The exterior is nice and moving. It makes a nice memorial to the soldiers and sailors of the United States during World War I. The plaza and ironwork surrounding this building is spectacular. It's a shame that America doesn't create architectural beauty like this anymore. You can take the stairs to the top observation deck of the monument, about 330 narrow, steep steps. I wouldn't recommend it, especially on a hot summer day. Pay $3 to take the elevator, but be forewarned, the elevator is fairly small. If you are claustrophobic, stay outside and just admire the exterior. The monument area is within walking distance of other attractions and restaurants and shopping. If possible, go on a Sunday when parking is free.
