No. 11 of Best Things to Do in Ireland

Killarney National Park

Killarney National Park is located in the southwest of Ireland, right next to the town of Killarney. It features three interconnected lakes as its main scenery: the vast Lough Leane, the tranquil Muckross Lake, and the mountain-enclosed Upper Lake. Native oak and yew forests stretch along the shores, where native Irish red deer roam; you can often spot them from a distance in the open meadows during the early morning or evening. The park has an extensive network of trails. Starting from the Muckross area, you can follow the path along Muckross Lake to Torc Waterfall, where stone steps lead upward, offering a panoramic view of the lakes from above; the lakeside route also connects Muckross House and the abbey ruins. Ross Castle stands on the shores of Lough Leane, and the ancient ruins of an abbey remain on Innisfallen Island in the middle of the lake. If you prefer not to hike, you can take a traditional local jaunting car near Ross Castle or Muckross, driven by a driver known as a jarvey who will share local stories as you travel along the tree-lined paths; alternatively, you can take a boat tour to enjoy the reflections of the mountains and forests from a different perspective on the water.Killarney · 15.4 km from Kerry

Located in County Kerry in the southwest of Ireland, Slea Head Dr is a showcase of Ireland's natural beauty. Its charm lies in its raw, unpolished grandeur. The landscape features rugged mountains, steep cliffs, and winding coastlines. Strong winds and waves batter the exposed rocks, truly capturing the vast, desolate spirit of "where the ocean begins and the land ends." Driving along the picturesque scenic loop is the best way to explore this area. On one side lies the magnificent Atlantic Ocean, and on the other, lush green fields. Beyond its natural wonders, this area is steeped in deep cultural heritage. As a core region for Irish Gaelic culture, the villages and roads here generally retain traditional Gaelic signage, as if time has stood still in the ancient past. Additionally, this mysterious coastline has served as a filming location for numerous movies and television shows.Kerry · 54.8 km from downtown

Located near Killarney in southwestern Ireland, it consists of 3 interconnected lakes. The Upper Lake is surrounded by dense forests, and its eastern shore features many limestone caves. A wide channel connects it to the Middle Lake, which contains over 30 small islands, including Innisfallen Island, home to a 9th-century monastery. A waterway connects to the Lower Lake (also known as Lough Leane), which is larger, contains many islands, and features ancient castle ruins. A waterway then flows into the River Laune, which leads to the Atlantic Ocean. The lakes are surrounded by mountains, making them a famous attraction and a popular tourist destination.Fossa · 12.5 km from Kerry

I stayed in Killarney for two nights, and I went cycling one day. I started from the town at noon and followed the route given by the owner of the rental shop. I rode about 30 kilometers. Including the time to stop and visit various attractions, I was able to return to the town at about 6 o'clock in the evening. Cycling is a little tiring but very fun. Ireland is originally sparsely populated, and it seems that this mountain forest is yours. Avoid going in winter, it will be scary in the forest when it gets dark early~

Muckross house and garden is one of the most important attractions in Killarney. It was originally a private estate of Irish nobles, but now it has become a public garden. The castle building is very magnificent, and there are also beautiful gardens. In spring and summer, flowers bloom here, the lawn is flat, and the air is very fresh. It is definitely worth a visit.

Killarney National Park is located near the town of Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland. It is the first national park established in Ireland. Its predecessor was Muckross Villa, which was donated to the Irish Free State in 1932. Later, the park was greatly expanded. This national park is really too big! It is nearly 103 square kilometers (more than 100 million hectares)! It mainly revolves around a huge lake: Lough Leane. The park is rich in flora and fauna. It has the only native red deer herd in Ireland and the largest existing virgin forest. However, due to limited time, we were unable to visit the entire park in detail. We just stayed in a B&B near the national park and took a walk by the lake when the sun set, which was also an experience of this place.

Kaili Cliff is majestic and spectacular, with distinct cliff layers. It is a world-class attraction in my mind and is well worth a visit!
