33 reviews
Muriwai Gannet Colony is located at the southern end of Muriwai Beach on the west coast of Auckland, about a 1-hour drive from the city center. It covers a vast area and is one of the few places in New Zealand where you can see wild gannets up close on land. The habitat extends from the cliff top to two steep offshore islands. A short walk along the cliff-top trail from the parking lot leads to the viewing platform, where you can see the dense nests right before your eyes. From August to March of the following year, thousands of pairs of gannets nest and raise their chicks here. Nests are often only a few centimeters apart, yet the gannets can circle and slow down in the air, avoid the sharp beaks of neighboring birds, and land steadily back at their own nests. The island has a wide black sand beach. The fine sand is black due to iron content from ancient volcanoes and stretches for dozens of km to the north, making it one of the famous black sand beaches on Auckland's west coast.Muriwai · 13.4 km from Kumeu

Mount Eden is a dormant volcano located a few kilometers south of downtown Auckland. It has an elevation of about 196 m, formed by the successive eruptions of three craters. The most recent eruption is estimated to have occurred tens of thousands of years ago, leaving behind a bowl-shaped crater at the summit that is about 50 m deep. The crater floor is covered in lush green grass, looking from afar like a giant bowl filled with greenery turned upside down amidst the city. From the parking lot at the foot of the mountain, follow the gentle trail uphill. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the crater rim. A circular wooden boardwalk runs along the rim, with the deep volcanic crater on one side and a panoramic view of the city on the other. The Māori people once built a fortified village here, and the remains of terraced fields and sweet potato storage pits on the slopes are still visible today.Auckland · 20.8 km from Kumeu

This activity is a little thrilling, quite good, and very safe; I checked the safety belt several times. Originally, besides bungee jumping, there was also a skywalk, but due to unclear information in the travel advertisement, we only did the bungee jumping. There weren't many people doing it now. Afterwards, you get a free tour of the Sky Tower.

It was so much fun! There were so many animals, especially the kiwi, New Zealand's national bird, which is as rare as the giant panda. I got a really clear picture of it, and I was so happy! Actually, this zoo is one of the most interesting and beautiful zoos I've ever been to. The animals were incredibly energetic and visibly healthy. The park is huge and all green, and there are many entertaining shows.

The kids loved it, it was great! Although it was a bit boring on the way because it took more than an hour to drive, it was worth it when we got there! The beach, gannets, the sea, everything, it was great. At the end of the trip, the kids could play in a play gound for a while, it was fun!!! The only small drawback was that the bird droppings were a bit smelly.

Compared to Weta Workshop in Wellington, it doesn't have as many Lord of the Rings elements, but it's perfect for learning about the behind-the-scenes story of its creation. You can touch and experience various props and materials, and the shop is very comprehensive.

The main street in the center of Auckland, a major city on New Zealand's North Island. Administrative agencies and businesses are scattered all over the street, as well as various food stores. The Sky Tower is also next to it, and the University of Auckland is also next to it. At the end, there are many sailboats parked in the Auckland Harbor. It is very comfortable to blow the sea breeze.

We arrived at the meeting point at 7:30 and set off on time at 8:00. The boat can carry 100 people at full capacity, and there were more than 70 of us. After a 1-hour sail, we found dolphins and various seabirds, and then sailed into deeper waters to find Bryde's whales. On the way back, we also saw a little seal taking a nap. The whole experience was great, but it really depends on luck. Not every time you go out to sea, you can see whales. We returned to the dock at 1:30 pm and didn't feel seasick. The overall experience was great!

The Harbour Bridge is the largest bridge connecting the two banks of Auckland. It is also a unique cross-sea bridge. The entire bridge is a reinforced concrete structure with a very long span. It is also a great place to visit and take pictures. The night view is very good.
