Nairobi National Park is located approx. 7 km south of downtown Nairobi, west of the A104 highway. This 120-square-km tropical savanna and woodland was designated as a national park as early as 1946, 17 years before Kenya's independence in 1963, making it Africa's first wildlife park - Nairobi National Park. Nairobi National Park is also a true wildlife park located within a national capital.Kenya · Nairobi

Amboseli National Park

71 reviews
Amboseli National Park is located on the border of Kenya, covering an area of approx. 392 km². Due to its proximity to the cloud-capped summit of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, it attracts batches of travelers for sightseeing. Entering Amboseli National Park, the first thing you see is the usually dry Amboseli Lake (only occasionally holding water during the rainy season), from which the park derives its name. This area is famous for the spectacular mirages that often appear here. "Amboseli" means "dry lake." Elephants: Amboseli is a paradise for elephants, home to large herds due to the sparse tree coverage here. African elephants are highly sensitive in smell and hearing, with their diet mainly consisting of grass, roots, tree buds, shrubs, bark, fruits, and vegetables. They drink 30-50 gallons of water daily, and the average lifespan of an African elephant is around 70 years.Kenya · Amboseli
Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is located at the bottom of the East African Rift Valley, south of Nakuru city. It is a wetland-type national park centered around an alkaline shallow lake, covering an area of nearly 200 km² and renowned as a "birdwatcher's paradise." Hundreds of bird species have been recorded in the lake area and surrounding woodlands. The shallow lake's abundant algae often attract flocks of lesser and greater flamingos to feed, creating the iconic view of pink birds covering the lake surface. Waterbirds such as pelicans, cormorants, and African fish eagles are also commonly seen year-round. It should be noted that the quantity of flamingos fluctuates significantly with lake water levels and food availability. In recent years, the lake water has been continuously rising, causing the flocks to gather and disperse intermittently. Whether you can encounter the spectacular sight of the entire lake turning pink involves some luck, so it's advisable to adjust expectations before your trip. Relatively stable attractions are the terrestrial wildlife: this is an important rhino conservation area in Kenya, where the eastern black rhino and southern white rhino frequently appear in open grasslands. Additionally, endangered Rothschild's giraffes have been relocated here for protection since the late 1970s. Common animals such as buffalo, zebras, waterbucks, impalas, and warthogs roam the area, while spotting lions, leopards, and hyenas requires more luck. The park does not have elephants, so travelers hoping to see the "Big Five" in one go should be aware of this. In the dense forest areas, you might occasionally encounter pythons coiled on trees or crossing the road. Don't miss the baboon cliff for scenic views. From the cliff top, you can take in the panoramic sight of bird flocks on the lake and the picturesque landscape, making it a classic photo spot in the park. The lakeside alternates between alkaline flats, marshes, sparse woods, and cliffs. A half-day to full-day safari can cover the main highlights, which is very friendly for travelers with a tight itinerary.Kenya · Nakuru

Maasai Mara National Reserve

146 reviews
Maasai Mara National Reserve features diverse landscapes such as open grasslands, acacia woodlands, and riverine forests. It is home to approx. 95 species of mammals and 450 species of birds, and is the shared habitat of Africa's Big Five—lions, leopards, African elephants, African buffaloes, and black rhinos. Animal distribution varies across different areas of the reserve: herds of zebras, giraffes, and antelopes forage on the grasslands; various birds and monkey troops inhabit the acacia woodlands; and the banks of the Mara River are the territory of hippos and crocodiles—hippos often float half-submerged in the shallows, while crocodiles lurk in the murky water, waiting for an opportunity. During game drives, different areas offer distinct viewing experiences. From July to September each year, millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles migrate north from the Serengeti in Tanzania into the reserve in search of fresh pastures. When the herds cross the Mara River, they face the threat of turbulent currents and crocodiles; this is known as the Crossing of Heaven and is an iconic scene of the Great Migration. Around October, the herds gradually return south, and the grasslands return to peace.Kenya · Masai Mara

