• A large collection of well-known art treasures, including masterpieces by many well-known masters • Retaining the architectural style of the 19th century, the brick-red walls are all decorated with images of Dutch history and art • The vaulted roof of the renovated museum atrium hall is made of glass, and the floor is paved with Portuguese stone floor tiles. Natural light penetrates the entire hall, which is spacious and bright. △ The building where the museum is located was planned and designed by the designer of Amsterdam Railway Station. It was opened to the public in 1885 and is one of the oldest museums in Europe. △ Go up the escalator and enter the viewing corridor. The corridor is composed of arched brick walls and large floor-to-ceiling windows. You can enjoy the panoramic view of the atrium hall. The library on the same floor as the corridor is not to be missed. The history of the library can be traced back to the 19th century. The museum has a large number of precious historical relics and exhibits, including aircraft, engines, models, photographs and documents. It is a good place to gain an in-depth understanding of the history of aviation and the development of technology. Aircraft Collection: The museum has a collection of more than 100 aircraft, ranging from early aircraft to modern passenger aircraft, fighter jets, etc. Among them, the most eye-catching is the Boeing 747-200 "Louis Bleriot" of Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM), the world's first double-decker aircraft, which was purchased from KLM in 2004 for a symbolic price of 1 euro. Aviation History Exhibition: Through rich exhibits and detailed introductions, it shows the development of the Dutch aviation industry, including early flight pioneers, the establishment and development of airlines, and the Netherlands' innovations in aviation technology. Other exhibits: In addition to aircraft, the museum also has a large collection of aviation-related artifacts and materials, such as flight suits, flight instruments, aviation maps, airline promotional materials, etc. These exhibits provide visitors with a more comprehensive perspective on aviation history. Architecture and layout Indoor part: It is divided into several exhibition halls, each with different themes and exhibits. For example, there is an exhibition hall dedicated to the development history of Dutch airports, showing the evolution from early simple airports to modern large airports; there is also an aircraft model exhibition area, which displays models of various aircraft, allowing visitors to understand the structure and design of aircraft more intuitively. Outdoor part: It is a large aircraft display area, displaying many large aircraft, such as Boeing 747, DC-3, etc. In addition, there is also a display of the style of the Dutch Capital Airport in the 1970s, so that the audience can feel the style of the airport at that time.Lelystad · 7.9 km from downtown

Anne Frank House is the hiding place where Anne Frank and seven others hid from Nazi persecution during World War II. Anne spent over two years in hiding here and wrote the now-famous The Diary of a Young Girl. The building consists of a main house facing the canal and an annex at the rear: the main house was once the office of the spice company run by Anne's father, Otto Frank, and today, the office and warehouse have been restored to their wartime appearance; the annex is the famous "Secret Annex," with its entrance hidden behind a movable bookcase, and the eight people in hiding lived in the upper rooms of the annex. After the Frank family was arrested, the furniture and personal belongings in the Secret Annex were cleared out by the Nazi authorities. The museum features a diary exhibition displaying the original red-checkered diary Anne received for her 13th birthday, as well as her later notebooks, books of favorite quotes, and short story manuscripts.Amsterdam · 42.9 km from Lelystad

Taking an Amsterdam Canal Cruises is the perfect way to explore Amsterdam. The Amsterdam canal belt, completed in the 17th century, is a masterpiece of urban construction and architectural design, as well as a concrete manifestation of Amsterdam's political, economic, and cultural prosperity during the Dutch "Golden Age." Amsterdam is a city of water, with a crisscrossing network of rivers and canals. There are over 160 man-made or improved canals of various sizes. More than 2,000 "houseboats" are moored along the canals, which, despite being boats, are fully equipped with all facilities. Taking a glass boat tour is the best way to experience the unique charm of Amsterdam, the city of water. With over 160 canals, the cruise glides through the waterways, flanked by typical Dutch traditional houses. Along the way, famous attractions like the Anne Frank House and Westerkerk can be seen in full view. Some of the more famous canals in Amsterdam include the Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht and Herengracht.Amsterdam · 43.2 km from Lelystad

Giethoorn

215 reviews
Giethoorn is a water village where canals replace roads. Because of its crisscrossing waterways and lush greenery, it is known as the "Venice of the North." The village's name comes from the large number of goat horns unearthed by early residents while digging for peat; "Geytenhoren" in Dutch means "goat horn," which was later simplified to Giethoorn. The lake district where the village is located is itself a mark left by centuries of peat extraction, with the excavated trenches gradually developing into today's canal network. A major scenic view in the village is the thatched-roof farmhouses built along the river—the roofs are covered with reeds, complemented by wooden exterior walls and meticulously maintained gardens, scattered along both banks of the canal and connected by numerous small wooden bridges. Boating along the canals is the core way to experience the village; traveling through the tranquil waterways by small boat allows you to enjoy the view of the thatched-roof houses and pastoral scenery from the water. In addition to the waterways, you can also cycle along the forest paths to experience the village's pastoral atmosphere from another perspective.Giethoorn · 46.7 km from Lelystad

Located in the rural area of Lelystad, it's accessible by bus. The biggest highlight is the retired Boeing 747 exhibition, where you can tour the entire interior of the aircraft. There are also several fighter jets and other vintage planes; we stayed until closing time. Highly recommended for aviation enthusiasts.

Giethoorn truly resembles a fairytale town, with more waterways than roads, and small boats moored in front of every house. Low houses with reed-roofed roofs line the waterways, their gardens meticulously manicured. Renting a boat and rowing yourself is the most relaxing way to experience it, slowly gliding under small bridges, with meadows and wild ducks on either side. The main street is somewhat commercialized, but turning into the side streets brings tranquility, with only the sound of oars paddling through the water. It's best to visit on a sunny day; the slippery roads can be quite inconvenient on rainy days.
