temple, and the main building of the church is Romanesque. With gothic spires and arches, it is very unique. Visit the interior of the church. The decoration of the interior of the church was extensively destroyed during the Protestant Reformation. Most of the paintings and sculptures were not spared, but the frescoes on the pulpit, the top of the pillars and the dome were still preserved. There is a large pipe organ above the entrance to the church, which now has additional speakers for better acoustics. There are benches and pulpit in the church hall, exquisite statues of saints and angels are carved above the vaulted colonnade, and the candles on the chandeliers emit warm yellow light, adding a hazy sense of holiness. John Calvin has presided over the promotion of the European Reformation Movement in St. Peter's Basilica since 1536. For 30 years, next to the pulpit on the left side of the church, you can see the wooden chair that Calvin used to sit on. The words "Le Siege de Calvin" (Calvin's headquarters) were engraved on it. In the southwest corner of St. Peter's Basilica is the Maccabee Chapel, a Gothic hall built in the 14th century as a warehouse and later as a lecture hall for propaganda of the Reformation. There are two towers overlooking St. Peter's Basilica in Geneva. You can enjoy a 360° view of Geneva by climbing the spiral staircase to the top of the tower. You can have a panoramic view of the old city of Geneva and Lake Geneva. The two towers communicate with each other and are connected by corridors.Geneva · 567m from downtown

Lake Geneva, which shares the same name as the city, is very vast, with a sapphire-like color and sparkling in the sun. From Geneva Airport, you can take a train to Nyon, a small town on the shore of Lake Geneva. The hotel rooms there are large, and the lake view rooms also have terraces to enjoy the lake view. The breakfast is very rich and cost-effective. From the dock in Nyon, you can take a boat to the French flower town opposite and experience the fun of crossing two countries in half an hour. The price of the flower town is lower than that of Switzerland, and it is very pleasant to enjoy authentic French food there.

The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) is located in the historic Palais des Nations, the second largest UN centre after the UN Headquarters in New York. The facility is an outstanding testimony to twentieth-century architecture and is situated in the beautiful Parc Ariane in Geneva, Switzerland. The Palais des Nations is one of the largest diplomatic conference centres in the world. Around 8,000 meetings are organised every year. Most of the meeting rooms date back to the original building of the Palais des Nations in the 1930s.

When you come to Geneva, Switzerland, everyone knows about the famous flower clock; but few people know about the English Garden where the flower clock is located. The English Garden, covering an area of 25,000 square meters, is the largest of the series of urban parks on the shores of Lake Geneva in downtown Geneva. In 1854, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Geneva's joining the Swiss Confederation, the English Garden was built on the shores of Lake Geneva on the north side of the old city. Another hundred years later - in 1955, the world's first flower clock was built on the southwest edge of the garden. The flower clock, with a dial diameter of 5 meters and composed of more than 6,500 bright flowers, has been ranked first in the world for decades and is deeply loved by citizens and tourists. Gradually, the flower clock has become a landmark of Geneva, while the name of the English Garden has been quietly forgotten. After getting up close with the big flower clock, we walked into the English Garden, where lush and towering ancient trees, spacious and lush green lawns, fountains with overflowing water, and quaint and elegant pavilions complement each other with the clear blue lake and couples walking hand in hand... It feels romantic and fresh, it's really great.

Broken But Not BrokenIn a city where the skies are fair,Stands a symbol, a broken chair,Not of weakness, but a tale of might,A beacon for those in the fight.Across the lands, we venture far,Guided by this guiding star,Traveling roads both rough and fair,Finding strength in what's laid bare.Though the leg is shattered, split,It carries tales where warriors sit,Of journeys marked by hope and grace,Resilience found in every place.Exploring realms, both old and new,With hearts so strong, and spirits true,We face the storms, the winds, the air,With courage like that broken chair. For in our quests, we often find,The broken pieces heal the mind,And through the trials, we declare,We're broken, but we're not despaired. So let us travel, near and far,Underneath the same bright star,With stories woven, in the air,Of journeys bold, like that chair. And though we stumble, though we break,It's in the mending, paths we make,Through lands of peace, and ones in care,We rise anew, from the broken chair.