14 reviews
Hells Gate National Park is located in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, south of Lake Naivasha, approx. two hours' drive from Nairobi, and was established in 1984. Its name comes from European explorers who arrived in 1883: facing the narrow and deep gorge passage between cliffs, they felt it was like a gate to hell. The creative team of the animated film "The Lion King" made a special trip here for inspiration, and the iconic rocky grassland landscape in the film was modeled after this place; "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life" was also filmed on location here. The park was officially established in 1984, covering an area of 68.25 km. Stepping into the park, ochre-red sandstone canyons stand toweringFischer's TowerThe volcanic plug and central tower basalt columns cast geometric shadows in the morning light. The Ol Njorowa gorge trail winds through geothermal steam vents, where sulfur springs share warm streams with African buffalo, and a 5 km-long rift fault zone exposes volcanic rock layers. The gas pipelines of the geothermal power plant form a surreal industrial-natural tableau with zebra herds, while the abandoned Olkaria geothermal station now serves as a vulture habitat. This park is one of the few reserves in East Africa that allows hiking and cycling exploration. Hiking enthusiasts can follow designated routes to deeply experience nature's marvels. Professional photography teams are stationed in the canyon fissure area, where midday sunlight penetrates the rock walls to create the "hell's light" spectacle. The eco camping area is equipped with geothermal shower facilities, and at night, visitors can observe the unique "stellar color palette" phenomenon specific to the rift zone.Kenya · Naivasha

There are quite a wide range of cultural and natural history exhibitions in the museum. One of the main attractions of the museum is the series of portraits of various Kenyan tribes depicted by the author of "Born Free" (BornFree) Joy Adamson, which delicately records the cultural diversity of Kenya. The upstairs exhibition hall features nearly a thousand species of birds and other taxidermy, as well as ethnographic exhibitions of various ethnic tribes in Kenya. Downstairs are Tanzania's rock art creations, an exhibition of primitive human fossils from Lake Turkana, and various geological exhibitions. The adjacent exhibition hall displays a variety of temporary exhibitions, including Kenya's Swahili Cultural Exhibition and South Asian Cultural Exhibition, and the Masai Mara Wildlife Exhibition. The museum garden is dotted with sculptures at random, and the inner courtyard has a fiberglass model the size of an elephant, imitating the elephant Ahmed. During the height of the poaching crisis in the 1980s, the replica elephant became a symbol of Kenya. The first floor of the National Museum of Kenya also houses the Contemporary East African Art Gallery, which is like an interesting cross-section of the contemporary art landscape.Kenya · Nairobi

102 reviews
Lake Naivasha is located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, in the highlands northwest of Nairobi, at an altitude of approx. 1,900m. The lake's name comes from the Maasai language, meaning rough water, named for the way the water rises during storms. While most lakes in the Rift Valley are alkaline, this is a rare freshwater lake due to the rivers that flow into it year-round. The lakeshore is surrounded by dense papyrus and acacia forests, with lush vegetation, making it a home for birds and hippos. Boat tours are a classic way to experience the lake. On the water, you can often see hippos poking their ears and nostrils above the surface, and in the evening, they come ashore in groups to graze. The lake is home to hundreds of bird species. Pelicans, pied kingfishers, and various other kingfishers are everywhere. A signature sight here is the boatman whistling and tossing fish to attract fish eagles, which then swoop down to snatch them from the water's surface. Crescent Island, a crescent-shaped island in the lake, has no predators, allowing you to get off the boat and walk among giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and waterbucks—this is one of the few places in Kenya where you can go on a walking safari. The area around the lake is also dotted with rose greenhouses, making it a major production area for fresh-cut flowers in Kenya and a popular vacation spot for locals.Kenya · Naivasha

