Inuyama Castle

4.8/5
103 reviews
Inuyama Castle was built during the Muromachi Shogunate period. It is located on a small hill next to the Kiso River and is also known as Baidi Castle. This name is not unfamiliar to Chinese travelers, and the namer is indeed reminiscent of the poem "Early Departure from Baidi Castle" written by Li Bai. The Inuyama Castle Tower is one of the twelve existing ancient castle towers in Japan, and its style is relatively old. It is known as the "Four National Treasure Castles of Japan" together with Himeji Castle, Matsumoto Castle, and Hikone Castle. It has 3 floors on the outside, 4 floors inside, and 2 floors underground, which is rare among the castle towers in Japan. Of course, these floors are open to visitors, and travelers can view various architectural structures of the city underground. On the top floor, the 4th floor, you can also walk to the outdoor corridor to enjoy the scenery. Every Thursday, you can also watch the tour of the Aichi Prefecture's Warring States Princess Team for free, which is somewhat similar to the Nagoya Castle's general team and is still worth seeing. Inuyama Castle was built in 1537 by Oda Nobuyasu, the uncle of Oda Nobunaga. It is located on the border of Owari (Aichi Prefecture) and Mino (Gifu Prefecture). It has been a key point for conquering the world since the Warring States Period, and the lord of the castle has changed frequently. During the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute (1584), Toyotomi Hideyoshi led an army of 120,000 into the castle and had a showdown with Tokugawa Ieyasu who used Komakiyama Castle as his base. In the Edo Period (1603-1868), Naruse Masashige, the head of the Owari domain's retainers, became the lord of the castle until the end of the shogunate. However, due to the abolition of domains and establishment of prefectures during the Meiji Restoration (1868), the castle became the property of Aichi Prefecture. However, due to the Nobi earthquake in 1891, half of the castle was damaged, and the castle became the property of the Naruse family again on the condition of restoration. It was a privately owned castle until 2004, when it was taken over by a foundation.Inuyama · 1.2 km from downtown

Nagoya Castle

3.6k reviews
Nagoya Castlewas built by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu and was once the residence of the Owari Tokugawa clan. It is often cited alongside Osaka Castle and Kumamoto Castle as one of Japan's three most famous castles. At both ends of the main keep's roof ridge sit a pair of male and female golden shachihoko (mythical tiger-headed carp); these golden ornaments shine brilliantly in the sunlight, and their majestic appearance remains a highly recognizable symbol of the city. The core attraction within the castle is the restored Honmaru Palace. This complex, which once served as the residence and administrative office for the feudal lord, was rebuilt based on primary historical sources, with halls such as the Omote Shoin and Jorakuden laid out in sequence, and exquisite wall paintings and gold-leaf decorations recreating the grandeur of the samurai shoin-zukuri style. Outside the palace, the three corner turrets—southwest, southeast, and northwest—are historical structures that have survived to this day, and you can still identify the markings of various feudal lords on the massive stones of the stone walls, while Ni-no-maru Garden is known for its waterfall rock arrangements and stone bridges. In terms of the experience, the park is planted with nearly 1,000 cherry trees, and when they bloom in spring, the main keep and the cherry blossoms can be captured in the same frame. The plaza often hosts live performances and interactive experiences by Sengoku warrior groups and ninja squads, providing visitors with a rich array of historical architecture viewing and cultural activities.Nagoya · 21.9 km from Inuyama

North hall: A 3.5-billion-year journey Animals return to the ocean Approximately 3.5 billion years ago, single-celled organisms emerged in the oceans, becoming the earliest life forms on Earth. Countless species evolved along their own paths, with some migrating to land and evolving into giant dinosaurs that once dominated the terrestrial realm. However, they eventually became extinct. Later, mammals dominated the land. Around 50 million years ago, some mammals returned to the ocean, their natural habitat. These animals evolved into modern whales. To adapt to underwater life, they developed streamlined bodies, forming the graceful shapes we see today. This exhibition will chronologically guide visitors into the world of cetaceans. These marine creatures have adapted to underwater life, developing remarkable intelligence, and are said to hold a terrestrial status comparable to humans. South hall: Journey to Antarctica Global journey, encountering diverse life across the five oceans The vast ocean covers approx. 70% of the earth's surface, featuring diverse temperatures and climates that enable organisms to adapt to various environments and continuously evolve. In the south pavilion, you can retrace the route of the Antarctic research vessel "Fuji" docked at Nagoya port garden pier, and observe creatures living in different water zones including the "Sea of Japan", "Deep sea exhibition hall", "Equatorial waters", "Australian waters", and "Antarctic waters". Let's embark on an Antarctic journey and observe the ecosystems of creatures living in different waters up close.Nagoya · 32.6 km from Inuyama

This is a very cost-effective attraction, suitable for a day trip or staying overnight nearby. It's about a 15-minute walk from Inuyama Yuen Station. You can climb the castle tower and overlook the beautiful scenery of Inuyama City. It's quite pleasant. You can find food in the Inuyama Castle Town next to it.

The day in Meiji Village was very fulfilling. All the buildings were moved from parts of real historical buildings. The first elementary school and university in modern Japan, as well as banks, prisons, churches, hospitals, police stations, photo studios, theaters, etc., all of these prototypes of Japan's modernization were formed during this period of opening up the country and civilization. We also learned about the immigration history of Brazil and Hawaii, saw Natsume Soseki's study, and learned about the etymology of the handle rings in the tram. It is very interesting to read Japanese culture in detail [smile]

Despite being so close, I finally had the chance to visit. It's a place that will appeal to those who love world expos, international cuisine, and different cultures. The grounds are vast; even a quick walk takes 3-4 hours, but if you eat and eat, 5-6 hours will fly by. Strollers are no problem. There are some areas inside the buildings where a baby carrier is recommended. There are diaper changing stations and nursing rooms, and on typical weekends, the restaurants aren't too crowded, making it easy to feed babies solid foods. The parking lot is large, so you don't need to arrive early. It's a paid parking lot. You can buy tickets at the entrance without queuing, even without purchasing them in advance. Costumes are also inexpensive at 500 yen, so it's fun to dress your child in several outfits and take pictures. There are restaurants in each area, including some with hearty meals, so taking breaks while exploring will make it even more enjoyable. Thank you.

The Japan Monkey Center is a breeding base for ring-tailed lemurs. Ring-tailed lemurs have long tails covered with ring-shaped patterns, which makes them look very cute. At the Japan Monkey Center in Inuyama City, there is a very popular "Wao Land" where you can observe monkeys up close in the same space. There are many lemurs in it, and they all look similar, but the breeders can call out the names of all the monkeys!
