National Museum of Ghana

4.8/5
9 reviews
National Museum of Ghana is an ideal place to explore Ghana's rich culture and history. Established in 1957, it is one of the older museums in Ghana, housing over 10,000 artifacts that cover three major categories: archaeology, ethnography, and fine arts, with a significant portion of the collection originating from the Akan region. The permanent exhibition in the ethnography gallery is quite impressive: chiefs' ceremonial regalia, traditional musical instruments, brass weights used for weighing gold, beads, traditional textiles, carved wooden stools, and pottery are laid out in sequence, vividly presenting the daily life and handicraft traditions of West Africa. The building itself is also worth a close look. The windows on the museum's concrete facade are arranged in a zigzag pattern, and passing through the entrance porch, one can see a low, shallow, saucer-shaped aluminum dome. It is one of the representative examples of modernist architecture from Ghana's independence era, creating a unique atmosphere for viewing the exhibits. This place is not only a must-visit for history enthusiasts but also a window into understanding Ghanaian culture.Ghana · Accra

There are plenty of restaurants and bars to relax at here. However, the beach had a lot of trash in the sand. I expected nicer beaches in Accra. If you want a nice beach, you need to travel to the north western part of Ghana.