The Great Rift Valley View Point

The Great Rift Valley View Point is located near Limuru, Kenya, on the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley. It is a classic scenic stopover on the way from Nairobi to Lake Naivasha, Nakuru, or Masai Mara. Driving northwest out of Nairobi, tea plantations and pine forests stretch across the highlands, suddenly stopping here as the land drops sharply to the west—standing on the edge of the cliff over 2,000 m high, the Great Rift Valley from your geography textbook lies beneath your feet: the valley floor is wide and flat, with the distinct outline of Mount Longonot directly ahead, its summit featuring a forest-covered crater; when the weather is clear, Lake Naivasha to the northwest glimmers with a silver light; the plains to the south stretch all the way toward Masai Mara, offering an incredibly expansive view. This rift zone, known as the "scar of the Earth," was shaped by long-term crustal movements. In a broad sense, it extends north to the Jordan Valley in Western Asia and south to Mozambique, stretching thousands of km and branching into eastern and western sections. The section running through Kenya spans approx. 800 km, is tens of km wide and hundreds of m deep, with a remarkably clear outline. It happens to intersect with the equator that crosses the country, splitting the land in two, which is why Kenya is known as the "East African Cross." Some geologists speculate that in the distant future, the African continent may split in two along this rift. Standing on the viewing platform is like standing on the edge of a continent that is slowly tearing apart. After leaving the viewing platform, the road winds down the steep cliff to the valley floor and continues toward Lake Naivasha.Kenya · Limuru Town.

Giraffe Centre

Giraffe Centre was established by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife in Nairobi and is dedicated to the conservation of the endangered Rothschild's giraffe. This giraffe is found only in the grasslands of Eastern Africa, and due to significant habitat loss, its wild population once dropped to fewer than 130. Starting with captive breeding and through decades of continuous effort, the Rothschild's giraffe population has gradually recovered and has been released into various national parks and reserves in Kenya. The core experience at the center is observing and feeding giraffes up close from an elevated wooden platform. Staff provide food pellets made of corn, wheat, and fodder, allowing visitors to hand-feed the giraffes or even experience a "giraffe kiss"—letting the giraffe take the food directly from their lips. In addition to the feeding interaction, the center features an information display area where visitors can learn about the conservation story of the Rothschild's giraffe and an overview of wildlife in Kenya through brief explanations. Furthermore, a nature trail of about 1.5 km is open to visitors, winding through the woodland to the Gogo River. Along the way, visitors can observe dozens of bird species and may even encounter small animals such as warthogs and dik-diks.Kenya · Nairobi

Masai Village

6.3
4.9/5
92 reviews
Masai Village is often a cultural stop on a safari itinerary, offering a chance to see the daily life of Eastern African nomadic tribes up close after wildlife viewing. The Masai people have lived for generations on the grasslands bordering Kenya and Tanzania, making a living by herding cattle and sheep. Both men and women wear the shuka cloth—red with black stripes—and adorn themselves with large earrings and layers of beads. Men are rarely seen without a wooden stick in hand, which serves as both a herding staff and a means of self-defense. The village perimeter is encircled by thorny bushes, which keep livestock in during the day and ward off wild animals at night. The low, round houses are built from a mixture of branches, mud, and cow dung, requiring you to bow your head to enter. For the Masai, cattle are a symbol of wealth and status, and fresh milk and cow blood are traditional foods passed down through generations. The visit usually begins with a welcoming song, with red-robed warriors and women standing on either side, harmonizing with deep chants. This is followed by the iconic jumping dance (Adumu), where warriors take turns jumping vertically in place; the higher they jump, the more they are praised, and visitors are often invited to join in the fun. Afterward, you will follow a village guide into a mud house to hear them explain the living arrangements and the daily life of this community, which revolves around their cattle. Before leaving, you will usually pass by the village's handmade beadwork stalls, where the brightly colored beads and bracelets are all crafted by the women of the village.Kenya · Ngong

Lake Nakuru, Kenya 🇰🇪 Known as a "birdwatching paradise," the park is home to approximately 450 species of birds, most notably flamingos. Aside from elephants and cheetahs, most of the wildlife species native to the Masai Mara can be seen. Black rhinos and the endangered white rhinos are also present. Flamingo populations have declined significantly due to rising water levels.

The Hell's Gate in Naivasha is actually a very large wildlife park. The two peaks here stand opposite each other, forming a natural gate, which is known as the Hell's Gate. But in fact, there are rich grasslands here, and many herbivorous wild animals live here. It is full of vitality and is definitely one of the famous attractions in Kenya. Don't miss it.

The Great Rift Valley of East Africa is the most spectacular place on the entire African continent. Due to the crustal movement of the African continent, a huge valley with a radius of thousands of kilometers has been formed. It is also a paradise for African wildlife. 60% of the world's animals live here. It is really a treasure trove of natural and animal resources. When you come here, you will definitely be shocked by the magnificent scenery here. It is really spectacular.
