Rock of Gibraltar

Rock of Gibraltaris a massive limestone monolith, over 400m high, towering beside the Strait of Gibraltar and guarding the western entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. The northern end of the rock is near the border between Gibraltar and Spain. Most of the summit area is designated as a nature reserve, and the mountain contains a labyrinth of man-made tunnels. The entire mountain is a fortress relic in itself and an iconic landmark of Gibraltar. You can reach the summit by road or trail, or by taking the cable car. On clear days, you can see the Mediterranean Sea, the coast of Spain, and the mountains of Morocco from the top. There are many attractions on the mountain: St. Michael's Cave is filled with stalactites and stalagmites, and the grand Cathedral Cave has been turned into a natural concert hall; the Great Siege Tunnels, carved in the 18th century, and the later WWII tunnels record the military history of this fortress; the Skywalk, suspended on the edge of the cliff, is an exciting viewing platform overlooking the strait.Gibraltar · Gibraltar

Saint Michael's Cave

Saint Michael's Cave is a network of limestone caves within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve in Gibraltar, with its entrance located on the mountainside hundreds of meters above sea level, attracting tourists all year round. The cave extends about 60m deep. In the main hall, "Cathedral Cave," stalactites hang from the dome and stalagmites rise from the ground. Colorful lights shift and shimmer across the rock walls, and the interwoven blue and green light and shadow make the hall look like an ever-changing underground palace. Thanks to the excellent acoustic conditions provided by the natural dome, Cathedral Cave has been converted into an underground theater, equipped with a stage and rows of seats. Various performances and sound and light shows, ranging from opera and orchestral music to pop and rock, are staged here all year round. Hidden deeper is the lower cave system, which was accidentally discovered in 1942 during the excavation of a ventilation shaft. It is filled with a dazzling array of karst formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and stone columns, with a clear underground lake at the end.Gibraltar · Gibraltar

This attraction is one of the iconic landmarks of the ancient Mediterranean world. According to ancient Greek mythology, Heracles was one of the heroes of ancient Greek mythology who was ordered to carve a passage between two mountain peaks so that the sea could flow freely. Moorish Castle is located on the northern slope of the Rock of Gibraltar and is one of the oldest surviving Islamic military fortresses in Europe. It was originally built in the 8th century during the period when North African Moors ruled the Iberian Peninsula. This castle is one of the relics from the period of Moorish rule on the Iberian Peninsula, showcasing the architectural style and fortifications of that time. The castle was commissioned by the Moorish commander Tariq ibn Ziyad, and its core structures include the Tower of Homage, which was rebuilt in the 14th century, and the gatehouse. The Tower of Homage is about 30m high and built of limestone. The tower retains traces of lookout windows and fortifications, making it one of the tallest military towers from the Islamic era on the Iberian Peninsula. The castle walls extend along the ridge, and in some areas, Moorish-style arches and carvings are still visible. Despite having undergone many wars and renovations, it still showcases the fusion of North African Islamic architecture and European military fortresses.Gibraltar · Gibraltar

Geographically, Gibraltar is an interesting place. Although it is in the south of the European continent, it is a British territory and uses the British pound/Gibraltar pound instead of the euro. The lighthouse is at the southernmost part of Gibraltar and you can take bus No. 2 to the terminal. The sea here is the Strait of Gibraltar, and you can see the African continent from afar, which is a very meaningful place.

Lovely place but please be careful with the monkeys, don’t give food to them and also do not pretend you have in you bag because automatically they will jump and steal your backpack. Don’t make any eye contact with them, sometimes they are a bit tired of people and they could attract you. BEST PRACTICE Go there and think that you are in their home, so please be respectful and don’t touch them, if you go in that way it will be a really nice experience.
