Ishigaki Island is about 420 kilometers southwest of Naha, the main island of Okinawa, and is the main island of the Yaeyama Islands. It is said that in order to avoid typhoons, the houses on the island are surrounded by stone walls, hence the name "Ishigaki". Ishigaki Island has a circumference of about 90 kilometers and is characterized by many mountains. Ishigaki Island has many marine attractions. The seabed of Baibao is clear and transparent, covered with colorful corals, attracting the attention of the whole world. In this lush virgin jungle with tropical plants such as mangroves, there is the island's precious ecosystem. Ishigaki Island is vast and sparsely populated, and public transportation after leaving the urban area is relatively inconvenient. If you want to travel around the headland spots on Ishigaki Island, it is recommended to rent a car or sign up for a local tour group.Ishigaki · 7.6 km from downtown

Ishigaki Yaima Village, located on Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture, is Japan's southernmost and westernmost theme park, offering a fascinating opportunity to experience the traditional culture and nature of the Yaeyama region. Within the park, traditional houses with red tile roofs, designated as registered tangible cultural properties of Japan, have been relocated and preserved, allowing visitors to experience the traditional Yaeyama lifestyle and scenery. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can immerse yourself in the simple and warm culture unique to Okinawa. In the park, where the sound of the sanshin (Okinawan stringed instrument) resonates, live performances of traditional arts and hands-on events are held, allowing visitors to experience Yaeyama culture more closely through music and dance. In addition, there are plenty of participatory programs, such as painting shisa (Okinawan guardian lion statues) and making folk crafts, which are attractive as they allow visitors to create lasting memories of their trip. Furthermore, one of the most distinctive features of Ishigaki Yaima Village is its rich natural environment. Subtropical plants spread throughout the park, and in the forest where you can interact with squirrel monkeys, you can enjoy watching the adorable monkeys roam freely up close. This space, where nature, animals, and culture come together, is popular with a wide range of generations, from young children to adults. At the park's restaurants, you can enjoy Yaeyama soba noodles and local cuisine made with local ingredients, allowing you to fully experience Okinawa's food culture along with sightseeing. The souvenir shop also offers a wide variety of traditional crafts and unique local products, making it perfect for finding souvenirs or gifts. Ishigaki Yaeyama Village is a special place where you can experience the culture and nature of Okinawa and the Yaeyama Islands with all your senses, not just as a tourist attraction. Maybe Ishigaki is the beautiful scenery on the island. The beach is white and delicate, and the sea water is dreamy, just like the Maldives. There are hundreds of species of coral under the sea. Around the coral, there are large and small tropical fish of all kinds, and you can go out to sea in a glass boat to see the coral and fish. The bottom of the glass boat is a whole piece of transparent glass, which is a small boat that takes tourists to watch underwater corals and tropical fish. It takes about 30 minutes to go to sea at a time, and each person is 1030 yen, or more than 60 yuan.Ishigaki · 12.3 km from downtown

About 40 minutes drive from the city. The red tile roof on the high platform is the observation platform. You can see the Hirakubo Peninsula in the distance. The bright red hibiscus flowers, the coral reef sea, and the wind coming out of the face, here concentrate the ultimate beauty of Ishigaki Island. What you can see when you look down is Hunakuya-(Funakuya), which refers to the scene when fishermen crossed the river once. In addition, the starry sky is also highly recommended.Ishigaki · 20.8 km from downtown

is a great beach on Taketomi Island with very clear water and exceptionally soft, fine sand. As far as the eye can see, the blue of the sea extends to the horizon. At low tide, you can wade out to the sandbar, which is a unique experience. The beach features restrooms, changing rooms, other rental facilities, and a picnic area. The calm waves make it ideal for swimming and snorkeling.Taketomi Town · 8.1 km from Ishigaki

Hirakubozaki is located at the northern end of Ishigaki Island. Follow the path to the highland of the headland, and you can overlook the sea with a nearly 360-degree view. This is one of the representative scenic spots of Ishigaki Island, and it is also a good shooting location around the Hirakubozaki Lighthouse. I visited Ishigaki island in May 2024. It was rain all day but got sunny after all next day. It is beautiful island, just super humid and strong sunshine but if you like that kind of weather, it is perfect place to be.

The park isn't large, but it recreates traditional traditional houses. Ishigaki gets its name from the stone walls surrounding the old buildings. The most interesting part is seeing the squirrel monkeys; I highly recommend it. If you're taking the bus back to the city from Kabira Bay, you'll pass the bus stop at the park entrance. A taxi from Ishigaki Port costs about 2000 yen.

📍Kabira Bay, Ishigaki Island I was able to go on a beautiful day, and I was amazed to see the scenery I always see in brochures unfolding before my eyes. It was so beautiful that I felt like I was looking at a painting 💙 It was very relaxing and I definitely want to go back.

From the observation deck, the emerald green sea and white sandy beach stretched out before us, and the panoramic view of the ocean on both sides was breathtaking! The breeze was pleasant, and there was a roof so we could enjoy the scenery at our leisure, avoiding direct sunlight. The walking paths were well-maintained and easily accessible, making it safe even for families with children. Furthermore, there were telescopes available for use for just 100 yen, allowing us to clearly see distant reefs and ships, which was another fun feature.

The island is large enough that you can easily get around on foot. Time flows slowly in the traditional Ryukyu scenery, making it the perfect place to soothe your tired body and mind.

Kaiji Beach is famous for its star sand. It's much harder to find star sand than it was 20 years ago, but it's a lovely beach where you can relax. There were lots of hermit crabs (lol).

It takes nearly an hour to drive here, but it is definitely worth it. This is the northernmost tip of Ishigaki Island. The scenery is different from Mikanzaki and Tamatorizaki. The bay next to it feels like a blue cave.
